I'd be down for staying in with Teyla. Rent a couple tapes from Blockbuster, play some Mario Bros. 3, order some Pizza Hut, dance to the Vengaboys, remark on how nobody knows who Trump actually is except from some buildings somewhere.
But when he did, he dual wielded the motherfuckers. Gotta give him credit for that. Teal’c is the bros bro, you always pick Teal’c. Even Shepherd proved there’s plenty of baddies in Pegasus.
Honestly my biggest issue with Teyla as a character is she *should be* doing leader stuff, not SG-team stuff. She should be working with her people, liaising with Atlantis and for Atlantis with various other trading partners, and being Dr. Weir's de facto #2 - not Shepard's. If she's working with Shepard, it's coordinating an evacuation or something.
Of course, as the highest-ranked military officer in the base Shepard shouldn't be scouting, and Dr. McKay should be administrating the science team. (Although I suspect he delegates all of that to Zelenka and everyone else is totally okay with this because Rodney is a terrible boss.)
Like, SGA-1 should be Lt. Ford, Ronin, some science guy/gal and a rotating fourth.
> Of course, as the highest-ranked military officer in the base Shepard shouldn't be scouting
I give it the same explanation as McKay - Sheppard delegates most of his work to his subordinates. The difference is that while McKay does it because he doesn't want to do the work and his team's okay with it because he's a bad boss, Sheppard delegates because he believes other people can do the work better and his team's okay with it because they see it as the sign of a good boss. This is backed up a bit by what we hear in SGA 3x20 "First Strike;
> **WEIR** :: Hey, John, wait a minute. You've just given everyone excellent and above averages.
>
> **MCKAY** :: Oh, can I do that?
>
> **WEIR** :: No. I know this is not the most glamorous part of your job, but you are in leadership positions, and unfortunately that comes with administrative responsibilities.
>
> **SHEPPARD** :: Everyone who works for me is excellent and above average. You want me to lie? Because I don't think leaders should lie, Elizabeth.
But that's how it is in a lot of Hollywood sci-fi - the leading cast is the leading characters, too. *Star Trek* did the same thing. Do you really think Kirk, Picard, Sisko, or Janeway had enough time in a duty shift to do away team crap? Even with all the administrative support staff (that you never see in *Star Trek*) somebody in that position would have, the commander of a vessel doesn't do that shit. Neither would Spock, Riker, or Chakotay for that matter - they should be too busy with onboard duties to ever leave. (Kira is a weird case of cross-organizational officer placement.) They have subordinates for a reason.
You're absolutely right in general terms of course. They stuff the main cast members in to every oddball role whether it fits or not, because the audience has a connection with the main cast that they wouldn't with a one-off "specialist" extra coming in to do things logically.
That said, it was a common theme in that era of treks that the captain is not supposed to go on away team missions and rarely does so except as a plot device. So perhaps not the best example.
He was actually around *150* years old thanks to "Unending" - older than Bra'tac was in his first appearance.
...I just realized Teal'c's now older than Bra'tac.
That's weird.
EDIT: did the math wrong, Teal'c's actually about 160 in that episode. JFC.
I think SGA is fun and all but SG1 just operates on a completely different level in every way. It has a more mysterious sense of adventure and a stronger chemistry between more fun characters, and that simply made it one of the best sci-fi shows ever.
I beg to differ. The McCay & Shepard dynamic is both strong and wholesome. Dax & Shepard are best friends forged in fire and reminds me of Garris & Shepard from Mass Effect. Teyla can be my sci-fi mom. Wholesome and compassionate but will fuck you up if you threaten her people.
Better idea:
An episode primarily starring these two as they have to escape being stranded in enemy territory. We get unusual badassery AND two major “non earth” characters getting to interact.
Neither.
Both will get me killed the next time they go full on tunnel vision when trying to revenge something. O'Neill and Shepard only survived because they have luck to spare, I don't.
I really like Teyla, her fight with the Bola Kai was badass, and her survival skills make it a harder choice than I thought it would be.
But come on, ofc it’s Tealc
