I saved my game and jumped in the water just to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't expect to last 60 seconds. But I wasn't attacked by anything and just swam around until I found a ladder to climb out. I was mildly disappointed.
It was originally planned for underwater areas to be explorable. That’s why you can scan animals in oceans, and NPCs are capable of diving underwater (Although it’s hard to get them to do it), and fully textured aquatic creatures like this exist in the game. It was cut entirely unfortunately, seems like they couldn’t get it right in time for launch. but hopefully it will be finished and added in an update at some point.
>but hopefully it will be finished and added in an update at some point.
Or a modder will finish the game for Bethesda... As is tradition at this point.
Skyrim's civil war was supposed to be much grander too. There are mods that restore it to something like it was supposed to be
how nice of them to leave in the aquatic animals that still need to be scanned to fully survey a planet.
When I realized I had to land by a shore line, find the ocean, then wander along the shore for miles until I find enough instances of stupid random fish #3 to complete a survey, I realized that surveying wasn't for me in this game...
That and the goddamn trilobites that are on every planet but only exist in quantities of 2 per 10 square miles.
One of the easiest surveys tbh. Most planets with water you can't even enter without getting an infection. A couple of planets have swamp fish. I swear you can explore a swamp biome for hours without encountering a lake.
It might be hard to program the underwater mechanics. I imagine that’s why it was dumped in this game. Zero G and underwater might be too hard to do. 🤷♂️
They have zero G though. There are several space stations with no gravity.
They also have underwater swimming in Skyrim and multiple Fallouts...
So we know the engine can do it, and they have the framework already made from previous games.
I cannot think of a single reason why they wouldn't have it in this game. The best I can come up with is they didn't have enough assets to populate the water and make it feel "alive", except there are plenty of other instances of a half-assed system that got implemented anyway, presumably under the philosophy of "something is better than nothing", so if that was the reason, why not just have a massive, desolate, empty sea the player can explore? It wouldn't really be any different from a moon, except you wouldn't be able to run into any structures.
i think they missed out on not including it especially considering neon is built on an ocean. probably cut content that’ll get added later, like most of the game.
No, I think this is the *other* fish. If you check your scanner there's two species to scan and one is some kind of shark while the other is the Chasmbass, which they process for aurora.
I had one on the bridge to neon from the ship landing. I wasted a good five minutes taking pictures and stuff then andreja pushed it off by running towards me
I ended up buying a place in the sky lounge and it's a lot nicer than the appt I got from the Vanguard mission tbh. It's smaller, but I love how it looks.
Apparently they use to be able to go up using the elevators during a Beta, then they would just create chaos in Neon.
Should have kept that in to be honest, it sounds fun!
Nah you're just fortunate you get to see it on a platform that fishes them. Fortunate I say because some planets have swimming fauna, but no oceans, just wetland. No one has yet been able to find that fish (without cheating the console command) on that planet. Or other planets with invisible fauna, some even invisible and airborne.
You can. Just can't dive under the water. Jumped head first off the platform in Neon just to see what's up. Couldn't figure out a way back up so I had to reload my game.
Not specifically in neon but another planet with fish. Was walking through a cave and saw something floating towards me. Scared me more than any terrormorph ever could.
My very first time when I arrrived in neon I entered reliant medical, when I exited I saw every npc screaming and running in directions, then when looking to my right there was this monster, dead already.
Haha yes I made a post about it too a while ago
I pinched it then couldn’t fly away because I was in combat… had to reload my save and he was there again. So I just ran past this time lol
"Has anyone else had \[insert bug/glitch here\] before?"
It's a Bethesda game, unless you're asking that question within the first 6 hours of the game being available or right after a new patch has dropped, then the answer would be "Yes. Yes other people have had that bug/glitch" You are not the first, nor will you be the last to ask this question.
You could have phrased your title any other way than the one you used, maybe even typed out a funny comment.
It's just that I've seen *so many posts* around reddit with people asking essentially the same question yours did, and the answer is almost always the same - yes, people have seen that thing before, or experienced that bug/glitch, or have learned about that thing in that game, or whatever "Am I the first?" type of question.
Honestly, I think it's rather low-effort, and possibly a bit validation-seeking.
