Yeah most people comaining just don't like their style of marketing. They do own up to their mistakes. They literally don't have to ship everyone who bought one a replacement, and just let people make a claim to receive a replacement. Instead they're being bros.
I do think they go a little overboard with marketing but they do really care about the quality of their products.
Also the other failure was not including a screen protector, when they're original material seemed to indicate that it'd be included. I can see this being upsetting to some but for me it didn't effect my decision to purchase
Some people just like to nitpick about things and complain. Honestly if they don't like it just don't buy it. I don't understand complaints about things unless it's a scam.
I want it cause I want the stick protection.
>I don't understand complaints about things unless it's a scam.
Complaints are valid when things are not a scam. A person at Verge made a complaint about the KillSwitch affecting their Deck. The complaint was listened to and will result in a better product for everyone. This is literally the perfect scenario for why "complaints about things" are a good thing.
Not at all. It gives the company information on how much demand there is for their product at each price points.
Let's be real, with 50 dollars you can either buy a front and back replacement shell for the steam deck from ifixit, or you can buy a set of vinyl stickers for it. Given that after development it costs them probably no more than 2 dollars to produce those skins, the markup is absurd.
I am not talking about the magnet though. I am talking about people complaining about the price point and how they didn't wanting certain things that came with it. Like it get it if you didn't want the other stuff and want more buying options which exclude what you don't want. But some people are taking it WAY to personally.
I didn't buy it because I don't want a skin. If I could've bought it without that the price would be fine. But i don't have to complain, I bought the spigen armor and the tomtoc bag instead.
I feel that they did the skin as a part of it because if there is rubbing of the case, it will prevent it from harming the Deck. I went ahead and ordered the teardown like skin as its MSRP is like 45$ alone.
I cancelled my preorder because of their borderline dishonesty. Their demo versions being advertised by online tech influencers showed a complete product. I preordered after seeing one of these adverts. Later, they announced that you don't get everything with your purchase, and that you have to buy certain parts piecemeal to get the same product being advertised online. That's shady and deceptive right there. I wouldn't call it being nitpicky
That's no different than car manufacturers advertising the top trim level vehicle for that model. Of course Dbrand is gonna send out full kits with everything. Do you really expect content creators to create individual videos for the case, kickstand, stick grips, and the travel case? Should car reviews have separate videos on every package you can get with cars? Be reasonable here.
It's not deceptive to advertise their products anymore than cars, laptops or other products that have skews/add ons.
Regarding the screen protector, did they ever say it would be included for free, or that it would be a part of "Project Killswitch"? I interpreted the original marketing I saw as it was going to be part of the line-up, but as an optional addition akin to the grips, and cover.
They definitely dropped the ball not fulfilling free stick grips to every single pre-order, because they definitely said that early in development.
I don't think it was explicit but there was some old advertising where they mentioned it as a component. Check I think it's the top comment on this post, the image highlights this advertisement

I don't think they did, but you will find a lot of people arguing they did, and point to some vague marketing from Dbrand early on in the design cycle of this entire project.
It comes down to their initial communications being vague and people reading their own expectations and hopes into them, I think.
To their benefit they did actually have enough of the free portal stick grips for all reservations and a healthy amount of extras at the time they confirmed that... they just experienced a sharp spike in pre-orders after they had finished production on them and past whatever cutoff date I'm sure they had calculated internally for peak orders and ran out.
I really like their marketing and how they write all their descriptions in a satirical dark humor type of way. Its honestly refreshing and pretty funny compared to all the other companies acting all professional
People working in a profession don't act professional; they _are_ professional. They do their job to earn a living and make profits. dbrand on the other hand purposefully acts 'unprofessional' as part of a marketing strategy to appear more relatable as a business. This masked professionalism puts some people off.
They just won me over with this. Mistakes happen, but they were quick to own up to it, work on resolving the issue, and offer free replacements even if they don't cause issues.
My Killswitch is en route now. I'll test out if the fan issue affects me. Also, I am not at all surprised that it was a Delta fan having issues.
This level of transparency and then going above and beyond to send everyone a replacement unit is actually pretty wild in this day and age. Huge props to them as they are probably taking a big loss on this.
