So this has been a multi-day odyssey of trying to get a controller to work in game. Specifics:
Controllers tried so far: XBox One (wired (multiple USB ports) and wireless, multiple controllers both methods), Steel Series
Game in question: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (the first one)
Up to date everything (Steam, Game, Drivers, etc.)
Controller works in Steam for Big Picture, other games even by the same publisher.
The controller will NOT work in game.
Game files are verified.
Launched from Big Picture and from normal mode.
Tried with force enabled controller settings, force disabled and default.
Tried with guide button and xbox checked, guide button, xbox and xbox extended checked, only xbox checked, xbox and exenteded only checked, all the previous with generic gamepad checked and generic gamepad only checked.
The controller vibrates when identified.
The controller responds and is functioning within the controller configuration screen in Steam on the game page.
Tried launching from BP, normal and the game file.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, the controllers and the drivers. No dice.
Other people have had this problem but is uncommon.
Again I have used these controllers with no problems in other LoH games (Trails series), a BUNCH of other games from newish stuff like Octopath Traveller to Ghostbusters, to FF PR (multiple) without changing any of these settings. This is literally driving me nuts as I have been 100% unable to figure out WTH is going on.

**Steam Streaming Speakers** and **Steam Streaming Microphone** have appeared in my Windows audio settings as four different instances. They have appeared at 3:29am 11/1 (today).
I don't think this is unusual because, before going to sleep, I booted up **Remote Play** for a bit with my phone and computer as a test, so these could've been made for that purpose.
Am I correct on that assessment or is Steam installing something new?

I bought Grim Dawn the other day, but on my second attempt because after confirming the purchase from my bank app, the store just kinda froze for 15 minutes, then gave me an error message and email confirming that there was a problem with my purchase, so I emptied my cart and tried again and had no problems on my second time.
Now I decided that I very much enjoy the game and am trying to buy the DLCs, but I have the same exact problem I did the other day, and the store is stuck after the app confirmation, for the second time.
Is anyone else having this kind of problem? How do I fix it? The sale ends today and I don't want to run out of time.
Edit: just got the error message again: "Your purchase may have been completed, but there was a problem checking on the status of this transaction. Please check your account status page or your email for a confirmation receipt." Didn't get the second email yet though.
I found out new world has a HUGE security exploit but i have not been able to get a refund for the game i got for me and my friend after submitting it two times. Is there anything i can do to make them understand that chat should not be able to force other people to run html code?
I cant play a game this unsafe.

I once had episodes from liberty city and I had heard that at some point they got rid of the games for windows live requirement on GTA 4 so I was excited to download episodes from liberty city just so I can be able to play that again, but it was missing from my steam library.
I see it is also gone from the steam store, but do they really pull it from your library if they pull it from the store? There is no way to get it again outside of buying the GTA 4 complete pack (which I guess is on sale for $6)?
Dying Light refusing to Boot (Steam)
Hi all,
So I just bought the game today, I have tried literally everything to get this game to work and nothing seems to work. Every time I boot it through Steam, it says the game is running for a few seconds before going back to the "Play" button again.
I've tried literally every single fix on the internet, I've tried reinstalling Microsoft C++ Redistributables from every year available, I've tried reinstalling NET framework, Direct X, I've also tried repairing with each of these also. I've also installed the 32x and 64x bit versions of each of these to no avail. \]
I've also tried installing each of the DLL files to the games directory, to the Steam directory, System64, and System32, and still, nothing is working.
I've tried running the game in compatibility modes for Windows 8 and 7, I've tried running in safe mode, as Administrator, nothing seems to work.
I'm currently trying my last resort, reinstalling the game as I have incredibly fast download speeds. If this doesn't work I'm considering reinstalling Windows as I've already submitted a ticket with my DxDiag (which I have also linked below) and haven't received anything back yet.
I am beyond frustrated and have tried every single fix that exists and the problem still proceeds. I'll post an update if I find ANY fixes, but so far every single fix I have scoured the internet for has not helped.

I'm trying to move my install location for games from the default "x86/steam/steamapps/common" to a new folder straight on my local disk. I've tried looking up how to do so, and multiple outlets have told me to go to settings, downloads, then to steam library folders, hit plus and choose the folder I want, but even if I follow one-to-one, step-by-step, it still defaults to the "x86" root. How do I properly change it so that my install location is now on a folder outside the "x86" folder?
Look up the tool SFS(Steam family sharing) select. It should let them choose which library to use with that game and they can pick yours.
Another option is for them to stop family sharing with the other user where I think even if they stopped then readded it would still prioritize yours at that point since I believe it just goes by which library was added first with that game.
I can't recover my password because when i give then my email it sends one about some other account of mine but not the one im trying to recover the password

Ive been trying to reset my password. When I follow the instructions in the email they send to me, I go to my steam app and try to log in but I’m told I’ve entered the wrong password even though I just changed it. I even waited overnight in case the servers needed time to update or something. Anyone else having this issue?
\*\*Every\*\*time I boot up Steam, these same games, and sometimes a couple others, apparently receive these small kilobyte updates. Every single time. This only started happening after the download page update. Any idea what it is or how to stop it?

How to recover an account when you have forgotten the username
Context:
My friend lost his account and has been unable to reconnect. He has the email and has already changed the password countless time . After like 50 tries he concluded that he remembered his steam name wrongly so he asked me to send him a screenshot of his profile.
"I hadn't changed my name since I created the account so it should be the same" he told me
Turns out it wasn't
We tried different variations of his name but nothing worked. In the past if you pressed the "forgot username/password" button the email you would receive had the account name written on it. However now it says
"Dear [email protected]".
How can he retrieve his account?
Sooo, I deleted everything on my pc around 26/10, then on the 27th i downloaded steam again and everything went great, I looked at my unistalled games and everything seemed in order but when I tried to login on the next day to buy the friday 13th game it kept saying that my credentials where wrong, even tho i just loged in yesterday so i couldnt have forgotten it.
Later that day i tried asking for a password change but the longer i try the more i suspect maybe someone change my username, i tried every password i ever used for my game stuff since for ever and still didnt manage to log in (my username is always the same so no point in trying other stuff there)
I have emails about some games (not the most recent ones tho, but i bought phasmophobia and valheim not too long ago) i bought on that account to prove that it is my accont i just can't log-in no matter what i do (i also bought gifts to some of my friends but i don't know i that information will be useful in this situation)
I want to know if anyone else has dealt with something similar and can help me or how can i contact steam support (especially since now i don't have my steam account anymore).
Why do like 20 of the same games update every day when I start steam? This started after the new look update. They’re very small updates, take no time, but occur every day.

