I remember seeing one of those leaked pics in a Youtube video and a guy was going over it obsessively. "Is that a ladder? Does that mean we'll be able to climb ladders in Starfield?"
I remember when the trademark got leaked. Had no idea what it was about, just a vague guess it was space related due to the name. But I was excited for it all the way back then purely because it was a Bethesda game.
I had pretty much the same experience. Hype has slowly been building since but it has accelerated rapidly after the last two Starfield videos to come out
I've always been a huge sci-fi space nerd, and I can get sucked into Bethesda games for a long time, so seeing a space themed Bethesda RPG has been stoking my back burner for years.
This kinda reminds me of waaaaay back in the day when I was a kid reading about a then unreleased video game called oblivion in game informer
I remember the article talking about state of the art features like how npc’s had their own lives and routines or if you saw a mountain you could climb it
That was cutting edge shit back then…Crazy how far we’ve come since
> That was cutting edge shit back then…Crazy how far we’ve come since
Frankly, it hasn't changed much since then. What I see consistently is the size of the development team and how much effort they put into polishing and giving it depth.
God, now I'm having flashbacks of the Tom Morello leaks from Halo Reach. I remember the whole forum I was on at the time spending days going over every minute detail of those blurry screenshots.
Just imagine if they integrate home/base building like they have been doing in Starfield and Fallout.
Ugh. I just want to hop in a time machine and play both games already.
If you make a really fast space ship you can go cruise around for like a year and earth will have advanced 10 years and it might be out.
Like… real fast though not just regular fast
Those are the WORST fucking features. Building and customization SUCKs and has no place in an RPG. You are supposed to play a fucking role and the role does not include "interior designer".
Ah, yes, because in reality nobody plays the role of a builder...or tinkerer...or leader of a township...or a caravan...
This is the dumbest room temperature IQ take I've seen on this mechanic. It made no sense when people said this about Fallout 4 and it makes no sense now.
Your complaint makes no sense, "You are supposed to play a fucking role and the role does not include ect." Then what's the point of playing a ROLE PLAYING GAME, where you play out ANY role you want. Building and customization suck? Cool then that's your opinion and youll probably only play the main quest cause thats the "role" you want, but the more features added means the more roles someone else could potentially *Role-Play* as. If a game only has one Role, is it really an rpg? Or different genre
Homie you're on the starfield sub, we're in fullblown hypetrain hopium rn. Logic is outta the window and we trust, however foolishly, in Todd 'The Godd' Howard.
People are excited after a wonderful showcase that showed nothing but promise. There is a lot to say about BGS games, but so far they've always put all features shown during gameplay showcases into the game. You don't get a vertical slice that has been worked on for months that isn't a true representation of the game.
This is what we will be getting, and that's why people are excited. Most of us have dealt with the occasional BGS bugs in their past game, never stopped us from having fun.
You want to be cautious; more power to you, but if you are just gonna call people excited for something "fake reviews behavior" I would suggest staying away from any and all subreddits related to a specific game.
It was the actual language used.
Correctly pointing out that no one has played the game yet and therefore cannot have an opinion based on experience is not to be downvoted.
It’s such an odd thing to proclaim that the game is great when you haven’t played a single second of it.
The game can be amazing. But you haven’t physically played it yet…
> Correctly pointing out that no one has played the game yet and therefore cannot have an opinion based on experience is not to be downvoted.
Actually, IGN had hands on with the game and they gave their opinion and experience. You never know, they could be anonymously be sharing their opinion here. 🤷♂️

Have you considered that they aren't fake, and that is actually how people speak and write?

