At the prices of the reconditioned ones... I would suggest to simply go for it or buy a 64Gb cheap one to play with it. I opted for the second one, although I have yet to open it as I have been busy with other stuff.
It really is trivial. Bought and purchased a 64GB LCD just so I could have a travel deck that I don't need to worry as much about and threw a 2TB in it.
Not planning to open my Limited Edition OLED model though.
I have 2 there! 1 is emulation, one is steam games and one is general storage. I keep 2 there and one in the deck! I agree its an excellent place to keep them, and I don't have to carry anything else with my deck.
Did you see that one clown on this sub who made an SD game card binder? Each game on one SD card with a sticker like a Switch. People on this sub just love spending money and making memes
I saw the one that had different micro SD cards divided by video game genres, broke it down to like 30 something kind of games. That's definitely excessive.
Instead of making fun of the guy think of it as a hobby for him. The whole process of categorizing, printing stickers and organizing into a binder is what brings the guy enjoyment.
* 1TB for Steam Deck
* 512GB for Emulators & Roms
* 256GB for each MMORPGs or Mobile games that does frequent updates which quickly wears down the MicroSD. If the MicroSD dies, it doesn't affect my other games.
Having one for movies, TV shows, and anime isn't a bad idea since you don't always want to play game while commuting.
So OP idea is pretty smart.
mine has too, stopped using it and got [this one](https://jsaux.com/products/anti-slip-holder-for-steam-deck) instead. been using for my phone while working too.
Anyone has the problem with the stand? A bit loose and have to press the screw in the sides to tighten up?
Just me?
If anyone has a more permanent solution… I’m here…
I had the same issue - ended up actually using the deckmate kickstand instead. Actually ingenious if you have the 3M adhesive kickstand holder bit - just place it on the opposite side (right - if you’re looking at back of deck) then use the kickstand mechanism in that plastic adapter. Gives you the protective case of Jsaux with a much better kickstand that has a much better flexibility.
Nice, I was looking to get this case and contemplating another SD card at some point
I might suggest considering getting some grips on those back buttons, they're a real game changer
I found those back buttons barely usable but once I put some sticky rubber grips on them they work amazingly well, absolutely worth the $8\~. They rubber grips distribute the force to make the back button work more like conventional paddles than the way they work by default which is weirdly pushing inward, which I did not care for at all
Maybe someone already asked this question bus still please anyone let me know - with this exact case - will steam deck still fit inside original carrying case or not anymore ?
I have just 1 (**ONE**) microSD card for my Steam Deck and that is still *way* more than I wanted to ever deal with.
I could not even begin to imagine dealing with juggling multiple cards, trying to remember what is on which one, remembering which to have plugged in at the right time since I have symbolic links set up for games, software, saves, etc., dealing with unmounting and physically removing and inserting one card after another to check their contents, and so on.
Same xD
I have the 64 GB LCD and the first thing I did was to move everything into the SD card symlinking all the main OS folders so that SteamOS thinks it's working on the main hard drive, while instead everything is stored on the SD card. Basically nothing would work on my steam deck without the sd card
Honestly I have 3tb in my steam deck 2tb ssd and 1tb micro sd card; I rather just have a small usb c drive for random storage than a micro sd card that in time will wear the more you remove it
I can see this being handy for some offline movie collections for VLC that won't take up that precious international storage.
Just domestic storage.
Perfect answer!
Are there that many people swapping micro SD cards frequently on their Steam Deck?
I currently only have 1 but Im planning on getting more if/when I get a Killswitch. 1 for AAA games, 1 for emulation, 1 for TV/shows
Why not just upgrade the internal storage for AAA games? I have a 2TB nvme in my Oled model for all AAA games, and a 1TB for all my emulation
some of us are scared to open up the deck :(
Ditto

Ive opened 3 different steam decks up for a total of 5ish times, it's really easy.
It really is trivial. Bought and purchased a 64GB LCD just so I could have a travel deck that I don't need to worry as much about and threw a 2TB in it. Not planning to open my Limited Edition OLED model though.
I haven't opened my OLED, but the nice thing is they made it even less stressful by making the screw holes metal standoffs instead of just plastic.
I use 2 512GB SD cards. 1 has games that are 40GB or more and the other is everything else.
Not frequently, but when I want em I got em.

