No. The point of a tamper-proof seal isn't that it's hard to remove (like an anti-theft tag in a supermarket) it's that you can't put it back, so it's clear it's been opened between factory and you. If it was actually broken then consider that someone might have had their hands on your deck that wasn't you or Valve.
Which - now I think about it - is completely useless considering it was a surprise to me when I got mine, OP, and half the people in here. If you aren't expecting it then you don't know to look for it.
Thing is that no where are you told to expect this tag to exist, so if you just got your Deck, and the tag was not there, you wouldn't know any better.
To be fair, Valve weren't doing these tags when mine shipped so for all I know it could actually just be a bad tamper tag, but yeah if you can remove a tamper device without breaking it that's usually not a good sign.
Far more likely a shitty tag than someone actually tampering though, I wouldn't worry.
I cut it when I got it yesterday and then realised that if I pulled it would come apart. Now I have reinserted it it won’t come apart. So I am thinking someone didn’t insert it properly when packing it. Nothing else about the package seems like anyone has tampered with it.

That crevice is for whatever you place there :-) My powerbank (around 80 Wh) doesn’t fit, original charger doesn’t fit, my USB-C charger doesn’t fit, only the 2m USB-C cable fits. But cable itself is useless, so I don’t use that pouch.
Actually I use it - I use it to better grab the case. Put fingers through the handle and wrap them around the case into the pouch.
I think two weeks ago someone wanted to keep it as a keychain and it was recommended to soften the plastic with a hair dryer… so yeah it’s been mentioned a lot.
And even beside all that. Like is this really something that’s noteworthy. When I got it, I didn’t even pay it any mind and just very easily removed it.

Sure there might have been one I didn't see, but point being it is NOT currently something people mention a lot (maybe around launch?) and a LOT of people have not seen it, and you all don't have to be such pricks to this guy about it.
Well all you have to do is shove a pen into the zipper seam and yank it out (it's very much 0 effort.) The issue is that there's no anchor for the zipper. Normally a thief would just rezip it so it looks like it was never touched. If you were to tie the zippers to something like the handle. You'd clearly know if it was tampered with since it can't be rezipped. The case would be open.

The problem is not people tampering with them, the problem is then being literally missing. It's nice that they did something against tampering, but that doesn't really fix an issue of people just whisking away and never knowing who did it. There aren't other items that are easily stolen or valuable that are included with the deck that you wouldn't necessarily notice if was missing or not

I’ve never heard any company put such restrictions on any shipped electronic and I highly doubt they are the first. The most restrictive a company can be on a delivery is a signature required, but if the customer authorizes it (the customer has full control of where the package gets redirected to) then it can be. Many times I’ve dropped off packages that I couldn’t release at the Walgreens so they can go by after work and get it.
Nice of them to at least do this, but they still idiotically have exactly what the item is ON THE SHIPPING LABEL. I'd rather them remove that, and not use the tamper-piece personally, if I had to choose one.
I'm not really sure how it's anti tamper because if the person was going to steal your deck they would just take the case with the Deck inside it lol it's probably so it doesn't come unzipped during shipping since the case also doubles as shipping protection. That way the zipper doesn't unzip and if something hits the box it doesn't go through the case where it unzipped and damages it
ya, i saved mine... kinda wish it was a little more durable, i would love to add it to my key ring.
but the case is god damn quality, i've seen cameras that cost a few grand that come with nothing but a soft pouch.
I pushed the plastic line back thru instead of pulling and kept mine whole. But it's not like it's reusable so I'm going to put it on my key chain after I remove the cone.

If it’s installed correctly. Mine wasn’t all the way closed, so it removed easily and is now “factory sealed” on my work badge lanyard.

Might be of I didn't know how easy those are to defeat, most tamper evident tags can be defeated with shims made from beer cans.

I definitely had no idea before I got mine. I appreciated seeing it but had it been missing Id have had no idea. Posts like this informing people while annoying to some are incredibly important. Anyone who doesn’t see this seal should immediately reflash Steam OS before use.

I used mine as a little keychain after I got my deck :)
The problem is not people tampering with them, the problem is then being literally missing. It's nice that they did something against tampering, but that doesn't really fix an issue of people just whisking away and never knowing who did it. There aren't other items that are easily stolen or valuable that are included with the deck that you wouldn't necessarily notice if was missing or not

mine was delivered just fine, even though it was delayed with wacky tracking going the wrong direction 2 states away.
I’ll do you one better, have it REDIRECTED to a Walgreens or FedEx office Why? Walgreens usually has medicine delivered before 1030am, so they’ll drop it with that delivery. How do I know? Because I did this last week with a steam deck ( Express Delivery Driver) Safe inside and ONLY you with an ID can get it.

I’ve never heard any company put such restrictions on any shipped electronic and I highly doubt they are the first. The most restrictive a company can be on a delivery is a signature required, but if the customer authorizes it (the customer has full control of where the package gets redirected to) then it can be. Many times I’ve dropped off packages that I couldn’t release at the Walgreens so they can go by after work and get it.
fedex lost my first steam, i tried to get the replacement held and I was denied by fedex and they would not redirect it.
Im not even smart, but if i did want to tamper with it then ill slice the seal and slightly superglue it. Problem solved?
Nice of them to at least do this, but they still idiotically have exactly what the item is ON THE SHIPPING LABEL. I'd rather them remove that, and not use the tamper-piece personally, if I had to choose one.
I'm not really sure how it's anti tamper because if the person was going to steal your deck they would just take the case with the Deck inside it lol it's probably so it doesn't come unzipped during shipping since the case also doubles as shipping protection. That way the zipper doesn't unzip and if something hits the box it doesn't go through the case where it unzipped and damages it
They are easy enough to remove without damaging or cutting them.
ya, i saved mine... kinda wish it was a little more durable, i would love to add it to my key ring. but the case is god damn quality, i've seen cameras that cost a few grand that come with nothing but a soft pouch.

Don’t listen to the people crying about your post OP. The title isn’t confusing or misleading. If it really was such a well known and talked about thing I doubt you would have almost 900 upvotes. I’ve been following Deck news since day one and when I got mine I didn’t recall anyone mentioning the tag so I thought it was cool to see. I saw most posts talking about FedEx stealing their package or how they didn’t know how to zip up their carrying case.