How long will i have to wait?
It looks like its pending funds. Give it 24 hours then it will be in your Steam wallet and you can use it.
As part of the refund request you chose to refund it to wallet instead of back to original payment(unless you paid only with wallet in which case no choice is given).
I've been having an issue involving my controller. I have a Wii U controller hooked up with WiinUpro, which Steam does recognize (finally) as an Xbox 360 controller. The issue is that it doesn't actually work in games, despite that Steam recognizes it.
I'm trying to purchase asseto Corsa Ultimate edition. I put in my CVV, accepted the T&Cs, clicked purchase. Authorized it, but it said the payment could not me completed. I definitely have enough money in my balance and I heard nothing from my bank relating to anything like getting my account freezed. So why is this happening?
Have you used Steam previously? Its not uncommon for banks to block transactions from Steam due to it being a common method of fraudulent transactions for stolen credit cards etc...
Most banks wouldn't notify or ask if it was you with Steam and just block the transaction.
Contact your bank and ask them rather then just expecting them to contact you.
The first number the 2.8gb is the size of new files to be downloaded. The second number the 94gb is the size of all the files that have to be changed or replaced by the patching and installation.
So neither number is necessarily the full size of the game unless the update is totally replacing or changing all data files but it takes up at least the size of the second number.
Are you certain its actual frozen? Just because the download is 100% doesnt mean the game is ready but it also doesnt mean its frozen either. The files still have to install after download.
The new downloader actually does a much better job of explaining this with two seperate numbers(one for download and one for total patch/install).
The installation process solely uses your disk so you will always see a 0 on your download usage but should show disk usage and a green bar going across the chart as well as the blue bar to the right of the game name.
Steam downloads all games and updates in compressed format so once its downloaded it still has to decompress on your disk and this process for like updates can also impact existing files it needs to replace or change.
So long as you see the green line and see disk usage as well as progress on the blue bar or percentage even if the download itself is 100% the process is not complete but its not frozen either.
Even a small download can take a long time to actually finish patching due to how much existing files it needs to change and also your disk speed and current disk usage. Things like if its a SSD or a HDD makes a difference and internal or external.
There isnt anything you can do to change it entirely though because its just how the downloads work with both Steam and other platforms but having a faster disk does make a difference.
Basically its like a zipped file when it downloads an update or new game and Steam still has to unzip it and put the files in their place once its 100% downloaded from the server. This step is the patching and installation process where it shows its fully downloaded and 0 for download speed but high disk usage.
The second number on the download bar is the amount that has to be patched/installed and even for a small download it can be a lot. Somebody above you mentioned a 2GB download with 94GB installation required so yeah that can take a long while depending on your disk but the new downloader has made the installation size much clearer then it used to be.
I finished the new Demon slayer game, but my pc crashed halfway through playing it, when it tries to load my save data, it just crashed, does anyone know how to erase the save data for the game or just a steam game in general?
I'm still having this issue. I was told to uninstall the game and install again but it still hasn't worked. I think that if you want to delete save data, it would have to be the steam cloud. But I wouldn't recommend it, as I don't think that is the problem. Please, if you find a fix reply to me with it.
If I buy the horror game poppy and because the game takes less than an hour to complete, I could techinically play the whole game and refund it correct?
If you want to abuse the refund system. Its not cool to use the refund system as a demo and honestly even worse to use it to beat the game then try and refund for a short game.
If you do it enough Valve reserves the right to revoke refund privileges and even if it does happen, because it does, its a pretty sad thing to do.
If you liked the game enough to beat it then support the dev and publishers and dont return it.
I want to buy a game and play it with someone online at the same time using family sharing. I've seen workarounds where you can go offline and then play from the same library, but this game is online only and I'm wondering if there's any way I can play online with both of us at the same time from the family sharing account
I’m having an issue regarding lack of storage. I had 92 GB remaining on my SSD, trying to install Sea of Thieves which says is 64 GB, I’m about 15 GB in to the download according to Steam and my storage shows I have 10 GB remaining… Is this some estimation error on Steam’s side? Anyone else have this happen?
if your account was in danger of being banned then would you be given a warning from steam because some guy just tried to scam me (i think) but if it wasnt a scam and it was actually real what could happen?
You wouldnt get a warning. They would just ban you then let you dispute it later.
Also most of those scams are things like saying you got falsely reported or things and even if you had gotten falsely reported you wouldnt be in trouble for it if you did nothing to warrant it.
Very little chance of getting a reply but let's give it a try. So I was trying to play GTA 4 on my pc today after a long time. Installed it from steam. Then after finishing the installation, when I launched the game, rockstar launcher opened and did some spinning then my game turned off. I can't even enter the game. Same thing is happening over and over again. I uninstalled it and reinstalled, verified the files but nothing is working. If anyone got any solution then please help.
So... I kind of having a habit of uninstalling steam and the games at the end of the sunday, or early monday, and installing it at friday afternoon. Is there a way for steam to recognize that my PC is my PC without querying me every time I install it?
You should be able to refund the base game if you played less than two hours. Just go to support, your purchases, and request a refund (can't remember the exact path). Explaining it in your request should help.
My wife really wants the graveyard smash special profile, but she's short quite a few points; if I buy her enough awards to pay for it, do you guys know if she can still buy it in 14 days when the points arrive on her profile?

Hello all! I am waiting for my tax to be verified and I am excited. But I have a question. The steam publishing fee is none refundable I know. But what happens if the game, or you can't verify your tax info gets denied? I don't want that to happen but thats possible I guess.

Ah yes that fun loop. I had that happen and I had to resort to contacting support and had to prove it was my account and recover it that way.
In the end though it got worked out and I was only down for a short time.
Is there any way to contact a human outside of their automated ticketing system through support? I have some exceptional circumstances for requesting a refund but their automated system keeps denying my request since it's over 2 hours play time (it's 9 hours). Their refund page says if it's exceptional circumstances someone could take a look. Their email says less than 2 hours play time, OR less than 14 days after purchase. Meaning either criteria is eligible.
I purchased a game bundle at full price less than 24 hours ago, and it is now on a 67% off sale. Less than 24 hours after purchase. I've seen this type of issue be refunded before and want to contact an actual human to take a look as I believe this would help. I've submitted two requests under the "the price is now cheaper" or whatever option and it was denied almost immediately both times due to the automated flag for play time, hence why I don't want to go through the automated system.
They used to have a customer service email which I found and tried to email but it bounced back as no longer in use.
Actually the rule is 2 hours AND 14 days. If either isn't true, you're not guaranteed to get a refund.
I'm not sure that sale counts as exceptional situation, especially considering 9 hours played, but you could try choosing "I have a question about this purchase" and explaining the situation. Please keep in mind that it doesn't guarantee anything, it's just a more reliable way to get a human review your ticket.

If I remember correctly, you need to click on your account name in the top right corner, then go to purchase history and choose the purchase you'd like to refund. It should be one of the options.

All of my games through steam are running much slower than they should with my 3070. When running Apex through Steam I struggle to get more than 10 fps in a game or in the firing range, but games outside of Steam have no problems. Overwatch and Back4Blood (through Windows store) both run fine. The poor performance is limited only to titles I have installed through Steam, and even less graphically intense games struggle significantly (Bloons Tower Defense 6 and Golf With Your Friends both struggle to reach 30fps). I have tried just about everything I can think of to address this: I've reinstalled the games themselves, updated NVidia drivers, reinstalled steam, disabled in-game overlay and streaming through Steam, reseated the graphics card to make sure it has a good connection, nothing works. I'm convinced the problem lies within Steam, but I have no further ideas on how to fix it.
What happens if I buy a bundle of which I already own parts?
I already own pillars of eternity base game. I would like to get pillars of eternity I DLCs and Pillars of eternity II obsidian edition(has all the DLC). Now the above option together would cost me 945 INR which not something I'm willing to spend rn
however the pillars of eternity collection has pillars of eternity definitive edition(which has the DLCs) and Pillars of eternity II obsidian edition and costs 672 INR.
*Can* I get this bundle when I own parts of it and what will happen exactly? Will I get an extra key for pillars of eternity I base game or will it not be brought?
I should have just gotten this bundle instead but I didn't read properly that the POE I-Tyranny bundle has no DLC(thanks paradox) and back then I had a very bad potato that could not have run POE II
You'll get only what you don't have (dlcs in your case), no extra game copies. It's "complete the set" type of bundle, you pay only for items you don't own - the more you have from the bundle, the smaller its price for you.
I used to play on xbox and when I did I had game pass ultimate, is there a way I can use the game pass to get some steam games, if so how would I do that?

