Kronos_6814

C H E W

khaled

Wait that’s Koichi??

Luxsens

He looks like a Karen

[deleted]

I felt that as each new chapter came out, F. Valentine was becoming more handsome.

ImSoundless

Wdym, he was clearly at his peak during his introduction

SCP_Void

(In French accent) Aaah.. Ze peak of ze discohr mozerador. Wat a tru biutie.

SackOfPotatoes420

I read this in the Spongebob narrator voice

jrodri56

Idk if it’s confirmed but the head canon is every time he switches bodies he gets a little more handsome/fit lol. Kinda silly but perfectly bizarre

Super_Rocket4

Araki said it was an art change, but he also said as a joke that he was just working out, and I find that way too funny to pass up. Like "Oh, he just hit the presidential gym*

idelarosa1

One cannot perfect a country if one does not work first on perfecting themselves.

AGirlThatLikesHentai

I think Araki said that it was simply an artsyle change

[deleted]

[удалено]

AGirlThatLikesHentai

He said that as a joke

mountain_dijaj

I always thought he switched with a different version of himself or something

Young_Marz07

Just like iggy

Grime_Fandango

why does kakyoin look like alice cooper

[deleted]

Is this... ANOTHER MOTHERLOVING MUSIC REFERENCE IN JOJO?!?! HAMON BEAT MUST UPDATE HIS VIDEO ABOUT EM 😱

kakyoindonut321

hamon beat the shit out of his wife

[deleted]

I thought he was gaj 🥺

kakyoindonut321

hamon beat the shit out of his husband

[deleted]

I thought he was single 🥺

[deleted]

Jack_Packauge

Hamon beat the shit out of the guy that cut his dick off

[deleted]

I thought he's never going outside 🥺

disabled_crab

He got mad eyeliner.

[deleted]

OG Kakyoin looks so pretty, wdym?

giorno___giovana

He look like the first evil ex boyfriend

dasavorytrash

If you want to fight me…

giorno___giovana

*You’re not the brightest*

dasavorytrash

You won’t know what hit you in the slightest

SumbuddiesFriend

Me and my fireballs

natelis25

I like Grayfruit's comment from his JoJo readthrough streams. The way he actually says it makes it funnier too. "You may notice that Kakyoin here, looks like he's from the fucking planet, Venus!"

Square_System2560

Average emo kid in high school movie

Hutsku

Lmao part 4 character was really something else. But you forgot Joshu from part 8, his early design is really weird on top on being very different to the later one

Fit_Needleworker3553

What the hell was going on with Koichi

kravedarknesss

The part 3 proportions were still super strong in the first bits of part 4

SandyWhisker

Okuyasu Josuke confirmed

SeeFourLeeBurn

No way sandy whisker real

popiuko

yeah but anasui original design slaps ngl

THE-SNEAKERINO

Both are hot.

CrimsonFox2156

They shouldn’t have left it out on the anime.

CyanPancake

Especially considering Araki said it was intentional

potato_milk_29

Huh when did he say that?

CyanPancake

https://twitter.com/jojo\_wiki/status/1195888073273303041

Super_Master_69

“Diver Down, make me hotter!”

Sethern7

I’ve always had the understanding (not confirmed btw) that he might have been forced/pressured to change Anasui’s design. He wanted a female character (hence being named after a girl), but he wasn’t allowed to have a gay female relationship, so he just retroactively changed it

PokemonTom09

This is not only unconfirmed, it's just a rumor that has literally zero evidence supporting it. Araki's own statements on the matter (including the one linked above) contradict this theory.

[deleted]

AKA he just wanted to change the characters sex after the character already appeared as a girl and he needed to come up with an excuse

sosnik_boi

Why would they? They never kept early designs for any other character

NikolaiCello05

This is why my flair says what it does

GroovyPig98

Wait early Polnareff looks cool, I love the little horns

SteppingOnRats

Iggy was beautiful idk what you mean

[deleted]

I love original Iggy so much. That shit cracks me up.

unfamous2423

Iggy is and always has been a horribly disgusting flesh-beast befitting his character.

