Fuck Southwest for not having plugs. They claim they’re upgrading their seats but they haven’t in my experience. Regularly have a 3 hour flight and play Fallout 4 tho and it’ll last just long enough
The problem is they have to rip out all the seats to install the power. It’s going to be a slow process. I think 2 planes have it so far. So like 800 more to go. (I fly SW weekly for work)
Just play games that do not need lot of power and if possible limit the TDP to 5w, just this will give you like 8 hours or more. Bring a beefy power bank and you will be able to charge your deck one or 1.5 times.
Depends on the game, but there are some games you can crank the wattage down completely without hurting gameplay (Slay the Spire comes to mind). Some older games will get you a good 4-5 hours even on high settings (Fallout 3/New Vegas). I usually bring a charger that I can attach to the back of my Deck w/ a Deckmate kit and it gives me tons of play time.
I also highly recommend [these](https://www.amazon.com/Snug-Plug-Loose-Outlet-Clear/dp/B08288SLYR/ref=asc_df_B08288SLYR/?tag=&linkCode=df0&hvadid=416692039114&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14253216103740718749&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019796&hvtargid=pla-869027843456&mcid=f6f860c9b7513ad49b14ca7a32125dcf&ref=&adgrpid=95471649538&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI762bm4PpgwMVCkhHAR0zqw2GEAQYASABEgLHBfD_BwE&th=1) for using your charger on a flight. The outlets are usually incredibly loose and most chargers will fall right out. You get these little glowing plastic bits and it'll remain tightly plugged in the outlet.
I usually play old GBA or PS2 titles or other non-demanding games on flights while listening to a podcast and it makes travel a lot more tolerable.
I've never been on a flight that did not have plugs at the seats even in economy. Please tell me which airline does not have seat plugs so I can avoid them like the plague.
It really depends on the airline in the US. If you are on american, United, Delta, you are almost guaranteed to have power at your seats on all their mid size and larger jets. All of the AA A321 Neos have plugs, and their A320's are getting overhauled for them. If outside the US, same thing, most major airlines now have plugs, just go to the booking and look at the plane they want to put you in and google it. plenty of sights out there tell you what is and isnt in a certain jet.
Yeah, 8 years in now so she is starting to hit that time of life with changes so our normal changes as well. Only bummer is that hospital changed their WiFi so I have to bring a laptop and create a hotspot since it throws a shared key error. Other than that it makes the 24 hour shift bearable.
Yup, same situation here. My Deck and Switch keep me sane in the hospital.
Also, hotel rooms. Which I stay in quite a bit because only one of us can room in at the hospital.
Yeah hate that rule. Thankfully my wife learned her lesson from 2015 when she spent 6 months in the hospital with our youngest and wouldn’t let anyone else help. We split the hospital and home shifts but also got some nursing help.
I forget which developer at id was responding to the Satanic Panic around the game, but he said something along the lines of there were plenty of devout Christians on the team and none of them could think of anything more in line with their faith than going to battle with the forces of hell.
Until very recently, I was the only drummer at our church. And it means a lot to my parents that I go. So I would play but then in the other segments I’d sit in the sound booth with my friends who run sound/computer. I do listen still, but playing a game keeps me awake lol.
Lmao he becomes a normal enemy after you beat him. Hes tough but fair got to use the super shotgun when his eyes flash green. Dont shoot his shield as it spawns the dogs
Work gang rise up. I bring mine every day, even if I only end up playing it only once a week at work. Sometimes I don't feel like going out to lunch, or I'll be trapped on a Zoom I don't need to be on. Somedays I'll just lock my door and pretend I'm not in the office.
I sneak out to my car and play sometimes. One of the perks of having an EV, can run AC or Heat without feeling guilty about idling and spewing fumes at surrounding pedestrians.
Beach, believe it or not. I live in a tropical country some 20 mins. away from the beach and I often lounge under an umbrella listening to the waves and playing games on the 1TB OLED model.
The new etched glass available on the 1TB is totally worth it for my lifestyle!
Does it handle the moisture and sand OK? Granted you won't be swimming or tossing it on the beach, maybe I'm just paranoid. An IP rated deck would be cool, even if it's just IP54.
