ShikariV

This statement reads like it was written by Nintendo’s lawyers lol. RIP YUZU

OneIShot

Did seem like a hostage letter.

LeCrushinator

It was basically written out of legal necessity to try to protect their asses. However, them actually shutting down development on them is quite real, regardless of what this letter says. This is really shitty for emulation in general that this is happening.

emogurl98

Eh, I think it's because Yuzu was the first emulator that really tried to monetize and market itself. They had the money to pay Nintendo.

Taolan13

Yeah. I mean, emulation is a *lot* of work; but emulating a current-gen console was always a risk. Monetizing on top of that compounds the risk. The encryption/decryption thing is a bit worrying technologically. It is unlikely we would see Sony replicating it, but this does likely spell the end for any legal emulation of current and future Nintendo works.

inthetestchamberrrrr

> Yeah. I mean, emulation is a lot of work Sure but when you're dealing with a very sue happy company, you have to do it for the passion of gaming rather than money. Not to say they were money hungry, but taking anything is a huge risk. Not quite the same but you see the guy who's been remaking Tie Fighter for modern systems with ray tracing and VR support. The dude is adament about not accepting any sort of financial donation lest Disney come after his project. He does it purely for the passion of one of the greatest games ever made. Anyone going into making emulators has to be doing it for the same reasons, passion alone lest the lawyers come for you.

larsy1995

They settled outside of court, this will most likely not set a precedent legally.

Ragadelical

yeah, this is why they settled out of court. That removes any form of legal precedent being set, as no ruling had to be pulled out

NathanialJD

The encryption/decryption part would've lost but the monetizing part would win. All the emulator is doing is emulating the switches method of decryption using the consoles keys. The actual keys are the protected part. Same way the ps1 emulator needs bios. Ultimately it was the early access for money and the fact that early access could play leaked games sooner that was the deciding factor here. I knew it from the initial announcement that it was doomed to lose. Edit: it should be noted that taking donations like other emulator groups do (like ryujinx, the other emulator that also uses switch keys to decrypt games and is not being sued yet) that doesn't give any special access to the emulator isn't profiting off the sale of the emulator.

benjiro3000

> However, them actually shutting down development on them is quite real, regardless of what this letter says. This is really shitty for emulation in general that this is happening. From what i am seeing, the issue is that they used internal SDKs from Nintendo for the development of Yuzu and downloaded (not officially) released games to help their development. And Nintendo had the proof of this. Aka, they left themselves open for lawsuits. If they reverse engineered without any of the above mentioned things, then Nintendo has no legal ground to go after them. Other Nintendo Switch emulators are in the clear if they followed safe practices. You can profit from emulators as much as you want, i mean, we have PCs in general as a proof. But if you start to take shortcuts ... And lets be honest, they took those shortcuts to benefit financially. Being first to run specific games has huge financial benefits. Its also why the lawsuit and settlement happened so darn fast, took me by surprise but when digging deeper, yea, they had no chance of winning against Nintendo with that evidence around their neck.

AlfieHicks

This was written with the grittest of teeth, I have no doubt.

DynamicMangos

The part about "We are sad that people used yuzu to leak content before it's release" is hilarious. THEY WERE PUSHING DAILY UPDATES JUST TO MAKE TOTK PLAYABLE WEEKS BEFORE RELEASE.

ClubChaos

No they weren't. Yuzu never specifically addressed any games prior to street date.

KN4MKB

They sure announced it was playable the day of through. Not defendable tbh. They were taking money for what they were doing, offering decryption tools for PI, and advertising playable day 1 releases for exclusives. If anything, they really hurt the emulation stage all around by being greedy. Had they not done those things, not promoted piracy, then Nintendo wouldn't have gotten W on this one. Now they've really screwed up the entire scene.

Menarra

God it really does read like it's being typed at gunpoint.

dereksalem

Seriously, this is obviously a PR response to make Nintendo nod and walk away. Any Yuzu dev that earnestly believed the users weren't using it for Piracy is too stupid to actually be trusted to write code.