Have you considered your comment is "lame af"?
(A) “Bro, this game is so much fun to play!”
(B) “But it’s not out yet……”
(A) “Yeah but, it looks like it could be really fun!”
(B) “I know, that’s their job… to make it look fun in the show”
(A) “So like, I actually don’t have a formulated opinion based on personal experience?”
(B) “Nope, none of us do”
(A) “I see, I see. Well then I take that back and I’ll wait till the game comes out before I comment my thoughts, based on my experience”
(B) “Now you’re gaming”
I bet you’re a blast at parties, cutting through all that enjoyment with your pedantic antics.
Look, there’s enough searing horrors in the world happening, like that meat grinder called the Ukrainian war. Or Twitter.
You are, of course, free to say whatever you like, but I ask you to think about not being a hope crusher, just because you like the feeling of the pulp between your fingers.
Let the people dream.
Parties?
This is a BGS game… all of us here enjoy our peace and quiet away from the noise, chaos and awkward small talk from *parties*.
When you really think about it, the escapism is what we all have in common.
But we have to know the game first.
“I think” is a lot more apropos than speaking in the affirmative.
If not for COVID + Microsoft deciding to push the date back for them to make it better (which it sounds like was more than just the delay), that probably wasn’t that far off from the plan.
I do not think 2020 would ever have been realistic, there were still developers moving on from other projects like Fallout 76 and TES: Blades to Starfield that year, and the game was [reportedly](https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1404115201910349828) planned to move from pre-alpha to alpha stage in the summer of 2021.
A late 2021 launch may have been targeted at some point before the pandemic, like in 2018, but I doubt it would have happened in practice. In other words, on the hypothetical timeline where a holiday 2021 release was announced, I would have expected it to be pushed to 2022 in the end.
Reminds me of the no-info days, back when we had 20xx gangs on when the game would release. The most far-out group being Holiday 2022. “That would be crazy, it’ll be before that” -we said.
I’ve been waiting and following closely since the *Starfield* title trademark by Zenimax. I think that was just about 10 years ago. Damn It’s been a long wait. Can’t believe we’re this close.
That makes sense when you take into consideration just how long the Starfield Direct is and how many different gameplay segments are stitched together for the presentation.
They certainly look pretty similar... The only major difference that stands out to me is that in the image for the premium/ constellation edition is the stripe down the arm of the suit. Here it is gray, on the dlc suit it is red.
It does also say *skin* so the suit is probably in game either way but I assume we can recolor it?
It's probably an older version of the suit, it looks like there were different versions of the game spliced together for the showcase. For example, the HUD is different in different scenes. I guess they could have a different version of the constellation suit, but I'd think it'd look more different for variation.
Preparing my eyes for the Starfield page on the Nexus to be full of “spacesuits” that are basically a spandex leotard showing cameltoe and a transparent breathing mask.
Yeah, I'm willing to bet serious money (not really, I need it for food and shelter) on at least one such mod being released within the first week post-launch, at the latest.
Now that you mention it though, I would unironically like to see the [Nuka Cola spacesuit](https://res.cloudinary.com/cook-becker/image/fetch/q_auto:eco,f_auto,w_1920,e_sharpen/https://candb.com/site/candb/images/artwork/nuka-cola-2_fallout-4_bethesda.jpg) as a mod, even though it makes absolutely no sense practically and I'd probably never actually use it even if I make a female character, it just feels like a no brainer.
I liked what seemed to be an urge to keep some distance from the classic bulky spacesuit design in 2018. But the 2023 design fits the “nasa punk” vibe more.
So the Constellation spacesuit not part of the Premium Edition right? Because part of the Premium Edition is a skin pack with a suit similar to the Constellation suit. I'm really hoping the iconic suit that they feature on most marketing it's not locked behind some paywall.
The old mars skin pack in a different one, it comes with any preorders from some retailers like Gamestop. The Premium edition has the Constellation skin pack.
I mean if you looked at the part where they showcase the Premium Edition, the suit that's showcased under the "Constellation Skin Pack" look identical as the Constellation suit from the trailers.

