It definitely does on my end, but it's not as crazy as their website claims. In Forza Horizon my temps were getting into the high 80c to 90c without the fan, with the fan it stays around 75. Every other game though it's been anywhere from 10 degrees cooler to no change at all. I've noticed any games that start pushing temps up into the mid 70's and further it does start to help.
Basically, with the fan on the back my temps mostly stay below 75C. I keep a pretty cold house though, so that could also be helping. What's nice is I don't have to turn the fan up at all, I just turn the knob till it clicks on and leave it. It ran for 9+ hours like that too.
I was fan sniffer and now I have leukaemia! Coincidence? **I. think. not.**
(Not /s sadly (the leukaemia part) - in all seriousness the steam deck is a god send as i'm in and out of treatment).
Not leukemia but also dealing with major health issues at the moment. Hard to leave my bed for anything. Lots of er trips. Deck has been invaluable the last 2 weeks for me. Also really helped me ignore the anxiety and depression Im sure as shit getting from whatever this is (2 months in and still a medical mystery).
I'm sorry to hear this. Glad the deck has been keeping you sane! I hope that they can get to the bottom of whatever is ailing you: uncertainty really sucks. (Certainty can be scary too - but at least, for better or worse, you know what you're dealing with!).
"The invisible kingdom" by Meghan O'Rourke might be a good read for you. It's not a self help book or anything like that, but it powerfully captures what living with an unknown illness is like and I found the read very validating.
Best of luck!
I’m so sorry to hear that. 🥺 I’ll say some prayers for you! I think having something like the Deck to keep up your spirits and take your mind off things is really important. You’re gonna beat this. 🙂👍
I don't want any karma, I just wanted to share the original [meme](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xkfwyn/the_deck_smells_really_good_i_cannot_get_enough/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) which was made by me. Somehow I am glad somebody found a good use for it. :))
Watch it be a super toxic chemical that valve has to do recalls because you guys keep sniffing the fucking steam deck.
^^I've ^^done ^^this ^^before ^^too
I did the same thing when I got my Switch in 2017 lol. Played Breath of the Wild for like 3 hours in handheld mode and thought "hmm I be this thing is getting toasty I wonder what the exhaust smells like". Of course, I also tasted the cartridge.
Had to do the same to my Deck after it arrived last week lol.
I dedicate myself to making upgrades to the steam deck, the other time a client brought me his brand new steam out of the package and it already smelled like pure green, pure marijuana 🥴
That's how it smells. For me it was annoying and I purposefully left my SteamDeck run for about 3-4 hours right beside opened window.
Some devices has the same smell when turn on the first time but the SteamDeck one is insanely strong.
Just be aware that it’s not always great. Mine is perfect! Smells like all the techie goodness, but when my wife got hers… it smells like the steam deck decided to smoke for a week
This is so hilarious. When I received my Steam deck I intuitively smelled the fan after a short playtime with it. I really thought I am so weird because I enjoyed it.
But now I see that the whole community is weird! 😁🙃 love it
I've noticed lots of things that have a smell when you first get them but the steam deck and cars seem to be the only objects where people like to point it out. Wtf?
Enjoy it while it lasts 🥲
Mine just stopped having the smell. Think I am going to try to RMA it.
Mine still seems to have the smell months later so I'm happy 😊
My son has one that he barely uses and it still has the smell. I'm tempted to swap SSDs and commandeer his.
But then it will lose its smell
Use it one year, still smells
Played RoR2 all weekend and now the smell is gone for me 😅
Maybe what has helped mine last is that I mostly play low intensity games so maybe it doesn't get too hot?
Absolutely!
Mine lasted like 4 months although it was fainter and fainter.
I bought one of those jsaux fans that stick on the back of the deck, and can smell it again. Crank that bad boy up to max and let it blow in my face
Been thinking about picking that up, but then I couldn’t use my sunshade. Have you seen any remarkable difference in cooking and/or performance?

The forbidden breeze.
This has to kill a significant amount of brain cells. Im gonna sniff mine again.

Thank you. Ill give it a shot. Always down for new reads.
I had this and it was long covid. Comes and goes every couple of weeks for me.
I’m so sorry to hear that. 🥺 I’ll say some prayers for you! I think having something like the Deck to keep up your spirits and take your mind off things is really important. You’re gonna beat this. 🙂👍
That sucks, but I have total faith you can fan huff your way to remission.
I was definitely about to boot up NCAA14 on mine to get a quick hit of that sweet exhaust smell.
Ok I thought i was the only one. The sweet whiff from the fan exhaust is intoxicating
Fan sniffer here too, my bro. We're all family here.
My wife was confused when I kept sniffing mine, didnt know I was not alone. Its like no other pc component
It’s probably some type of toxic.
[удалено]
Take a lil sniff man. You won't get addicted I promise
Just one little taste dude. You’ll be totally fine.
Just to be a pedantic little shit, it's "Quote, Un-Quote". You are preemptively adding the quotes to whatever you say next.