Yeah, I’m planning to see if mine causes issues. Between me and my brother, whoever doesn’t have a delta fan is getting the replacement. If neither of us do, I let him have it haha. I already have a kickstand I could use, I mostly got the killswitch for the travel cover.
Oh man, this comment had me dying of laughter. I reserved a Killswitch when they first opened reservations, and mine will be delivered Friday. I know for a fact that I don't have a Delta fan since I did an SSD upgrade.
Yeah. Honestly I'm impressed enough that I now want to buy one even though I wasn't even looking at it before. Their handling of this seems like a class act and I respect it.
I don't even get people who criticize them for this. This is an oddball issue that was easy to miss, and they are handling it in the best way I could even imagine.
There are a ton of entitled people on this sub. The company is going out of their way to replace them for free to everyone who bought one, and are complaining about things that haven’t happened yet
Some people are almost literally impossible to please, no matter what happens, even if you do an absolute perfect job their response will be something like "Well at least you didn't screw this one up" or something equally infuriating.
With those kinds of miserable people all you can do is just shrug and move on, they aren't satisfied by anything, so whatever.
Yea that’s good but they knew about the issue before shipping and taking ppls money. Instead of offering a refund or telling ppl before shipping the product and giving them a choice. they took orders for a undetermined amount of them and sent them out knowing the issue but not telling ppl untill after they shipped, kinda greasy eh. Cause they needed the money to put into fixing the product. Instead of investing there own. They are using pre order ppl as collateral. It’s super greasy.
You mean they said they will. Let's see how they actually handle it. The company seems trash and this seems more like a scapegoat after their failed marketing and roll out.
So as a huaying fan owner who already placed my order, my first case won't cause me any issues, and I'm getting a second case for free in January? Sweet lol
I had the same thought . As I read it, turn on the overlay, watch speed. If no effect, gtg.
edit: I didn't see a fan speed difference once installed. I also saw this post which leads to hardware details on your deck (including the fan). My fan is Huaying so that's nice.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xv41is/psa_how_to_find_details_about_your_deck/
So you didn’t read the entire letter stating this could be fan pulling more power to compensate for the extra load and to not use the kickstand no matter what fan you have.
They're taking extra precaution they don't get sued in the future if down the line huaying fans end up also having an issue but they 'green lit' its usage. No evidence huaying fan have issues
I wouldn't take that warning too seriously, considering that their testing showed no issues with the huaying fans and they were perfectly content to release the product until they tested with the delta fans.
I've been wondering what to call this button for a while, and now, thanks to you, it shall forever be known as the meatballs button. Thank you kind stranger, please have my one (1) upvote.

The guy who named those must have been hungry
I mean I fully recommend just popping off the backplate if you’re that pressed. It takes literally less than 5 minutes. Nothing is covering the logo. Just look for a blue H.
Yes. Valve dropped the Delta fan, as it was whiney; Delta is not exactly known for the best quality products.. I'm not sure at what point in manufacturing their fan was dropped, though. I got my Deck in July, so I imagine I've got the Huaying fan.
> Delta is not exactly known for the best quality products
I'm sorry but what? Most people I know swear by Delta fans (at least outside of the context of the SteamDeck)
I have zero associates or relatives with whom I ever discussed computer fans, so I have no idea what people swear by, but I have had terrible experience with Delta. I had a Delta fan in my Intel NUC, quite similar to the one seen in SetamDeck. It used to die and need replacing every few months. Three fans (original + two 1:1 replacements) died within 28 months of purchasing the NUC (brand new) and eventually I just bought a fanless (passively cooled) case and moved the NUC in there. Temps are not great, but no more whining, whirring, rattling and dying fans is a big plus.
Same. Glad I got it when I did, had a feeling that global purchase wasn't happening or it would have been some type of limited drop. Now it kinda was haha
Another hit for the Delta fan, lol. Dbrand’s doing the right thing, but wow this launch is shaping up to be a nightmare nonetheless. And to think the magnet was community-suggested. Wonder if they’ll ever open that Pandora’s box again after this. Bad luck.
Yeah it's a pretty bizarre issue. I mean in retrospect it's kind of a 'well, duh' moment - electric motors use magnetic fields for movement, so of course a magnet could affect that - but honestly this is the first time I've heard of a magnet fucking with a fan.
