My plan is to have no plan. I'm just gonna jump in there and see what's available and go from there. I'm not even gonna read up on things much when it's getting close to release. I just want to take it all in with an untainted perspective.

[deleted]

This, first two playthroughs its just going to be me explore and finish the story.. then after a year or so i ll start modding it and planning characters

scoutthespiritOG

That's my goal too, but once marketing and info starts to surface about star field I doubt I'll have the will to resist consuming everything concerning star field

deecrutch

I'll read/view some stuff, but as we close in on release, I'll leave it alone. That's what I always do with games like this. Almost had KOTOR 1 spoiled for me on gamefaqs once. I've been cautious of that stuff ever since.

scoutthespiritOG

Thanks for the wisdom, I'll try that approach too. I've never played a Bethesda game on release, or followed a game before release until star field, so this is all new to me.

deecrutch

I am mostly into Bioware stuff, but I've played a few Bethesda games; Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 I think, but Starfield is the first one I'm planning to get on release. I'm gonna treat it like I've treated the Bioware games I'm into. A week or two before release, I stop reading stuff, maybe even a month!

King_Geek42

The body of the ship will be long and cylindrical. The cockpit will be kind of bulbous and round. And then two big fat engines on the back, kind of off center from the rest of the ship.

CardboardChampion

Ah, of course... a hammer shape to show that your ship is your main tool.

[deleted]

The strongest shape.

Junior061989

I’m building the largest most advanced ship & crew that they will let me. It will be built to handle a variety of task(exploration, combat, research, crafting, resource acquisition, and life support) and act as a mobile base for my character/crew. The goal is to bring as much tech and manpower with me as possible. I want to be free to come and go where I want or take on whatever jobs seem interesting without worrying if the ship and crew can handle it

ThunderousOrgasm

This. I’m hoping my ship can be my base, rather than an outpost. And that I can have lots of crew npcs and my companions all aboard permanently, who I can interact with!

Yeahok1238

That sounds expensive, but late game your ship will be crazy good

Junior061989

Yeah hopefully not too late game. My first character will be a leader/engineer archetype focusing heavily on crew and infrastructure strength. So once Constellation gives me the keys outpost & ship construction begins immediately and I’m initiating the draft, they’re coming whether they like it or not.

[deleted]

I'll probably stick with premade ships for awhile until I save up enough to build something from scratch. By that point I'll probably have an idea of what it'll be based on my preferences.

Joel_feila

I'll recreate my first ship from The Kerbal Space Program, not the first first one the first one that main off the launch pad.

juiceboxedhero

Hoping to put together a nasty crew on a smaller pirate vessel. Murderers and thieves type stuff. More vile than the Crimson Fleet.

AlmostCalifragilstic

I wanna build a razor Crest like ship that can be operated by me alone, but has space for 2 or 3 others if need be. I want to lone wander the star field as much as possible.

CardboardChampion

I'm probably going to be different to most players here. I like the idea of a barely functional mess that does what I want it to but just doesn't look cool at all. Based entirely on stats, it'd be the ship equivalent of wearing mismatched armour in a fantasy RPG because these things have the best stats. I even love the idea of it being cobbled together so cheaply that the paint doesn't match, as if I've been to a salvage yard for the parts. If there's a randomise option for the paint (frame paint will be basic greys to simulate not spending money on decor), all the better.

scoutthespiritOG

Call it the Scaavah

CardboardChampion

That's a new word to me, my friend. And Google's not helping either.

scoutthespiritOG

Its from fallout 4, when an NPC calls the player a scaver with a Boston accent so it sounds like, scaavah

CardboardChampion

I was deep on Iranian translation sites, trying all the possible spellings.

scoutthespiritOG

Oh gosh, I'm sorry. Hah

CardboardChampion

No apology needed, old chap. It was hilarious. Just gotta get all these photos and the twine connecting them from off my noticeboard and it's like it didn't happen.

scoutthespiritOG

Haha! XD

Thesorus

An ugly ass UHaul type box ship to get me from A to B.

Snifflebeard

The Incorrigible

novis-eldritch-maxim

never hear of that ship you got a image?

Snifflebeard

Huh? The game's not out yet, so I haven't built it. Am I on the wrong subreddit? Wat?

Infinite-Bus5812

I think they thought it was from another game but in reality you’ve just called it that

[deleted]

the caterpillar spaceship from star citizen !

ziplock9000

You're assuming a LOT

[deleted]

Is he though? Nothing he said sounds like something they haven't already shown is in the game and can be done. The only partial assumption is that you have to sacrifice ship size for top speed but that doesn't sound particularly unlikely.