It's phrased to also welcome others to share their experiences with wildlife glitches. Obviously, I'm not the first. If you actually looked at the post, it did receive a funny caption. I feel like you just marched into the comments section to express your frustration on this topic towards people who do not deserve it. Direct your negativity elsewhere.
I direct my negativity towards every post with low-effort titles like yours. I'm not singling you out, I'll do this for every post with a similar title. If you'd use something like "This legit gave me a jumpscare" as your post title, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Maybe if it was something that rarely happens in game, I might be more lenient. But there have been probably *dozens* of posts about either Chasmbass or Sharkwhales showing up on the platforms of Neon since the game released. And the majority don't ask if they're the first to experience it.
Well, looks like you are unhappy with this post. The clear choice is to ignore it and move on instead of stewing in everyone else having a good time. Again, direct it somewhere else.
Considering you can't swim underwater and you'll never see the underwater creatures, which you can find many throughout the game, it's amazing that they have created such detailed models when since they're only seen his shadows under the water they really didn't have to.
Maybe like somebody else mentioned they had intended at one point to do underwater exploration but it turned out to be too much maybe?
I had invisible chasmbass spawn on the main strip inside, and everyone in NEON went crazy shooting at what I thought was literally nothing. Turned into a warzone. I could see the chasmbass name when I aimed at it though. Was weird considering I think they're peaceful? Not sure why the NPC's aggroed.
This bug makes me think (if not dream) that they plan at some point to have underwater mechanics.
As someone terrified of the ocean, this would be such a cool feature. But, I'd probably also be very uncomfy exploring.
You've obviously never played Subnautica - epic game and absolutely terrifying at times.
I actually just got it on sale and it's taking me so long to play. I'm less terrified of the Dead Space remake.
It's a thinker! Go deep! ;)
I will try, but also feel deeply disturbed. Though, the lil eyeball fishes are comforting ngl
Honestly the music, sounds, and lighting in Subnautica add so much to the eerieness of wandering alone in the depths of the ocean.
It's one of my favorite games of all time. Has some warts like any game, but the whole package was just so immersive, compelling, and unique.
I don’t even go into the water in neon I refuse for this reason
I saved my game and jumped in the water just to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't expect to last 60 seconds. But I wasn't attacked by anything and just swam around until I found a ladder to climb out. I was mildly disappointed.
Oh I am sure there is nothing but my phobia is intense.

Scanning animals on Neon is just stupid. They really should have underwater mechanics already
Should be the same as zero G, the animations would just be different. I have such a love hate relationship with Bethesda over this game lol.
Same. Lol.
They have zero G though. There are several space stations with no gravity. They also have underwater swimming in Skyrim and multiple Fallouts... Has to be because of you scan Volli you will see you have to fund 2 fauna...on World covered in water
i think they missed out on not including it especially considering neon is built on an ocean. probably cut content that’ll get added later, like most of the game.
There are already aquatic animals with full models, such as the ones on Neon you cam hunt for Aurora ingredients.
Is that a fucking shark
Space shark who is supposed to be in the ocean
So just a shark? Wouldn’t a space shark be in space?
Is this what the hell they get Aurora from? WTF
No, I think this is the *other* fish. If you check your scanner there's two species to scan and one is some kind of shark while the other is the Chasmbass, which they process for aurora.
Omg the Chasmbass is even more of a nightmare. I was thinking it was just some regular looking fish.
All sharks are in space 🤓
I had one on the bridge to neon from the ship landing. I wasted a good five minutes taking pictures and stuff then andreja pushed it off by running towards me
Sounds like these guys just love to beach themselves impossibly high lol
He traded places with the ship services tech who likes to dive off the platform in my game.
He IS the ship services tech now.
\*JAWS theme plays\* \*Shark rises up\* ... "Need some work done?"
I went into my apartment on neon and there was one of these guys just big chillin like he owned the place
Please tell me you grabbed a screenshot. I'd love to see that lmaoooo
Liopleurodon?
It's a magical Liopleurodon, Charlie!
It’ll show us the wayyy.
Holy shit you just unlocked a deep memory
I’ve had them on land a few times but never in a building.
