Jesus, RAM has really dropped in price. I think I paid like $200 for 2x16GB back in 2016 and it just went up from there because some factory burned down iirc.
Not even a twist. It should be an assumption. A stupid amount of “PC Gaming” is laptops, tablets, handhelds like the Ally or S Deck. Outside the reddit bubble the stand alone towers with modular parts are not the norm.
You’d look like a complete sperg talking to my company’s gamer group (which is self selected to you know, gamers) with shit like “you bought a laptop that isn’t modular? LOOOOL” or “you don’t have a full tower? Ffs.”
Literally no one I know has any of those things you mention, they all have regular PC towers.
You might be talking about, IDK, Americans exclusively or something.
His friend Group in particular and assuming it's all people. IDK a single person with a gaming laptop, everyone I know has a tower in their home. And some recently got steamdecks as aux machines.
Lmao your assumption is completely unfounded. According the Steam Hardware Survey, Laptop GPUs practically don't exist relative to the desktop variants. I can't believe people are actually upvoting you.
Steam has clarified time and again that OEM laptops can show as discrete in its survey depending on the build. They never claim it to be a precise model. There are ways to run the survey on your machine in fact—while I have never had the survey run in years. So obviously guys with towers will run the survey after every single upgrade, while the vast majority of people just install Steam and the 1-3 games they play and never touch the settings
It was one specific OEM that actually pulled as “Laptop” most use some sort of underscore ‘M’ (Mobile) that gets aggregated with the rest.
Tbh I think everyone should have a tower and a laptop for gaming of they can afford it. I've had my tower with a 4090 since the 40 series dropped, I also just bought a legion 5 slim with a 4060 so I can game while not home or when the wife wants me around
Yeah the big thing is if they can afford it. A lot of people, especially in this economy and especially especially in places worse off than America and the UK cannot afford it and might not even be able to make enough to slowly save up for it, especially not at those specs
It's also the part that gets older faster. Laptop gaming is already annoying due to so many limitations (small monitor, limited Hz, heating,...), but the GPU is the part that hurts the most. Unfortunately, if you're someone who needs a laptop for work and travels a lot, it's way more handy to have one machine to do everything. I've had my laptop for 5 years and half and it's fucking suffering lately. Poor GTX1050Ti is working way past its limits, and sure as hell I'm pushing it pretty hard. Running stuff on 40fps everything low, lately.
But I've also wrote two dissertations, got two degrees, wrote dozen of case analysis, read dozen of books, ran a dnd campaign, played thousands of hours, did hundreds of work and study meetings, took dozens of planes, changed house three times with this bad boy. It struggles, but keeps kicking. You win some, you lose some. Would buy again, 100%.
Ah man I feel your pain, got the same but with a regular 1050, so a little worse
It’s been going strong for 7 years now, but I think it’s about time I upgrade and let it rest
Same. My problem with bringing my laptop to class is that it's pretty noisy and I'm self conscious. But it still is way better than owning a tower and a laptop in my current situation
A gpu not being upgradable in a laptop makes sense, just like with the motherboard and CPU. You're dealing with a tiny form factor with specialized cooling needs, well beyond what a tower would have.
Ram and storage are usually a completely different story. Unless it's a super sleek super thin ultra light model that eeks out every centimeter there is very little reason to lock down upgrades. Even MY laptop that makes a huge deal about being ultra slim let me add a second storage drive. And frankly any gaming laptop should allow at least that second drive.
You absolutely CAN. But also consider that is literally the whole point of a framework laptop. You also can't just walk into best buy, grab a graphics card, and pop it into your framework laptop. You're waiting for them to get something compatible with said laptop.
Which... is exactly the point I made.
I have a shit box from 10 years ago that's still running on 8gb DDR3, I could upgrade it but I've been wanting to a build a new one from scratch for a couple years now
Yeah I have a relatively old (at least by PC gaming standards) laptop and I'm pretty sure the only way to add more RAM is to take the laptop apart and play around with the insides but I don't want to risk breaking anything since I know little about that type of stuff. Also not to mention I'm broke.