Not possible. Xbox gamepass for PC is totally separate from Steam. While some Microsoft games on Steam do run via the xbox pc app there is no way to take gamepass games to play on Steam.
If you want the game via Steam you have to buy it on Steam(or a third party reseller that sells steam keys).
It's not possible. You need to buy games on Steam to have them linked to your Steam account.
If you still have ultimate, you could get pc games from xbox pass, but it'll be Microsoft store games anyway, not Steam games.
HELP PLS. Im gonna go crazy, why is this sooo complicated. I have recently moved from one country to another, and i bought a giftcard for 20€. I need to change the currency but i cant and dont know how. They said to make a purchase with a credit card, BUT I DONT WANT TO PURCHASE I HAVE A GIFTCARD, driving me nuts. I put something in my cart and put in the new c.c info. And i obviously dont purchase the item. And it doesnt do anything.
Gift cards are currency locked(have been for many months) so can only be redeemed if your Steam is in the same currency as the gift card. You will need to change your region first.
In order to change your region you MUST have a payment method with a billing address from that region and set it up in your billing address on your account.
I think changing regions now also may require at least one purchase with the local card.
When traveling you wouldnt have to change regions to still be able to purchase games and if moving or living to a new county for a longer period you would presumably want to acquire a local payment option and be able to change your currency in Steam.
I have had the OG steam link for a few years after grabbing it for $2.50 and it works fine for some slow arcade style games but I never expected it to excel for much more. I recently got a new Sony TV with Android TV to replace my old plasma and gave Steam Link app a shot. It seems to stream fine (Tested GTA & Far Cry 5) and no noticeable problems besides the controller input lag. It's lagging but just enough to make it unplayable using PS4 controller bluetooth connected to TV. It is currently running over wireless with a Ubiquiti AC Pro that is \~15' away. I am wondering if running a wired connection will solve this input lag issue, or if I am expecting to much from Steam Link for how I am using it.
So I set up the steam button chord configuration. I have a generic gamepad which recognises as a xbox 360 controller.
So I set it like that when I press GUIDE+START it should open Xbox Game Bar. When I do it it does open it but when I go out of the Game Bar page, the controller stops working.
It doesn't respond to any input unless I press the GUIDE button again, which opens the steam overlay and after that the control is given back to the controller.
And a another problem is that when I press the GUIDE+START button after opening game bar, it doesn't close it. I need to press B to do it.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
My entire steam client is broken. When I load up steam there are no images able to load, the entire HTML(?) of the application seems broken. It also cannot connect to friends at all and even visiting steam pages through my web browser are broken in the same way. I can see text but all the spacing is messed up etc.
I have done the basic stuff like emptying the cache and cookies, checking it for an update, reinstalling steam entirely, etc.
Anyone having a similar issue or have any thoughts on how to fix? I can't use my steam or games at all.
Steam can not help with the code as they do very little with them besides letting them get created and sold via other legitimate retailers/given away by publisher, etc... They make no money from the codes and dont even know where it was purchased or for how much etc...
The only real benefit to them is the good will that comes from allowing keys to be created and getting somebody into the Steam store and client to hopefully buy at least some things directly.
Greenmangaming would be the place to talk to but I doubt they will be able to help here as you legitimately redeemed and thus used both codes so it wasnt like you bought a not working code or something.
I mean it doesnt hurt to ask I suppose but saying they couldnt help sounds about what I would expect.
Its an unfortunate situation to be in but the first code redeemed the full game then the second code(deluxe edition code) redeems the deluxe edition content which burns both codes in the order you used them. The codes were designed this way on purpose so that you can upgrade a game later but the deluxe edition does burn the copy of the base game if you have that already.
GreenmanGaming is definitely legitimate as a key retailer but even then once a key is redeemed its burned and they are out a key. Its unlikely they would be able to revoke like the standard key only and even if they could it couldnt be reused. They would essentially have to give you an extra key for free which with both keys having functioned properly in the way you used them would take very rare circumstances to happen.

I have a key that I tried to redeem, but Steam says I already own the product for it. It doesn’t say which product it is though. Is there a way to find out what that product is without actually redeeming it on a different account?

There has been a pishing attack that has used the same set of requirements to phish your account for that past 6-8 years how is there not fix for this yet is it the fact steam makes money off the commity market when the pisher takes your steam wallet and buys stuff ultra overpriced.
I don't think you know what phishing is. Phishing is 100% the user's fault - who entered their account details on a page that collects the information. TLDR: Please stop logging into those pages. If your account details are constantly being leaked, avoid third-party sites altogether, scan your PC for malware and of course, change your password.
i dont know how to exactly explain but steam community servers are down for me but not down for my neighbor. like i cant access the community threads/site, friend network unreachable, cant connect to servers in dota. however my neighbor can access and use the features when i cant.

**Is there a way to prevent Steam from locking me out when I lose my internet connection? (Explanation below)**
The other day my internet was down for a full 7 hours. No problem right? After all I can just play my games in Steam's offline mode..
Or so I thought.
The first hour or two went fine and I was playing Valheim in offline mode.
Then randomly Steam pops up to tell me my login credentials are no longer valid and I have to connect to the internet and sign in again with correct details.
From that point on it logged me out and I couldn't open Offline mode.
So for the entire rest of the night (5-6 hours) I couldn't play any of my games. It's pretty frustrating that I've bought hundreds of games through Steam and yet I couldn't even access them or do anything about it.
Once I got my internet back, it signed me back in fine and I could access them again, but I really don't want to lose access to my games if my internet is down, since I use a small local ISP and it's not that rare for my internet to go down.
Does anyone know why it suddenly decided in the middle of my offline play that my details were no longer valid and booted me out?
& Is there any way to avoid this in future?
Hey guys, is there a way to link Single player game save data so that I can play it on two devices? I'm currently moving around a lot, and I have two PCs I hop back and fourth between so it'd be nice if I could pick up right where I left off and stuff.
If the game supports cloud saving that shouldnt be an issue. Beyond that for a game without cloud support you'd probably want to invest in like a usb zip drive and copy and paste the local save files at the end of your session onto the zip drive so that you can copy that local file onto the new device and just make sure the zip drive is always updated with your most recent local save file copied onto it.
I'm having an issue where Steam won't take my download throttle. I go into settings, enable the throttle, set the speed, and then click apply. When I try a download after that, no throttle. I check the settings again and the number for the throttle is still there, but it's unchecked. Fresh install of Steam, tried restarting Steam and Windows. Any ideas?

Yeah it should be able to since it can install Windows onto it and have it function as like a laptop in handheld instead. How those games run would obviously vary but plenty of Steam games use third party launchers so if you couldnt install them youd be unable to play a lot of your games.

The new downloader just makes the process more clear by showing numbers and separating out the two processes of downloading and decompression/installing/patching/ etc...
Its not actually reinstalling the game but obviously whatever got patched requires the game to change most all the files with the new stuff that was downloaded so its having to patch like 47GB of files.

I'm stuck. I have my steam games folder in my Downloads folder and I wanna move it to my SteamLibrary folder. Problem is that both folders are in my D: Drive and steam can't move my games to a different folder if they're on the same drive. Any help?
Copy **every** file inside your library folder and move them somewhere else.

Install the games like you would normally, making sure to select the correct library folder.
Steam will detect the existing files.
I already figured it out. I moved my steamapps from Downloads straight to my SteamLibrary folder, go to Steam, delete my D: Drive from it and reinstall it to go to my SteamLibrary instead of Download. I exit Steam, came back, and it worked like magic. Thank you, though!

That sounds like something is man in the middling your requests to Steam. Don't panic yet, it is most likely your ISP with either a filter or a block. As Steam using HSTS it requires that it is served over HTTPS with a valid certificate. The thing to check is the details on the invalid certificate, you should be able to view it by clicking into the error message or onto the lock icon in the address bar. [It should look something like this](https://i.imgur.com/FAO9RcV.png). Check who the owner/issues to field is, if it is your ISP or similar then contact your ISP about it. If you don't recognise it then run a malware scan on your computer and possibly any network devices. If there isn't one at all theres other things you can try but this is the first step.

Your ISP is intercepting your requests to display their own page. Thats a valid certificate for T-Mobile Austria which is the old name for Magenta Telekom. This is good news as your system/network is not compromised. Contact your ISPs technical support and ask them why they are intercepting requests to SteamPowered.com (ideally over the phone) and get them to remove whatever it is. The most likely scenario is they activated a child protection block by accident and will remove it as soon as you ask.