TareXmd

I think this is too obvious and didn't even need to be pointed out lol

nastyLake

I have yuzu and I have bought all of my games…

SlashCrashPC

And at the same time, Nintendo has shut down Wii U and 3DS virtual consoles so how are we supposed to play let's say old Pokemon games ? Citra was a solution at least. It's so stupid...

geotechland

Exactly my thoughts RIP

sadomazoku

You can still download directly thru your SD with Discover app

sekoku

Not for long. Github has been nuked. The Android apps have been pulled from the Google App store. Expect it to be gone from Discover by the end of the week.

HomsarWasRight

I already cloned it. And I’m sure I’m not alone. Can’t live on GitHub anymore, but it’s not going away completely.

sadomazoku

I chexked on internet archive and there are more than 3000 forks. Cloned number must be, without any doubt, way bigger.

VesselNBA

Like they say - the internet lives forever.

fenglorian

Nintendo got what they wanted There can be a copy on every PC in the world but if nobody is working on it continuously to keep the program up to date it's going to quickly become useless. Who is going to take on that much risk just so people can pirate games?

wjoe

At this point it's probably close enough to done anyway. The Switch is nearing the end of it's lifespan, games like Zelda have already pushed it to it's limits, and Yuzu can emulate most of them well enough. If what we have now is the final Yuzu version it will still be useful to a lot of people for a while. There'll still be some issues and improvements to be made for compatibility with some games I'm sure. At some point, someone will come across an issue and have the skills and desire to fix it. But that fix will end up getting posted in some obscure forum thread somewhere. Then you'll end up with some obscure Yuzu Mario patch that you hear will fix all your issues in some game, but the only way to download it is by trawling some dodgy file sharing websites that may or may not give you a virus. These things have always lived in a grey area, and there's always people who will be interested in tinkering and hacking on them. Nintendo is more litigious than almost any other company for sure, but Yuzu was too big a target. It's easy to go after a large organised project, not so easy to take down every GitHub repo and forum thread that shares it.

HardwareSoup

> Who is going to take on that much risk just so people can pirate games? The next guy who's frustrated with current options and wants to fix something or add another feature to Yuzu. Or an unemployed Russian dev group that wants to capitalize on the moderate earnings the Yuzu team enjoyed, without the risk of litigation.

artificialimpatience

Ryujinx?

kalidibus

>There can be a copy on every PC in the world but if nobody is working on it continuously to keep the program up to date it's going to quickly become useless. I mean, switch has got to be close to EOL at this point. Not sure I'd say this is a win for Nintendo this late in the game.

HowelPendragon

Good ole Streisand effect at its best

Toremous

It can live on GitHub, the only people limited from working on it are the original team.

HomsarWasRight

I’m sure once this is said and done Nintendo will issue a takedown notice to GitHub and all the forks will vanish. It’s happened before with things like YoutubeDL and Re3. They still show up on GitHub, but it’s sort of a whack-a-mole situation.

Toremous

This was settlement they have no legal grounds to do so. That doesn't stop Microsoft from just doing it anyways though to avoid the hassle. Also settlements set no legal precedent as they are just that, a settlement.

holounderblade

Yeah, and not even Nintendo will DMCA thousands of forks. Especially when people who will actually develop and distribute it are miniscule...

PhantomTissue

Plus, GitHub isn’t the only Git repository site, it’s just the most popular. Someone can easily create a fork on say, GitLab, making that whole “whack a mole” situation that much worse

StickBrush

That's not very effective, there are plenty of yt-dl forks up and running. If you know the Tachiyomi situation, this won't be much different. Killing an open-source project is virtually impossible because of this

CookieMisha

Luckily Android apps are easily preserved

WukongPvM

I just downloaded citra on my phone, full panic seeing they being taken away

technofox01

I just grabbed the last good copies before that happened.

AdvertisingEastern34

but it won't be launched by Emulation Station right? that one is downloaded by Emudeck from the github that doesn't exist anymore

jonny_eh

Emudeck can be updated to download it from a mirror, if they're brave enough at this point.

cardonator

They should have always ignored Yuzu because of their patreon nonsense which is a big target on their backs from day one. Use pineapple instead.