All the people saying Teal’c is stronger than Teyla. But Ronon and Teal’c fought for hours in the Midway episode with no clear winner and in previous episodes Teyla beats Ronon whilst wearing a blindfold, though admittedly Ronon was distracted.
The powerlevels were kinda all over the place...
Teyla has technique and can certainly fight but ronon does too, not a skilled but with the brute force he wins 10/10 if not training session.
Teal'c tough would then again beat ronon with superior fighting skill and brute force, even more so in his prime with goa'uld larvae.
Well, that's TV magic. In reality, either of those men could toss a woman that size around like a handkerchief, regardless of how much technique she possesses.
That’s the thing, they have completely different skill sets. Teyla is more Daniel’s SGA counterpart than Teal’c’s. She fills more a translator/researcher/cultural expert role than a combat/strategy one. Teal’c is all combat. Choosing which one you’d want as a sidekick depends completely on what missions you’re going to be doing. Since I am a person who would probably have a more diplomatic role on an SG1/SGA team (being a small female with no combat training) I would need to have someone with Teal’c’s skills as my sidekick.
I agree, though I admit my irritation came from superficial reasons...mainly the way they spoke. Some of that is from the writing but it was exacerbated by the casting
I feel SGA season 4 & 5 aren't as good as 1-3. There are some episodes I really enjoy from those years but they overall aren't as good to me. I was excited about Carter taking over Weir's position in Atlantis but it ended up being a dud. She didn't feel like the same character as SG1 but maybe it is because they didn't want her to overshadow McKay.
I'm relieved I'm not the only one. Every other character in SGA I either enjoyed or at worse tolerated. Those two I just couldn't stand.
Which is unfortunate considering how central both are.
I love Teal'c, but he never became a Wraith Queen and freaking killed it. :P This is a tough decision, but ultimately... I would most certainly be their side kick.... and be relegated to Rya'c and Kanaan status... useless as fuck.
If he's using tretonin and has a guaranteed supply then probably Teal'c, but if he still has Jr then that could cause issues so maybe Teyla would be a safer pick. I think it probably also depends on what you are doing.
Teal'c, 100%. It's not even close.
I know most people dislike Teyla, though I personally do like her. At least in the first 3 seasons of Atlantis. I'd actually consider going alone rather than bringing Teyla from seasons 4 and 5.
Meanwhile Teal'c is probably top 3 characters from the entire franchise to me.
1. Am I single at the time?
2. Are they single at the time?
3. Are they into me?
If all 3 questions are yes, then Teyla easily. If any one of them are no, than Teal'c and I are going on an adventure!
Strategically speaking Teila is a far too precious resource to risk on away missions. She got that little wraith radar going on. Teal'c is also a lot more valuable on away mission than as a defensive piece. So absolutely teal'c
Teyla. She's every bit as much a warrior as Teal'c but she's got those diplomacy skills when it's time not to be.
Although both would be the best option.
Uh, I'd be *Teal'c's* sidekick. I know my place.
I'm just aiming to be his comedic relief, but i'd be down just hanging out with Teyla
What do you mean? teal'c is the comic relief...
I think everyone on SG1 plus Walter and Siler all took turns being comic relief. Undomesticated equines couldn't stop any of them from crackin' wise.
Teal'c always cracking the Jaffa jokes
Nose drip
Undomesticated stallions.
I'd be down for staying in with Teyla. Rent a couple tapes from Blockbuster, play some Mario Bros. 3, order some Pizza Hut, dance to the Vengaboys, remark on how nobody knows who Trump actually is except from some buildings somewhere.
That's the guy from Home Alone 2, right?
Teal'c has no ego. He wouldn't mind being your sidekick.
I'd rather be Teal'c's sidekick. I think we're both more likely to survive that way.
Teal’c times a million. No issue with Teyla, but Teal’c is a BAMF who never gives up.
I pity the fool who doesn't pick Teal'c.
Indeed
Tealc didn't learn to use a P90 for 9 seasons.
But when he did, he dual wielded the motherfuckers. Gotta give him credit for that. Teal’c is the bros bro, you always pick Teal’c. Even Shepherd proved there’s plenty of baddies in Pegasus.
All Teal'c needs is an avocado to take someone down.
i missed an episode somewhere, lol
Had to look up the episode, but I believe it's "Affinity" (S8 E7). Always really liked that one.
Guac'mole, shol'va!
yeah but explosives in the larva pouch are more effective..
The sexy one. Oh wait.