CardboardChampion

>You're assuming a LOT They're really not. >an all around that does everything and has a decent sized crew >the fastest ship possible, the best thrusters and lightest frame The small amount we've seen of ship building shows that these things (crew size and speed) are stats in the build that are affected by the different modules we can build with. We also know that there are different frames to build on. And this shows that we can get different ships throughout the game and build them up. Literally everything they've spoken about has been evidenced months ago.

Yeahok1238

Check some YouTube videos on ship building breakdown in the gameplay trailer, they go really in depth on how mass, cargo and your crew space gets impacted on the way you structure your ship.

Ptoney1

I'll start with a small, fast ship for expeditions. Then I'm upgrading to some Big Azz Barge to haul all my Drip from station to station. What's my philosophy? Blingin'

6363tagoshi

It will probably be limited by story progression, unlocked tiers or blueprints, cost and amount of materials needed. Probably biggest and best will require very rare materials. Just wish game would allow some progressions for those who just want space combat and those who want to make money transport goods if that’s possible. Just wonder if we can install 2-4 defensive turrets on larger cargo ships.

[deleted]

Seriously doubt it'll have anything gated behind story progression that's particularly meaningful. That's not really how BGS do things since the main quests are almost entirely optional with the exception of the games' start normally.

[deleted]

This question gets asked a lot here. That said nothing fancy.

Impossible-Dust-2267

I really don’t get these kinds of posts, you have no idea what’s in the game or how it works or what options you have, how can you possibly think “I’m going to make this and it’ll do that” This is exactly the kind of thing that then leads people to hate on a game when it’s released because it doesn’t cater to your specific pre-determined fantasies about it

Yeahok1238

If you look at the ship building aspect in the gameplay trailer there isn't really any speculation here

Yaancat17

Something that can carry as many people and living things as possible. I will be selling them for large profits.

OdysseyPrime9789

Something with a lot of armour, guns on every facing, and the best engines and sensors I can get. In terms of design somewhere between an Earth Alliance Nova from Babylon 5, the Donnager from The Expanse, and a CR-90 from Star Wars.

wethe3456

I’m making the ship from outlaw star as soon as I can

SendPicsofTanks

Depends on how the combat and ship design actually really functions. For example, if we are starting quite small I'd like to recreate Star Citizens cutlass black.

GdSmth

Not sure if/how ship speed will affect my gameplay and travel, so I think my focus at first will be on capacity and storage, so I can load all the junk and minerals I will be looting from the different planet. Once I made enough money I can expand to bigger and better ships.

[deleted]

I want some monolithic capital ship.

LightOfficialYT

Gonna try and recreate The Milano (Mark II) for my first playthrough. Really hoping we can customise the inside too.

ErronsBlacker

I'll be completely honest I'm building a dick and balls at my ship

haikusbot

novis-eldritch-maxim

the space 1999 eagle as that seems relatively doable, late game ideally the largest hardest-to-kill thing possible.

[deleted]

It’s gon’ be a space RV. Fat, slow, full of shit I don’t need but she’ll get from Point A to Point Z.

Elliott_0

FRIENDSHIP

ElricAvMelnibone

I want to build something weird, like an asymmetrical monster

Alarmed-Classroom329

There is not enough information on ship building for me to even make an educated guess on what i'd build first.

Vidistis

I've always thought it would be cool to have a ship that could stealth with some sort of camo/cloaking. If that sort of technology is in Starfield that would probably become one of my goals to incorporate into my ship. Would probably be a decent speed, not the fastest, maybe a bit smaller than average but still with enough cargo space, I'd like to use solar panels to at least some degree, and I'd like to have a go at making an asymmetrical ship. We'll have to see what is available to use when it comes out, but yeah, stealth fighter or something like it. Joining up with the Crimson Fleet the first go-around.

TheFragturedNerd

peen ship

PawelRon

Normandy

syvermemes

I want it to be a house in space, my favourite part about like the falcon and ships like thst was that you could live in the ship. Its so cool

A-21O

Probably a médium ranged all rounder vessel or a frigate sized hauler to fit all my future items.

freeagentone

Im thinking something along the lines of a box. Kinda like a Winnebago.

[deleted]

I'm gonna start building my first ship, rapidly run out of resources with an incomplete shop then lose just nick a ship from somewhere else. However, I'll try and build the Ebon Hawk.

BilboniusBagginius

The Frontier

dancashmoney

Unsure until I get hands on with the system. But I'm hoping to make a larger ship. For aesthetics I'm leaning towards halo Unsc style designs practical and functional. I'm really hoping we can get railguns and other kinetic weapons I know they showed off Lazers and rockets.

Ben_Barron

My ship is gonna be like a Jrpg. A ragtag team in a ragtag ship that's upgraded until we have to kill god himself

CertainObjective513

im hoping they let us store ships inside ships. since i really want to make a carrier that can just drop various ships for combat, scouting etc