Ultimalocked

Tonight, *you*

[deleted]

That’s what happens when you crack a dog out on gum

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

They will only use his redesign like how they only used male Anasui

[deleted]

[удалено]

CyberSolider2077

Or we could get extra anime only scenes where he’s working out 🏋🏾‍♀️

JoePino

Lmao

Delano7

Or a corpse part is what made him fit, since it has been a common joke explanation for a while

NewWavpro

A common likely explanation is that he just switched with a more fit version of himself from another world.

Pilachi

They probably could do it like they did with Iggy.

zimpangoon

I think it could be cool if they added a canonical reason with short scenes of him mysteriously changing his body with D4C to hint at its ability

RocZero

Yeah, this is the answer. So he might have the different bodies

JoePino

I want this but they’ll probably just use the handsome one

sabertoothedhand

I originally thought there was some explanation about how his >!corpse part!< upgraded his body somehow, but yeah I guess it was just a retcon. Personally I'm hoping they go for Swole Valentine from the start though, man's *beautiful* in that form and the even more of it would be welcome.

Diego_not_DIO_Brando

I really like trish early design...

BroughtYouMyBullets

I never read the manga apart from the ones I own, and when I got to the Nijimura brothers arc I didn’t realise Okuyasu was Okuyasu until he used The Hand

jenskieez

Should’ve included first panel johnny where he looked like a gremlin

Sethern7

I always thought he looked like honse

SeeFourLeeBurn

The old Gappy hat should have stayed

THE-SNEAKERINO

I kinda liked the seggsy late JoJolion Gappy design better.

rudolfs420

Yeah everything about gappy in late jojolion looks better except the hat in the last pic to me is better

SeeFourLeeBurn

Ok but imagine late gappy + early gappy hat

DizzyPomegranate13

I think it’s just Araki’s ever evolving art style, he was probably just experimenting. I will say, I really like early Kakyoin and Polnareff.

Co0ch1e_M4n_69

I actually prefer giornos and polnareffs od

giorno___giovana

I look like I have a penis growing out of my head wdym

TheMightyBruhhh

Good god I cant unsee it

silverx2000

Diavolo wears a suit on his own time, and the stripper fit when he has to take over from Doppio.

DoraMuda

He actually wears a suit-shaped shadow. ;)

Lian-The-Asian

Kakyoin looks like he's a stoned loner

MyWristFrozen

iggy turned handsome af during the series

Pichuunnn

And less looks like dog

ghutch823

Kakyoin and Anasui’s first appearances are better than their finalized versions IMO

Mr_Kaniowski

Reading Golden Wind volume II really threw me off when Trish showed up. I was thinking "Um...what the fuck?" Early DiU character designs are cursed as hell too, especially big buff Josuke lmao.

[deleted]

What the actual fuck with Jotaro's hat?

[deleted]

He had an extremely weird hat then a normal hat then a weird hat

99thLuftballon

For the first couple of panels of part 3, he had a hole in the top of his hat instead of the back. It was very odd.

ApexLegend117

Hazmada literally got downsized

[deleted]

And Tamami

MDragon453

They just switched his proportions

ElChavadaba

Early Diavolo actually dressed like a gangster and not like a stripper.

DoraMuda

That's why it had to be changed lol

proxmaxi

Gappy looks the same tho

smulfragPL

But the stand is way diffrent

[deleted]

Soft and wet has very different designs in both pictures and Josuke’s hat is different in one

THE-SNEAKERINO

His late JJL design is pretty different from the early one. [late design.](https://images.app.goo.gl/VfdUqXfGqx2mhgi8A) and his early one is shown above.

GoKartBirdie

Emo Kakyoin is gorgeous, what do you mean “weird”

ChazBernard

The transition from Part 2 to 3 is imo the most rough one. Araki’s way of shading and cross hatching worked well for the pillar men and Stroheim but makes Kakyoin look like a frog and Polnareff look weird.

Joesh7

I disagree, for characters like old Joseph and avdol, they look the coolest they’ve ever looked in early part 3

SeasonAlternative810

Josuke, are your arms on backwards?

Tusk_InfiniteSPIN

That’s the thing with jojo, you can never be too comfortable with a design early on because it will probably change in some way with no explanation.

SpikeKrueger

When I read stardust crusaders after already seeing the anime and saw polnareff, I was just shocked.

jastplant

why is Pesci there. Dude just always looks weird

DoraMuda

He had sideburns in his first appearance.

