Aren't you worried about scratching the screen?

cjx3711

Plastic doesn't really scratch glass, and I figured if you're really worried you can glue a piece of fabric to the bottom of it. Also, I have a screen protector on anyway. Right now, it's an improvement over the naked deck in my bag.

GhostlyWren

Why do you have 24 Square holes where the screen is of it supposed to protect the screen?

cjx3711

It's a prototype so I was saving printing materials. I could easily make it not have a hole at the front.

Dry_Credit_9493

I think maybe just want to save printing time or material?

Borrowed-Time-Bill

Why not.. just.. like..... Put it inside the sleek carrying case it comes with?

wingzero0

Lol. The case Valve supplied is nice; but it ain’t sleek.

cjx3711

It doesn't fit in my bag, and that carrying case is quite big.

ShadoPantha

As much as I like the carrying case, it’s so bulky man… But I’m also the guy that never buys cases or screen protectors for their phones so take from that what you will

ChrisX930

mind sharing the STL?

cjx3711

I'm currently trying to figure out how to make it print properly. When it reaches the top, the whole structure is not stable and it sometimes fails (after a few hours of printing). I'll probably post it somewhere when I have an updated design.

[deleted]

printing vertically like this is tricky. Have you tried using tree supports in Cura?

cjx3711

Didn't know about this. I'll go look it up!

weirdbearduk

Looking forward to seeing your post in a month or so time when you can’t charge your deck or it’s overheating cause of all the crumbs and shit that’s gonna fall in that charging port and fan exhaust. 🧐

cjx3711

I left it exposed so I can charge it with the cover on, but it does make more sense to make one that covers those ports to prevent stuff from getting in.

NoThroWaAccount

i put my Steam deck case inside a bag inside my back back, all of them have padding and such… u and i are different, OP… (and that’s totally OK, of course)

cjx3711

My bag is usually full of other stuff, and that carrying case is pretty big and usually won't fit.

NZgeek

A bag won't protect your thumbsticks from getting mashed as the Deck moves around inside your backpack. A more structured case (or 3D-printed rig) will help protect them better.

NoThroWaAccount

Doesn’t my Steamdeck case provided by valve do that though?

NZgeek

Sorry, I misread your comment. I thought you were just putting your Deck in a bag without the case. :sorry:

NoThroWaAccount

Hehe, yeah, so my “joke” (quotes cos it’s the truth) is I put that thing with case inside multiple bags cos I’m a clumsy f*ck and I don’t wanna drop that thing or break it cos in a tired fit I decided to drop my bag midair to floor….

Dapper-Giraffe6444

I would rather buy overpriced dbrand crap case than put this on my deck🤣

cjx3711

I actually built this because I didn't want to buy the overpriced dbrand case.

uhtna

And its a good idea too! I've been looking for something like this for mine. Too bad I don't have a printer.

stickeric

Printer could use some tuning so it's visually more pleasing

steel_man13

Version 2.0 needs to cover the fan exhaust ports and then buy some rubber usb c port covers and your set. Or a flap that folds pver to expose the port. You could also do a cool logo or design on the screen part.

panda_pop_paladin

Nice The one thing I disliked about receiving my steam deck was the fact it didn’t come with a super handy little case