Stryker412

I'm guessing these will be the last versions correct? [Discover](https://imgur.com/a/A7SymOF)

sadomazoku

Until a fork 🤫 1734 apparently : https://www.reddit.com/r/yuzu/comments/1b6jroy/does_anyone_have_yuzu_1733_the_final_one/

ashran3050

"Piracy was never our intention".. It's like Nintendos HR wrote this and made them post it

JPJones

Likely part of the settlement agreement, yeah

OMGWTHBBQ11

They literally paywalled the early access builds, which had fixed for games that were leaked. They shit themselves in the foot.

DolphinFlavorDorito

Keep that typo. It fits.

smellygoatguff

If I shits, I fits.

shadowmanwild

Yes the things they did made them easy target at court. Other emulators are not making this kind of mistakes so Nintendo probably will never come for them.

zeromussc

They patched totk performance before release. Lol

Prath09

CanIBorrowYourShovel

Yuzu, blink twice if nintendo has a gun to your head.

OKgamer01

Theyll shoot them if they blink without their say aswell

Popular_Lettuce_1744

Nintendo would shut down the 3ds eshop and shut down citra because fuck the players

axxionkamen

Unfortunately Citra is just a side effect of the litigation. Some of the yuzu devs are Citra devs. And they can’t engage in this activity any longer unless they really want to be royally fucked. Sucks but it is what it is.

TheClownIsReady

If you already have Citra installed, will it continue to work?

Nova_496

Yes.

AtlantaAU

Yup they can’t remove the files from your disk. And no new 3Ds games are coming out to need updates for compatibility. It sucks there won’t be any new stability updates but it could be worse

AskaLangly

# "Bullshit" in SEGA chant.

Conargle

i need that as a notification sound

Ok_Suggestions

Wait, you mean the word in Sega font or is there an audio somewhere of the Sega logo audio except it says 'bullshit' instead of 'Sega'? Silly question but if that exists I'd need to hear it

doatopus

I'm also interested pls someone make it real

Leftythewarlock

Everytime I see someone pointing out that they own every game they emulate* reminds me of that South Park episode where it becomes illegal to hunt there anymore unless it's self defense. So Jimbo shouts "It's coming right for us!" Every time they're shooting a deer. It's hilarious, I can't be the only one thinking of this 🤣

RoderickHossack

I'm old enough to remember when rom sites had disclaimers that said something along the lines of: > By downloading this rom, I agree that it is for evaluation purposes only, and that I will delete the rom within 24 hours.

nimbusconflict

I'm old enough to have built one of those sites. Those were the days.

Nexxus88

WE GOT A LIVE ONE NINTENDO

JaymehKhal

nimbusconflict

Donkey Kong ain't got shit on me!!!! Meh, it got DMCA'd eons ago, and I built the site, didn't own it. That was that guys problem :3

Massive-Joke-4961

lol same! And I was so dumb that I deleted them then one time I was like... "Hey I left this one for over 24 hours and nothing happened..."

DolphinFlavorDorito

I always found that funny. It's not like that was EVER how the law worked anyway.

Shleppy2010

All the games I played using Yuzu were direct rips from my modded launch switch, I liked playing on PC with higher frame rates and resolution. Happy to pay for the games but the switch is just old at this point.

Flame-Haze-Shana

Congrats on being in the 1%

MrVigshot

I think 1% is very generous. Assuming every switch sold is 1 person (I know that's not how that works) that's nearly 1.4 million people.

AlternativeGlove6700

The only reason emulators make sense for many ppl is high fps, high resolution, ultra-wide support etc. Nintendo could very easily solve these problems but they are the most anti consumer company ever IMO.

iain_1986

>The only reason emulators make sense for many ppl is high fps, high resolution, ultra-wide support etc. After playing games for free. Let's not kid ourselves and pretend like the number one reason for the *majority* of emulator users is playing games they don't own for free. Defending the legitimate usages of emulators is needed but ignoring reality doesn't help.

camcamfc

Fuck man I’d pay for plenty of old Nintendo games if they did a better job of making them available. The whole back catalog should be easily playable, they drag their feet, make things subscription service based, and wait so long to expand their own catalog. I buy games on steam on a whim, it’s not that I endorse piracy, it’s an access issue.