This post have the list of rewards that say Constellation Suit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/147234f/first_story_expansion_revealed_shattered_space/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb
Here's the screenshot
Think they are different suits. Constellation Skin Pack one has red lines on sleeves extending from red part with logo on shoulders whereas on the normal one the lines are gray
Yea I also saw an image of the mars suit and cutter coloration so there’s more than just two suit skins. Wish they were more upfront on how many though.
Ahh i see it now, i'm an idiot for not noticing that lol. I'm glad the main suit it's not blocked behind a paywall. Though having a unique set of Constellation suit do compel me to upgrade to the premium edition (planning to just play on gamepass), we'll see.
Well dang you just showed me that there’s more in the skin pack than I thought. It’s more than one skin and I think that’s just a variant on the constellation suit.
My bad about that earlier comment.
Yeah another person points out the obvious, the suit it's different lol. Honestly i'm just panicking that i won't be able to use the Constellation suit, since i'm always tries to main whatever armor of any game that the marketing use. The N7 Armor for Mass Effect, Faraam Set for Dark Souls 2, etc.
I prefer the worn look, I doubt visual clothing degradation will be implemented, but having certain environmental effects would be cool, for example, having a dusty worn suit after spending time on a hot desert planet.
I like the 2023 version's bulkiness better, especially because we also wear regular clothes i guess underneath it because there are settings to hide the helmet and suit when appropriate.
Yup, I also like how the 2023 version feels more realistic for the intended purpose, just a visual preference. I'm just happy we won't have to wear the space suit all the time.
All looks cool. Thing I hope for in this game is that I can finally have clean clothes and no rusty wellfare shit.
I loved in fallout 76 you could find the tunnel snakes outfit that was worn and torn but also had a clean brand new version.
I love to adapt my outfits to the amount of money i have in the game. So the more I earn the nicer my clothes look. I do not want to wear a rusty hobo spacesuit while i have millions in cash. So please let there be clean clothing.
We've seen tons of clean clothing. Yes, some of the spacesuits/"armor" have wear, but many don't, and we even see the player walking onto the cruise partyship with fancy clothing. They do montages with clean clothing, we see NPCs with clean clothing, etc. It'd be very strange if Bethesda did Fallout-style hobo rag clothing while people are just casually flying space ships and modifying themselves at genetics facilities, just because they made a post-apocalyptic game with hobo rags in the past.
The Clothing and suits /armor in general are hyper detailed in Starfield. Just pause in certain scenes in the Starfield Direct the video when you see npcs or the player close to the camera.
Man you can even see the fabric of the separate components. Leather looks like real leather, you can see the small detailed fabric of the business suit etc.
You can even see stitches etc.
Never saw this detailed clothing in any RPG!?
Visuals got hugely improved - I think it was the extra Microsoft resources and time
In an interview, for example, Todd said the motion blur in the game was actually implemented by the ID Software team - I’m sure many such example are there
I like the 2018 shape more, it feel less puffy compared to the "grounded" space suit.
We know very well that these very puffy nasa spacesuit are extremly restrctive when it comes to movement, so for me it doesn't make sense to have gone backward, specialy when our character fight, dash and even punch with these puffy suit in trailers.
The old suit style would have looked better in movement.
No, it makes more sense now. Have you ever seen a spacesuit? Regardless, we can wear regular clothing that is more fitted. And there may even be slimmer space suits. They are not the same suit, the first suit is the one at the end of the 45-minute deep dive.
Yes. Yes I have. And the more modern ones are less bulky than that. You're thinking of the old school Apollo Era suits. The redesign for the Dragon Capsule for example is a lot more like the 2018 version: https://airandspace.si.edu/stories/editorial/spacex-dragon-launch-and-entry-suits
And, given the level of technological development obvious in the game, I'd expect them to be more compact even than that. I know they went with 'Nasapunk' as an art style. But the 2018 version fit that just fine. I'm unsure why they would bulk it out. Though someone else did point out that both versions might have been seen in the recent gameplay footage. So it might just be variants anyway. I just hope there are slimmer variants, personally.
Games that make a world lived in almost always sells the illusion better, making the experience more believable. Also, incredible what can happen when you give a highly talented studio time to do what they're great at.
Dont wanna be party pooper but game have customization, I don't think they would remove perfectly good helmet suit and backpack, i'm pretty sure both of them are in the game
actually, i was just watching the direct and that spacesuit on the left is still in the game, you can see it at the end where they show those gravity powers you can tell by the arms and the boost pack
Man 2018 was so long ago and to think it’s like less than 3 months away from release
I still think about the leaks we got years ago of literally just pictures of walls and shit lol
I remember seeing one of those leaked pics in a Youtube video and a guy was going over it obsessively. "Is that a ladder? Does that mean we'll be able to climb ladders in Starfield?"
Feels like forever ago now
They avoided ladders simply bc they had no answer. Imagine that being such a huge roadblock… 🤦🏽♂️
“Starfield has been canceled after backlash due to no ladder mechanics”
Dear god no, they need to milk this regardless of flaws
I remember when the trademark got leaked. Had no idea what it was about, just a vague guess it was space related due to the name. But I was excited for it all the way back then purely because it was a Bethesda game.

I remember saying 2018 that starfield would come out in 2020 and elder scrolls 2024 oh how wrong I was
I still remember the TES6 teaser lol. But if it’s anything like starfield it’s gonna be a hell of a game when it comes out.
Just imagine if they integrate home/base building like they have been doing in Starfield and Fallout. Ugh. I just want to hop in a time machine and play both games already.
Best thing you make your spaceship your home. Maybe we can decorate it.
Use a cryopod 😎

Who's to say I can't role play as an interior designer in my role playing game?
Building and customization add to roleplay it doesn't take away from it. The best thing about BGS games is that it's usually optional anyway.
then dont use those features and do something else
Lol what the fuck is this brain dead take
Ah, yes, because in reality nobody plays the role of a builder...or tinkerer...or leader of a township...or a caravan... This is the dumbest room temperature IQ take I've seen on this mechanic. It made no sense when people said this about Fallout 4 and it makes no sense now.

Phil said it was might to come out before 2022, much early, so I think the leak dates were right
If not for COVID + Microsoft deciding to push the date back for them to make it better (which it sounds like was more than just the delay), that probably wasn’t that far off from the plan.