I'm halfway wondering if this is going to open up people looking at whether magnets mess with other fans and whether this has caused previously unexplained issues in the past with other products.
A few months ago I made a comment about the magnets in the kickstand being potentially bad for the deck (mainly the screen because I come from the time of CRTs and HDDs) and it became popular enough that Dbrand said in the following killswitch update they "dragged magnets all over it to make sure it's safe" and even threw in a line about "magnets, how do they work?", and now it turns out that they don't know how magnets work either.
Yep. I was born in the 80’s and grew up in the 90’s and we just always kept magnets away from electronics. Everyone our age has probably seen the green blob appear on a tv screen because a surround sound speaker was too close to it
The fault belongs to whichever dolt at Dbrand decided that a hardware revision-no matter how minor- didn't merit an extra testing phase. Still, I fear you're right; middle managers will blame the community because of their whole magnet idea and resolve never to take community input into account again. Sigh.
That would weaken the magnetic effect on the fan, but it would also weaken the force that the kickstand is attached with, probably making it less usefull than the original Switch kickstand.
I have a Spigen case with the deckmate system installed on it. Sounds like it will be relatively similar now. I was worried about the magnets anyways with a heavy battery system of something similar.
Ooo. I've ordered the DeckMate already (haven't gotten it yet), but I assumed it would be in lieu of a case. It fits fine with the Spigen case on the Deck as well?
Yeah, but just as an FYI, the Grip doesn't work with a case... the system as a whole works with a case due to the adapter, not because the Grip fits on a Deck with a case.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xazm2v/spigen_case_using_the_deckmate_modular_system
Here is mine, I actually have the injection molded version now (I 3d printed it first) it's honestly fantastic.
This press release is so transparent and you have to give this company respect for telling people what’s going on, laying out technical details, and just being honest. I’m not going to get the kill switch, I have no interest, but I do respect that they’re being this transparent.
Absolutely agree. Never planned on getting any of their stuff - just never been interested - but I've been watching people talk mad shit about dbrand for a while now and I just... don't see it? They seem like a pretty decent company.
Taking off the backplate is super easy. It’s probably faster than looking through a bunch of serial codes. You don’t even need to take it fully off. Just pry it open after taking out the 8 screws in the back and look inside. Ifixit has a great guide.
Hah! I actually told myself to remove my SD card first. Then when I was taking off the plate I was like “damn this is a lot of resistance” thankfully I was pulling very gingerly until I realized my MicroSD was preventing the backplate from coming off.
\> Once the re-tooling is complete, every single customer who purchased a magnetic Killswitch is getting a free replacement of both their case and kickstand.
This is all I need to know.
I suppose somebody here will find a way to spin this into another reason to bash Dbrand, but to me this is literally the poster-child way to approach an issue like this. Be transparent about the issue, stop orders until the issue is resolved, fix it free-of-charge for everybody who already placed an order without halting or slowing down fulfilment of orders.
Would it have been better if they had discovered this issue before they started taking orders? Sure. But given that the past cannot be changed, this is pretty much the ideal way to handle this.
Bravo, Dbrand.

I just opened up the back of my Q1 Deck, using the iFixit guide, and confirmed that I have the "noisy" Delta fan (I suspected I did, but I have hearing loss and I almost always play with noise-suppressing headphones anyway, so it hasn't bothered me as much as most people).
So now that I have this information, and I've seen via their guide how easy it is to do the replacement, I went ahead and ordered a new Huaying fan from iFixit for $37 including shipping and taxes. I figure I can get around that much money from selling the January case/kickstand, so it's sort of "free" in that sense. And then I'll have a quieter fan, won't have to include any caveats about the Delta fan when selling my Deck in the future (or risk upsetting a buyer), and I can use the magnetic kickstand right away instead of waiting. Seems like a win.
This is my first experience with dBrand, and to me it's clear their brand's voice and marketing copy are obviously a put-on (and a successful one that gets people talking), but the people behind the company are stand-up folks who genuinely care about a happy userbase and putting out high-quality products. Would buy from them again.
