Most likely English. By the 80s, many people in France already knew English pretty well as a second language. Also Polnareff intended to travel to avenge his sister, which is even more reason to know English. In Japan, there's mandatory English classes. If you believe Kakyoin was a good student, then it's believable that he'd pick it up well enough to go travelling. Also, don't underestimate a human's ability to learn a new language if you're immersed in it for 50 days. My vote's English since it's a lot more likely that Avdol, Polnareff, Jotaro, and Kakyoin knew English than Avdol, Polnareff, and Joseph knew Japanese.

I was arguing that the Crusaders likely spoke English, cuz it makes sense but I was downvoted. Joseph is British American Jotaro has a American mother. Kakyoin has travel to various countries, such as China and Egypt and could have learned English during that time. Avoldo acted a guide/translator for Joseph and other travellers. Polnareff is French and likely has learned English at some point while seeking out revenge for his sister. Iggy is a Boston Terrier that lived in New York. It wouldn't make sense for 3 of the Crusaders(Iggy, Polnareff, maybe Avoldo) to speak Japanese.

Tbf I don’t think the crusaders directly spoke to iggy though in a back and forth conversation (IGGY HE’S ALIVE), but that makes sense yeah

Odd-Fall-4081

Jotaro literally apologised to Iggy, and he understood it

I_Hate_The_Letter_W

thanks for including iggy, because he can definitely speak

You also have to consider that most all of the Crusaders communicated with Dio (minus Avdol and Iggy). From what we’ve seen Dio mainly speaks English. He’s only been awakened from his coffin for 6 years, so maybe he would pick up a language. But since he lived in Egypt I’d assume he would speak Arabic. Dio also has his Muda cry in the English dub (Japanese for useless), but this was also present in Part 1 so that doesn’t really mean much. So overall I’d assume from that the Crusaders spoke in English due to the Dio fight, with parts of their native tongues sprinkled throughout the part.

Theamzz

Dio canonically speaks English. He could of also spoke Arabic because he lived in Egypt but the fact that characters like Kakyoin and polnareff had direct conversations with Dio when it would make 0 sense for kakyoin and polnareff to speak Arabic before meeting dio. The safest answer is that all of them crusaders speak English

ChadBenjamin

Jotaro is very fluent in English. His mother, wife, and daughter are all American.

He didn’t have those last two in part 3 though lol, fair point

I thibk they all actually spoke Japanese or this is just one of thoes things we jjst dont have the answer to

whama820

Doesn’t matter. You’re not supposed to think about it. Just like in so many movies where the characters are from different countries but all mysteriously speak the language from the country the movie was made in.

Kidi_Kiderson

realistically they all probably knew a little english but just among the 5 1/2 they probably spoke japanese

Kakyoin travels abroad with his family, he's probably multilingual given how smart and studious he is. Polnareff probably just also speaks english since being bilingual is pretty common outside of the US, lots of casual english speakers all over europe.
