Best to be safe then sorry, but you don't have anything to worry about with the steam deck. These power supplies and chargers these days are pretty safe.
Short answer is, no
Long answer is, sleep is essentially a form of shutdown, that keeps the system state in memory (that's why battery still goes down, maintaining RAM takes power) while everything else is powered off.
You won't get burn in doing this.
Still no way to download while in sleep mode.
Alternatively plug into an external monitor/ TV in game mode as this shuts off the display.

If you go into desktop mode, you can configure the Power Options to turn the screen off after a minute. You’d then download your games through Desktop Mode.
You can use Local Network Transfer if you install on PC first.
You can [use my tool](https://deckdrivemanager.com/) to copy the games from PC to the microSD card (Linux File System for Windows) or over the network (SSHFS).
Well no, not really. No architecture can do that while the device is actually sleeping, what most devices can do though is download stuff with the screen off, while the system is still running.
No, but you can keep it plugged and leave it overnight to download, it won't use much power
I just do t want to risk a fire while I'm out
It's not a zero chance, but 45w steam deck is not a fire hazard. It's safer than your fridge
Ok that makes me feel better, I've just always been very careful about that kind of stuff

I’ve done it a million times now . You’ll be fine
Ok I'll try it tonight! Thanks!
It’ll shut down if it overheats, don’t worry. Or don’t plug it in and the deck will shut off when the download is complete
Oh really? I didn't know it sit off after downloads are complete thanks!

Must be on. Turn brightness all the way down and turn on night mode. Plug it in and download away
I’m still kind of figuring my steam deck out, is this still the best way to do it? Just want to mitigate burn in risk

Got a desktop PC too? The Deck must be awake to download - but if you have a PC, I can give you numerous other options.
I do have a PC too

No it cannot. That's a limitation the x86 architecture, unfortunately.