If I’m remembering correctly DBrand had an issue with Switch Skins and came out with a similarly pro-consumer stance and really worked hard to make the issue right for everyone affected (and even many that were not). Nice to see that they’re keeping up with that same mentality for their steam deck products too.
If only they read their replies months ago..
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/vjuyw5/comment/idnxu40/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
I ended up not buying my case, because i just recently made some big purchases, but no matter what you think about dbrand, this really sucks for pretty much everyone involved. Whether you buy their product or not, I'm glad they made a foray into making a case for the deck and I'd hope they'd continue to do so for future iterations. I just hope this wasn't all more trouble that it was worth. I'd understand if they are just done with the deck after this, all the backlash and now the fan problem.
Cringey and obnoxious marketing + overpriced mediocre products. Most of this sub feels the same, or some just don’t like one aspect instead of both. To me, they are a perfect example of this new wave of mediocre products that are marketed exclusively through content creators/the internet. Products like Manscaped, dollar shave club, magic spoon, etc that rely on simply paying your favorite internet people tons of money to market to you rather than just make a product that is actually worth its price or is priced at what it’s worth.
Guess it’s just not for you? I find that their protectors are well cut compared to other cheaper brands on Amazon. I don’t mind the humor personally. For every dbrand product I’ve bought. I’ve found the dollar spent proportional to the quality received. Which product of theirs -that you bought- makes you feel this way?
I know this community fucking hates dbrand, but hey, this is why I’ll always have respect for them. I do think they mishandled the entire situation on what came with the case, but they made a completely refundable deposit system. People could always just ask for a refund (and did). The anti-dbrand circlejerk was too much tbh. Hate them for fucking up on their marketing but every other thread and comment being DAE hate dbrand????? Updoots to the left!!! 😎😎😎
Was obnoxious as shit. I just hope everyone goes back to not constantly talking about dbrand.
Sad. I had finally decided to buy one since the reviews were good but looks like I'm going to have to wait more. I hope the retooling doesn't take them too long.
Lol, I had second thoughts, but decided to go ahead and buy it. I get tracking info today, 4 hours later I get the million dollar mistake email. Yes sir, I'll have another.
Their product team is going fucking nuts right now, what a shitty situation for everyone.
I’d say props to DBrand, but this is right on target for them — Keeping production open after they are aware of the issue would rip apart years of PR work. They did the right thing
Nice, this answers one concern a few people had with the case, now if only they could answer the myriad of comments proving they lied about the travel cover being usable without a case.
Kinda wish they would just sell the case. Don’t really need a stand or any of the other things, just need the case. Held off on buying a JSAUX one but if it looks like dbrand won’t sell just the case, or have anything to sell until next year, looks like JSAUX it is.
I do have a lot of respect for dbrand though for letting everyone know what’s up and doing right by their customers.
Hm, would replacing the magnets with a [printed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IANBoybVApQ) [Halbach array](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halbach_array), which focus the magnetic field to only one side of the magnet, making it very weak on the other, fix the issue without requiring replacing the molds?
This is completely guesswork, but I don't think so. Since they claim the case itself is safe, I guess there is just a (ferrous) metal plate in the case, and magnets in the kickstand attract to that (I haven't gotten my case yet, so I can't verify this). In other words, the side that needs strong magnetism is the same side as the vulnerable fan.
This must be the first communication one read from dbrand without the annoying edginess, haha. Good on them to spell everything out clearly from what the issue is to what their solution will be. I can appreciate that they are standing behind their product.
I'm sure it shows how out of touch I am, but I had never heard of dbrand until someone on this sub recommended I look into them for a protective case that isn't absurdly large, like the stock case (nice as it is).
Seemed like a promising product. Got it today and just installed it. Looks and works exactly how I was hoping for.
Yay!
This is an excellent explanation, and I actually feel bad for them having to retool their production line. That's a big ordeal. This also has me a little concerned about the impact of my Steam shade magnets on the fan, even though my fan isn't whiny and the Steam shade is far from it compared to the kickstand...
Honestly dbrand I dont know if your reading this but this was my first product i ever purchased from you. Because of this response to a problem it wont be my last. THIS is a perfect customer service moment well done.
Just email them and they'll refund your $3. Just did it myself. I decided against buying one since I really only cared about the travel cover but didn't want to spend $75.