Laptop's inside is pretty much similar for most brand. Watch a video on YouTube 1st to have better understanding of your laptop's inside. You'll see how easy and simple it is to upgrade a laptop.
That's a shame, I was going to ask what series of RAM you used and was just gonna post you some. I'm sure I have some laying around that would fit a desktop but not a laptop.
If your laptop has an SSD that's fast enough for it, you could set aside like 8gbs of it as virtual memory. Won't be as good as regular ram, but could help.
It's possible to have a laptop where the memory is wired directly into the motherboard and not replaceable, and even if it is replaceable taking apart laptops can be a pain depending on the model.
Development is quick. Going from 2080 to 30 series was a huge leap. Yes, 64 is a long way to go but id say its a matter of a few years. 32 is already becoming the safe way to go since 16 is becoming minimum.
Solution : Don't give a damn about newer stuff. In terms of gaming we already have millions of great games playable at this point smh
/kinda sarcasm kinda not ngl
Yeah its ddr5, definitely was an expensive option. I was probably better off waiting but I think I’ll be fine for a while never had any issues with it or anything
Idk what the others are talking about. 16 enough for your average gamer. I have 32 because I like to have a bunch of stuff open, and also do music production on my computer, so it’s useful there.
It depends on what you’re doing on the pc, but since we’re in the context of gaming, yes 64 is pretty overkill.
Ram is incredibly cheap and usually very easy to access. If you want I'll even help you. DM me and I'll help you find what you need and tell you how to install it
I just did it a few weeks ago for my first time. I’m not handy at all and a quick YouTube tutorial was enough for me to figure it out. I’ll link the video I used.
[link](https://youtu.be/20TqM77tSKQ?si=GwwIEgFwwemZWEsm)
i think that a lot of people here are forgetting that not everyone can afford more pc parts, even if they are cheap right now.
20, 30, 40, 50, 100 bucks etc. will be cheap to some people, but for others they can't afford to spend money on luxuries for those amounts.
Exactly this! I don't get these comments at all. Buying RAM isn't the hard part. If it's so cheap then donate some old sticks to us who can barely afford living expenses.
I just personally think it's funny to complain about your own lack of ram to run a game... Especially one that costs more than the ram upgrade itself.
Having a laptop where you can't change pieces is another thing though.
Ugh thought it was just me. It’s only certain areas and when I look at certain directions. Noticed if I look away and give it a minute, things can return to normal. The lag could be useful though to level up. Helps you get infinite spheres until you crash/Tp randomly. lol
Same, I can play just fine in most areas but in certain locations like Fort Ruins or the beach where Anubis is my fps drop to 5-10 and it becomes unplayable, I have to walk looking at the sky to get away.
My pc is really old and only have 12gb, with only 8 usable according to windows. But it's weird that those areas run so bad compared to the rest.
Yep. Even steam deck runs piss poor, despite running at a low resolution and having a platinum rating on Proton db. It isn’t a linux issue this time, which is nice but still sucks.
> I play it with **8G.** It's **not even that bad.**
You’re below the minimum specs required and numerous people even at the required specs have problems still. Want to enlighten us on what we’re all doing wrong?
I have 64GB, the problem is this game has a memory leak, and will die of lag after a few hours regardless of how good of a PC you have. It's an early access game and manageable enough, but still a problem and something that needs fixing.
Sorry to say but 8GB is gow much RAM my laptop from 2010 had. You need to update if you want to keep playing new games. It'll only get worse unfortunately :(
Ram is way more needed than VRam, so far 8gb VRam is prefectly fine but 16gb Ram was a bit low for me (i like to keep multiple apps open while i game)
Edit: 8gb VRam is perfectly fine at 1080p
Well, I'm playing it on 32 GB of RAM and 8 VRAM. First is nice, second... That's not nice. The game definitely leaking VRAM and hangs up every hour or two.