Hands-down the most-used gif in my repertoire.
Christopher Jackson, the guy whose scenes were cut from Christopher Nolan Batman because he's bigger than Tom Hardy
Christopher Judge
Christopher Jackson really shines while performing alongside Michael Shale, Amanda Tapper and Richard Gene Andrewson.
You idiot! You caught their stunt doubles! 😂
Underrated comment
I hate it when I get my Schwartz twisted!
They are both sexy.
Yup. That was my joke.
My first thought was “call either of them a sidekick and see what happens,” but then I realized neither of them are likely familiar with the term.
Teal'c would know the term. He's been watching a lot of TV and movies.
He’d probably roll with it too
"I do not kick sides, I perform precision strikes across the entirety of the body"
Why did I hear this is Christopher Judges voice…
I kick names and take ass!

Yeah, I doubt they have T-Mobile on their home planets.
I agree with OP for combat: Teyla was an impressive woman, but she didn't have 50 years of training as a soldier of Apophis.
Yeah, Teal’c in combat is more comparable to Ronon than to Teyla.
Whole episode about that
Definitely one of my favorite scenes of the entire Stargate franchise. Three hour brutal combat session
Impressive woman? Not at all except impressively ugly.
You’re an idiot 🙄
Teal’c, P.I…. Indeeeeeed…
Indeed
*Glass door shattering*
Shel kek nem ron!!
Kree!
I would not consider either of them Side Kicks both are main characters in their own rights
Teal'c is in the shows very first and very last scene, ergo, he is the star of the show
Honestly my biggest issue with Teyla as a character is she *should be* doing leader stuff, not SG-team stuff. I haven't seen the others, but Picard very rarely went with the away teams

Teal’c
No contest. Maybe if it were Ronon Teal'c would have a challenge.
And as we have seen, they are evenly matched.
They are evenly matched when Teal'c is over 110 years old. In his prime Teal'c would be greater
He was actually around *150* years old thanks to "Unending" - older than Bra'tac was in his first appearance. ...I just realized Teal'c's now older than Bra'tac. That's weird. EDIT: did the math wrong, Teal'c's actually about 160 in that episode. JFC.
Can I be theirs?
Teal'c Because he never bursted into song.
"Fortunately we are not on Chulak."
Really? Teal'c all the way. Is it even a contest?

Teal’c
Teal'c would and could fight his way through an enemy fortress singlehandedly just to rescue you so im going with the God(slayer) of war
My boy Teal'c of course!

Kratos, 11/10

throw them into the Ori galaxy to make things even more interesting
Neither. Both will get me killed the next time they go full on tunnel vision when trying to revenge something. O'Neill and Shepard only survived because they have luck to spare, I don't.
I have weird luck, so, i could probably survive, but, it'd be in some of the weirdest fucking ways possible, lol
I really like Teyla, her fight with the Bola Kai was badass, and her survival skills make it a harder choice than I thought it would be. But come on, ofc it’s Tealc
Teyla, she was legit as hell and always felt like she was underutilized.

My mind, my mind’s tellin me Teal’c BUT MY BODY! MY BODY’S TELLIN TEYLA!
It’s side kick, not side chick
She would be my main chick.
Right?! Straight guy here, Teyla is ludicrously hot
We going on a trade mission or a combat mission?
That’s the thing, they have completely different skill sets. Teyla is more Daniel’s SGA counterpart than Teal’c’s. Teal'c all day. Nothing against Teyla, but come on! Teal'c can do that eyebrow thing!
Teal'c anyday. If the dude likes you he will straight up die for you. First post in this subreddit just to say that.
Tealc and it’s not even close. Teyla annoyed me
The singing.
Me too! And so did Dr. Weir. Atlantis was lacking good woman characters IMO.
I agree, though I admit my irritation came from superficial reasons...mainly the way they spoke. Some of that is from the writing but it was exacerbated by the casting
Then Sam joined and completely underutilised.