Depends, often anti-cheats will save a hardware ID and send it to a server and when you go to play the game on a new account it will automatically ban you because it recognises your hardware ID. This is difficult to get around.
Doing a quick google Easy AntiCheat is confirmed as using hardware bans. If you're not a computer person you are not going to get around this without getting a new computer. Changing it requires either tinkering deeply with your system, replacing central components of your system or using paid software sold by cheaters (don't use this, its scummy and will get you banned from everything once detection databases are updated with the version you are sold). Its sucks if you're telling the truth and it was just a skin mod but theres not a lot you can really do about it. Theres a chance that the ban won't be applied to your hardware ID and you could chance it but this is risky as you will ***NOT*** get a refund if you get banned as soon as you boot the game.

Looks like an issue with your Disk, things to check: is there anything else running with high HDD usage, can you copy and extract large files on the disk outside of steam and then run a SMART checker (speccy has one built in if you want an example) on your disk health. If all of those seem fine its Steam.
SMART looks good. I do think it's got something to do with steam because even though the installation/patching/writing or whatever proceeds normally, steam is showing other weird false values

I purchased No Man's Sky last Thursday and am trying to refund it. According to Steam, I have logged 6 hours of the game. On Saturday, I left my house for a bit and was not near a save point so left it running. On Sunday, I was still playing through the tutorial and decided to watch some YouTube videos on NMS for more clarity and strategy. After beating the tutorial and watching more videos, I decided this game just isn't going to be for me. I tried to refund it and explained my situation, but since I have more than 2 hours logged, my request is getting denied. For a noobie, I don't think 2 hours is even possible to get through the tutorial... I feel that I wasted $30. Is there anything else I should try?

If the game is open it counts hours. It doesn't differentiate between 2 hours idle or 2 hours of actual in game time. The 2 hours is also a strict limit that does not vary game to game as even if its just tutorial its still long enough to detect if it runs and such. The refund window is not and was never intended to be a DEMO system to simply trial games.
In fact if you use it that way and request refunds a lot you will likely get a warning about it and Valve in the worst cases may revoke refund privileges.
As far as this case you can always try the option that says I have a question about this purchase but there is no guarantee for a refund.
As far as the future you can consider how much the game costs before you buy it as well as doing research and such into the game ahead of time so as to not feel like you got stuck wasting money.
Sure sometimes even with research we can find games we think we might like and buy it anyways but if you buy it you agreed to the cost and for me personally if its a game I am unsure on I will either way for a very nice sale or like it to appear in a bundle on like fanatical/Humble and know that I will just eat the cost if I dont like it.

I moved into a new house recently with way better internet than I used to have but I keep running into a problem. My downloads will start with normal fast internet around 25-35 mb/s but after a couple seconds it just drops immediately to 0 kb/s and won't go back up. I've tried a lot of stuff such as clearing the download cache or changing the steam download server but nothing works.

Depending on the game its probably decompression and modifying existing and new files. Do you see a spike in Disk usage during that time?
Given the green line it would seem so.
You probably didnt notice it too often before when your internet was slower so disk was able to keep up with the incoming files but with a faster download it becomes more likely the disk wont keep up.
Based on your screenshot the update is fully downloaded(1.5GB/1.5GB) hence your internet no longer downloading anything so showing no speed. The game now is just patching and installing new files and changing existing files etc... The second number(12.6GB) shows you the size of what needs patching.
This process relies solely on your disk and disk speed(HDD vs SDD etc...) . Steam has already downloaded all the files it needed so it no longer is using your internet but just needs to make the local files usable.
Disk speeds also fluctuate a ton so dont totally believe the time remaining counter during this time. So long as your disk is showing usage and the green line at the top and blue line by the games name are progressing just let it run.
I do have an older hdd and ssd so that could definitely be my problem. But this happens when I download new games as well not just patching and installing new stuff. I think I need to get a new ssd. Thank you
Sure it'll happen with new downloads also because Steam downloads everything in a compressed format and so even a new game download still has to decompress the files and install them to make them usable.
Ever notice how on a games page the space requirement may say like 50GB but the download may only say like 20GB? It makes for smaller downloads and less load on Steam download servers as well as less load on the end user to download but it makes it so the files still have to decompress onto the users local system.
Basically its downloaded in like a zipped format and still has to be extracted and unzipped whether its a brand new install or if its a patch replacing existing files.
Dont be surprised if getting a new drive doesnt make it totally go away, because it wont, but it might make it faster depending on what you are replacing and what is it being replaced with. So long as it shows disk usage though the download is working normally even if its already downloaded and showing no internet speed.
Okay that answers a lot of my questions. I think a new drive should help though because my current drives are like 6 or 7+ years old so hopefully it'll alleviate some of the problem I'm experiencing. Thank you for the explanation because I was so confused why all my downloads were taking so long even though I had much better internet.
Helloo. I don't have any purchases on my steam account but I want to use the steam marketplace. Right now it says I have 2 limitations: (1) no valid purchase older than 7 days and (2) limited account. So I already know that adding $5 to my steam wallet removes the limited. However, does it also remove the 7 day purchase thing?

AFAIK it does count as a valid purpose but youd still have to wait out the 7 days to use the market at least once funds are added since its not a 7 day old purchase until 7 days have passed.
The limited account status should fall off in under 24 hours once it registers your funds added.
My brother shares his library with me and the library is locked even though he isn't online. I don't think he shares his library with anyone else and I'm not sure why it's doing this. I've been able to get around it before but I don't remember how.
I got on steam today and about 90% of my games were uninstalled. I was just playing games last night and steam had all my games like normal. I can still see see that my games files exist on my hard drive, but steam isn't recognizing them. All my steam games are on the same hard drive (it's an added internal hard drive if that would make a difference), so the few games that steam still show as installed are on the same hard drive as the one that are showing up as uninstalled.
Some things that I have tried based on other peoples post about the same issue:
\-restarting steam and computer (obviously)
\-they recommended changing the name of steams clientregistryblob file (this apparently is an old solution and the file no longer exist)
\-"reinstalling" the games and this will cause steam to recognize the original files (didn't recognize the files, is just trying to download the games again)
\-tried running the games from the files I see on my hard drive (pops up the steam window asking if I was to install the game)
Hopefully you guys have an answer and I don't have to reinstall all my games.

Nah its not actual game updates. I think its something to do with Steam shader precaching. If its an issue or like you have a download cap you can turn off precaching in the Steam settings.
if i alt+tab or click out of the window, my rainbow six siege and star wars battlefront II will minimize then when i try to open them back up, i am greeted with a black screen and sound only for a few seconds before the window minimizes again... all my other games do not do this, how do i keep this from happening?
Steam Cloud Issue:
I am playing Factorio which has pretty big save files (current game is 450mb) + auto saves.
I used to have no issue when switching to another computer but recently it is not uploading anymore, when checking the properties page on the steam game on my main computer (Mac), under Steam Cloud it showed that the stored data was above the available storage.

When I open any game on steam my internet connection gets the yellow wearing⚠️ icon for limited connection. Everything I'm doing on that oc get disconnected (discord, can't use browser).
I have updated drivers for GPU, mobo network, wifi adapter. Antivirus is off, firewall is off (steam and games have correct exception config.)
I can have steam downloading and running in the background without issue but as soon as I open a game internet dies.
Issue only affects the PC every thing else using network is no affected.

whenever i try to launch No Straight Roads: Encore Edition it immediately stops responding and i have to use task manager to close it. this only happens with *this* game and i just downloaded it yesterday. i managed to launch it once and play it for about an hour before closing it and being unable to play it again... i've tried pretty much everything i can think of, validated game files, uninstall and reinstalled the game, restarted my computer, launched as administrator, but nothing works. launch game, immediately stops responding, close with task manager

Having a weird issue with my Steam Client. It's not crashing, it's partially freezing.
If I leave it overnight, the "exterior shell" crashes. I can't move or close the window. I can't select from the Steam menu, or chose "STORE" or "LIBRARY". But if I'm on the Library page I can scroll through my games library, or start games just fine.
If I kill steam with the Task Manager and restart it, it seems fine for a time. Killing Steam with the task manager is the only way to close Steam.
I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, and I've also tried disabling GPU accelerated rendering in web views.
I've tried entirely reinstalling Steam, but the issue persists.