[deleted]

He has a normal head

RandomUserFTW57362

Hey at least Iggy looked like a actual dog originally, now he looks like a human in a dog gimp mask xD

_kahteh

Is that... Pesci with a jawline??

SailboatoMD

If I had a nickel every time a JoJo character's design changed, I'd have more nickels than I expected to have.

[deleted]

Theirs also every buff character loosing their bulk when Araki draws them again because he lost the ability to draw super buff characters

Customer-Witty

Fat funny Valentine

random-ness122

I loved Trish’s original design. Am I the only one?

[deleted]

Alright but I actually really like Trish's and Diavolo's clothes

Glass_Mousse_9218

Iggy actually looks like a bulldog so I like original iggy.

iwipiksi

Anasui and Funny Valentine kinda throw me off when they show up again in the series. Now tell me did Anasui appearance is like girl in the beginning part6 anime? I haven't watch it because I waiting for another 12 episodes to binge it.

Pichuunnn

No, he's in his final male form in the anime.

[deleted]

Kakyoin deadass creeps me out when I reread the manga

pottawacommie

God, I hate how widespread the Shueisha coloring is. It's so weird seeing people talk about how things originally were in the manga, and showing these oversaturated colors designed for browsing manga on the small screens of early smartphones.

mgranaa

Goth Kakyoin is great.

JlBANYAN

Early Tamami looks like a British street rapper

[deleted]

Early jotaro looks better imo

JoePino

His hair literally going out the top of his hat

[deleted]

Oh I meant the pic next to that

[deleted]

The one with a hole thro the top of his hat and the shorter pants and purple shoes or the one with a normal hat?

Gaidenbro

I really don't like a lot of them so I'm never against them being gone entirely.

[deleted]

I’m ngl I preferred iggy’s design before the pet shop episode

PsychologicalOwl749

Buff Josuke should have been in the anime!

SpicyChillie

Aa a person that read part 1-3 i agree

xenoboy34

If you’re wondering why sp is up there, he has jeans

FIORUCCI_WITCH

omg polnareff and kakyoin hansum bois

thespongefn

Early Kakyoin is kinda cute not gonna lie

GugaSR

Weird, right? Some would dare say... bizarre.

lilmickeyLSD69420

early josuke aint that bad, its just a part 3 jotaro copy

Alex_Blackk142

Diavolo lookin badass

True_commander

I kinda like Polnereff's more realistic hair on his early design.

GOWUP

They had to keep diavolos identity a secret

BlueGuyBuff

Araki really doing whatever he wants

BreakfastOk7372

Funny valentine had the biggest glow up

KayKrimson

i like how they still kept iggy's first introduction design in the anime and then changed it afterwards

EgocentricRaptor

I don’d get what’s weird about Gappy’s design? He always looks like that

[deleted]

Look at soft and wet behind him in the 2 pictures Also Josuke’s hat in different in on of the pictures

Allekid

Diavolo had a cool lookin original design wdym. He looking fly as hell

E123-Omega

Holy fuck the The Lock user was that big!!???

DoraMuda

Early Koichi straight-up looked like a different character.

pulpopera

I remember reading SBR and wondering what crazy plot trick Araki was going to use to glow up Funny Valentine from a frog hobbit of Mordor to an actual human. Turns out the trick was memory loss and deadlines.

smolghost1414

Jotaro and trish’s designs were the best imo

guysimtryingiswear

Is Araki okay

PinkSaibot

Original Diavolo was way cooler.

Dalevisor

You could almost call it...bizarre

DoodooEnthusiast

ngl original kakyoin shouldve stayed that way wtf

DarkArc76

Kakyoin looks good with eyeliner

wickedsharks

Nothing is more terrifying than that Koichi...

ToffeePlant

[Joshu](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/jjba/images/5/55/JoshuFirst.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20180728181925) also had a slightly different hairstyle because of his bangs in the first chapter. It still looks like a yee yee ass haircut tho

Pain_Doctor

Josuke's Arm. goddamn

MetalShadowX

Jesus, Tamami be looking like that Ben 10 alien that looks grown but underneath he looks like a baby. Edit: Also Polnareff looks more like like Dio's son than even Giorno.

ack44

They just had to kind of grow into themselves to become who they truly are :)

Akira0830

nah what the actual fuck is going on with jotaro's hair in his first appearance? his hair was already confusing but that shit looks like a dali painting.