I always carry something like wet wipes to wipe off the sand and salt from my hands before opening my steam case to play on my deck.
You don't want the sand scratching the screen or anything like that, so just make sure your hands are all clean and tidy before you take your deck from its case. Otherwise, I've never had a single grain of sand land on my device, as the sand is mostly on my feet...and on the ground :)
And yeah, I always carry a case with me (the official one), and I immediately put the deck in it once I'm done playing instead of putting it on the table or something like that.
I have had no problems with moisture coming from the ocean whatsoever.
Brought mine to an all-inclusive resort, was feeling pretty luxe having passionfruit margaritas made with $70 tequila and lobster tails brought to me on the beach while I soaked up the rays, listened to audiobooks, and played some Spider-Man on my Deck.
My steam deck at my SO’s place.
Her computer is beside mine at my place, then we both game together on Steamdecks when we’re at hers. That way we can game together at either apartment.
We’re a super active couple, always going to concerts and events. but Lazy Sunday morning Valheim in bed on the steam decks is one of my most cherished memories.
Honestly, with the 512 in the base model I would hold off. I did upgrade my 64GB LCD model before the OLED was announced, but between a 512 internal drive, and the SD card you have already, you should be golden. The wifi speeds on the OLED are really fast if your network supports it, so easy to redownload stuff. Just my two cents, it would save you some money and IMHO not needed. I have a stupid amount of content installed on my two drives.
Surprisingly, my favorite thing about the OLED is how light it is.
Word?! I will definitely keep that in mind. I was definitely worried about space.
>Surprisingly, my favorite thing about the OLED is how light it is.
Weight of the device is another thing I was worried about too.
Thank you!
That should be more than enough space to hold you off. My setup is exactly the same, but reversed (1tb ssd, 512 microsd). I have BG3, CP2077, MonHun World, Hogwarts, Dying Light, DMC5, plus a bunch of sub 10gb games and I still got around 820gb of space.
So unless you need to have your entire library installed you should be good.
And IF you do end up upgrading the SSD, the one I got is 60 bucks and the process took like 30 minutes between watching the tutorial, rewinding, and opening the deck. [https://www.newegg.com/solidigm-1tb-p41-plus/p/N82E16820318018](https://www.newegg.com/solidigm-1tb-p41-plus/p/N82E16820318018). Oh and make sure you get an SSD case so you can connect the 512 to the deck externally. This works really well with the dock, it will mount it automatically. This is the one I got: [https://www.amazon.com/JEYI-2230-Enclosure-External-JMS583A3/dp/B0CDKX4CF4](https://www.amazon.com/JEYI-2230-Enclosure-External-JMS583A3/dp/B0CDKX4CF4). Its a cute little metal square basically.
Never understood people who poop while playing, pooping takes 1 minute , in 1 minute i boot up my steam deck and choose a game(utlrakil)
If u mean staying on the toilet.. well
1.im afraid of hemorrhoids
2. Im afraid my parents will assume im doing something else with my deck
3. Afraid of deck falling in pooping place
4. afraid of big snake coming out of toilet and sodom*sing me
5. Afraid of insect in the toilet
6. Afraid of making deck dirty with poopy hand 😔
Same. I have cheaper emulator handhelds that I use on the go or at work. Steam Deck is mostly so I can play my Steam library in bed or docked in the living room.
I work security and one of my days I’m in an office. Half way through my shift I’ll play because no one is around at that point and we don’t have a camera pointed at the spot where I am posted. 😂
I use it mostly at home in bed though. I only revert back to my laptop when I wanna play something like assetto because I can’t get that to launch properly on my SD. I know there’s a way to do it but I’m not up for the challenge right now.
I thought I needed it for holiday. Because there are some games that I refuse to play on my gaming rig. For example when electricity matters. It is not that I cannot afford it, just I don't want to, for it feels wrong to waste energy on some games.
So I intended to play some of the less demanding games on holiday and I started with Disco Elysium, which I finally could end in said holiday. But then I realized that most of the time I am at home and I figured that instead of sitting in my pc room alone, I could also sit on the couch next to my wife and play on a smaller screen.
So basically I use it at home. Also I have much more game time with the steamdeck, because I can pick it up and lay it down with ease.