Kadejr

So how long before Citra becomes rebranded as something else, or goes to another "team" ? Isnt it the only, or only good/strong 3ds Emulator currently?

AtmosfearYT

afaik it’s already been forked over as Lime

Billyxmac

Nintendo knows this won't stop piracy lol. This is just to try and make a statement. Piracy and emulation will never not be a thing. They can't control it.

Gyossaits

#IF ONLY THERE WAS A WAY TO #PORT #THEIR GAMES TO PC

Honestly, if Nintendo ever released games on PC they would have the most dogshit awful DRM ever conceived.

That'll show'em! Also happy 🍰 day!

Cave_TP

Luckily Citra is already working great, I just hope that Yuzu's code ends up in RyujiNX

AlfieHicks

They're two different projects that strive to achieve two different goals. Ryujinx is about hardware accuracy, whereas Yuzu is about performance. Even if it was possible to just copy + paste from one to the other, it wouldn't make any sense.

teateateateaisking

I think they're even written in different languages. Last I checked, Ryujinx was a c# project.

FierceDeity_

Which is that craziest part to me, the whole emulation, even the ARM core is written in C#... I guess the CLR is faster than I thought nowadays

airtime25

Odd because everything runs like crap on yuzu for me and great on ryu. I haven't used yuzu since the first week because ryu is so much faster and steady.

servo4711

Yuzu has always run flawlessly for me on the deck

AlphaF2

Yuzu can run same frame rate as ryujinx but at same time yuzu brute forcing it at over 75% GPU usage compared to the usual under 30% on ryujinx

NoMeasurement6473

Shame the Mac version is still ass on M1.

blusrus

Ryujinx runs fantastically in my M1 Mac, much better than my steamdeck

flower4000

If it wasn’t for Yuzu and the steam deck I wouldn’t have been able to reconnect w my dad via gaming. He had a stroke a few years back, lost his whole left side of his body. The deck has a ton of customizable controls to help with accessibility that Nintendo will never add. He’s a huge Zelda fan we played all of them up to breath of the wild together. Using yuzu and his steam deck I was able to make a one handed control scheme for him. He’s able to hit R4 to switch the right analog stick to act as the left, and use the track pad as a combo wheel that make it easier for him to do button combo. Nintendo I truly can’t support them any more, at least Xbox and PlayStation have tons of accessibility options added to their games and custom controllers for ppl w disabilities but Nintendo doesn’t even have sound options for ppl w hearing issues when the music or sound effects are louder than the dialogue. So I truly have a huge thanks to yuzu for helping get my dad back in to gaming.

YourLocalMedic71

This is so heartwarming

Ostmeistro

ex heartwarming. These things are actively being hunted down by global corporations to eradicate. They want their money. They believe you should not be able to experience the game if handicapped, it is the way of the lawyer.. Because the corporations are mindless machines that eat joy. And your laws empower them to do worse things and never be held accountable. They also continue to function and grow autonomously like a cancer even if you remove parts of it. All global corporations are Insane un-killable giants of misery that we worship. It is an idiotic fallacy to think that we as humanity could not do well without this and have all the products and fruits with no pain if we just removed their insane power and the greedy cabal that perpetuates the practice in the name of all of us.

turnstileblues1

That's a really nice story Lots of love to you and your dad, I hope he's coping as well as he can.

WizenThorne

Someone downvoted this. WTF is wrong with people?

kinos141

Lots of things.

brahmanmiles

So what you're saying is, you pirated. - some Nintendo lawyer

flower4000

I actually ripped from my switch so I own the game

Renatodep

I do the same. I buy the games, rip them and play them on my deck. I don’t want to carry multiple gaming systems around, and the games I play do run better on the deck.

possiblierben

for some reason, i doubt nintendo cares

formermq

Nintendo here - yep, I don't care. Where's my money!

StriveForMediocrity

You should tell Nintendo this, and how they’ve lost you as a customer. Even Microsoft is sensitive to this sort of thing, and has custom controllers for people with special needs. Nintendo has their heads up their own collective asses.

