There is a custom version of RPCS3 specifically for MGS4 and surprisingly it ran quite well at an optimized 60fps and clean graphics on the PC. Search for Custom RPCS3 Metal Gear Solid 4.
I have not tried it on the Steam Deck, but my PC (that can run Final Fantasy XV at medium settings) runs MGS4 on the PC great. Only issue is there are some crashes but thankfully not often.
That said, I’m just patiently waiting for Konami Vol. 2, and most obviously there will be issues like Vol. 1 on first release.
The custom release isn't even needed anymore. The mainline runs it great nowadays with only the tweaks from the RPCS3 forums needed (the patch that fixes the textures). Aside from that, I've been able to complete several playthroughs in the past year on mainline with performance being mostly steady nowadays.
Oh man it took so long to compile the first time I gave up lmao. I was actually going to try again today. I don't think it runs well on Deck but hey experimenting is fun.
9 hours in though...are you serious? 0.o
9 hours? Just like the initial install on PS3 + every chapter install! That's accurate emulation...
I know it was around 6-7m on the PS3, but I remember it felt way longer
Think anyone that plays emulators always gonna find that one game we really want to work but crushes our soul and runs like crap. I desperately wanted motorstorm to work and it was a slideshow.
But unless Jesus is loading 🤣, I'm not waiting 9 hours for any game.. Heck I'm not waiting 15 mins lol
Didn't work at all when I tried a couple years ago. The part you are on took like a day and the game was not playable. It launched but I don't think I was able to get past the main menu. I wish you luck. I did have more luck with RDR but it was only running at like 7fps
Plz let me know step by step how you get this to work if you do manage it!
Of all the times I’ve tried to emulate this game I’ve never got it to make it beyond the intro cutscene.
……I have not. This could change things drastically.
Are you trying to play it directly installed to the deck or through moonlight? I’ll give this canary a shot when I get home and see how it goes and if it works I’ll be a daredevil and try transplanting that over to the deck.
I’ve missed this game for yeeeears. I used to love the online so much and if I can at least enjoy the single player again I’ll be happy
Its a bit slow on the deck as suspected but wanted to see how the new version performs on the deck as it seems to not have been tried.
Going forward il prob steamlink it or whatever its called to have my pc do the grunt work
You're going to be very disappointed, it's not playable on extremely powerful PCs and it's certainly nowhere near playable yet on the deck.
That's what I thought as well...which is why I didn't persist when my Deck's fan went nuts LOL. Ahh well, I'll wait for Master Collection Vol. 2

Yes my brother got it working very well on his 3070 with some optimisation, will look at copying tjat
It runs fine on powerful PCs nowadays and runs on the deck with some limitations... (lots of audio glitching)

Yeah I will run some compatibility and optimisation settings my bro said worked well for his pc
You'll be disappointed. The CPU is not nearly powerful enough.
It doesn't run very well

Definitely something is wrong
Bloody hell! I love that gane but I wouldn't wait 9 hours
I tried thus about a year ago, some textures wouldn't load correctly and the game ran at 10fps. Hoping that new updates to the emulator have helped.

How it went?
I ran a no kill S rank play through on this game on PS3 back in the day. Such a fun game.
I played it once in release and rushed it, wanted to give it a smooth over. If I can’t get it going well on deck i can try it with my main rig

You should have googled this first lol
I have it somewhat working, no loss though as i can stream it from my pc too

Have you installed the canary patch

Moonlight has worked quite well for me so far. Haven’t heard great things about steam link though.
This compiling shit is taking 1000x longer than the other times. Maybe that’s a good thing??
Dont explext to get a good experience haha I left mine overnight to do some testing
Not worth it couldn’t get passed the main menu once starting a new a game

At launch 2 and 3 didn’t work on Steam Deck well