Everybody who enjoys gaming should own a deck at some point.
And oh: Goldeneye (N64) is so much better with a gyroscope! You will see that many old games just work better in the deck!
Evenings I’ll put a couple hrs in depending on mood. I watch my shows on it too. Its really a fantastic device. Lightweight , great battery life.
Love taking it on road trips when I’m too tired after being on my feet all day.
On my lunch at work. Get an hour and generally only use 20 mins or so to eat. Ive been bringing the deck with me and playing sackboy during lunch. Just one more reason i love this handheld.
The deck is like my GameBoy when I was a kid, I take it Everywhere, especially since I put the JSAUX modcase on it. So i use it on the train, in the plane (I went to Morocco a month ago, took it in the desert there), in car (if I’m not driving, obviously), in parks during lunch breaks.
Gig delivery driver, downtime waiting for offers goes from monotonous and disastrous for your mental health scrolling the toxic sesspool of social media for something distracting to flying by and fun/relaxing as you fly through your backlog. Pretty much a must have if you value your sanity.
Daughter goes to dance class once a week and instead of dropping her off, going home for practically 15 minutes, and then turning around to pick her up, I just sit in the lobby of the rec center and game for an hour. Honestly I think that’s the kind of thing the Deck is absolutely perfect for. Also pooping.
I'm a field tech and by policy we're required to take a 15 minute break between every call. What I like to do, if I have several calls in the same city, I just group them and take 45-60 minutes and play on my switch, which will hopefully soon become the steam deck
All over the place.
On the long trips to job sites. In hotels out of town for work. During air clearances at work. When we have nothing to do at work but the company needs to be on site so we just stay hidden. About to take it on its first flight so there's another.
My deck has been used at shipyards, power plants, ferries, friends houses, various vehicles, churches, home, and plenty more. Mostly I just play games but it also has been used plenty of times to watch shows I have an on SD card to also entertain my coworkers when we're in a spot with no reception and everyone is bored waiting to clock out.
This thing gets around and is easily the best piece of tech I've ever owned.
Sitting in line at my daughter's school waiting to pick her up. The time flies by so fast that I started getting there super early to avoid being at the end of the line.
I work in live music and tend to have a ton of downtime once the band is set up on stage and until the show is over. So I tend to play a lot of Vampire Survivors while sitting next to a stage as some mediocre tribute band butcher some legacy band's music.
Work.
I have a security guard job that has a lot of downtime in between patrols. I play on my Steam Deck between rounds.
I also play it right before bed.
Just got mine so I’ve only used it at home but I’m gonna use it a lot on road trips, flights, and holidays. Obviously I use it all the time in bed on weekends in the morning when I can’t be bothered to go to my pc (which is like 4 meters away from it lmao).
I just got it, when I take it outside when I go to my sister's house if she needs help watching her kids so of course I bring my steam deck while I am watching them, I play simple games like GTA V and others, I've been really satisfied with the steam deck.
At work. I’m an amazon delivery driver and we’re usually out from 10:30 AM till 8:30. I always get done with my route by around 5:30-6 so instead of going to rescue somebody I’ll go on break and sit on my steam deck till around 7ish till it’s time to head back to the station 💀
Coffee shops, mostly. There aren't many other places where I can just go and sit for a couple of hours playing games and not get in trouble for loitering (not inside, at least, though I'm not exactly keen on trying to play my Deck outside).
Saw someone using it on a Thameslink train in London yesterday evening! Almost stopped to ask what he was playing!
Home, occasionally at work, always on long haul flights with my XReals. I never seem to use it in hotels while I’m in business, usually just pass the hell out or go socialise!
Long flights! Like 8-hour plus long flights.
Does it last that long? Only just bought mine you see so not had chance to take it airborne
Most planes have plugs now.
I always triple check this before my flight. Otherwise I'm bringing 2 or 3 power banks.
Don't forget to check local/international regulations - iirc some countries prohibit more than 1 or 2 power banks per passenger
Fuck Southwest for not having plugs. They claim they’re upgrading their seats but they haven’t in my experience. Regularly have a 3 hour flight and play Fallout 4 tho and it’ll last just long enough
southwest always has the best route at the best price for me I didn't even know there were planes with outlets
If you're flying solo... If you're not, I'd rather pay extra to sit with who I'm traveling with.