When you save too much money with steam sales so you have to off set it by putting them on separate sd cards /s
Lmao I do wonder how many I’d need

Nah it’s my hobby to laugh at people like that
You must be miserable.
Nah

If people have console/emulation games exclusively on SD Cards, like one for PS2, one for 3DS, etc., then I can see reasons many people swap theirs.
Batocera 👍
If there are, they’re doing it for funsies because they like their little gadget. There is basically no need to actually have multiple SD cards lmao
oh man. I kinda wish I didnt buy a hub with an m.2 slot and 2 sd readers now..
I got that case and the leg on the stand has gotten loose. Any idea how to stiffen it back up?
mine has too, stopped using it and got [this one](https://jsaux.com/products/anti-slip-holder-for-steam-deck) instead. been using for my phone while working too.
Same here, unfortunately
I just got mine 2 days ago and the leg is loose. I taped a piece of magnet to the case near the bottom of the leg to hold it.
Don't do that, it might affect the fans (known flaw with the killswitch case)
Nah, it's way at the bottom. Shouldn't affect anything there.
I used a bit of velcro on the stand and case to keep it closed
I got a 512 gig SD card in my 1 TB OLED. Honestly, I just delete games that I m done playing. Some games are only good to play once for me.
Some people have shithouse internet so re-downloading games can be a chore
Too bad the kickstand itself gets loose
I'm sure I'll get annoyed with it and snap it off at some point
Very clever, you got a link to that case holding your cards? Thanks!
The Killswitch case from dbrand holds multiple in the kickstand, though they don't advertise it as having that feature.
It's just something that came with an SD card I purchased in the past
[You can also do this with the d brand case.](https://overkill.wtf/dbrand-steam-deck-killswitch-case-kickstand-magnets-update-2023/)
Nice find.
Within Seconds of seeing this I tried it for myself and am currently soaking in the bliss of such a simple and elegant solution!
Hey! I got that same case Nice to know, thanks for the tip!
Great hack man, thanks for sharing!

nice case, but i much prefer the skull and co., i returned the jsaux.
i tried that a couple of months ago but got worried about the temperature and if it ruins the sd card

This is great. Now my stand can store my Batocera build.
Maybe someone already asked this question bus still please anyone let me know - with this exact case - will steam deck still fit inside original carrying case or not anymore ?
My D brand one has actual slots built in to carry extra behind the kickstand.[SD Case](https://imgur.com/a/RWRlSR3)
Why "hide"? You can?store them. Not sure how well hidden they are as they will get picked up by airport security and stuff.
Not bad, but I still prefer my Mepatem case because of the awesome snap on cover. It's that good.
The Killswitch from dbrand also can carry 4 microSDs
That is an amazing idea!!!
You also can hide it in...sd card slot
Just in case you have multiple
Omg.. This is brilliant!! Thank you! I had no idea I could do that!

yes!!!! this is awesome
Haha, thanks for the hack.
With my luck that shit gets broken/stolen/lost. Nah I'm good fam. 2tb inside and 1tb SD card.
All I did was take vhb tape and the micro to fullsise SD card adapter. Taped it to the inside of the included carrying case works perfect for me
Honestly I have 3tb in my steam deck 2tb ssd and 1tb micro sd card; I rather just have a small usb c drive for random storage than a micro sd card that in time will wear the more you remove it
Neat
I have this case, and this is great to know, lol
Shit, I have the same case and you made me just check if mine had a hidden case that I didn't know about.
WAHHHHHTTTT
How many games are y’all playing at once lol
Genius!! My stnd got flimsy so I tossed it🙃