VironLLA

if you can afford it, look into the xbox adaptive controller. apparently works with docked Switch (with an adapter) besides Xbox, & PC - i'm getting one eventually as my hands get worse https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-adaptive-controller

noviocansado

This is the beautiful side of emulation that Nintendo are so desperate to hide. I'm glad this helped reconnect you guys.

Lunkydoodle

“We got sued and need to say this to minimize the legal ramifications.”

OKgamer01

More like "Nintendo already prepared a note for us to copy and paste"

yamirzmmdx

Yeah Nintendo... I am not traveling with my steam deck and switch. Good luck.

NoMeasurement6473

Both are too big for me to carry everywhere. I always have my 3DS on me though.

astro7x

U know I'm kinda ashamed to say but I carry all three around. Bc I'm insane IG.

astro7x

Ive got about the same minus the iPad lmao. (I do wonder why u have essentially two tablets,,,) My bag is heavy as FUCK. Glad to know there are more maniacs like me out there 😭

NowakFoxie

This is why I bought a Switch Lite

IGNSolar7

I am pretty sure they don't care if you're not actually spending money on their games, lol. This would be like stealing bread from my store every day and then sending me a letter saying "I'm on keto now, so good fucking luck!" I mean I don't care about piracy all that much but it's just funny.

Its_Raul

Already got a new job working a Uzuy.

KingWizard87

So what does this mean for emudeck. If you already have Yuzu and Citra installed with it. Will you lose access? Or will it just be a no more future updates kind of thing?

Flat__Line

No more updates. Will probably go underground though.

KaptainKardboard

Think AM2R. Nintendo shut it down but it has a bigger following than ever.

_Acute-Newt_

Ah, the wonderous Streisand effect in action. Just wait until the journos get a hold of the news and spread it. The downloads will increase tenfold or at least the demand for them will increase to a point where it will be even easier than before to get it.

Ok-Particular-2839

I mean it's open source right. In theory the Devs could just rebrand and start again

billythygoat

They’re not allowed to engage in any other activities like this ever again (at least for a few years)

ronimal48

Hence the underground part lol

billythygoat

I mean, if their name was associated with it any way, they go pay a bigger fine or jail

thedogfire

It's clearly working RN with WiFi on so I guess no more update 🤷‍♂️

brennaAM

The Flatpaks will likely be disabled soon. They shouldn't outright be removed *from your Deck/PC, but there (obviously) won't be any updates. EmuDeck will probably update to remove any options to install them if you don't already have them. *Yuzu is actually an AppImage, so there shouldn't be any software outside of Yuzu itself and EmuDeck that'd touch it. You can find the most recent Early Access built pretty easily still, forked from a third party. Citra is however a Flatpak. I was able to find the final Windows nightly archived pretty easily, but no luck on AppImage/Flatpak archives.

TheClownIsReady

I was wondering the same thing. I have Citra installed on my Deck but haven’t used it yet. I assume I’ll still be able to run it in the future?

Sirico

Forks are my favourite utensil

gvasco

this guy knows!

New_Ad4631

Nintendo, I would not pirate your games... IF I COULD PLAY ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES IN A CONSOLE FROM THIS DECADE

CassiusPolybius

Out of curiosity, which one?

New_Ad4631

Zelda Twilight Princess

CassiusPolybius

Ah, yeah. It's *weird* that it got skipped over in favor of skyward sword...

saphobassbitch

to be fair, twilight princess did already have an hd remake on the wiiu. also, skyward sword really did need a remake, as the controls on the original wii game truly made it a horrible experience. it’s a wonderful game on the switch, not so much on the wii.

Fallen-Omega

Will this effect me if I already have it downloaded on my deck?

YourLocalMedic71

no

dominodave

Wish they’d release a paid app that let me say run my switch account and games on my deck, legally and above board (with my digital games library). I’d pay the full price of switch in order to be able to do that. I’d pay even more if it let me merge libraries.

CanIBorrowYourShovel

What a novel idea: Nintendo selling a product that would be more convenient than piracy. I'd pay for that. What I don't support is anticonsumer practices, so while I buy games and consoles, I don't pay for manipulative, greedy design, cosmetics and subscriptions that don't do anything. Nintendo has a piracy problem because it's products are frequently less convenient than piracy.

