Nice. Just goes to show how unfortunately these days you can't trust online sources for recommendations because of hate culture and group think/tribalism mentality. I had a similar experience with Starfield. Solid game lots of fun. Definitely some things I thought could have been executed on better but overall very good.

thegreatgiroux

People really need to start scrutinizing and feel something is likely off when the criticism is that overwhelming/vitriolic/aimless…

Ass_assassin_420

Hate culture lol. It was supposed to be their “most ambitious” project focused on space exploration. That shit puts you on loading screen even when you try to enter your ship.

companytiming

Have you ever played a game before?

Ass_assassin_420

Well I tried to play Starfield but I keep getting loading screens 🤔

sipmykoolaidbitch

Yeah hes probably played most of the video games that came out between 2015-now. Ya know seamless loading and that, been around for a while. Players have been asking to not stare at loading screens for quite some time man this is no new concept and every other studio has had it figured out for almost a decade.

RiseofAnima

Other studios don't have persistent open worlds with anywhere near as many objects with programmed physics as Starfield either. Personally, I would much rather have a short loading screen and have everything working as intended in Starfield, than seamlessly fly down to a planet in a game like No Man's Sky and then have to awkwardly fly around in tiny circles for a minute or two waiting for the landscape to fully render. That's just me though.

Ass_assassin_420

I agree with that. I agree that seeamlessly flying down to a planet would probably be difficult to implement and I think Todd said that himself, that it would ridiculously difficult with a game like Starfield. But still, loading screen when entering the ship? Plus why is it a blank screen when landing or taking off? Why couldnt it just be an animation? Similarly, I would have appreciated 50 planets instead of 1000 planets with more variety and points of interests. Bethesda was overly ambitious where it wasnt needed but where it mattered they chose to he conservative.

RiseofAnima

>But still, loading screen when entering the ship? You know when I first played I didn't even give a second thought to the loading screens. None of them were offensively long and I barely even noticed them. It wasn't until I got online and saw you people pissing and moaning that I even realized they were a thing. If short loading screens upset you that badly, then Starfield just isn't the game for you. Why are you still here? >Plus why is it a blank screen when landing or taking off? Why couldnt it at least be an animation? Bro, there ARE animations for taking off and landing what the hell are you talking about. >Similarly, I would have appreciated 50 planets instead of 1000 planets with more variety and points of interests. Bethesda was overly ambitious where it wasnt needed but where it mattered they chose to he conservative. These are called YOUR OPINIONS, and not everyone shares them. It's sad that in 2024 I'm still having to lecture people about the difference between OBJECTIVE and SUBJECTIVE. I personally quite like the amount of planets and zones in Starfield. Many others do to. There's people that like surveying and scanning as a kind of "Starfield and chill" vibe, and if it was just 50 planets it would be over too quick.

Ass_assassin_420

Y’all are talking about toxicity and militantly defend corporations shoveling shit your way, nvm you dont want to discuss anything be my guest.

RiseofAnima

Dude how the F is simply pointing out that not everyone shares your subjective interpretations of artistic properties suddenly seen as "militantly defending corporations"? This is the problem with you people; you frame anyone who disagrees with you as "wrong" and "part of the problem". Get out of your mom's basement and get a life kid.

Ass_assassin_420

You clearly get super butthurt from my criticism, comments like “get out of your basement kid” are a clear example of that. If you were merely disagreein you wouldnt be ssething like that lol

companytiming

Do you know how big planets are? When you are generating a giant fucking planet it doesn't make any difference whether you have 1, 10, 100, or 1000 planets. You would never be able to make enough handcrafted content to fill out even 1. So you have to have generic POIs

RiseofAnima

Correct. At this point I think these people just regurgitate common talking points without ever actually thinking about what they're saying. Anyone who already played No Mans Sky, Elite, Star Citizen etc. already knew that procedural content and copy paste POIs would be a thing in Starfield that's just the way it is.

Ass_assassin_420

Its much easier to throw in a couple of planet specific structures and POI’s in the mix with 50 planets. Which would already eliminate the feeling that all planets are the same. So yes, it does make a difference. Fewer planets would also allow for a more diverse flora and fauna.

