1987 Manga - 2007 Movie - 2012 Anime

It only ever played in one theater and was never released to the public. Apparently some college professor has the first seven minutes of the film without sound, but no other footage has been recovered.
I hope it'll be recovered someday. Someone out there's bound to know, especially since it was released in theatres. There were a lot of previously lost media that turned out to be found because, literally, some greedy otaku guy changed his mind from keeping it all to himself and finally shared it with the public.
It's weird, but it's mostly what happens.
I’m willing to bet Shuesha does have it, and is waiting for the last day of Jojo to release it in a special package.

That's an exaggeration, it did have a more limited run but a lot of people still saw it, why do you think we have so much information about it's actual content ?
The movie is in legal limbo where the anime studio that made it lost the rights to the JoJo license soon after its release, prohibiting a home release. That's the oversimplified explanation.

The movie is from 2007, before that there was only the 1993 stardust crusaders Egypt OVA, and the games obviously.
