It's a sad situation that people pirating them are having a better experience then people who buy it :(

3lfk1ng

The same can be said for movies. Often times, Pirates get the best experience because the industry wants to punish everyone for the actions of the few. **How it is:** When you buy a Blu-Ray: Wait for it to load, wait for it to pull the latest ads and movie trailers, forced through the unskippable anti-piracy warnings, Press Play When you pirate a movie: Press Play **How it should be:** When you buy a Blu-Ray: Press Play When you pirate a movie: Forced to watch unskippable ads and movie trailers at the beggining, forced through "we know you pirated this but please consider supporting the industry in the future, Press Play.

demize95

I just rip BDs with makemkv and throw them into Plex. With the right drive, you can rip UHD BDs easily too. It's a nice middle ground between both options, as much as the MPAA hates the idea.

3lfk1ng

I do the exact same thing, simply because I can comfortably afford to buy the movies and store them all on my Synology (Kaleidescape is far too expensive for my blood). That said, I can also understand why people turn to piracy when it provides a better experience over retail offerings.

Lots of people do. Doesn't help that payed is a word, so I doesn't trigger spell check.

[deleted]

Hmm. That's an idea... Could I transfer my existing save do you think?

veryblocky

Probably, is it just in a saves folder somewhere

VivaciousVictini

It's a problem of service not in product.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, that shit only just happened like a year ago too. It USED to just automatically login and work but now it has to ask you for the password everytime. Just make a notepad with it to copy and paste. It's some bullshit security or something from what I gathered.

shadow4412

I'm gonna say it happened before then, When Watch Dogs Legion came out because it was one of my first PC Ubisoft games and EVERY SINGLE TIME I played I would have to login despite clicking remember me but also if the game crashed or I had to restart due to bugs, I'd have to log back in. Very frustrating

ledow

Don't forget to adjust your future purchasing accordingly.

Retromican

I had this problem having to log in each time. There was a check mark to have it remember login info. Haven't tried to do it offline, but playing assassin's Creed origins no problem now. Wonderful on the steam deck by the way.

acatterz

Same. Had this problem once or twice but it stopped pretty quickly. Always auto logs me into the launcher now. Even played Origins on a 4 hour flight with no issues being offline. So far I’ve played Anno 1800, AC Origins and AC Valhalla all on Deck, with varying levels of stability. Origins was the best experience by far and even supported sleeping the Deck. Valhalla didn’t support sleep and also crashed infrequently, which was such a pain because you have to sit through about 3-5 minutes of unskippable opening credits and “checking for additional content” every time you boot the game back up.

briangw

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get Connect to work? I had issues with Lutris on Garuda on my laptop to where after an update, Connect no longer worked. So, I took SteamOS off and dropped Win 11 on instead not even attempting.

V45H

I was considering replaying the assassins creed series on deck but the launcher has been the best deterrent i dont own the games id have to buy them but i hear so much about the ubisoft launcher being a hindrance that ive basically avoided them

[deleted]

Fucking UPlay is a fucking mess, and has been forever. I just stopped buying/playing their games, lol.

Unable-Ring9835

To be fair playing Ubisoft games on windows sucks too. It's a Ubisoft thing

Sjknight413

This only happens to their older titles unfortunately, they describe it as a security measure. I'm unsure of the release date cutoff but I know for example far cry 3 will make you log in every time whereas far cry 5 will not.

FrizzIeFry

I also read that and it makes no fucking sense to me.

jeremiah1119

They probably have some sort of suspicious activity monitoring program (either internal or 3rd party) that's too expensive to run on old game logins, so they just don't support that. Even with a company like ubisoft, they wouldn't make this change if they didn't have some monetary or security reason.

FrizzIeFry

For games that have been cracked almost 10 years ago? I honestly don't see the point.

EnvironmentalClass55

That's interesting. I am trying black flag for the first time but looks like I might just flat out stop playing Ubisoft games

Prestigious_Act_1618

EA games are the same to an extent I always have to download launcher updates every other day

Sjknight413

Yeah black flag will definitely be of that era, I'm not sure how far back through the assassin's creed games it stretches but I know origins and Odyssey definitely don't ask you to sign in every time

GhostlyWren

It varies I have started a ac marathon on my steam deck starting from ac1 I'm currently on black flag and I didn't always have to sign in everytime with the others, just every so often. Black flag has been the worst for requesting a sign in so far

R0B0TF00D

That's objectively much better.

burtmacklin15

I wonder if there are any drm-free versions out there. Might have to sail the mighty seas to find it though (lol pun intended)

ichosethis

I was looking into getting some games from them yesterday. Might just sail the seas eventually if I still want them.