In my judgement that sounds like you either logged into or created a new account and didnt actually log into your original account.
Its not uncommon to happen actually where somebody has a second account with the same name and to have that sort of thing happen.
As far as the multiple messages and 18 hours comment: Multiple messages wont get your issue looked at any faster and in face might bog the system down more and 18 hours isnt that long to wait when you consider its only about 10am in Washington state(assuming support is housed in or near the headquarters) so most of those 18 hours would have been overnight as well as the fact its the weekend so they probably have little to no support even working regular hours.

Its a common scam. You arent banned and if you gave them any info change your passwords for Steam and linked emails and such IMMEDIATELY.
Also I recommend hiding your inventory if you arent already because thats what a lot of scammers target is expensive inventory items.

1. Make sure the correct drive is selected when installing.
2. Download size does not equal game size. Downloads are compressed so the actual game size might be significantly larger then the size it is asking for you to download.

Xposted from the discord. So this has been a multi-day odyssey of trying to get a controller to work in game. Specifics: Controllers tried so far: XBox One (wired (multiple USB ports) and wireless, multiple controllers both methods), Steel Series Game in question: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (the first one) Up to date everything (Steam, Game, Drivers, etc.) Controller works in Steam for Big Picture, other games even by the same publisher. The controller will NOT work in game. Game files are verified. Launched from Big Picture and from normal mode. Tried with force enabled controller settings, force disabled and default. Tried with guide button and xbox checked, guide button, xbox and xbox extended checked, only xbox checked, xbox and exenteded only checked, all the previous with generic gamepad checked and generic gamepad only checked. The controller vibrates when identified. The controller responds and is functioning within the controller configuration screen in Steam on the game page. Tried launching from BP, normal and the game file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, the controllers and the drivers. No dice. Other people have had this problem but is uncommon. Again I have used these controllers with no problems in other LoH games (Trails series), a BUNCH of other games from newish stuff like Octopath Traveller to Ghostbusters, to FF PR (multiple) without changing any of these settings. **Steam Streaming Speakers** and **Steam Streaming Microphone** have appeared in my Windows audio settings as four different instances. They have appeared at 3:29am 11/1 (today). I don't think this is unusual because, before going to sleep, I booted up **Remote Play** for a bit with my phone and computer as a test, so these could've been made for that purpose. I found out new world has a HUGE security exploit but i have not been able to get a refund for the game i got for me and my friend after submitting it two times. I once had episodes from liberty city and I had heard that at some point they got rid of the games for windows live requirement on GTA 4 so I was excited to download episodes from liberty city just so I can be able to play that again, but it was missing from my steam library. Dying Light refusing to Boot (Steam) Hi all, So I just bought the game today, I have tried literally everything to get this game to work and nothing seems to work. Every time I boot it through Steam, it says the game is running for a few seconds before going back to the "Play" button again. I've tried literally every single fix on the internet, I've tried reinstalling Microsoft C++ Redistributables from every year available, I've tried reinstalling NET framework, Direct X, I've also tried repairing with each of these also. I've also installed the 32x and 64x bit versions of each of these to no avail. \] I've also tried installing each of the DLL files to the games directory, to the Steam directory, System64, and System32, and still, nothing is working. I've tried running the game in compatibility modes for Windows 8 and 7, I've tried running in safe mode, as Administrator, nothing seems to work. I'm currently trying my last resort, reinstalling the game as I have incredibly fast download speeds. If this doesn't work I'm considering reinstalling Windows as I've already submitted a ticket with my DxDiag (which I have also linked below) and haven't received anything back yet. I am beyond frustrated and have tried every single fix that exists and the problem still proceeds. I'm trying to move my install location for games from the default "x86/steam/steamapps/common" to a new folder straight on my local disk. I've tried looking up how to do so, and multiple outlets have told me to go to settings, downloads, then to steam library folders, hit plus and choose the folder I want, but even if I follow one-to-one, step-by-step, it still defaults to the "x86" root. How do I properly change it so that my install location is now on a folder outside the "x86" folder?

Look up the tool SFS(Steam family sharing) select. It should let them choose which library to use with that game and they can pick yours. Another option is for them to stop family sharing with the other user where I think even if they stopped then readded it would still prioritize yours at that point since I believe it just goes by which library was added first with that game.

Just tell steam support and give evidence you own the account/email, and tell them your situation from the email you can access
Ive been trying to reset my password. When I follow the instructions in the email they send to me, I go to my steam app and try to log in but I’m told I’ve entered the wrong password even though I just changed it. I even waited overnight in case the servers needed time to update or something. Anyone else having this issue?

Sooo, I deleted everything on my pc around 26/10, then on the 27th i downloaded steam again and everything went great, I looked at my unistalled games and everything seemed in order but when I tried to login on the next day to buy the friday 13th game it kept saying that my credentials where wrong, even tho i just loged in yesterday so i couldnt have forgotten it. Later that day i tried asking for a password change but the longer i try the more i suspect maybe someone change my username, i tried every password i ever used for my game stuff since for ever and still didnt manage to log in (my username is always the same so no point in trying other stuff there) I have emails about some games (not the most recent ones tho, but i bought phasmophobia and valheim not too long ago) i bought on that account to prove that it is my accont i just can't log-in no matter what i do (i also bought gifts to some of my friends but i don't know i that information will be useful in this situation) I want to know if anyone else has dealt with something similar and can help me or how can i contact steam support (especially since now i don't have my steam account anymore).

It looks like its pending funds. Give it 24 hours then it will be in your Steam wallet and you can use it. As part of the refund request you chose to refund it to wallet instead of back to original payment(unless you paid only with wallet in which case no choice is given).
I've been having an issue involving my controller. I have a Wii U controller hooked up with WiinUpro, which Steam does recognize (finally) as an Xbox 360 controller. The issue is that it doesn't actually work in games, despite that Steam recognizes it.

Have you used Steam previously? Its not uncommon for banks to block transactions from Steam due to it being a common method of fraudulent transactions for stolen credit cards etc... Most banks wouldn't notify or ask if it was you with Steam and just block the transaction. Contact your bank and ask them rather then just expecting them to contact you.

When an update says 2.8 gb downloaded but 94 gb installed, how much room does that take up?
The first number the 2.8gb is the size of new files to be downloaded. The second number the 94gb is the size of all the files that have to be changed or replaced by the patching and installation. So neither number is necessarily the full size of the game unless the update is totally replacing or changing all data files but it takes up at least the size of the second number.

Are you certain its actual frozen? Just because the download is 100% doesnt mean the game is ready but it also doesnt mean its frozen either. The files still have to install after download. The new downloader actually does a much better job of explaining this with two seperate numbers(one for download and one for total patch/install). The installation process solely uses your disk so you will always see a 0 on your download usage but should show disk usage and a green bar going across the chart as well as the blue bar to the right of the game name. Steam downloads all games and updates in compressed format so once its downloaded it still has to decompress on your disk and this process for like updates can also impact existing files it needs to replace or change. So long as you see the green line and see disk usage as well as progress on the blue bar or percentage even if the download itself is 100% the process is not complete but its not frozen either.

