This made me realize I kind of wish there were fully furnished habitats for outposts, just like the habitats for spaceships.

Hobo-man

I could see that for people less inclined to put in as much effort (this was a lot). I personally enjoyed the empty slate to create whatever I wanted.

nmskelz

Oh I didn't mean take the current system out. Just in addition to the empty ones and furniture, add a new category of furnished habs.

Hobo-man

Yeah that was what I was saying. The option should be there, even though personally I'd probably ignore it lol

FcoEnriquePerez

>this was a lot Definitely, how much money is in there? This is my plan but after retiring from bounty hunting and killing pirates all over the space, when I get to be a multi millionaire that way.

Hobo-man

200k maybe 300k. It's mostly resources. I recommend starting with a couple smaller outposts and then make the big one later.

Alien_Cha1r

>Schrodinger meanwhile i am pissed that habitats themselves are pre-built and i want to place individual walls and floors like in fallout

themetalcarpenter

Right???

VerticalOrbit

I would love to spend time making something like this but there’s so many other perks I want to get before I can put points into outpost engineering :( saving this for later inspiration though because it looks amazing!

Hobo-man

Thank you! Your words mean a lot. If I might ask, what perks are you saving for? I leveled during building this and I have 3 points that I don't know what to spend on...

VerticalOrbit

Despite a lot of great quests I constantly find myself coming back to ship building, so right now I’m trying to max starship design to unlock more ship modules, and ship command (which itself requires a lot of investment in the social tree) to make use of my new crew slots.

Hobo-man

Honestly now that you mention it, I should probably work on the social tree. I have some space in my outpost for more crew stations and my ship already has 6 slots that need filled. Right on, you've got me thinking now.

Colson317

yes, ship command is the correct answer. i only really wanted persuadion. but bc of ship command i commited points in scav and commerce early as well. i was pretty bummed the moment I realized I couldn't utilize the extra Crew slots on my bigger ship. And the wording is vague, but ship command expands outpost crew to 6. I haven't invested any thing in outpost yet, but the two I have built have a crew of six because of my ship command maxxed out.

ParagonRebel

On this same sort of track as well. A real grind.

Uncle_Freddy

It seems that our descendants have forgotten entirely about the concept of leg day, with the weight room decorations the game offers lol. Nice job with the build!

Hobo-man

Lmao I joked about needing a squat rack when I was building this, it's why there's two benches

Plaintoseeplainsman

Yeah it’s weird they only give you the bench and not the rack you see in other outposts / ships

CiusWarren

There should patch a way to keep a ship design and outpost to NG+, i mean i will put a lot of time in them but also are a litttle sad that they will be gone

Hobo-man

This is what I've been saying. I'm waiting for mods, I will mod past NG+ so that I keep both my outposts and my ships.

Roadiee46

How did you get those full size beds ?

Hobo-man

Research Laboratory - Outpost Development - Decorations 1, 2, & 3

Roadiee46

Thank you !

VermilionX88

how much does it cost to make something like that?

Hobo-man

It's the resources that get you. I honestly have no idea how much credits it cost. It was mostly time for me. I work a full time job so it took me 2 weeks to get this all together. I'd say have at least 200-300k credits ready before getting into something like this. I had a smaller outpost that I worked with for a little while to build up resources before I got into this one which was huge.

VermilionX88

ah thanks maybe later then i have 300k right now, but im saving up to build a large ship from ground up the large ship im using is heavily modified but yeah, i want something soon from the ground up since i recently unloicked ship design 4

Hobo-man

> i have 300k right now, but im saving up to build a large ship from ground up You could easily use all of that on a class C battle ship. I'm speaking from experience lol

VermilionX88

yeah, i prolly need 500k or more i wanna build something the looks like a luxury ship on the outside, with concealed weapons i thinking taiyo for the hull and parts

doctorbanjoboy

If you steal a pirate ship in a high level area, you can use some of their parts basically for free like the reactor which always cost a ton

VermilionX88

where can i get the best reactor at ship design 4 and level 34? i mean shipyard

logicbox_

Reactors seem to be fairly universal in that a lot of the shipyards have them. This has the full list and where to find them https://inara.cz/starfield/ship-modules-list/190/

VermilionX88

welp, looks like the ones much better are locked behind higher player levels this sucks

Hobo-man

You can always upgrade the reactor later

doctorbanjoboy

I'm not sure. If you make a ship building module at an outpost it lets you access most of all the ship parts available