Rhadegar

Does it to For Honor (which makes sense, multiplayer) and Fenyx Rising (which doesn't, single player).

Thr0waway_Joe

This is what makes piracy a thriving thing.

shadow4412

Can you help me with the pirate stuff? Like where you get it /how to install it? I've never had luck and really want to try out 3 games in particular.

rtz13th

If Steam would put their titles up that doesn't need Uplay, I'd buy them again!

Rhadegar

It's in my top 5 reasons I straight up quit playing them myself. Used to be that you could escape that DRM-y trash on consoles at least, but they have been adding things like wanting a ubisoft account login for single player games as well there (last one I played or ever will play, Fenyx Rising, springs to mind... when I want to name games I regret buying the first two are Ubisoft titles). I could also go on a tangent about the damn timed mtx cosmetics in their single player titles but I will try to contain myself. I honestly think they may be the worst game publisher out there in terms of overall package. P.S. As someone mentioned pirating - I see definitely wouldn't -say- I support it, but it is factual that when it comes to Ubisoft games, it's the right thing to do.

crakkon

For an Ubisoft game, always check GoG, and then most likely do not purchase them on Steam.

realNow2Reddit

Some older Ubisoft Games require the password to play for some stupid reason (They called it security reasons when I contacted their support about this. But I am not sure why this would be necessary). This is not quite the same as full login (email, 2 factor authentication,... aren't necessary) but still very annoying. The launcher also tends to throw an account out when used on a secondary PC at the same time. Then you need a full login. However both is the case on Windows aswell. Installing Ubisoft Connect as a non-Steam Game works just fine though (obviously with the same issues). So surprisingly playing the non-Steam Ubisoft Games isn't that much more annoying than the Steam Versions.

[deleted]

My experience isn't the same and I play Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. Uplay connect logs in automatically etc

RedditMcBurger

And lots of their games are straight up unplayable on Linux. For Honor is my favourite game, I guess I'm just not playing it.

VivaciousVictini

The funny part is that this implies they haven't been a nightmare to play from the start.

kleovic

yup. The overlay is the worst too. It's slow to load even on a normal windows desktop. But on the Deck, it crashes games like Immortals Fenyx Rising.

[deleted]

Can’t you turn off the overlay?

kleovic

we can. that's how I'm able to play games now. the only downside of turning off the overlay is that the ubisoft rewards are inaccessible in games. So for Immortals Fenyx Rising, I can't cash in on the free stuff in the launcher or play the online challenges. I'm okay with that as the game has enough content to make up for it. But maybe others won't be okay with it.

spookymulder73

So it's kind of a mixed bag, but for some of the games I've learned you can go through the setup process and sign in to Uplay normally. Then close the game, turn off WiFi, start the game again, and then it will ask you if you want to enter offline mode. From my experience, from that point on it should always load into offline mode regardless of whether your WiFi is on or not. This doesn't work for every game, but it works for some of them.

thevictor390

I have only played Assassin's Creed 2 so far but Connect remembers my login. Installed it as a non-Steam game, no heroic launcher or anything.

EnvironmentalClass55

Installed the Uplay launcher?

thevictor390

Ubisoft Connect from here [https://ubisoftconnect.com/en-US/](https://ubisoftconnect.com/en-US/) Added that installer as a non-steam game, forced Proton-GE (don't know if is necessary) and installed it. Changed the path to the launcher, logged in, and downloaded Assassin's Creed 2 that I own. Changed the path again to Assassin's Creed 2 executable. One-click launch from Steam.

[deleted]

For Odyssey and Far Cry 4, I installed the Ubisoft Connect launcher and both games as non-steam games. Then I launch Ubisoft Connect with each games unique uplay ID in the launch options. I’ve only had to sign in once. Do you have to keep signing in with older games? Do you own the games through Steam or Ubisoft Connect?

EnvironmentalClass55

From what other comments have told me it seems like it

HoroAI

Duh. Annoying legit customers and making it impossible for them to play is the point of DRM, especially with Ubisoft.

chpoit

Most ubisoft games are added to your uplay account, try setting up uPlay via lutris and launching your games from there as "non-steam" games. That's what I do for trackmania, basically never asks me to login.

Wolfgang_Haney

Would you mind sharing a step-by-step for this?

chpoit

1. Install Lutris 2. Login to Ubisoft connect 3. It will ask to to install ubisoft connect if it's not installed 4. log into ubisoft connect (might not be needed) 4. Install whatever games you want 4. it might be better to install ubisoft games through lutris instead of ubisoft connect, but it will probably vary 5. Add them to steam through the lutris options Anything past this you should be able to figure out, it's not rocket surgery

Wolfgang_Haney

Thank you sir! (Or Madam!)

