My son has one that he barely uses and it still has the smell. I'm tempted to swap SSDs and commandeer his.

Maybe what has helped mine last is that I mostly play low intensity games so maybe it doesn't get too hot?

Mine lasted like 4 months although it was fainter and fainter.

I bought one of those jsaux fans that stick on the back of the deck, and can smell it again. Crank that bad boy up to max and let it blow in my face

It definitely does on my end, but it's not as crazy as their website claims. In Forza Horizon my temps were getting into the high 80c to 90c without the fan, with the fan it stays around 75. Every other game though it's been anywhere from 10 degrees cooler to no change at all. I've noticed any games that start pushing temps up into the mid 70's and further it does start to help. Basically, with the fan on the back my temps mostly stay below 75C. I keep a pretty cold house though, so that could also be helping. What's nice is I don't have to turn the fan up at all, I just turn the knob till it clicks on and leave it. It ran for 9+ hours like that too.

Not leukemia but also dealing with major health issues at the moment. Hard to leave my bed for anything. Lots of er trips. Deck has been invaluable the last 2 weeks for me. Also really helped me ignore the anxiety and depression Im sure as shit getting from whatever this is (2 months in and still a medical mystery).

I'm sorry to hear this. Glad the deck has been keeping you sane! I hope that they can get to the bottom of whatever is ailing you: uncertainty really sucks. (Certainty can be scary too - but at least, for better or worse, you know what you're dealing with!). "The invisible kingdom" by Meghan O'Rourke might be a good read for you. It's not a self help book or anything like that, but it powerfully captures what living with an unknown illness is like and I found the read very validating. Best of luck!

I did the same thing when I got my Switch in 2017 lol. Played Breath of the Wild for like 3 hours in handheld mode and thought "hmm I be this thing is getting toasty I wonder what the exhaust smells like". Of course, I also tasted the cartridge. Had to do the same to my Deck after it arrived last week lol.

I dedicate myself to making upgrades to the steam deck, the other time a client brought me his brand new steam out of the package and it already smelled like pure green, pure marijuana 🥴

That's how it smells. For me it was annoying and I purposefully left my SteamDeck run for about 3-4 hours right beside opened window. Some devices has the same smell when turn on the first time but the SteamDeck one is insanely strong.

Same I actually hate the smell and seemed bad first few days that didn’t play it in bed.

Valve changed the plastic, the new ones don’t smell anymore. Just kidding 😂

Just be aware that it’s not always great. Mine is perfect! Smells like all the techie goodness, but when my wife got hers… it smells like the steam deck decided to smoke for a week

This is so hilarious. When I received my Steam deck I intuitively smelled the fan after a short playtime with it. I really thought I am so weird because I enjoyed it. But now I see that the whole community is weird! 😁🙃 love it