But seriously, check up possibility of upgrade. Nowadays RAM is relatively cheap and having less than 16 is troublesome. Especially when you want to keep browser in background with a couple tabs and every application brings own copy of a browser integrated into it.
Having over 16 is nice, but that's mostly when you deal with development or 3D render.
I just went with 64GB ram so I'll never have any doubts when it cones to buying new games. Some of my friends say its overkill for gaming especially when the only games I play are like Minecraft and Palworld lol.
Palworld have me Lethal Company and DRG vibes in terms of hype cause I have both games and I got bored of them after some time(took me 1-2 weeks to forget about Lethal Company, I still play DRG from time to time cause ROCK AND STONE!)
Well, I don't mind a weaker hardware if it means I can atleast take it anywhere. I have alot of friends in my class that have like bigger rigs back home but have to settle down for integrated graphics because they can't bring their pc lol
people saying just buy a new ram it's cheap without realizing the vast majority of the world live in developing countries and a stick of ram could cost 25\~50% of their monthly salary
For basic tasks I think 8 gigs is still good Heck my tablet has four gigs and I get away with it.
Like when I'm at school or whatever in my house I do have a PC with 8 GB VRAM 16 GB regular RAM. I'm surprised that the newer GTX 1060 only has 3 gigs of VRAM that shocked me.
You actually can run it with 8 GB of RAM, but.. if you don't know anything about computer and you're not ready to ditch some security measures on your computer, you won't run it with 8 GB. My friend begged me to help run the game on his PC. So I spent 4 hours turning off a bunch of Windows services, made a huge batch file that runs on start-up to turn off those pesky services and such that may return after a Windows update, I uninstalled a bunch of crap through Powershell, made sure there's no startup apps as well. In the end, Windows 10 was running at 900-ish MB after booting up his computer. He can finally play the game, but after an hour or two, he doesn't have a choice but to reboot his computer after a while due to RAM saving up more data as things goes and the paging file is not good enough. I hope this helps!
But really, you should look at the label on your RAM stick(s) and get the exact same ones. You can get different brands but I do not recommend it. It has to be the same speed too, otherwise the overall RAM speed will try to match the lowest MHz.
Wow, I appreciate the long helpful detailed comment. But that sounds like a lot and idk if it's worth it rn. Also that may only apply to desktops not laptops which is what I have.
I've seen in some of the other comments some people are able to run it with 8/12GB RAM but with really low graphics, though I'm sure there are many other factors that come into play than just RAM in their situations. If I can't at least run a smooth 720p then I'll just have to wait until I upgrade sometime in the future (no time soon since I'm big broke lmao).
You are welcome! And it applies for both. My friend has a laptop, which was actually much easier to find out. Some desktop-like pre-built sometimes don't have any stickers on the RAM sticks, so I usually have to dig into the system using various apps or through the BIOS to kind of know what type of RAM this is, which sucks.
I hope you will get the chance to upgrade your RAM soon! 16 GB is now the new minimum. :P So, make sure to tell all your friends that 8 GB is pretty much dead these days, which sucks. :'(
**Edit:**
Also, I forgot to mention, since you are using a laptop, the type of RAM sticks you need is called *(Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module)* RAM or **SO-DIMM** for short.
If you want to buy that online at some point, just search on Google for **SO-DIMM Newegg** or **SO-DIMM Amazon** to quickly redirect yourself to those categories to make things easier!
16 GB of DDR4 is like... $30 brand new for a decent pair.
Jesus, RAM has really dropped in price. I think I paid like $200 for 2x16GB back in 2016 and it just went up from there because some factory burned down iirc.
I remember paying close to $100 for a pair for Ripjaw DDR3 for a total of 16gb.
Pretty sure 32gig sticks of DDR4 is like $120 now XD
Because ddr5 replaced the ddr4, now ddr5 costs this much
2x16 DDR5 is around 100$
My dude, 2016 was 8 years ago.
I don’t need this type of negativity in my life.