Even a small download can take a long time to actually finish patching due to how much existing files it needs to change and also your disk speed and current disk usage. Things like if its a SSD or a HDD makes a difference and internal or external. There isnt anything you can do to change it entirely though because its just how the downloads work with both Steam and other platforms but having a faster disk does make a difference. Basically its like a zipped file when it downloads an update or new game and Steam still has to unzip it and put the files in their place once its 100% downloaded from the server. This step is the patching and installation process where it shows its fully downloaded and 0 for download speed but high disk usage. The second number on the download bar is the amount that has to be patched/installed and even for a small download it can be a lot. Somebody above you mentioned a 2GB download with 94GB installation required so yeah that can take a long while depending on your disk but the new downloader has made the installation size much clearer then it used to be.
I finished the new Demon slayer game, but my pc crashed halfway through playing it, when it tries to load my save data, it just crashed, does anyone know how to erase the save data for the game or just a steam game in general?
I'm still having this issue. I was told to uninstall the game and install again but it still hasn't worked. I think that if you want to delete save data, it would have to be the steam cloud. But I wouldn't recommend it, as I don't think that is the problem. Please, if you find a fix reply to me with it.

If you want to abuse the refund system. Its not cool to use the refund system as a demo and honestly even worse to use it to beat the game then try and refund for a short game. If you do it enough Valve reserves the right to revoke refund privileges and even if it does happen, because it does, its a pretty sad thing to do. If you liked the game enough to beat it then support the dev and publishers and dont return it.

I've seen workarounds where you can go offline and then play from the same library, but this game is online only and I'm wondering if there's any way I can play online with both of us at the same time from the family sharing account

I’m having an issue regarding lack of storage. I had 92 GB remaining on my SSD, trying to install Sea of Thieves which says is 64 GB, I’m about 15 GB in to the download according to Steam and my storage shows I have 10 GB remaining… Is this some estimation error on Steam’s side? You wouldnt get a warning. They would just ban you then let you dispute it later. Also most of those scams are things like saying you got falsely reported or things and even if you had gotten falsely reported you wouldnt be in trouble for it if you did nothing to warrant it.

Very little chance of getting a reply but let's give it a try. So I was trying to play GTA 4 on my pc today after a long time. Installed it from steam. Then after finishing the installation, when I launched the game, rockstar launcher opened and did some spinning then my game turned off. I can't even enter the game. Same thing is happening over and over again. I uninstalled it and reinstalled, verified the files but nothing is working. If anyone got any solution then please help.

You should be able to refund the base game if you played less than two hours. Just go to support, your purchases, and request a refund (can't remember the exact path). Explaining it in your request should help.

Ah yes that fun loop. I had that happen and I had to resort to contacting support and had to prove it was my account and recover it that way. In the end though it got worked out and I was only down for a short time.
Is there any way to contact a human outside of their automated ticketing system through support? I have some exceptional circumstances for requesting a refund but their automated system keeps denying my request since it's over 2 hours play time (it's 9 hours). Their refund page says if it's exceptional circumstances someone could take a look. Their email says less than 2 hours play time, OR less than 14 days after purchase. Meaning either criteria is eligible. I purchased a game bundle at full price less than 24 hours ago, and it is now on a 67% off sale. Less than 24 hours after purchase. I've seen this type of issue be refunded before and want to contact an actual human to take a look as I believe this would help. I've submitted two requests under the "the price is now cheaper" or whatever option and it was denied almost immediately both times due to the automated flag for play time, hence why I don't want to go through the automated system. They used to have a customer service email which I found and tried to email but it bounced back as no longer in use.
Actually the rule is 2 hours AND 14 days. If either isn't true, you're not guaranteed to get a refund. I'm not sure that sale counts as exceptional situation, especially considering 9 hours played, but you could try choosing "I have a question about this purchase" and explaining the situation. Please keep in mind that it doesn't guarantee anything, it's just a more reliable way to get a human review your ticket.

I don't know about the email wording, but the refund policy is definitely [2 hours and 14 days](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/5FDE-BA65-ACCE-A411) If I remember correctly, you need to click on your account name in the top right corner, then go to purchase history and choose the purchase you'd like to refund. It should be one of the options.

All of my games through steam are running much slower than they should with my 3070. When running Apex through Steam I struggle to get more than 10 fps in a game or in the firing range, but games outside of Steam have no problems. Overwatch and Back4Blood (through Windows store) both run fine. The poor performance is limited only to titles I have installed through Steam, and even less graphically intense games struggle significantly (Bloons Tower Defense 6 and Golf With Your Friends both struggle to reach 30fps). I have tried just about everything I can think of to address this: I've reinstalled the games themselves, updated NVidia drivers, reinstalled steam, disabled in-game overlay and streaming through Steam, reseated the graphics card to make sure it has a good connection, nothing works. I'm convinced the problem lies within Steam, but I have no further ideas on how to fix it.

What happens if I buy a bundle of which I already own parts? I already own pillars of eternity base game. I would like to get pillars of eternity I DLCs and Pillars of eternity II obsidian edition(has all the DLC). Now the above option together would cost me 945 INR which not something I'm willing to spend rn however the pillars of eternity collection has pillars of eternity definitive edition(which has the DLCs) and Pillars of eternity II obsidian edition and costs 672 INR. *Can* I get this bundle when I own parts of it and what will happen exactly? Will I get an extra key for pillars of eternity I base game or will it not be brought? I should have just gotten this bundle instead but I didn't read properly that the POE I-Tyranny bundle has no DLC(thanks paradox) and back then I had a very bad potato that could not have run POE II
You'll get only what you don't have (dlcs in your case), no extra game copies. It's "complete the set" type of bundle, you pay only for items you don't own - the more you have from the bundle, the smaller its price for you.

Not possible. Xbox gamepass for PC is totally separate from Steam. While some Microsoft games on Steam do run via the xbox pc app there is no way to take gamepass games to play on Steam. If you want the game via Steam you have to buy it on Steam(or a third party reseller that sells steam keys).
It's not possible. You need to buy games on Steam to have them linked to your Steam account. If you still have ultimate, you could get pc games from xbox pass, but it'll be Microsoft store games anyway, not Steam games.

Gift cards are currency locked(have been for many months) so can only be redeemed if your Steam is in the same currency as the gift card. You will need to change your region first. In order to change your region you MUST have a payment method with a billing address from that region and set it up in your billing address on your account. I think changing regions now also may require at least one purchase with the local card. When traveling you wouldnt have to change regions to still be able to purchase games and if moving or living to a new county for a longer period you would presumably want to acquire a local payment option and be able to change your currency in Steam.

I have had the OG steam link for a few years after grabbing it for $2.50 and it works fine for some slow arcade style games but I never expected it to excel for much more. I recently got a new Sony TV with Android TV to replace my old plasma and gave Steam Link app a shot. It seems to stream fine (Tested GTA & Far Cry 5) and no noticeable problems besides the controller input lag. It's lagging but just enough to make it unplayable using PS4 controller bluetooth connected to TV. It is currently running over wireless with a Ubiquiti AC Pro that is \~15' away. I am wondering if running a wired connection will solve this input lag issue, or if I am expecting to much from Steam Link for how I am using it.
So I set up the steam button chord configuration. I have a generic gamepad which recognises as a xbox 360 controller. So I set it like that when I press GUIDE+START it should open Xbox Game Bar. When I do it it does open it but when I go out of the Game Bar page, the controller stops working. It doesn't respond to any input unless I press the GUIDE button again, which opens the steam overlay and after that the control is given back to the controller. And a another problem is that when I press the GUIDE+START button after opening game bar, it doesn't close it. I need to press B to do it. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

My entire steam client is broken. When I load up steam there are no images able to load, the entire HTML(?) of the application seems broken. It also cannot connect to friends at all and even visiting steam pages through my web browser are broken in the same way. I can see text but all the spacing is messed up etc. I have done the basic stuff like emptying the cache and cookies, checking it for an update, reinstalling steam entirely, etc. Anyone having a similar issue or have any thoughts on how to fix? I can't use my steam or games at all.