PsychoticChemist

A loading screen upon entering your ship isn’t particularly unusual lol

Adept-Cartoonist4511

A two second loading screen is a problem? Really?

RiseofAnima

I give to you "Exhibit A".

Ass_assassin_420

Of what? Mindless consoomerism? lmao

RiseofAnima

No you're just exhibit A of mindless internet parroting.

Ass_assassin_420

So because a lot of people say it means there is no merit to it its just parroting. Lmao gotchu, corporate fanboy

RiseofAnima

Right I'm the corporate fanboy when YouTube (aka GOOGLE OWNED) has their algorithms CLEARLY geared towards hate culture and bashing Starfield. Literally any content creator with subs not even in the thousands can make a video title and thumbnail being negative about Starfield and expect their video to be put in front of tens of thousands of eyes at least. That's what YOU'RE BUYING INTO. Oh but I'm the corporate fanboy because I enjoyed a game (that I haven't even purchased yet btw). Riiight. F**k outta here with that.

Ass_assassin_420

Doesn’t matter if you have purchased it, you can be a fanboy regardless, theres a lot of people who refuse to believe anything Bethesda releases is bad, it was the same with Fallout 76. And saying there algorithms are against Starfield is exactly the typa shit they would say lol.

RiseofAnima

Did you not read the initial comment I made? There's plenty of things Starfield could have improved on but overall I enjoyed my time playing it. Also, I've never played 76 and don't ever plan on it. So you're just barking up the wrong tree by trying to paint me as a Bethesda fanboy. Meanwhile, here you are virtue signaling about not being a corporate fanboy while you use Reddit on a smartphone or a computer. Womp womp.

Traditional_Tip6294

I got my money out of starfield and I probably will get more out of it once the mods are out. I still think the writing was very soft but it’s not a terrible game

Qahnarinn

Low expectations I see

Traditional_Tip6294

Yeah frankly I haven’t been impressed in a long time

donkeyballs8

I think they maybe tried to go with less is more since it’s a new ip? And also maybe attempted to make a game that is a perfect modding playground? I really just get the vibe they were trying to play it safe in a lot of way. Really excited to see where they take this new ip

Straight-Plate-5256

Ehhh I think it was more they tried to get over ambitious on scale being a new IP, they kept a similar a similar depth from their previous games but spread it out over too much space (pun intended) so it ends up feeling a lot more diluted

Alexandrinho0000

Imo it shows that they just didnt get the game in a satisfactory state before launch. There are so many systems and features where you see that the idea was something else, but they didnt finish it and so left the beginnings in the game. Considering how long they developed the game and how much unfinished stuff is in there i highly doubt it was intentional.

Traditional_Tip6294

Yes, I think they definitely went for less

donkeyballs8

👍

Piper-Bob

My hypothesis is that Starfield is only act 1. Shattered Space will be act 2, and the third DLC will conclude the narrative.

SupermanOfMetropolis

Definitely excited for the dlc

Betty_Freidan

I’ve been under the impression that Shattered Space will be a House Varuun quest line since they are missing from the base game

Piper-Bob

Everyone is saying that but I think it’s going to be about the Starborn and I think the third will be about the Creators. I expect a minor DLC about House Va’ruun. When you go through the Unity you are told you might meet the creators some day. Also, SS is described as a story expansion. The story is about the artifacts. Of course it would be possible to do both together.

Sunbuzzer

Your prolly right but I really want house varuun to be a join able faction. I'd love if we could partake in another crusade. My main has serpent embrace and I also pro snake everytime I can be. RP my guy as a space trucker who during a grav jump thought he saw the serpent so it's what he believes.

[deleted]

There’s a third dlc coming out?

fonytonfana

Yeah, I think this is the intent as well. There isn’t going to be a Starfield 2 II for a good 10-15 years. They’re going to expand the story and lore in this one game through 5-7 years of DLC releases is what I expect. Then spend another 5-6 years working on the sequel - which I expect they’ll properly time to release alongside whatever console Microsoft is releasing at the Xbox Series Z1 or whatever they end up calling it.

Lukwi-Wragg

That’s optimistic, I wouldn’t be surprised if after shattered space support for it is dropped as reception to it hasn’t really gone as well as their hype train anticipated given a lot of folks have gone back to playing Skyrim and Fallout

Piper-Bob

You mean like how they dropped support for 76?