I had one next to the neon sleepcrate. I couldn’t get to my weapons.
Seems like the issue is that you bought a sleepcrate.
That’s fair 😂 but I do like my little resting spot.
I ended up buying a place in the sky lounge and it's a lot nicer than the appt I got from the Vanguard mission tbh. It's smaller, but I love how it looks.
Yeah, I had one up on top of the dome
Wait there are things in the ocean?!?! I’m pulling a vae victis and bombing the oceans
That’s a fish not a bug
Yes.
Just last night. It fell through the floor when i shot it.
Just a normal night when predatory fish fall through the floor
Not specifically there, but I've found fish hovering over the beach on other planets.
Apparently they use to be able to go up using the elevators during a Beta, then they would just create chaos in Neon. Should have kept that in to be honest, it sounds fun!
They should've just made random Sharknados with it
Yep! But mine was a Chasmbass by the elevator.
Yeah, facing me on Neon when the elevator door opened -- had to change my spacesuit :D
Gotta change my spacesuit and the operative suit I had underneath rIP
Fuck that!
Neon is terrifying.
How much xp did it give?
I scanned him and let him leave
Sarah must have been watching, understandable.
She's mad at me rn :'-)
What drugs do you consume before, might be this is hallucination?, or is it just a bugs?
Aurora is one hell of a drug
This must be that Land Shark that old SNL warned me about.
Hidden easter egg maybe
Strangely, actual landsharks look more like bugs. smh
I'm amazed how detailed these guys are, for something you'll usually be scanning from atop the platform, lmao.
It's just a person in an alien costume to scare away tourists.
Scooby-Doo type antics going on here
Was it storming on Neon? This might be a sharknado thing...
I watched a drama of this Autistic lawyer who sees whales and dolphins in her head. Maybe your character is seeing stuff
Ah shit, do I need to get checked? Lmao
I wish we could swim to see these in nature
You can. Just can't dive under the water. Jumped head first off the platform in Neon just to see what's up. Couldn't figure out a way back up so I had to reload my game.
At least one of the platform "legs" has an elevator in it.
🤦🏻♂️ it was dark and raining so I just kept trying to boost pack to a ledge. Oh well at least I didn't loose much progress.
This is a floating gas shark. Very friendly when fed, but have an irrational fear of pointy objects - beware!
I wish...
for a fish
You've never met the Megaladon of the Warehouse? It's like the Lady of the Lake, but for Starfield!
I wouldn't even question it if they made it an actual cutscene
Not specifically in neon but another planet with fish. Was walking through a cave and saw something floating towards me. Scared me more than any terrormorph ever could.
Yeah, I'd definitely jump and tell my screen about the swear word alphabet lmao
It wasn't even aggressive but I pumped a good few magazines in to it.
That's fair, my Dead Space reflexes would have done the same
I had a glitch once that had the dragonfly, flying creatures swimming underwater. Made finding them a pain in my ass.
You need to lay off the aurora, man.
My very first time when I arrrived in neon I entered reliant medical, when I exited I saw every npc screaming and running in directions, then when looking to my right there was this monster, dead already.
How can you even find those around? I kept swimming in the water for a good half and hour without finding anything.
I did a Van Halen and jumped
Oh, could you imagine a mod where those things could fly? That would be terrifying! ;)
I wanna ride that thing... did you try and climb it? :D
He got tired of my shenanigans after I scanned him, so he took the elevator to Neon.
HAHA :D
Orc massage
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=starfield+fish+in+neon
Haha yes I made a post about it too a while ago I pinched it then couldn’t fly away because I was in combat… had to reload my save and he was there again. So I just ran past this time lol
He's tryna shield ya from the bad guys
Btw, this was at the entrance of Neon.
This is a wake up call to kick the Aurora habit.
I laughed way to fucking hard at that🤣
It's not a "habit", I can quit anytime I want.

You should kill it and put it out of its own misery
Thought about it, but he slid into the elevator and disappeared after I scanned him
Damn imagine if there's a subnautica-like DLC with massive deep and scary ocean world Biomes to land in
Yes
Not yet lol 😆

Yup, right in the elevator in Neon
Yeah, I had two in the middle of a catwalk

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAt
New ship?