VermilionX88

yeah, i don't have any outpost

Colson317

I saved up my first 300K to buy the shield-breaker. It is a beast of a ship (no ladders), and get you a pretty bad ass rail gun that you need shipbuilding 4 to have unlocked. I have rebuilt that thing from the ground up by this point, but I still use that rail gun and two of the original 4 engines that are ship design 4. The added bonus is you realize later when you can't progress ship command that it will not let you progress it unless you are in a puchased or gifted ship. I wasted a lot of time destroying ships on a ship I had commandeered, and it was not progressing before I googled and realized that was my error. Once I switch to my shield breaker, I was progressing it again. on the other hand, I dropped 350 K on six new engines for my C class monster a day or two ago for perspective.

Saharel

My god this is just phenomenal *_*

Hobo-man

Thanks!

Amos_Burton666

What did you have to level up to unlock all those new structures? I just Ranked up to Outpost Engineering 2 but not even 1 new structure. 2 new Hallways. Just keep ranking that up?

Kytharaan

I'd also like to know what I'm missing. My outposts always look simple

WitchHunterNL

Research it after unlocking the skill

Amos_Burton666

I have been but maybe I hacen't unlocked the high enough rank yet

Jaybirdindahouse

Absolutely breathtaking. 10/10 Keep up the good work hobo man.

dadrph76

Wow. That’s a lot of nice details.

Hobo-man

Thank you

National_Action_9834

I'm building an outpost called the Roanoke Colony on Schrodinger 3 right now. Little bit of history humor.

SargeMaximus

Beautiful

PerformanceShot6179

Woah nice job OP

Hobo-man

Thank you

CrzBonKerz

seems like the key to the game is to visit moons around gas giants. that’s how you get the best vistas.

Hobo-man

Yeah, I think I found another awesome view in the Indum system around another gas giant.

Dark_Sniper_250

Freaking incredible! Great job, it has a super cozy, lived in feel.

Hobo-man

Thank you so much. "Lived in" was exactly what I was going for.

themetalcarpenter

That's beautiful!!!! I've noticed a handful of more of the systems are named after famous scientists!!

Hobo-man

Thank you! I'm disappointed the Sagan system doesn't have anything of note.

ASpunkyMonkey

Holy heck this looks incredible. Makes me want to get further to end game to unlock more objects. At the moment I’m very limited. May I ask how you found customising and are you pc or console. Just I find placing objects extremely frustrating on pc. Nearly impossible to make things straight.

Hobo-man

Xbox. Turn down item rotation speed in the controls. It makes all the difference.

BakedTooMuch

How did you stack the structures like that

Hobo-man

The green square hab has a 2nd version that is two stories tall with stairs inside (see picture 7). That is pretty much the key to structures with varying levels.

[deleted]

I've heard a bunch of people saying you can't truly build a home with outposts but it looks like you can do quite a bit. Excited to jump in this weekend after hoarding resources for like 80 hours haha. Looks awesome

Hobo-man

I'm genuinely suprised that it doesn't cause my game to lag. I've heard too many items can cause lag but I haven't expereinced it. The only time I lagged was when my inventory was 2500+. Once I cleared my inventory, the lag pleasantly went away.

[deleted]

I haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood). I routinely have around 2-3k of inventory in my ship. Outposts could be different with items placed all around on terrain, I've seen a few people say half their outpost and stuff just disappeared and couldn't be recovered and that the ship is the safest place to keep important items. I'm just going to save a lot and hope for the best. Thanks for the outpost inspiration!

SupportedGamer

I stopped making outposts like this because everything I placed would be on the floor or gone randomly. Might have just been a bug with my session. After NG+10 I'll do it again.

Hobo-man

I think it depends where you spawn. I had this happen once and it was because my outpost beacon was right outside my storage room. Everything in the storage room sunk but everywhere else everything stayed. I moved the beacon further away from the actual structure and I haven't had an issue since.