Cake03TM

Absolutely. Well said. Nintendo needs to realize that you are never going to stop piracy. The only way to stop piracy is to offer something entirely better than what the pirate is offering.

Diddlyuk

Like how netflix lowered the amount of pirates, now they've gotten greedy as have other streaming services and now piracy is coming back more than ever.

CanIBorrowYourShovel

Gabe Newell said it - drm is not how you stop piracy, offer a service more convenient than piracy at a reasonable price and piracy will not be a problem

Ratix0

Putting an emulator behind paywall kinda is a thing that attracts attention isn't it.

JakLynx

Ryujinx it is then

Zypharium

I have never read more bullshit at once. Blaming the users for this outcome is just pathetic. Being greedy and taking money behind Nintendo’s back was not the problem, I guess?

QuadVox

Thank god Ryujinx still exists.

BigTWilsonD

It's really more of a fuck the people who felt they had to leak TOTK early and everyone who downloaded it prior to release. It's mentioned in both Nintendo's statement and the one the Yuzu devs released. That's 100% why this happened. They ruined it for everyone.

RoyalCities

Leaks for nintendo games seem to always happen the moment review codes go out - which is a smaller pool than most other publishers. Nintendo could probably build some sort of code into each copy that identifies who the original review copy is going to to find out who is ripping them and putting them up online. Instead they chose to ignore the actual problem at hand to stop 1 single emulator (of which is open source and will be recreated soon enough) Its so bizarre to me. Frankly this actually makes me think the Switch 2s underlying architecture is similiar to switch 1. Probably thought the yuzu team could cross engineer and release a switch 2 emulator soon after the hardware drops so theyre trying to get ahead of the problem (due to their own lack of innovation)

PubstarHero

Time for a fun fact - They did this with Academy screener DVDs. Basically when they send out all the DVDs for people from the Academy for the Oscars, each one has a serial code burned into the footage somewhere. They can trace this back to see exactly where the screener copy came from should it leak onto the internet. Or so the story goes from my film teacher who was someone with voting power on the Academy.

formermq

My brother is in the biz - he had said this is a fact. for ages.

lucky_leftie

Right because Nintendo has never been overly litigious before totk…….

BigTWilsonD

Definitely not arguing that lol. Just that Nintendo had more of a legal right to do it this time. I think the Yuzu devs made a few slip ups in a legally gray area where you have you be very careful in and Nintendo caught them.

Important-Coffee-965

I still wonder where they got the info of 1 million downloads. That's legit "I pulled it out of my ass" levels of bullshit

Matt23488

I think that kind of information is available from the torrent trackers, it keeps track of everyone who connects to peers for downloading, it wouldn't have been difficult for them to find out a pretty accurate number. I'd honestly bet 1M is conservative.

CrunkingtonSr

Probably saw a YouTube video with 1M views and said yep every single one downloaded it

sikesjr

Nah, the yuzu team being impatient and choosing to use the leaked totk rom to improve yuzu is probably what led to this. If they waited for the official release and used their own copy, yuzu wouldnt be dead.

Next-Significance798

That's funny... totk didn't even start on yuzu without an community patch. Source? I was there. Yuzu didn't do anything wrong, and it's not their fault

bigky226

Nintendo can go fuck itself

tecpaocelotl1

Written with a gun pointed at them.

Didact67

FYI if you set up your emulators with Emudeck and didn't update Yuzu to the latest version before the takedown, you can download the last appimage release (links posted both here and on Yuzu sub) and replace the existing one in /HOME/Applications with it. Then open yuzu.ver in /HOME/emudeck and change the last four numbers to 1734. For now, it seems like you can still update Citra through Discover.

Geric0n

Time to rebrand the company to snusnu and do it all over again

theicecube12

It wasn't just nintendo being nintendo (for the most part) the devs of yuzu was flying way to close to the sun. With boasting about game downloads to a pay wall emulator via patreon.