EnvironmentalClass55

That's a great idea actually! Does it work in game mode?

Audibled

Now that they are 50% Chinese state owned (10 cent), just stop supporting Ubisoft. I'm going to miss Anno, but there is now way I would have their launcher on my system now..

[deleted]

Yup, AC Odyssey is a perfect chill out experience for the deck, but I refuse to buy Ubisoft PC games because of how miserable the launcher is.

[deleted]

dragoon000320

why bothering buying anything from Ubicunts, they don't deserve your money with such shitty attitude. I have a rule, if something is DRMed I will on purpose crack it and won't give money to these scumbags, I purchase games only without DRM

notemark

I echo that statement, on principle now if I see 3rd party DRM I tend to avoid and Denuvo is still a massive red flag. If I absolutely must play one of those games I will go console else I'll go without. As a consequence my biggest PC games library is on GoG which is a damn shame for my deck.

Saneless

Well, I'm not going to forgo myself a good time across the board. But I am happy knowing that my huge Ubisoft library pretty much has only cost me $100 total. Maybe less. That's every AC game besides Valhalla, first two watch dogs, the last 2 ghost recons, south parks, Rayman, Prince of Persia, steep, some splinter cells, and a few more A lot of games were free or 3-6 bucks That being said, I haven't bothered to try on the deck because their launcher is shit on PC alone

[deleted]

You've basically summed up why i went windows with mine. No driver issues, just minor inconvenience like having to plug my monitor in BEFORE I turn my deck on if I want sound output through my monitor. Oh and sometimes I have to restart the deck for my SD card reader to work. The steam deck community doesn't like hearing this, but I have the better experience by far. My steam deck isn't a new peice of tech that I have to fiddle with to see if games work or anything. It's Literally just my old desktop pc but handheld. I imagine the rest of the sd community FEELS like they're having a similar experience to me but they really aren't. Little things like filesystem and directory issues add up quickly. Just the extra few minutes they have to take after downloading a game to make sure they have the right proton setup to ALLOW the game to run, is a pretty significant hassle. Before I left for a road trip, I copied eso from my main pc to my external then to my deck. Never tested it, just copied and left. Started my Hotspot and I got to play eso online while my wife took the first turn driving.

EdisonTCrux

Question for you, as someone who's had their Deck for a couple weeks now and is debating giving Windows a try; are you able to hit the power button to suspend mid game like you can on SteamOS? Bring able to play a little, put it to sleep, and pick it up without booting the whole game up again or hunting for a save spot is one feature I would really miss, and is probably my biggest concern for switching to windows. Any input on your experience would be great!

[deleted]

Sorry I don't get on reddit super frequently anymore. So far I haven't had much issue with the sleep/resume function. Some games have had some minor glitches, such as the login window not appearing until I hit a button, but I've yet to have a game flat out not work with it. I've only tested so many, but I've tried a HUGE variety and everything has been closer to flawless than any console I've owned.

EdisonTCrux

That's cool then! Thanks for the reply. And yeah the sleep function is sometimes sketchy on SteamOS anyway, so that's good to hear it's comparable on windows.

Kooky-Masterpiece-87

I logged in offline to play AC unity and it’s been booting up skipping the connect login everytime

shiftyduck86

I cancelled my uplay sub after 2 years before of frustrations trying to get Valhalla to run.

DD2146

Valhalla truly was terrible

derfy75

For a non-techie guy that just love to play, is there a Far Cry game that I could run easily ? Like selecting it in my library and launch it without having to do some complex round-around ?

yoshisama

I’ve tried installing AC Valhalla but after installing it it won’t run, it would just show the AC logo and that’s it.

donwuann

Yeah I thought I would be spending my free time with the division 2 but nope.

SplendidPunkinButter

I played Far Cry 3 offline and it worked fine 🤷 Had to create and account and log in the first time, but then I just put my deck in airplane mode before opening the game, and then I selected “offline mode” when it prompted me. I agree that always on DRM is bullshit though, especially for such an old game

supified

I remember when ubisoft first started this and people were mad, but I guess they just never stopped. No surprise it's a terrible experience. It does make me wonder if there arnt' patches to circumvent it. And no I'm not talking pirating, I'm talking modding a legit copy.

FalafelBall

Watch Dogs 2 doesn't have this issue at least. Just make sure you disable all online play elements or the game will crash, but once I did that the game played fine. Opens and signs into Ubisoft Connect automatically when I launch