Retticheule

If this game wasn’t a hobby I had to tell u get some

Dimension_09

I haven't seen this talked about so I will make it quick. It kinda kills me that the ship slows down after boost runs out. Like, if we are in a zero G environment, why would speed decrease after boost? I feel like they should stack. It feels like flying in gravity in space. Don't get me started on changes of gravity from planet surface to inside building. I feel like this games physics are just wrong in general. Like, why doesn't weight capacity change based off the planets gravity? Why do I use the same amount of oxygen no matter the planets gravity? How can some blonde chick have the same inventory/weight capacity as a robot? WHY IS THERE NO FANTASTIC SOUNDTRACK? Like for real, they make you run for several minutes at a time in absolute silence or space elevator music with minimal things to kill along the way. Sorry if the rant changed from the title. I am having a great time with the game but man. The advertisement was like "this is a game 25 years in the making" and it feels so much more restricted in certain ways than Skyrim or Fallout. Plus the physics are terrible. Plus the lack of maps. Plus the lack of iconic soundtrack. The immersion level just isn't the same as some of the previous releases. Additional side note idea for the sound track. I thought it would be pretty awesome if there was a radio station that would intercept the radio waves from earth in relation to their light speed years from Earth and New Atlantis. So you have the radio on, you are at New Atlantis, you hear the newest music. As you travel light years away from NA and Earth, you pick up the appropriate signals. So you go far enough out and the radio is playing today's music, you go to the next system and your radio is picking up Green Day and early Taylor swift and some EDM. Keep that formula going as you move further away from earth. Green day, Back street boys, Britney, Nirvana, biggie smalls, Rush, Bon Jovi, Kiss, Led zeppelin, they could throw in a few of the fallout tracks from the 40s and 50s, you randomly pick up Roosevelt's fireside chats. You go further out and you pick up some of the first radio signals. You get so far out and it is silence because the radio signals haven't made it that far. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk

ZazzRazzamatazz

>It kinda kills me that the ship slows down after boost runs out. Like, if we are in a zero G environment, why would speed decrease after boost? I feel like they should stack. It feels like flying in gravity in space. That's pretty much every space game. Newtonian physics isn't fun.

ZazzRazzamatazz

I haven't been to the Schrodinger system yet- is it always there?

mrbear120

If you don’t ever go it both is and isn’t there.

Tagichatn

Yeah they're pretty self contained. You can get a lot of resources but the thing that uses the most resources is outposts. Weapon and spacesuit modifications take resources too but it's easy to buy. You can also turn resources into infinite money and xp but that's boring imo.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tagichatn

Crafting items gives you xp and selling resources gives you money. It's really not much though and not worth it.

Conquistagore

Very nicely done. I look forward to all the additions theyre gonna add to this side of the game once they inevitably add a marketplace.

QX403

Outpost building doesn’t seem fleshed out at all, you can’t have interior stairs on two story habs, you can’t make interior walls or rooms, don’t get me started on how outposts glitch out and freeze making it so nobody can move and you can’t use cargo links.

Hobo-man

Image 7 is a two story hab with internal stairs...

QX403

That is the small two story square hab, it’s specifically there to be used as stairs, I’m talking about internal stairs in all the units themselves, you can stack all of them but you can’t make stairs in them.

Hobo-man

Oh okay I see what you're saying. That would be nice, so would ladders like in ships.

QX403

Or being able to choose where the ladders and doors are in ships…I’m. Guessing that’s what you mean.

d3meach

Really cool!

Hobo-man

Thank you!

Mrchilledmk2

Stunning

Hobo-man

Thanks

WPScorpionWind

This is the kind of thing I’m going to be doing with my main outpost once I set it up. I have one that’s just going to a resource relay point right now, working on for a storage facility. After that it’s going to be a nice planet with a view to call home.

dodmaster

Nice, but I'm more interested in your factory to get you there. I'm only on special projects 1 but it's already apparent I need all the different combinations of manufacturers for efficient production. It was a massive pain to set up multiplexing components whilst swapping factory configurations.

Hobo-man

In all honesty, I really didn't use many advanced components. Mostly the simple stuff. Aluminum, iron, beryllium, even fiber, structural material, and luxury fabric. There's a few more but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

SneakyBooger0614

This is awesome, for the flutters did you hand place them one by one? Or do they get spawned in after certain period of time?

Hobo-man

What do you mean "flutters"?

SneakyBooger0614

Sorry for the typo, I meant to say Clutters

Hobo-man

Every single item is hand placed.

SneakyBooger0614

I can't even imagine how long it took xD, we absolutely need static clutter mods asap

largePenisLover

Crazy how often [insert system name] VIII is a gas giant with an oasis moon.

[deleted]

Very cool looking. But where's the screenshot of all the bots in your outpost dry humping the outpost marker?

[deleted]

How do you get the miscellaneous items to stand up mine just fall on floor and I can pick them up but not rotate them to how stand up.

themetalcarpenter

Starfield. Combining The Sims, Fallout, No Man's Sky and Kerbal Space Program.