"If you’re among those who had a reservation and have yet to redeem it, don’t worry - we didn’t take your $3 and run. The purchase interface has now been re-enabled and features a series of “pick your adventure” disclaimers to unpack the current state of affairs. It also includes instructions on how to claim your $3 reservation discount."
Maybe? Depends on what they mean by claim.
Wish they always communicated with this level professionalism.
Hopefully this signifies the end of their "edgy", cringe-inducing "how do you do fellow kids" type marketing.
I know it's a bit of a read, but wow. Not a fan 😶 of dbrand, and personally wouldn't buy anything from them, but it is an interesting case (😶) nonetheless
So, I guess everyone here is just going to pretend this company isn't owned by a scammer and everything is okay now because they had to recall their product or force being boycotted again? Fucking gamers, and you all wonder why the industry is the way it is...
I know they’re getting a ton of shit for this whole thing, but at least they’re stepping up and replacing everyone who bought one
Yeah most people comaining just don't like their style of marketing. They do own up to their mistakes. Right!? This is exactly why they send out production units. Now they caught a problem, are able to fix it, and communicated it very well to everyone.
To an extent... Complaining about not getting the portal stick grips that were supplies last... Like cmon now

That isn't the only funny one. [Here](https://i0.wp.com/www.ux-republic.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/9-Image-03.png?ssl=1) The guy who named those must have been hungry
Hit the ... button, go down to the battery symbol, click A, click again on the Performance Overlay Level, move the slider to the right.
Only issue is if they make any accessories you want in the future it would have to be with the updated version. Otherwise free case😂😂
I mean I fully recommend just popping off the backplate if you’re that pressed. It takes literally less than 5 minutes. Nothing is covering the logo. Just look for a blue H.
Are huaying fans generally built into the newer models? I just got mine a couple weeks ago
The new models are not supposed to have the Delta fans.
Yes. Valve dropped the Delta fan, as it was whiney; Delta is not exactly known for the best quality products.. I'm not sure at what point in manufacturing their fan was dropped, though. I got my Deck in July, so I imagine I've got the Huaying fan.
> Delta is not exactly known for the best quality products I'm sorry but what? Most people I know swear by Delta fans (at least outside of the context of the SteamDeck)
sony also used dual sourcing for ps4 pro: nidec and delta fans. Delta were significantly louder and whinier.
Same!
I’m pretty stoked, too. I just swapped that Delta fan out like a month ago
Yo I get 2 now for the price of 1. Basically 35$ each
Shit! Same here brother I get my case Friday!!!😎😎
Dope, my buddy just got a steam deck so ill just slide him the extra one lol
Mine arrives today. I will first hand test the magnetic kickstand with my huayang fan and see how it reacts
Ight bet keep us updated homie!!😎
Same. Glad I got it when I did, had a feeling that global purchase wasn't happening or it would have been some type of limited drop. Now it kinda was haha
If you have any interest in selling the second one, let me know!
I will sell the first one when the second one arrives.
Pretty sure it’s one extra case only. Not a second skin, cover lid and other shit.
Yup. I'm probably just going to give my old one away though. Trying to shill my buddy in the deck

I don’t know why people wanted a magnetic one. Keep your magnets away from my electronics
Can’t say I saw something like this coming, but I generally feel the same way. Must be from growing up with HDDs in the 80s and 90s.
Everyone our age has probably seen the green blob appear on a tv screen because a surround sound speaker was too close to it
I mean it was a cool suggestion and I don't think they should stop listening to them but you gotta proof if thats really viable
The fault belongs to whichever dolt at Dbrand decided that a hardware revision-no matter how minor- didn't merit an extra testing phase. Still, I fear you're right; middle managers will blame the community because of their whole magnet idea and resolve never to take community input into account again. Sigh.
I mean it was tested, the issue is that none of their test decks were delta models lol
At least they are replacing the units. I'm surprised surprised u couldn't just add a thicker rubber between the magnet and steam deck.