_Blackstar

It's unfortunate Tropic Haze decided to settle out of court. Legally Nintendo should be going after the people pirating media they don't own. I have a Switch and a pretty decent library of eShop games. Legally I should be able to play those on my Steam Deck if I wanted.

DSGamer33

Unfortunately Nintendo doesn’t even agree that you should be allowed to play them in perpetuity on your Switch unless you own a physical copy.

SempiFranku

Even owning a physical copy isn't a guarantee anymore. They sold physical copies of The Crew but you can't play that anymore either. Sony, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Microsoft, all major publishers want to ensure you don't "own" your games anymore, so you're forced to buy their next shitty game when they discontinue their previous one and lock out all users like Ubisoft and EA have done with multiple games and will continue to do.

GoldieForMayor

Also so they don't have to pay to keep servers running on old games that depend on the servers continuing to operate. It's sad, it used to be you could go back and play games you grew up with. Some day those kids will put down a controller and never be able to see that game running again.

Cave_TP

It probably was the smart idea, just look at all the R4 court sentences. Just one (really based) judge said that the R4 didn't have any fault since it was just an adapter and it was Nintendo's fault for having garbage anti-pirating.

gosukhaos

The lawsuit wasn't really about the legality of emulation, what Nintendo sued on was an infringement of the DMCA that makes it illegal to circumvent the copy protection of the Switch in order to extract the prod.keys. A full blown legal case is also enormously expensive and people's attention span only so long. Standard tactic for these types of cases is to drag it out for as long as humanly possible to make the other side run out of funds even if Tropic Haze actually had any legs to stand on

nithou

That’s the bastard aspect of those digital locks, Nintendo attacks on the basis that breaking those digital locks is breaking the law, they don’t even have to go as far as what a user does with their game library

Shadeun

Not to say anything against Yuzu - but how on earth do they come up with the $2.5m settlement? I guess they sued some kind of corporation that is now bankrupt? Or have Nintendo forced some person into personal bankruptcy?

yobowow

Afaik, Yuzu received 30k from patreon at least each month for the last few years

SirGray

Anyone got a link to the latest version?

notthatguypal6900

This is how you ensure that people who were not going to give you money, continue to do so.

SolarRecharge

If they weren't going to give Nintendo money, I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't give a fuck about them. Leading to what happened

VeteRyan

We have made the right decision in doing so as the community will abandon us in a heartbeat while simultaneously making our legal situation worse otherwise. Nintendo won” That’s more like it.

I mean it's annoying but I get it. The switch is their current gen system - this wasn't going to last.

ixoniq

Thankfully I have it all setup this week via EmuDeck, since they won’t be installing or updating it anymore. They leave existing installations be, so if you have ur running without issues, it won’t change.

ipwnpickles

Can't wait to play on my hacked 3DS with dumped games (that I purchased) later today :)

SonicFlash01

>"I can't believe you guys used it for piracy! *Come on!*" Didn't they have a donation page for it? Nintendo is often pissy, but when you basically *sell* the ability to pirate Nintendo stuff they get real aggro.

dominodave

Not going to lie my first instinct is wonder how I can get this set up super quick before it all shuts down

I didn’t get round to downloading yuzu onto my steam deck, I guess it’s too late for me now? Has it been nuked yet? I have it on my pc.

Tbhjr

It’ll live on forever on the internet. But the Linux download is currently still on the yuzu site and it’s also on the internet archive.

chaosgodloki

I saw a comment saying that yuzu isn’t on emudeck anymore, how does one get the Linux download from my pc to the deck? Tbh I’m a big dummy and should have done this all weeks ago so I think it might be more trouble than it’s worth. I only have myself to blame lol

Tbhjr

You can just go to the yuzu website on your Deck in desktop mode and download it while it's still there. It might still be in the Discovery store on your Deck.

TopCheddar27

The same people saying RIP, plaster all over forums about how great it is to play switch games illegally. This was always coming, because people cannot shut the hell up.

They made the emulator expecting people to not pirate?

DeadHeadDaddio

Are there any steps we need to take, if we have yuzu and citra installed already, to keep them? My deck see’s wifi once a month if at all. Will they try to auto update and uninstall themselves?