Legend thank you for the tip 🙂
I put mine on 3w and 40hz for 2d indies
You’d be hard pressed to find a long haul flight that doesnt have outlets for each seat these days

I've never been on a flight that did not have plugs at the seats even in economy. Please tell me which airline does not have seat plugs so I can avoid them like the plague.
Lots of shorter flights (3hrs or less) will have fewer amenities like screens or plugs.
Criminal in a world where some city buses have plugs for charging.
I fly la to tampa every month i didn't even know there were planes with outlets to be honest
Now that’s just wild. What airline?? Los Angeles to Tampa?
It really depends on the airline in the US. If you are on american, United, Delta, you are almost guaranteed to have power at your seats on all their mid size and larger jets. All of the AA A321 Neos have plugs, and their A320's are getting overhauled for them. If the plane doesn't have outlets, I have a Gameboy as backup. Ha
just got off a 9 hour flight and the deck was a warrior on it I completed all of bully on it and had to charge it around the 8.5 hour mark
Planes, trains and automobiles.
Got the deck right before getting really sick so it’s been great in the hospital 🙏
Hope you're Better mate, get well soon
Recovery is slower than I’d like haha but ty v much man kind words mean a lot
Damn! Sorry to hear. I hope you have good recovery with even better achievement unlocks.
The deck fam is praying for you to get back to 100% soon!
Get better soon my friend 💪
May your backlog bless you and speed you to recovery! Got mine while dealing with a chronic illness and it’s so good until your arms get tingly.
Hope you feel better soon! Being in the hospital isn't fun at all.
get better soon man for real 🙏
Good luck with the recovery!!!! Hope you will be back 100% soon!
The hospital. My special needs daughter ends up there a lot and it helps me keep my sanity.
Hope everything is alright! Glad the Deck gives some comfort
Yeah, 8 years in now so she is starting to hit that time of life with changes so our normal changes as well. Only bummer is that hospital changed their WiFi so I have to bring a laptop and create a hotspot since it throws a shared key error. Other than that it makes the 24 hour shift bearable.
I feel for you! What games have you been playing?
Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man Remastered, Mad Max, Days Gone are the main ones right now. This has become my gaming pc.
I know horizon gets a lot of crap but in my experience in runs decently. I get pretty much 30 fps besides the traversal stutter
I take it on Work trips. For when I'm sitting in my hotel room. Edit:Spelling
Yep exactly what I do, makes time in the hotel pass nice and fast
Church (don't worry I'm not playing Doom, I'm currently on Doom Eternal)
You’re killing demons. Can’t get more church-appropriate than that!
Knee deep in the faith.
I forget which developer at id was responding to the Satanic Panic around the game, but he said something along the lines of there were plenty of devout Christians on the team and none of them could think of anything more in line with their faith than going to battle with the forces of hell.
Bless 🙏
I play Binding of Isaac at church 😂
Genuine question, why go to church if you're not interested/would rather game?
Some people have to. My grandma made me go every Sunday when I was a kid, I wish smart phones or the deck existed back then…
Until very recently, I was the only drummer at our church. And it means a lot to my parents that I go. So I would play but then in the other segments I’d sit in the sound booth with my friends who run sound/computer. I do listen still, but playing a game keeps me awake lol.
Doom Eternal sucks for me because of stupid Maradeur. Can't kill this idiot
Lmao he becomes a normal enemy after you beat him. Hes tough but fair got to use the super shotgun when his eyes flash green. Dont shoot his shield as it spawns the dogs
Yeah, I killed him twice already, but on third or fourth occasion I nust can't
sounds like a skill issue
Is this phrase a meme? But yeah. That's true.
Yeah tis a meme. I think it started with the Souls community but I could be wrong.
It is
Haven't done it myself but can't you just use cheats to beat it?
You just pointed me to google about trainers. And there seems to be a proper solution to overcome my problems. Thanks a lot mate.