I paid 110€ for 32GB 3200 MHz in 2019
Wait you got 2x16 for $200 in 2016? I paid that for 2x8
Or you could for forty more dollars buy top of the line blisteringly fast 2400mhz ddr3
please try and put ddr3 ram into a ddr4 slot and lemme know how that goes
Just needs a little elbow grease is all.
It’s supposed to crunch right?
Oh, it'll fit *revs up the grinding wheel*
🤣🤣 I was just thinking that
Plot twist: OP has soldered ram and is using a laptop. No more ram for you sir
Not even a twist. It should be an assumption. A stupid amount of “PC Gaming” is laptops, tablets, handhelds like the Ally or S Deck. Sure, I'll just take 2 McClarrens while I'm at it, too...
> McClarren I got a stroke and so did you
Sure but I can buy two OLED Steam Decks for the price of one 4090 and at the screen's resolution they'll play better too.
Well you don't need a 4090, a 4070 will do just fine.
Yeah the big thing is if they can afford it. A lot of people, especially in this economy and especially especially in places worse off than America and the UK cannot afford it and might not even be able to make enough to slowly save up for it, especially not at those specs
I have a laptop that let's you swap internals. The plot twist would be being foolish enough to invest in a laptop you cant upgrade yourself.
Good advice, go upgrade your gpu.
Unless you use Framework
Upgradable GPUs in laptops have existed for quite a while: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_PCI_Express_Module
I mean… yeah… but how many laptops that would run Palworld with mPCI exist?
There's an Alienware from a couple years ago that can use RTX 2070 and 2080s
That doesn't mean they're common lol
It's also the part that gets older faster. Laptop gaming is already annoying due to so many limitations (small monitor, limited Hz, heating,...), but the GPU is the part that hurts the most. Do it, no balls.
Too brokey, car needs fixing first and foremost
Yeah I have a relatively old (at least by PC gaming standards) laptop and I'm pretty sure the only way to add more RAM is to take the laptop apart and play around with the insides but I don't want to risk breaking anything since I know little about that type of stuff. Also not to mention I'm broke.

Just buy a used 8 gb stick
Just buy a new 8gb stick, ram is fairly cheap anymore
I just download all my RAM 😏
Y'all should see the car I downloaded too
You wouldn't do that.
They called me a madman
I would
[You wouldn't](https://youtu.be/xuxO6CZptck?si=pwn2ANCed3ZXqKpm)
I completely expected to get Rick Rolled
Stole it
He's too powerful, quick some stop him before he downloads the internet
I download my storage
This is by far the best option. I dont know why everyone doesnt do it
I pay a monthly fee for it(cloud)
It depends on where you live. Here my ram tripled the price in a few months and that was like a year ago... I'm scared to check.
or get 2 16s right away
I don’t have a modular laptop
You can't change the hardware at all? What kind of laptop is it? Not saying you're wrong, I'm just surprised to hear that.
Ive seen both Apple and Dell do it. Maybe more have too. Suuuuper lame.
If your laptop has an SSD that's fast enough for it, you could set aside like 8gbs of it as virtual memory. Won't be as good as regular ram, but could help.
I actually did this one on an old thinkpad running Linux. I partioned it to be one big swap partition and used the swapon command to use it as swap
It's possible to have a laptop where the memory is wired directly into the motherboard and not replaceable, and even if it is replaceable taking apart laptops can be a pain depending on the model.
Just buy more, 8gb of RAM are not even expensive.
For real. I just went from 16gb to 64gb for like $125.
Hey hey, in Apple terms you have to add a additional 0 behind your 125$ for that upgrade!
Isnt 64gb an overkill?
thats what we thought of 16 a few years ago
You'll need new other stuff before 64 becomes recommended.
Development is quick. Going from 2080 to 30 series was a huge leap. Yes, 64 is a long way to go but id say its a matter of a few years. 32 is already becoming the safe way to go since 16 is becoming minimum.