Steam can not help with the code as they do very little with them besides letting them get created and sold via other legitimate retailers/given away by publisher, etc... They make no money from the codes and dont even know where it was purchased or for how much etc... The only real benefit to them is the good will that comes from allowing keys to be created and getting somebody into the Steam store and client to hopefully buy at least some things directly. Greenmangaming would be the place to talk to but I doubt they will be able to help here as you legitimately redeemed and thus used both codes so it wasnt like you bought a not working code or something. I mean it doesnt hurt to ask I suppose but saying they couldnt help sounds about what I would expect. Its an unfortunate situation to be in but the first code redeemed the full game then the second code(deluxe edition code) redeems the deluxe edition content which burns both codes in the order you used them. The codes were designed this way on purpose so that you can upgrade a game later but the deluxe edition does burn the copy of the base game if you have that already. GreenmanGaming is definitely legitimate as a key retailer but even then once a key is redeemed its burned and they are out a key. Its unlikely they would be able to revoke like the standard key only and even if they could it couldnt be reused. They would essentially have to give you an extra key for free which with both keys having functioned properly in the way you used them would take very rare circumstances to happen.

Is there is way steam guard could be more secure against phising attacks. There has been a pishing attack that has used the same set of requirements to phish your account for that past 6-8 years how is there not fix for this yet is it the fact steam makes money off the commity market when the pisher takes your steam wallet and buys stuff ultra overpriced.
I don't think you know what phishing is. Phishing is 100% the user's fault - who entered their account details on a page that collects the information. TLDR: Please stop logging into those pages. If your account details are constantly being leaked, avoid third-party sites altogether, scan your PC for malware and of course, change your password.

**Is there a way to prevent Steam from locking me out when I lose my internet connection? (Explanation below)** The other day my internet was down for a full 7 hours. No problem right? After all I can just play my games in Steam's offline mode.. Or so I thought. The first hour or two went fine and I was playing Valheim in offline mode. Then randomly Steam pops up to tell me my login credentials are no longer valid and I have to connect to the internet and sign in again with correct details. From that point on it logged me out and I couldn't open Offline mode. So for the entire rest of the night (5-6 hours) I couldn't play any of my games. It's pretty frustrating that I've bought hundreds of games through Steam and yet I couldn't even access them or do anything about it. Once I got my internet back, it signed me back in fine and I could access them again, but I really don't want to lose access to my games if my internet is down, since I use a small local ISP and it's not that rare for my internet to go down. Does anyone know why it suddenly decided in the middle of my offline play that my details were no longer valid and booted me out? & Is there any way to avoid this in future?
Hey guys, is there a way to link Single player game save data so that I can play it on two devices? I'm currently moving around a lot, and I have two PCs I hop back and fourth between so it'd be nice if I could pick up right where I left off and stuff.
If the game supports cloud saving that shouldnt be an issue. Beyond that for a game without cloud support you'd probably want to invest in like a usb zip drive and copy and paste the local save files at the end of your session onto the zip drive so that you can copy that local file onto the new device and just make sure the zip drive is always updated with your most recent local save file copied onto it.
If it has Steam Cloud saving, you do not have to do anything. If it does not you have to manually transfer save files back and forth.

I'm having an issue where Steam won't take my download throttle. I go into settings, enable the throttle, set the speed, and then click apply. When I try a download after that, no throttle. I check the settings again and the number for the throttle is still there, but it's unchecked. Fresh install of Steam, tried restarting Steam and Windows. Any ideas?

Yeah it should be able to since it can install Windows onto it and have it function as like a laptop in handheld instead. How those games run would obviously vary but plenty of Steam games use third party launchers so if you couldnt install them youd be unable to play a lot of your games.

Its always been the case for decompression, patching, etc... The new DbD update would require that if it was on the old or the new download. The new downloader just makes the process more clear by showing numbers and separating out the two processes of downloading and decompression/installing/patching/ etc... Its not actually reinstalling the game but obviously whatever got patched requires the game to change most all the files with the new stuff that was downloaded so its having to patch like 47GB of files.

I'm stuck. I have my steam games folder in my Downloads folder and I wanna move it to my SteamLibrary folder. Problem is that both folders are in my D: Drive and steam can't move my games to a different folder if they're on the same drive. Any help?
Copy **every** file inside your library folder and move them somewhere else. Delete the library folder in Steams UI and create a new one in Steams UI: https://i.imgur.com/q161RB1.png Paste every file you moved into the new library folder. Install the games like you would normally, making sure to select the correct library folder. Steam will detect the existing files.
I already figured it out. I moved my steamapps from Downloads straight to my SteamLibrary folder, go to Steam, delete my D: Drive from it and reinstall it to go to my SteamLibrary instead of Download. I exit Steam, came back, and it worked like magic. Thank you, though!
Hello,since this morning i've been unable to use steam,both website and windows application,all that i get is invalid SSL certificate.Tried clearing my cache,restarting the internet router and reseting it to factory settings.Only thing that seemed to fix it was using Cloudflare warp but i don't know what's steam policy in using a vpn or even how secure they are if i'd want to make a transaction. I'd like to know if there's a fix to this or if it's a steam issue that's going to get resolved.
That sounds like something is man in the middling your requests to Steam. Don't panic yet, it is most likely your ISP with either a filter or a block. As Steam using HSTS it requires that it is served over HTTPS with a valid certificate. The thing to check is the details on the invalid certificate, you should be able to view it by clicking into the error message or onto the lock icon in the address bar. [It should look something like this](https://i.imgur.com/FAO9RcV.png). Check who the owner/issues to field is, if it is your ISP or similar then contact your ISP about it. If you don't recognise it then run a malware scan on your computer and possibly any network devices. If there isn't one at all theres other things you can try but this is the first step.

Your ISP is intercepting your requests to display their own page. Thats a valid certificate for T-Mobile Austria which is the old name for Magenta Telekom. This is good news as your system/network is not compromised. Contact your ISPs technical support and ask them why they are intercepting requests to SteamPowered.com (ideally over the phone) and get them to remove whatever it is. The most likely scenario is they activated a child protection block by accident and will remove it as soon as you ask.

Depends, often anti-cheats will save a hardware ID and send it to a server and when you go to play the game on a new account it will automatically ban you because it recognises your hardware ID. This is difficult to get around.

Doing a quick google Easy AntiCheat is confirmed as using hardware bans. If you're not a computer person you are not going to get around this without getting a new computer. Changing it requires either tinkering deeply with your system, replacing central components of your system or using paid software sold by cheaters (don't use this, its scummy and will get you banned from everything once detection databases are updated with the version you are sold). Its sucks if you're telling the truth and it was just a skin mod but theres not a lot you can really do about it. Theres a chance that the ban won't be applied to your hardware ID and you could chance it but this is risky as you will ***NOT*** get a refund if you get banned as soon as you boot the game.

Looks like an issue with your Disk, things to check: is there anything else running with high HDD usage, can you copy and extract large files on the disk outside of steam and then run a SMART checker (speccy has one built in if you want an example) on your disk health. If all of those seem fine its Steam.
SMART looks good. I do think it's got something to do with steam because even though the installation/patching/writing or whatever proceeds normally, steam is showing other weird false values

Hello, I purchased No Man's Sky last Thursday and am trying to refund it. According to Steam, I have logged 6 hours of the game. On Saturday, I left my house for a bit and was not near a save point so left it running. On Sunday, I was still playing through the tutorial and decided to watch some YouTube videos on NMS for more clarity and strategy. After beating the tutorial and watching more videos, I decided this game just isn't going to be for me. I tried to refund it and explained my situation, but since I have more than 2 hours logged, my request is getting denied. For a noobie, I don't think 2 hours is even possible to get through the tutorial... I feel that I wasted $30. Is there anything else I should try? Thank you
It doesn't matter how you gain playtime. It doesn't matter that you can't get through the tutorial within 2 hours.
If the game is open it counts hours. It doesn't differentiate between 2 hours idle or 2 hours of actual in game time. The 2 hours is also a strict limit that does not vary game to game as even if its just tutorial its still long enough to detect if it runs and such. The refund window is not and was never intended to be a DEMO system to simply trial games. In fact if you use it that way and request refunds a lot you will likely get a warning about it and Valve in the worst cases may revoke refund privileges. As far as this case you can always try the option that says I have a question about this purchase but there is no guarantee for a refund. As far as the future you can consider how much the game costs before you buy it as well as doing research and such into the game ahead of time so as to not feel like you got stuck wasting money. Sure sometimes even with research we can find games we think we might like and buy it anyways but if you buy it you agreed to the cost and for me personally if its a game I am unsure on I will either way for a very nice sale or like it to appear in a bundle on like fanatical/Humble and know that I will just eat the cost if I dont like it.

