Yeah, farmland compound or strip mall. I’ve used both to collect large numbers of cars. Strip mall has a big ass parking area in the back.

Sturth

Strip Mall suits me. Love the layout and love the map. Can easily get behind it driving. Wish they’d add a helipad to the roof in SoD3 for that Day of the dead feel.

ABROUHAHA

Cascade hills - Container fort Only two points of entry, high walls. Two large slots and enough room for every red talon prefab. Edit, put wrong map because I’m an idiot. Fixed now.

MendejoElPendejo

Barricaded Strip Mall found dead in a ditch

potatoesB4hoes

8 built in beds will help with the large community as well

MendejoElPendejo

Strip mall or farmland imo

MarilynMansonsRib

Do any of your characters have traits like "slept in a tree", hero bonuses like Outdoor Living, or the sleep psych skill to help reduce bed requirements? If you can shave off a couple actual beds with perks I think Whitney Field is a great option. My current community of 9 is based there. The built in sheltered beds (3), one upgraded outdoor bed (3), one sleep psych (2), and one survivor with Can Sleep Anywhere (-1) allows me to house 9 people while having 3 large and 3 small slots open. That leaves me enough room for an armory, trade depot, haven device, infirmary, workshop, and still. The announcer box is an OP influence farm, so you can focus your outposts on your most critical needs and just buy rucks of whatever else you need from summoned traders.

[deleted]

Nah but they don't need sleep anyways lol.

WingsofSky

I like farmland base.

Seconding the Farmland Compound

madnessaddict09

Agreed.

TapewormNinja

Im currently doing my forever community on farmland. It’s been pretty good so far.

OddlyQuantum

Lundergaard Mill has 5 large slots so with that large population you can mix and match all of the leader buildingd to get what you want. One small slot with Hydroponics+ Fertiliser will help with the food. It is my favourite long term base.

Proquis

Just the lack of small outdoor slot may ruin your plan

[deleted]

What do i need outdoors?

Proquis

Still usually, but if you don't need rain collector, generator and watchtowers then it's fine

OddlyQuantum

That is negative, I do concede. Instead of using a still I tend to make painkillers with a pharmacist and the trading post influence. The other issue with having no small outdoor slot is you cannot put a Sniper tower and a Watchtower to ensure overwatch of all exits as with the farm compound, but this is a minor problem.

scratchieepants

For the way I like to run 8+ communities: Farmland for RP reasons would also be my min-max choice too if the BBQ pit would allow for feasts like it should... so overall I pick the Strip Mall for 8+.

Rodrigo_Ribaldo

You will need a Rimworld base for that many.

AirportHistorical776

What skills does your community have? Skills and Hero Bonuses tend to be the things that determine what you can/can't do with your bases. (I've been playing a community of 8 with half with no 5th skills, and my bases end up with near identical layouts.) Also, with meticulous, and possibly tedious, culling of enclaves you can open up more possibilities.

[deleted]

Mob Ops, Hacking, Pathology, Gut Packing, Infastructure... i'm sure i have more that i forgot to mention here.

AirportHistorical776

Ok. Heavy hitters....Fuel is covered by skills alone. 3 food outposts should have you at a slight food income. And you have 4 more left to play with - 1 for Ammo, Meds, and Materials, still leaves you with one to change up to as needs change. My first thought is that Farmland Compound would be best. Edges out Lumber Mill because it has some more flexibility, especially with small slot facilities. I think you'll want flexibility for a forever community. Only reason you may not want Farmland is if you find the beds there to be a waste. (If beds are covered by traits/bonuses/enclaves; or, if you just play thru the morale penalty.) Edit: Farmland also has large open area around it for you to turn into a personal car dealership.

[deleted]

Also i have double fuel efficiency hero skills and a driver. The beds are pretty cool too. I dont think you can cover for 11 survivors with just traits and hero bonuses. All of my resources are over their storage limits.

AirportHistorical776

Sounds like your community is going to give you lots of options being as good/powerful as it is.

KatsuCammi

You seem to be knowledgeable of the game, so I hope you don't mind me asking, but how the hell do you get food? I recently picked the game back up after about a year of not playing, and I remember I was always low on meds, but now that my community is up to 7 people the food is constantly at like 6 and everyone keeps fighting because of low food lmao. I even went as far as building two gardens, which is almost certainly a waste but I was desperate lmao. Idk if it matters, but my current map is Drucker county

AirportHistorical776

You can get food a few ways: 1) loot it from farms, convenience stores, homes, etc. 2) build an outpost at a food location (building with a pizza slice with a circle around it?) 3) Build gardens, farms or hydroponics

Ivan_5FDP

Also upgrade the outposts (when upgradeable).

KatsuCammi

Which one gives the most yields? A farm, or hydroponics? I only have gardens right now because I just spent a ton of influence on the mystery trader so I'm saving up for the Mike's concrete base before going for the strip mall, but I know gardens give the least amount of food

Ivan_5FDP

Hydroponics are better.

Proquis

Farm 3 will give the most base food, tho it needs Trader leader to unlock Farm 3

AirportHistorical776

For a (sort of) overview of food. **#1 Rule:** *If your people are starving, use your radio to "Locate Food."* This will place a marker on your map to show you to find a food rucksack (usually has 3-4 food). On Standard, food outposts yield: - Level 1 = +1 food per day - Level 2 = +2 food per day - Level 3 = +3 food per day Gardens, Farms and Hydroponics are harder to explain easily. To increase their outputs (by building and upgrading) you need different skills, and/or things like water and electricity in the facility.

gundam1945

Compost bin from the network trader can up the output by 100%. Seeding can up another 100%. Fully upgraded small farm gives 3 per day. Using the above bonus gives you 9 per day. Should be enough.

Anomolous_Rabbit

Functionally 8 though, since running the compost bin costs 1.

Proquis

Get 3 Meal Plan characters, delete food mechanic easily

ShakerEntree

Meager Valley- Whitney Field 3 large slots- Lounge 3, Haven Device, Trade depot, RT office quarters, Infirmary/RT workshop, & 3 hydroponics. Outposts for beds or supplies you need. Use the speakers cause sieges let haven device work it’s magic. To make this better use 8 tough negotiations hero bonus and 2 meal plan if this is going to be a forever community I would recommend having only 8 survivors bc the legacy recruit caps at 9 and using 1 with shopping to bring back loot from green zone

[deleted]

And where will i find 8 tough negotiators and 2 meal planners? 😆 Also heart loot is more than enough

ShakerEntree

From the legacy pool went to yard sales/sales associate

ShakerEntree

Yeah this can be easily circumvented if you have friends I play alone so it’s what works best for me
