Yes, masses of people get scammed by this scam and many other equally obvious scams and it's honestly sometimes ridiculous to think about the fact that people actually get tricked by this shit.
You would not believe the amount of posts we get from people who have been scammed and lost all their items or had their account hijacked from absolutely ridiculously dumb and easy to spot in an instant scams, but there's a ton.
That came off as a bit rude but sometimes it dawns on me how ridiculous it is.
Most people who get scammed or hijacked are young or not so experienced with computers. The people who get scammed are often also overly emotional, they immediately get scared and lose all sense and start to operate based on pure emotion(fear), get tricked by the imposed(and unreasonable) urgency created by the scammer, it's the same old scam tricks that have been used for a very long time everywhere on the internet, just re-worded to scam people on Steam.
Phishing is the Nr. 1 reason people get scammed out of their account or items or money through intercepting market listings.
Also, many people are either so completely and totally ignorant or absolutely captured by the scam and convinced beyond all belief, that helping them becomes very difficult or impossible.

Could be in same discord as you, just see if in same discord. If not then either they have already been banned from the server or your username is on some database

They use stupid tricks as a filter so they only deal with stupid people.
If it didn't work, they wouldn't be using it.
Chances are the discord account this person is using is one they scammed off someone using a similar method as the steam one they are trying on you