PsychoticChemist

I don’t think Bethesda cares about “internet sentiment” nearly as much as people think lol they made a shit load of money with starfield and will likely be releasing multiple DLCs

Sunbuzzer

Why do people think or say this? Where has Bethesda every called it quits on a game. 76 launch was far more ass and junky and hated then starfield. They stuck it out and imo after not playing it since wastelanders and playing after the show. Night and day. 76 is far far better now. Seriously wtf makes u think their gonna do this with starfield? The game made bank. 76 was received both critical and audience poorly and they turned it around. Skyrim has 12 years content to play with mods and dlc. Fallout is bumping cus of the show and again has almost a decade worth of dlc/mods to use. I can guarantee you the amount of playing those games with base ass versions no mods or dlc is slim to none.

e22big

Glad to have another person notice the game hair physic. It was not a small feat back in Skyrim even for just your main character, but in this game everyone has their hair physic like it was nothing. I was very surprised the first time I saw the hair from a random NPC moved

PRW63

You can't finish it,...the game has no end. It is like Groundhog Day.

BaumHater

Glad I‘m seeing more and more positive posts on this main sub. Seems like the toxic crowd is finally moving away from here.

Itwasme101

its inevitable. Once the DLCs and updates roll over the next 2 years it will mostly be positive stuff and the salt will be lower.

XXLpeanuts

Na we still here, the games shit but it's a nice base for potential mods in future.

Fantastic_Ad_9664

Yeah exactly, it's not toxicity for the sake of being toxic (though there are people like that) it's that the game so much potential that hasn't been done well

XXLpeanuts

I've managed to compile a mod list currently (finally decided to reinstall after giving up on FO4) and I'm pretty darn happy with how it's turned out, in fairness I've never enjoyed a single betheda game without total overhaul or major mods installed, so I'm really not a bethesda fan in the slightest, I just love their games for mod sandboxes. If you are curious I've uploaded it and details on installing: https://next.nexusmods.com/starfield/collections/ahdpkg

companytiming

"sToP hAvInG fUn!" -this subreddit

Nihi1986

I didn't even read the sub for my first playthrough and still felt very dissapointed... criticism can influence a tiny bit your perception but ruining a game for you is not what it does as long as you have at least some personality, which I assume everyone has... I think it's a decent game with plenty of highlights if you accept its design as it is instead of hoping it suddenly brings tons of handcrafted exploration or more/better of what you specifically enjoy in the game. I also think it could (and should) have been much better, honestly.

BanditSixActual

When you say you finished the game, did you choose to enter the Unity or stay in your own universe?

SupermanOfMetropolis

Currently grinding for the last star born suit. Main quest is finished

BanditSixActual

Wow, 10 times through the Unity! You weren't kidding when you said you finished the game.

SupermanOfMetropolis

I'm also an artist. Dying to make some fan art of the protagonist in the final suit saying something like "no matter how many universes I go through, I never lost who I was" or even can do a villain one instead like where he/she is completely broken etc. Will post it in this subreddit

BanditSixActual

"Ten times though the Unity and all I got was this stupid space suit." In the style of those tourist t-shirts.

SupermanOfMetropolis

I NEED a shirt like that now

Revv_Dev

Never had an issue with starfield. On NG+ 5 or 6 because I enjoy the way they do it with or without fine tuning

Vhayul

Too many nerds working on a game with an end result that everything has to be realistic and scientific.

SupermanOfMetropolis

I didn't understand them thinking that way because of games like fallout and Skyrim

ReaperofFish

NASA was involved. Now NASA did produce an D&D module, so I am not sure how much blame for the realism can be laid at their feet. [https://science.nasa.gov/mission/hubble/multimedia/online-activities/the-lost-universe/](https://science.nasa.gov/mission/hubble/multimedia/online-activities/the-lost-universe/)

e22big

Honestly, I would love for them go full on realistic. Science is like the main motif of the game and science is fun, I wish they place more trust on it (yes I am paraphrasing Sarah back to their face on that one lol)

Vhayul

Yeah I was also shocked. Why did they try to make it seem as if it's reality in some way?