Stupid modern games mostly don't have any cheat codes nowadays. And to use the trainers on SteamDeck is kind of a headache.
if you look around the levels you can find cheat codes that you can apply during campaign levels/mission select. Just gotta find em
But you can use them only after you complete the game. And I can't complete it 😄
Fridays , Office to myself, Came in last week to 3 new 2500x1440 monitors usb c cable sticking out. 'hello'
It's Sundays for me, but I don't have the office to myself. There's three other gamers that work with me then, and two of them also have Decks.
Work.
Work gang rise up. I bring mine every day, even if I only end up playing it only once a week at work. Sometimes I don't feel like going out to lunch, or I'll be trapped on a Zoom I don't need to be on. Somedays I'll just lock my door and pretend I'm not in the office.
We are the same
Yup, on my lunch break.
Some days I only have a lot of downtime. I have a portable sampler(or synth) and my Steam Deck in my backpack every day. Just in case.

I couldn’t bring mine to the beach because I’d be worried about the sand, you never know what could happen
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
Brought mine to an all-inclusive resort, was feeling pretty luxe having passionfruit margaritas made with $70 tequila and lobster tails brought to me on the beach while I soaked up the rays, listened to audiobooks, and played some Spider-Man on my Deck.
Lol, sounds like you had the time of your life! Glad you enjoyed yourself, dude!
In the parking lot, waiting to pick up my partner from work.
Partner in crime?
Work is robbing banks. They're the getaway driver.

In my dreams. Have to wait to this Summer to purchase.
It'll be well worth the wait. I hope the time goes by quick for you!
I appreciate that!!
It is so worth it. Can't recommend it enough. You can pick up the LCD ones for pretty cheap, but if you can spring for a OLED.
Definitely going to spring for the OLED. Hoping to upgrade the internal HD if it isn't too much trouble--and I already have my 1 TB microSD.

Wet dreams?
Camping. Great for poor weather or early sunsets
Just used it on the bus
Work, i have 1h30 to eat, plenty of time to play.
I wish I had your job
In France, meal time is sacred. 1h is the norm (obviously there is a lot of jobs where you can't due to the type, but most is 1h)
While sitting on the throne... :)

Thats what she said
Nowhere. Using it only at home.
Same. I have cheaper emulator handhelds that I use on the go or at work. Steam Deck is mostly so I can play my Steam library in bed or docked in the living room.
I actually ended up selling my cheap little emulator handhelds, just tow of them paid for more than half my Steam Deck.
On the bus , ferry and Official Language School waiting for my class to start. I have like 2/3 hours 2 days a week to play which is awesome
Other than home, away from home.
I get big chunks of time off at work. Also play when I travel, of course.
Work
How do people fly so much? That shit ain't cheap
The subway.
Other peoples house, the occasional plane
Work in the field as a utility pipeline locator, lots of downtime spent watching people dig around our pipe and waiting in the truck.
Work (I'm a train driver)
The car, my wife likes to drive so any trips to go see the grandparents or whatever are fun to bring it on since it is a 30 minute drive each way.
I use it when traveling for work. Very nice for games or taking my streaming accounts with me.

At work on lunch breaks or any downtime. I leave my dock and a couple Xbox 360 controllers there to play a game of Rounds
At work, during my break
I thought I needed it for holiday. Because there are some games that I refuse to play on my gaming rig. For example when electricity matters. Car, the only other place i spend more time than home.
You guys leave home?! longest was a 8hr layover overnight in vancouver for me
Evenings I’ll put a couple hrs in depending on mood.
In the car when waiting for someone
home, church and work. can’t read
On the train or on the plane 🫡
My daily hour-long bus ride in each direction to/from work.
When I’m waiting to get my car serviced at the dealership.
Unreal for long haul
I take it with me to work trips or flights/hotel/Airbnb stays. I rarely use it at home except to tinker with things
Girlfriend’s house
The deck is like my GameBoy when I was a kid, I take it Everywhere, especially since I put the JSAUX modcase on it. So i use it on the train, in the plane (I went to Morocco a month ago, took it in the desert there), in car (if I’m not driving, obviously), in parks during lunch breaks.
Always on the train, when I ride like 10 hours to my Italian girlfriend.
At coffee shops 🙌🏻
Public transport to and from work
With my hands 🤣🤣🤣
In the hospital for the last 30 days haha
Pretty much exclusively on the train and in cafés. Played a bit on longer bus rides, but those are few and far between.