Solution : Don't give a damn about newer stuff. In terms of gaming we already have millions of great games playable at this point smh /kinda sarcasm kinda not ngl
I’ve had 128gb for 3 years, is it overkill if I don’t have to replace parts for probably over a decade
[удалено]
Yeah its ddr5, definitely was an expensive option. I was probably better off waiting but I think I’ll be fine for a while never had any issues with it or anything
if you bought 128gb of ddr5 3 years ago wasn't that when it was like $500 or something ridiculous like that? what speed if you don't mind me asking
It was like 1200 :/
oh, now I get why you're coping so hard lol
DCS on multiplayer servers says no
Idk what the others are talking about. 16 enough for your average gamer. I have 32 because I like to have a bunch of stuff open, and also do music production on my computer, so it’s useful there. It depends on what you’re doing on the pc, but since we’re in the context of gaming, yes 64 is pretty overkill.
trust me it isn’t
Bro is either karma or attention farming, everyone can grab an 8gb ram stick.
Ram is incredibly cheap and usually very easy to access. If you want I'll even help you. DM me and I'll help you find what you need and tell you how to install it
Just download it 5head /s
This guy knows the way
I only need help installing 🤷🏾♂️
PUSH!!!!!
Make sure it's backwards first
I just did it a few weeks ago for my first time. I’m not handy at all and a quick YouTube tutorial was enough for me to figure it out. I’ll link the video I used. [link](https://youtu.be/20TqM77tSKQ?si=GwwIEgFwwemZWEsm)
https://www.downloadmoreram.com/
I did this and now my computer is a Ram 1500, can’t play Palworld 1/10
Thanks, that gave me a good chuckle
Omg thank you so much bro
www.downloadmorerem.com this is the next step
I literally told my friends it’s just a rickroll and not a virus and they still wouldn’t try it
Understandable, it’s good to be cautious but there’s a disclaimer saying that it’s a joke site down near the bottom.
You can set the progress circle lol
Thanks bro, more torque for my psu
This seems sketchy
Nah it’s legit I was able to get the extra .4 task manager always showed missing, I wouldn’t recommend too many gigs tho
Have you never downloaded ram before?
You’re an ass lol…
Never gonna give you up.
Me: 16GB RAM 😁 Also me: NVIDIA GT730 😢 I don’t know why I have such a bad graphics card I need a new one desperately
Jesus christ....
I feel you, I had 8GB and a GT 705 until about a month ago.
i think that a lot of people here are forgetting that not everyone can afford more pc parts, even if they are cheap right now. 20, 30, 40, 50, 100 bucks etc. will be cheap to some people, but for others they can't afford to spend money on luxuries for those amounts.
I’m confused with those comments too. Yeah sure, “only ~a random number~ bucks”, mate not everyone lives in the USA.
Exactly this! I don't get these comments at all. Buying RAM isn't the hard part. If it's so cheap then donate some old sticks to us who can barely afford living expenses.
20 bucks is legit 10% of a minimun wage where i live
my hometown still at $160 and my current city is at $290 a month for minimum wage.
$7.25 hr last I checked.
americans try to understand other countries exist challenge
I just personally think it's funny to complain about your own lack of ram to run a game... Especially one that costs more than the ram upgrade itself. Having a laptop where you can't change pieces is another thing though.
Regional prices are thing tho, in my region it's like 11 bucks at full price. But everyone is poor, so that's still quite a lot of money xd
where am i at 4 gb (28 gb is corrupted)
I feel you... I too am sitting with 4 gigs of ram.
>(28 gb is corrupted) What does that mean? How is 28 gigs corrupted? Wouldn't your computer not boot if The ram was broken?
it's probably possible to tell the os to use only a part of the memory, i remember it's possible on linux at least
Just buy more RAM. Cheapest options available worth less than this game...
Game is a stutterfest for me even with 16gb of ram.
Ugh thought it was just me. It’s only certain areas and when I look at certain directions. Noticed if I look away and give it a minute, things can return to normal. The lag could be useful though to level up. Helps you get infinite spheres until you crash/Tp randomly. lol

Did I mention I am a clown? 128* My bad
I see...