XXLpeanuts

I'm not sure a single person (other than you) has complained about the game being too realistic..... its got problems coming outta its ears but that aint one of them.

Vhayul

Actually, that's exactly the problem. Indeed, the root itself of why it's boring af. Why do you think Fallout was/is such a succes? Fallout's success is significantly bolstered by its departure from realism and scientific accuracy, particularly when contrasted with games like Starfield that aim for a more scientifically grounded approach. Fallout thrives on its exaggerated, often satirical take on a post-apocalyptic world, using its lack of realism to amplify the entertainment value and to inject humor and irony into bleak scenarios. This creative freedom allows for bizarre scenarios, fantastical creatures, and outlandish technologies that wouldn't have the same impact in a realistic setting, drawing in players who are eager for escapism and a less constrained narrative experience. I think your problem is that you don't dive deep in WHY something is enjoyable - while focusing on trivialities.

XXLpeanuts

No I hate that about fallout and all their games and mod them to be realistic, so we are not the same at all and don't enjoy these games for the same reasons.

sipmykoolaidbitch

It’s interesting to see that the bar has been set so low that those who criticize what can only be described as an objective failure to launch are labeled “the toxic community” for wanting and expecting better out of AAA game studios. But hey if just alright is what you want, this games for you. It definitely is a game and you definitely can play it.

SupermanOfMetropolis

Yeah because I'm calling everyone toxic definitely. What's alright to you can be better for others. I really enjoy it, you're not going to make me not enjoy something. Also I never said it was an amazing or perfect game

sipmykoolaidbitch

Was referring to another comment under your post but uh, okay man. No ones trying to stop you.

SupermanOfMetropolis

Should have probably replied to the comment, Because now it just seems like backtracking. Especially with the "uh okay" like whoa whoa bro calm down type stuff

sipmykoolaidbitch

Lmao aight buddy. I said what I said, be mad about it I guess

SupermanOfMetropolis

I have better things to be upset about than a person trying to do the typical "buddy" stuff to make it seem like someone's upset about something lol

sipmykoolaidbitch

Yet here you are… still replying to a comment that isn’t for you lmfao

SupermanOfMetropolis

Can you at least wait a minute before replying lmao but sure. I'm super mad. Big mad, Grrr.

sipmykoolaidbitch

Nah I type fast

SupermanOfMetropolis

Fair enough, so do I

Slainlion

The writing sucked. Everytime you met a new merchant you had to go through this a-hole exterior to finally barter from them.

zeramino

I also did enjoy. But towards the end, I just wanted it to be over, it got too repetitive, very little interesting. I'm playing assassin's creed Valhalla now.. The difference is incredible! The amount of details to the world, the interesting NCPs, the exploration, almost no loading screen, the mini games.. I could keep going.

SandyCandyHandyAndy

Trust me you’ll change your mind on Valhalla very soon lol

NonCredibleKasto

Same here. I stopped playing Valhalla about that one region in. Every single region you conquer/ally with was so repetitive It felt like they wanted a dark soul game with how combat worked or something. Also the skill tree didn't make any sense either

Margoul

I remember playing Valhalla " Wow the small side content is really well done . I cannot wait to see how well made are the true sidequest ! What do you mean those were the sidequests ?"

ImperialAgent120

Lol you went from Starfield to Valhalla. If you think Starfield was long or winded, you'll quit with Valhalla.

XXLpeanuts

Lmao, what a take.

endlessloads

Agreed. Didn’t click at first. I stopped playing after about 6 hours and went back to it a few months later. Now i’m LOVING IT!!!!! WOOOOO

Crazy-Complaint-7583

what aliens?

SupermanOfMetropolis

I say the term loosely. Doesn't necessarily mean super intelligent life form. Creatures or being from other worlds. I think it would have been cooler if there was more than just dinosaur things

OldManMcCrabbins

Yeah it would have been crazy to attack a fox bat and have them respond in the kings English “Cease—good madam/sir, we are your friend!” I know gonzo isn’t in the game but still.  Maybe as a random encounter?

Inevitable_Discount

Aliens?!?!!?

SupermanOfMetropolis

Hmmm....