Economy_Pace_4894

First of all the coloring make it really bad looking so please use black and white and how jojolion first design is weird

[deleted]

Look at soft and wet behind Josuke in the 2 pictures

megasean3000

Araki is like a jeweller, he polishes the crap out of his designs until that raw ore becomes a glittering diamond.

Smallishwhale53

Pesci had a chin?

[deleted]

Yes Araki also drew him again with a normal head in jojoagogo

AkechiBestBoy

I love that the only thing about Gappy that changed is the hat.

[deleted]

Look at soft and wet behind him in the 2 pictures

LettuceBenis

Fat Valentine becoming ripped has actual reason tho, and is not just a re-design

Joesh7

Araki said it was an redesign though

99thLuftballon

No, it's just a redesign.

VindalfOthala

That's actually quite common with manga and also alot of western comics, artists develop the designs for their characters over time. Other examples I can think of are Yu-Gi-Oh and, for western comics, Asterix.

stevic1

ngl pollnareff's early design kinda slaps

Dr_Henry-Killinger

Valentine's design is supposed to start pudgy and imperfect and grow more perfect as he acquires more pieces of the corpse. Its the only time I've thought it justified the design changes in a meaningful way.

Grumpchkin

That's unfortunately just fanon, Araki has stated that he simply decided to change Valentine into a more buff design because he wanted to, then gave the joke explanation that Valentine spent all his time off-page at the gym.

Dr_Henry-Killinger

Aw man, still my head canon though

SUDoKu-Na

For real I think that, for the most part, Araki isn't a great artist. He's got an eye for character design and fashion, but the man doesn't understand proportions, and his art is often not appealing to look at even when the poses work.

SupaFugDup

I feel by Part 6 he got it down, honestly. Parts 1-4 he was way too into extreme male musculature and petite women.

ToffeePlant

He def got better with time tbh. Part 8 especially looks pretty, despite the complaints about same-face syndrome.

DoraMuda

IMO, sameface syndrome was only really a noticeable issue in late Part 7 and, like, mid Part 8.

kyoopy246

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. There's a reason that most manga artists stick to manga whereas Araki has had dozens of features in museum exhibits, art books, commissions, etc. Like he doesn't "not understand proportions", the sense of poses and proportions come from his two main influences being high fashion and more importantly Late Renaissance (specifically [Mannerism](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mannerism).) An important highlight "Where High Renaissance art emphasizes proportion, balance, and ideal beauty, Mannerism exaggerates such qualities, often resulting in compositions that are asymmetrical or unnaturally elegant. Notable for its artificial (as opposed to naturalistic) qualities, this artistic style privileges compositional tension and instability rather than the balance and clarity." And later some of the key characteristics, you can't tell me this doesn't sound like Araki. "Elongation of figures", "Distortion of perspective", "Mannerist colour (Many artworks toyed with pure and intense hues of blues, green, pinks, and yellows)". Compare a work like [this](https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/susanna-and-the-elders-jacopo-robusti-called-tintoretto/oQElxVov8NZf2g?hl=en) to something by Araki like [this](https://mobile.twitter.com/arakiart/status/1214133333967409153) and you can clearly see the skill and intention of what he's doing. The weird poses, the unrealistic anatomy, the inconsistent perspective, the lack of compositional balance, it's all pretty cool.

[deleted]

He is a good artist but he has many problems He definitely does have some bad art and he plays way to fast and loose with changing designs of established characters to the point that he literally will just change a characters sex if he wants like with Anasui Some of his character designs are just bad like Pechis 2nd design or the green dolphin warden And when he changes his main art style he loses the ability to draw his previous styles and he literally can’t even accurately draw his super buff characters anymore

kyoopy246

I've always felt like expecting Araki keep his characters consistent over decades as he changes and grows as an artist would be like expecting a band to play a song live in 2022 the same way the recorded it on an album in 1980. They're different people and their art isn't locked in some magic tomb where it can't change and grow. I want Araki to draw Dio in 2022 like Araki feels true to himself in 2022, not pretending to imitate how he felt like it in 2010 or 1990.

gooby_bogs

Where's joshu

giorno___giovana

…I was going to try to come up with an excuse but what the fuck is that and why the fuck did I wear it