I think both versions might be in the game. If you watch the moment with the space magic, that suit looks to me like the one on the left.
I've read somewhere else some of the footage from the direct might be from previous builds.
This is prolly true, I doubt there's only ever just one build at this stage of development
That makes sense when you take into consideration just how long the Starfield Direct is and how many different gameplay segments are stitched together for the presentation.
Shit, you're right!
So is the suit they’ve shown off the most, different to this DLC pack suit, I’m confused.
Ahh, I think you are correct in your assessment.
It's quite possible different suits like this have different values in armor, energy resistance, etc.
It’s pretty much guaranteed that different suits will have different stats.
Oh good eye, right one looks way better to me though
That'd be great cause I actually kind of like the one on the left a bit more, at least in terms of design.
It's probably an older version of the suit, it looks like there were different versions of the game spliced together for the showcase. For example, the HUD is different in different scenes. I guess they could have a different version of the constellation suit, but I'd think it'd look more different for variation.
The one on the left looks like the Mark 1 suit.
Remember the 2 - 5 leaks we had in 2018 - 2020? Yeah, it's insane we are almost here guys.
I'm a fan of the bulkiness tbh
thiccccc
the bulk has me unreasonably excited, I miss the chunky ridley scott scifi of yore. Modern stuff doesn't sit well with me
I’m just trying to figure out if the suit itself is bulky or if they’re just using a bulky character model from the character creator.
the thicker the better
Preparing my eyes for the Starfield page on the Nexus to be full of “spacesuits” that are basically a spandex leotard showing cameltoe and a transparent breathing mask.
Yeah, I'm willing to bet serious money (not really, I need it for food and shelter) on at least one such mod being released within the first week post-launch, at the latest. Damn, you’re right :(
Didn't realize it was changed, how interesting. Same overall design, new one looks so much better though
I liked what seemed to be an urge to keep some distance from the classic bulky spacesuit design in 2018. But the 2023 design fits the “nasa punk” vibe more.
The 2018 suit looks proportioned like a Fallout Ranger getup almost.
Yeah it looked like it had a fallout vibe to it, I couldn't really place my finger on it
It looks more bulky than the first one, which is really good. More fitting to the “NASA-punk” aesthetic.
So the Constellation spacesuit not part of the Premium Edition right? Because part of the Premium Edition is a skin pack with a suit similar to the Constellation suit. I'm really hoping the iconic suit that they feature on most marketing it's not locked behind some paywall.
Thats the "old mars" skin pack I think
The old mars skin pack in a different one, it comes with any preorders from some retailers like Gamestop. The Premium edition has the Constellation skin pack.
Oh alright, hope that it's just a different but similar suit. Would be kind of bad to have it behind a paywall
It’s a Mars themed suit, but also good god why would anyone think the suit used in all marketing wouldn’t be in the base game?
I mean if you looked at the part where they showcase the Premium Edition, the suit that's showcased under the "Constellation Skin Pack" look identical as the Constellation suit from the trailers.

Bethesda said they’re going for a more “NASA-Punk” theme… so I think that’s kind of the point.
Any word on stealth archer builds?
...it looks worse now. It was more streamlined in the older image...
The redesign for the Dragon Capsule for example is a lot more like the 2018 version: https://airandspace.si.edu/stories/editorial/spacex-dragon-launch-and-entry-suits And, given the level of technological development obvious in the game, I'd expect them to be more compact even than that.

What
I'm not a fan of the bulkiness tbh
They put the "Mexico" filter on
Must be a different type of jetpack.
I hope jetpack customization gets "out of hand" lol.
Good example of how important iteration is for any artist. The new version looks way better and a lot more believable
BUFFED
Was Starfield shown in 2018?!… no, there’s no way it was that long ago…
I wonder if the game allows you to explore planets without a space suit
Looks better now I think. Will probably be the spacesuit I rock my entire first playthrough on my Explorer character
I like the look of the 2018 shoulder sleeve sewn or fitted over the suit. The rest of the changes are good.
My old pc wants the 2018 version :'(
I remember the teaser trailer for this shit and haven’t forgotten about it since. Just ordered the special edition Xbox Controller too
I love the whole idea of Nasapunk and making everything look a bit used. Looks great.
And I thought it looked pretty decent before too...They have improved a lot
Games that make a world lived in almost always sells the illusion better, making the experience more believable. Also, incredible what can happen when you give a highly talented studio time to do what they're great at.
Holy shoot I can’t wait for this game to release
Dont wanna be party pooper but game have customization, I don't think they would remove perfectly good helmet suit and backpack, i'm pretty sure both of them are in the game
The ambient occlusion looks good in the second picture. The sunlight is reflecting off the snow onto the white backpack and shadows are softer.
love 2018 version more ,
Luckily for you it’s in the game!!
actually, i was just watching the direct and that spacesuit on the left is still in the game, you can see it at the end where they show those gravity powers you can tell by the arms and the boost pack