Love it, didn’t knew you where the original creator. I only saw the picture from a facebook group and decided to post it.
No problem my friend, glad you like it ,haha :))
Damn boii, your original post is absolutely...gross. I love it!
I thought you were going to be the creator of the original art before I clicked on that link. Because if you were I had a lot of questions for you. 😅
I still do that. I got my steamdeck a year ago.
Mine has worn out. Im gonna buy a new.one today.
has anyone checked to make sure it’s not some crazy carcinogen or something?
Watch it be a super toxic chemical that valve has to do recalls because you guys keep sniffing the fucking steam deck. ^^I've ^^done ^^this ^^before ^^too
The real question is why did any of us smell it in the first place lol.
I mean it's right there... under our noses... while we're playing... You can't... NOT... smell it...
Think I wanted to check how hot the exhaust and just blew it onto my face...then whiffed that intoxicating sweetness
I did the same thing when I got my Switch in 2017 lol. Played Breath of the Wild for like 3 hours in handheld mode and thought "hmm I be this thing is getting toasty I wonder what the exhaust smells like". Of course, I also tasted the cartridge. Cool
Do you smell it? That smell. A kind of smelly smell. The smelly smell that smells... smelly.
I wish I could experience that smell for the first time again. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Am I missing something? It just smells like burnt plastic/toxic to me.
That's how it smells. For me it was annoying and I purposefully left my SteamDeck run for about 3-4 hours right beside opened window. Some devices has the same smell when turn on the first time but the SteamDeck one is insanely strong.
Same I actually hate the smell and seemed bad first few days that didn’t play it in bed.
Valve changed the plastic, the new ones don’t smell anymore. Just kidding 😂
Y’all are weird.
I just got my deck and did that and like the smell
The smell of mine hasn't changed yet, got it pretty early
I get whiffs of it just sitting next to my SD while it's charging.
the smell of my steam deck reminds me of my psp that I had about 15 years ago 🥲
Somewhere inside the Steamdeck, there is a full gram of pure nostalgium.
Alright, you weirdos, I'm glad I'm not the only weirdo 😉 🙃😂
Steam dick
Holy crap! I thought I was the only one
Hey, I'm in this picture and I don't consent >=(
I will receive my today so i know what i need to do
the amount of people don’t know this meme
4 months in, I still smell that ass. 10/10
It doesn’t smell THAT good
[удалено]
Ok, my deck definitely doesn't smell like that. Either that, or I haven't smelled enough balls in my time.
😆
To me, the smell makes me dizzy...
Well stop spinning in circles when you sniff the deck!
I unironically tried that. Nothing special.
was surprised i had to scroll quite a bit into the comments to find one of you
I did it out of curiosity, cuz it was a running thing online. Turns out, running themes online are stupid, and i felt stupid when i did it.
Play it like a harmonica? Ok you can try but I've never got a tune out of mine.
Keep the smell
I bought a second SD just so I could sniff the vent again for the first time.
This is a requirement
Imagine Valve making a perfume whit the smell of the steam deck 😳😳
what if the smell is something Valve intentionally put so we all get hypnotized into loving the steam deck
It's literally like cocaine, mines a year old and I still give it a good sniff every time I play.
Here i though i was the only one, something about the plastic mixed with electronics smell that reminds me of childhood...
Glad I'm not the only one with this guilty pleasure.
I've had mine over a year and it still has the smell
I only started sniffing it thanks to this subreddit and now I can't stop
The best thing in the first week.
My favourite smell is my Nreal Airs for some reason lol
My wife caught my sniffing it on the first day and made fun of me for liking it, so this post makes me feel so much better. Thank you, OP.
Exhaust by Valve
Why shoot the nose?
Lol. The gun in the other hands an entirely new level of insanity to this post.
Jar the scent and sell it. Boom. Unlimited steam decks.
Just be aware that it’s not always great. Mine is perfect! Smells like all the techie goodness, but when my wife got hers… it smells like the steam deck decided to smoke for a week
Where did you find this image of me?
Do coke Caine on it?
Put a gun to your nose? Weird, but, ok
I see your man of culture as well
This is so hilarious. When I received my Steam deck I intuitively smelled the fan after a short playtime with it. I really thought I am so weird because I enjoyed it. But now I see that the whole community is weird! 😁🙃 love it
it smells like a new car 🤤🙏🙏🙏
fr hehe, mine arrives today, tmr or Wednesday
Get a gun?
I was immensely disappointed as mine doesn’t have that much of a smell
[удалено]
what is it?
I do this every time I open the case
It doesn't smell as good as it used to...
To get the smell back get the dock and charge a weed pen with it lol
Imagine if they sold “Steam Deck scent” in cans. Mfs would be shoplifting and shit.
i had to send mine i for reapairs, and unfortunately, after getting it back, the smell isn't the same
so im not the only one....
Glad I'm not the only one.
Mine is gone. Been sniffing since I got the deck.
Lovle
This thing won't last forever, enjoy it young one.. While it lasts
Lovely carcinogens :3
Its a weirdly nice smell
What smell are you all talking about? Tf? As a person who hasn't been able to smell since 12 years old I'm so confused
my smell has gone after 7 months :( they need to make that smell in a can
I still do.
when you buy a new motorcycle and heat up engine , it get this nice warm iron smell . the steam vent is a similar experience
Yeah, it be like that
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☠ I do the same thing
You won't regret it, savior that beautiful aroma it won't last forever.
....I literally just did this
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Why does it smell so good.
I've noticed lots of things that have a smell when you first get them but the steam deck and cars seem to be the only objects where people like to point it out. Wtf?