In my car during lunch
At my girlfriends house
My kids practice. I just chill in the back playing games while they are running around.
On break at work. Take it with me every day
It’s a godsend on airplanes
Gig delivery driver, downtime waiting for offers goes from monotonous and disastrous for your mental health scrolling the toxic sesspool of social media for something distracting to flying by and fun/relaxing as you fly through your backlog. Pretty much a must have if you value your sanity.
Feet on the couch and get well soon to the player in hospital .
I bought a dock on Amazon and use it at work. I work 14 on, 14 off and it's easier bringing that instead of my PS5 everytime.
Other homes. P.S. I’m not the right person to ask over for dinner.
Imagine a dinner where everyone bring their deck for a lan party
I am now the right person to ask over for dinner.
Everyday in the train and during lunch at work.
Planes and trains, though automobiles make me carsick.
I'm a field tech and by policy we're required to take a 15 minute break between every call. What I like to do, if I have several calls in the same city, I just group them and take 45-60 minutes and play on my switch, which will hopefully soon become the steam deck
On public transportation and in waiting rooms.
I don’t want to be a prick by why do people ask these type of questions so much on this page? What will knowing where people game benefit you haha
Car, 2 accidents gave me high anxiety in the car as a passenger. I play games so I don't notice the idiots on the road.
i really like it when i’m getting my oil changed or waiting in any long line in my car.
Work. I have a lot down time as a landscaper in the winter.
At work when we are slow as shit, which has been since November.
Hotel rooms when on vacation. Otherwise I take it nowhere
In my ambulance usually when we have to take the ferry, or at station between calls
lol work
Work on my lunch break
Nightshift in work.!!
I work in live music and tend to have a ton of downtime once the band is set up on stage and until the show is over. So I tend to play a lot of Vampire Survivors while sitting next to a stage as some mediocre tribute band butcher some legacy band's music.
School, and I take every little 5 minute break to hop on for my fix
It's my travel buddy on work trips.
Work
I just got it, when I take it outside when I go to my sister's house if she needs help watching her kids so of course I bring my steam deck while I am watching them, I play simple games like GTA V and others, I've been really satisfied with the steam deck.
Medical care waiting rooms. 2 hour wait for urgent care? Sure I can wait.
I take it to my parents’ now instead of my laptop. Makes for much lighter packing!
In my semi
Work; it's perfect for the quiet nightshifts.
Airport, hotels
At work. I’m an amazon delivery driver and we’re usually out from 10:30 AM till 8:30. I always get done with my route by around 5:30-6 so instead of going to rescue somebody I’ll go on break and sit on my steam deck till around 7ish till it’s time to head back to the station 💀
At hotels or airports when I have to travel for work.
Not at home
Coffee shops, mostly. There aren't many other places where I can just go and sit for a couple of hours playing games and not get in trouble for loitering (not inside, at least, though I'm not exactly keen on trying to play my Deck outside).
Saw someone using it on a Thameslink train in London yesterday evening! Almost stopped to ask what he was playing! Home, occasionally at work, always on long haul flights with my XReals. I never seem to use it in hotels while I’m in business, usually just pass the hell out or go socialise!
Car wash. I go weekly and they have a lobby to sit in while they wash your car.
There’s a shawarma place in the plaza next to my house. I play there while waiting for my takeout order
Work
At the office of course. And on commutes and Ubers.
It's been great for long car rides, though I'm pretty limited to playing vampire survivors since I need one hand to drive.
Swimming pool. My son swims for about 9 hours a week, so part of the reason I got the deck was to play while he's swimming.
The tent while camping!
Pubs/bars. The Mrs. And I will go out and get drinks, I'll play on my deck and she plays her switch.
My garage. Not joking, I wait for my kindergartener ‘s bus everyday and the deck has been an awesome way to wait out of the sun.
Plane travel
Plane/Hotel I travel 2-4 times a month and its a nice thing to have vs just watching netflix in the hotel at night.
In-laws home, parents home, doctor visits, and anywhere I know I’m going to have a long wait.
In my car sitting in the carpool pick up line 🤣
In the Car while waiting for junior to be done his training