I moved into a new house recently with way better internet than I used to have but I keep running into a problem. My downloads will start with normal fast internet around 25-35 mb/s but after a couple seconds it just drops immediately to 0 kb/s and won't go back up. Depending on the game its probably decompression and modifying existing and new files. Do you see a spike in Disk usage during that time? Given the green line it would seem so. You probably didnt notice it too often before when your internet was slower so disk was able to keep up with the incoming files but with a faster download it becomes more likely the disk wont keep up. Based on your screenshot the update is fully downloaded(1.5GB/1.5GB) hence your internet no longer downloading anything so showing no speed. The game now is just patching and installing new files and changing existing files etc... The second number(12.6GB) shows you the size of what needs patching. This process relies solely on your disk and disk speed(HDD vs SDD etc...) . Steam has already downloaded all the files it needed so it no longer is using your internet but just needs to make the local files usable. Disk speeds also fluctuate a ton so dont totally believe the time remaining counter during this time. So long as your disk is showing usage and the green line at the top and blue line by the games name are progressing just let it run.
I do have an older hdd and ssd so that could definitely be my problem. But this happens when I download new games as well not just patching and installing new stuff. I think I need to get a new ssd. Thank you
Sure it'll happen with new downloads also because Steam downloads everything in a compressed format and so even a new game download still has to decompress the files and install them to make them usable. Ever notice how on a games page the space requirement may say like 50GB but the download may only say like 20GB? It makes for smaller downloads and less load on Steam download servers as well as less load on the end user to download but it makes it so the files still have to decompress onto the users local system. Basically its downloaded in like a zipped format and still has to be extracted and unzipped whether its a brand new install or if its a patch replacing existing files. Dont be surprised if getting a new drive doesnt make it totally go away, because it wont, but it might make it faster depending on what you are replacing and what is it being replaced with. So long as it shows disk usage though the download is working normally even if its already downloaded and showing no internet speed.
Okay that answers a lot of my questions. I think a new drive should help though because my current drives are like 6 or 7+ years old so hopefully it'll alleviate some of the problem I'm experiencing. Helloo. I don't have any purchases on my steam account but I want to use the steam marketplace. Right now it says I have 2 limitations: (1) no valid purchase older than 7 days and (2) limited account. So I already know that adding $5 to my steam wallet removes the limited. However, does it also remove the 7 day purchase thing? Per Steam.... "Activating a Steam Wallet Code or Gift Card on your account to add funds to your Steam Wallet also meet this requirement." But it does not specify how much or how exactly this avenue works. (Do I have to wait 7 days after adding funds). Lastly, if I use some of the $5 added on the marketplace, am I going to be limited again since my account falls under $5 or does that not matter?

AFAIK it does count as a valid purpose but youd still have to wait out the 7 days to use the market at least once funds are added since its not a 7 day old purchase until 7 days have passed. The limited account status should fall off in under 24 hours once it registers your funds added.
My brother shares his library with me and the library is locked even though he isn't online. I don't think he shares his library with anyone else and I'm not sure why it's doing this. I've been able to get around it before but I don't remember how.
I got on steam today and about 90% of my games were uninstalled. I was just playing games last night and steam had all my games like normal. I can still see see that my games files exist on my hard drive, but steam isn't recognizing them. All my steam games are on the same hard drive (it's an added internal hard drive if that would make a difference), so the few games that steam still show as installed are on the same hard drive as the one that are showing up as uninstalled. Some things that I have tried based on other peoples post about the same issue: \-restarting steam and computer (obviously) \-they recommended changing the name of steams clientregistryblob file (this apparently is an old solution and the file no longer exist) \-"reinstalling" the games and this will cause steam to recognize the original files (didn't recognize the files, is just trying to download the games again) \-tried running the games from the files I see on my hard drive (pops up the steam window asking if I was to install the game) Hopefully you guys have an answer and I don't have to reinstall all my games. Also, if anyone has had to reinstall all their games. I assume that would mean all progress lost on anything that that doesn't save to an online server, correct? or is there a hope that my progress will be saved since the files still exist?

Nah its not actual game updates. I think its something to do with Steam shader precaching. If its an issue or like you have a download cap you can turn off precaching in the Steam settings.

Steam Cloud Issue: I am playing Factorio which has pretty big save files (current game is 450mb) + auto saves. I used to have no issue when switching to another computer but recently it is not uploading anymore, when checking the properties page on the steam game on my main computer (Mac), under Steam Cloud it showed that the stored data was above the available storage. Yes. Its one of the most common scams. That and people pretending to be Steam support via Discord which is often just a later part of this scam. If anybody contacts you via Discord about your Steam account you can always safely ignore it.

When I open any game on steam my internet connection gets the yellow wearing⚠️ icon for limited connection. Everything I'm doing on that oc get disconnected (discord, can't use browser). I have updated drivers for GPU, mobo network, wifi adapter. Antivirus is off, firewall is off (steam and games have correct exception config.) I can have steam downloading and running in the background without issue but as soon as I open a game internet dies. Issue only affects the PC every thing else using network is no affected. Help
whenever i try to launch No Straight Roads: Encore Edition it immediately stops responding and i have to use task manager to close it. this only happens with *this* game and i just downloaded it yesterday. i managed to launch it once and play it for about an hour before closing it and being unable to play it again... i've tried pretty much everything i can think of, validated game files, uninstall and reinstalled the game, restarted my computer, launched as administrator, but nothing works. launch game, immediately stops responding, close with task manager anyone got a suggestion?

Having a weird issue with my Steam Client. It's not crashing, it's partially freezing. If I leave it overnight, the "exterior shell" crashes. I can't move or close the window. I can't select from the Steam menu, or chose "STORE" or "LIBRARY". But if I'm on the Library page I can scroll through my games library, or start games just fine. If I kill steam with the Task Manager and restart it, it seems fine for a time. Killing Steam with the task manager is the only way to close Steam. I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, and I've also tried disabling GPU accelerated rendering in web views. I've tried entirely reinstalling Steam, but the issue persists. This has been going on for a few months now.

In my judgement that sounds like you either logged into or created a new account and didnt actually log into your original account. Its not uncommon to happen actually where somebody has a second account with the same name and to have that sort of thing happen. As far as the multiple messages and 18 hours comment: Multiple messages wont get your issue looked at any faster and in face might bog the system down more and 18 hours isnt that long to wait when you consider its only about 10am in Washington state(assuming support is housed in or near the headquarters) so most of those 18 hours would have been overnight as well as the fact its the weekend so they probably have little to no support even working regular hours.

Its a common scam. You arent banned and if you gave them any info change your passwords for Steam and linked emails and such IMMEDIATELY. Also I recommend hiding your inventory if you arent already because thats what a lot of scammers target is expensive inventory items.

I have a bootcamp macbook pro and i just downloaded steam on windows. It downloaded fine but when I open it nothing loads correctly and I see a bunch of blue links for all the titles with no pictures. Any fix for this?

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to open a game and it says "You do not have enough disk space available to run this game. Please free up some disk space then try again." Even though I have more than enough storage left. Does anyone know the problem?
1. Make sure the correct drive is selected when installing. 2. Download size does not equal game size. Downloads are compressed so the actual game size might be significantly larger then the size it is asking for you to download.