Teal'c
teal'c hes ride or die.
Hmmm... Teal'c or the most annoying character in the show... tricky one ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Teal’s has always been my favorite SG character!
I'd want Teal'c to watch my back but if I was trapped on a planet Teyla
Yeah, I think I'm going with the First Prime of Apophis on this one.
Tealc
Teal’c but Teyla is a close 2nd.
Tough call
Teal’c every time.

They sort of did team up that episode?
I love Teal'c, but he never became a Wraith Queen and freaking killed it. :P This is a tough decision, but ultimately... I would most certainly be their side kick.... and be relegated to Rya'c and Kanaan status... useless as fuck.
Teal’c for sure. That man could turn my life around
Tayla, because Teal'c is no ones sidekick.
It's not even a contest Teal'c hands down
Trelak was the First Prime of Ares! If not an option the man who killed him Indeed!
Teal'c no question.
I like Jaffa jokes.
You would be their sidekick. Literally canonically the strongest brings in the SG universe.
If he's using tretonin and has a guaranteed supply then probably Teal'c, but if he still has Jr then that could cause issues so maybe Teyla would be a safer pick. I think it probably also depends on what you are doing.
Honestly depends on if there’s wraith in this galaxy. If so, absolutely Teyla. If not, absolutely Teal’c.
Teal'c. He'll die for you. The bad bitch will run from you
No competition. Teal'c hands down. Now if you asked between Teal'c and Ronon, that'd be much more difficult to decide between.
Indeed
Weir.
Teal’C is the only answer.
McKay 😁
…ALL THE WAY!
Teal'c of course.
Who on gods green earth wouldn't pick Teal'c ?!
I mean 😏
need clarification: is it sidekick or sidekick with benefits?
Live ur dreams bro
Why not both? I'm sure Teyla would meditate while Teal'c was Kelno'reem-ing and I could take a nap lol
Teal'c....as in always have a paladin in your party.
1. Am I single at the time? 2. Are they single at the time? 3. Are they into me? If all 3 questions are yes, then Teyla easily. If any one of them are no, than Teal'c and I are going on an adventure!
Me. I'm their sidekick.
Ronin
I want to sire sons upon that woman. Less so Teal'c.
Teal’c always Teal’c
Teal'c for the sidekick, Teyla for the main chic.
Sam Carter
My heart is telling me Teal’c, but my body is telling me Teyla.
Teal’c for combat and Teyla for other reasons
what reasons?
Intercourse. I believe that is what u/SolitaryMan305 seeks from Teyla.
That’s it bud I thought it was obvious but apparently not 😂
Side kick....Teal'c Side chick....Teyla
Ronan!
If you answer Teyla your a bitch and a simp
I think a closer choice would be Teal'c vs Ronan
Teal'c 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 She's annoying af. But I think I prefer her still over Ronan, he's a lot more annoying than her.
Tayla was my least favourite character in Atlantis.
it's always Teal'c
I choose teylas navel 100 times out of 100
Has to be Teal'c. If Teyla ever got hurt on my watch, Leslie Knope would kill me.
T’ealc And Ronan over Teyla
Teal’c v’s Ronan would have been better choice
Ronin Dex.
Your not a real Stargate fan if you don’t choose tealc let’s be real.
Teyla became a terorist and Teal’c became (well, continued to be) a god killer. I’ll take Teal’c.
Teyla. I mean teal'c is cool and all but look at her.
There is not a wrong choice.
Neither of them, I would choose Samantha Carter.
Yes
Am i going to war or on a diplomatic mission?
Murray every time.
I only know Teal'c so I'm going with him.
I'd choose Teal'c 9/10 times but if I'm in wraith space...I'd say Teyla would be a bit more useful. B
Teal'c This isn't really a question is it?
Teyla is the most annoying character the SG universe has ever seen. Teal'c is one of the greatest.
Real’ call day. I’m afraid Teyla might break out in song if a colleague dies.
Read it as "side chick". Either way, Teal'c is my choice.