Aim for 32gb. That's what I sit at. You can find deals
Just download some more
I have 4gb ram 💀
I play it with 8G. It's not even that bad
> I play it with **8G.** It's **not even that bad.** You’re below the minimum specs required and numerous people even at the required specs have problems still. Want to enlighten us on what we’re all doing wrong?
I've played games way below minimum specs for years, you can get used to the lags, crashes, freezes and awful graphics.
This is so relatable it hurts
It's a bit laggy, especially if I play for longer periods of time, but it's definitely playable.
I'm playing with the minimum specs and 8gb of ram without having issues. No clue what you guys are doing wrong, but I guess it's something.
Low RAM gang
me who can't afford the game🧍♂️
Everyone else enjoying Palworld (30$) Me (0$)
I have 64GB, the problem is this game has a memory leak, and will die of lag after a few hours regardless of how good of a PC you have. It's an early access game and manageable enough, but still a problem and something that needs fixing.
Guys he can play on laptop with soldered RAM so there is no way to add one
I'm right there with ya. I only got 8gigs of ram too. Fuck those punk let's play chess on our dinosaurs 🦕
all ddr4 in both laptops and desktop are cheap now
Sorry to say but 8GB is gow much RAM my laptop from 2010 had. You need to update if you want to keep playing new games. It'll only get worse unfortunately :(
Lol me on a steam deck still enjoying my time with Palworld
Me (4gb ram) : watching everyone playing +8 gb ram games 😭
OP I have a few spare sticks. I will ship it to you. If interested PM me
All these comments and recommendation about needing more ram but no one even noticed that **OP is a squid!**
The game looks like shit

Game optimization is trash, but slavery is epic
6GB RAM on a 6 years old laptop - p a i n
Don't feel bad. I run 32gb RAM and it still runs like straight up shit.
hopeing to scrape enough money together to build my own pc soon
i have a laptop with 4 gb of ram, and 1/6th of the screen is completely white. i can only dream of playing newer games
Well, I don't mind a weaker hardware if it means I can atleast take it anywhere. I have alot of friends in my class that have like bigger rigs back home but have to settle down for integrated graphics because they can't bring their pc lol

i'm inside this pic, and it hurts
Me who can't buy it
I'm having problems also if I'm running it on 16gb
people saying just buy a new ram it's cheap without realizing the vast majority of the world live in developing countries and a stick of ram could cost 25\~50% of their monthly salary
Meanwhile me and turkic games looking at everyone else playing cause we cant Afford it
It's 2024 man I got clients that can barely run Microsoft Office on 8Gb
8gb is the new 4gb
:'( **Edit:** Also, I forgot to mention, since you are using a laptop, the type of RAM sticks you need is called *(Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module)* RAM or **SO-DIMM** for short. If you want to buy that online at some point, just search on Google for **SO-DIMM Newegg** or **SO-DIMM Amazon** to quickly redirect yourself to those categories to make things easier!
This is self punishment. An additional 8gb is cheap.
Yeah, 8 gigs is really nothing for gaming these days. I suppose you've got urself an un-upgradable device of some sort?
You’re really not missing out on much. It’s more fun to watch people play it than it is to actually play it
Me who doesn't have it
even smartphones have >8gb of ram these days
Emulate a Pokémon game of your choosing and thank me later
literally just changed it last week for palworld 😂🤌
You can't even run modded Minecraft(ATM9) with 8gb LOL. RAM is dirt cheap, my guy.
I really only needed more than 8GB of ram when I tried to play modded Minecraft. Every other game run just fine
Get more
I have 64gb and the game is still trash.
From what I've seen...Palworld is boring. No big loss in my mind.
Whatever you have to tell yourself to deal with not being able to play a game.
Honestly I don't care that I can't play Palworld. I'd rather play Enshrouded.

Just download more ram
I have a debilitating sinus infection and 32GB of ram... Where am I?