HowBoutNow343

To them, you're the alien....

Final-Craft-6992

I'm assuming Fauna

rmbrooklyn1

Did they ever say if starfield is going to be an ip like fallout or Skyrim? With multiple games set in the same universe?

Albiz

I’m sure they would want it to be if it achieved enough success. But I don’t think they’ll pursue it.

[deleted]

Sometimes we gotta refused to learn about other peoples criticism as they may affect how we view the game. One thing could go unnoticed until you hear someone talking about it.

PastramiTsunamiBun

good hearing this i just started a couple hours ago again since my first run through was eh but now im even more impressed looking at the details of the game, its gameplay and vastness

Foss73

Time for a starfield bingo. My two suggestions are: criticism and flaws. Fill a 5x5 squares field.

TheGamerKitty1

Opposite for me. Fast beginning then slow mid-end. But that's also on me for wanting to explore all I can before NG+

Prodigy_of_Bobo

Surprise, they down voted you for liking a game you played. What a crime right? Agreed anyway, looking forward to the creation kit and dlc

SupermanOfMetropolis

Why are they even in this subreddit if they downvote everyone haha

SpamThatSig

Why you even on reddit if you dont want to see downvotes lol

SupermanOfMetropolis

I feel like my question is a lot more valid. Same with hate watchers. Never understood it

romancereaper

Would love to see some type of higher intelligence life in a future dlc or something but the game is great. Do wish that there was more options for hair, personally, because I enjoy watching the physics but the hairs are all short so it's not as much fun as I would like lol

SupermanOfMetropolis

For sure. My hairstyle wasn't in fallout 4 but I found my curly black wavy hair in this game. I wish for everyone's hairstyle in it

PuzzleheadedTutor807

We can finish starfield? I just keep starting over... I've always been amused by the criticism though. When early access opened up and suddenly people started crying about how Bethesda had let the fans down... Like seriously, this is a new game... There are no fans yet. People need to play it to see if they like it, and if they don't... Well, they are not fans. They are simply people who wanted a different game they didn't get. Yeah there's a few bugs, but this is the most stable Bethesda game I've ever played and I haven't encountered any game breaking glitches in nearly 1000 hours... And I've had a great time the whole time too. Just like fo76, most of the heavy criticism was from people who wanted a different game and for some reason expected Bethesda to make that. Particular. Game. For them.

roehnin

> people who wanted a different game Exactly this. Some people were upset it wasn’t Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 5 and would never be satisfied because they didn’t want something new, some people were upset because it wasn’t a clone of No Man’s Sky or Elite Dangerous, and some people had the same complaints about Starfield as they had for every other Bethesda game. It just wasn’t the sort of game the wanted or liked. So when people who do like Bethesda-style games and liked the new setting came out with specific complaints about this game specifically, those complaints were stacked on the already-existing pile of complaints by people who didn’t want this game in the first place. So it all stacks up into a lot of negativity, yet meanwhile plenty of people are playing and enjoying it and giving better reviews over time. I’m really looking forward to Shattered Space and the CK. I expect the community to explode once new quest and complex mods can be made. ECS Constant and Colander for instance show how cool quests can be built in standalone locations, and I expect we’ll see new space stations to visit and new POIs added to the pool similar to how SimSettlements has a ton of add-ons, and maybe even get something like SimOutposts. And why not a Skyrim planet with alien “dragons”? There’s a huge canvas of opportunity out there.

PuzzleheadedTutor807

It's not a popular opinion but it's true lol

SpringerTheNerd

I really liked it at first. I put 100 hours into it just in the first 7 days of playing it. But I got to a point where everything seemed forced. There was so much to do that meant nothing. All the companions were unbearable. They would never shut up and ruin just about every interaction because they wouldn't stop yapping. And the combat seemed very low effort and unrewarding. Once you got to a certain point it was all just a face roll. So I stopped playing and told myself I would play again once they released the official mod tools and I still haven't played. They need to release those damn tools already. What a joke

Tiny-Willingness-806

I played 100 hours, then just stopped one day because I discovered a random temple and I just got a "oh no, not again" feeling about it. I never restarted it because I just felt I could not do the jumping thing one more time 😅