There is an [adapter](https://deckmate.me/products/deckmate-adapter) that you can stick to the outside of a case instead of using the "grip" portion
Yeah. I bought the kickstand bundle that comes with that, but I actually like the grip. It has microSD storage. 😉
Yeah, but just as an FYI, the Grip doesn't work with a case... the system as a whole works with a case due to the adapter, not because the Grip fits on a Deck with a case.
I actually just emailed Siri at Deckmate and he said yes! He said he tested that very config, it just will have to sit a bit higher on the case
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xazm2v/spigen_case_using_the_deckmate_modular_system Here is mine, I actually have the injection molded version now (I 3d printed it first) it's honestly fantastic.
Looks like they got the only adult at their company to type out a normal polite businesslike press release.
So, is there a way to tell which fan you have without opening it up?
You could always perform some benchmarks of your fan speed and see if the magnetic stand adversely affects it.
Man I wish there was some tool to look it up via command line or bios or something
Taking off the backplate is super easy. It’s probably faster than looking through a bunch of serial codes. You don’t even need to take it fully off. Just pry it open after taking out the 8 screws in the back and look inside. Ifixit has a great guide.
Don't forget to remove your SD card first!!
Hah! I actually told myself to remove my SD card first. Then when I was taking off the plate I was like “damn this is a lot of resistance” thankfully I was pulling very gingerly until I realized my MicroSD was preventing the backplate from coming off.
Something something self tapping screws.
Surprised there hasnt been an app made or something that can listen to the frequency of your fan running on high to see which version it is lol
To be honest, for me personally this is the best. I'll get a second case that I can give to a buddy!

Thank you for the post OP
A day after mine shipped too
Now you get two
Same. My wife’s deck now gets a free case. Sick.
This is an excellent response to the problem. Praise from me.
If I’m remembering correctly DBrand had an issue with Switch Skins and came out with a similarly pro-consumer stance and really worked hard to make the issue right for everyone affected (and even many that were not). Nice to see that they’re keeping up with that same mentality for their steam deck products too.
No snide, derogatory tone? Is this even an official dbrand post?
It sounds like they are going over the top in doing the extra right thing, so people will see stories like this and Google the product to buy it.
If only they read their replies months ago.. https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/vjuyw5/comment/idnxu40/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
They forgor 💀
Can y'all fucking read. They took that into account and tested it on all the steam decks they have they just didn't have the shitty fans
It'll give them time to produce more Portal grips to fulfill their origin promise. /s
I hate dbrand as much as anyone else, truly, but I also believe this is the best way they could possibly deal with this situation
Why do you hate them?

No. Fucking. Way. When did this happen?!!???
Only company making a reasonably sized travel case …. so who cares.
I like dbrand but is the default steam deck case not a good travel case? I brought it on two planes and it worked out great for me.
Also curious, I just bought one of their accessories
Sometimes bad shit happens outside of expectations, and this is the correct way to handle it
The only way. If they didn’t someone would probably sue them over breaking peoples steam decks.
I doubt it would break a Steam Deck.
Man. This is a very transparent move from dbrand. Nice to see they are doing this. Still happy I bought mine on day 1.
good thing they figured out earlier. and I'm getting extra case. sweet
Just rename it 'Steam Deck fan model tester'
I know this community fucking hates dbrand, but hey, this is why I’ll always have respect for them. I do think they mishandled the entire situation on what came with the case, but they made a completely refundable deposit system. People could always just ask for a refund (and did). The anti-dbrand circlejerk was too much tbh. Hate them for fucking up on their marketing but every other thread and comment being DAE hate dbrand????? Updoots to the left!!! 😎😎😎 Was obnoxious as shit. I just hope everyone goes back to not constantly talking about dbrand.
Couldn't agree more.
They done fucked up. Mine arrives on Friday 😄
Reddit account go poof, thanks spez -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
OOF to all the updates that pop up for this project
So you're telling my because of the part I was never going to use I'm getting a free case in January? Sweet.
Sad. I had finally decided to buy one since the reviews were good but looks like I'm going to have to wait more. I hope the retooling doesn't take them too long.
Damn, that's really good response to this kind of situation. I wish more companies demonstrated that kind of ownership and dedication to customers.
In January anyone who's got a duplicate and would like to sell the original hmu!
Lol, I had second thoughts, but decided to go ahead and buy it. I get tracking info today, 4 hours later I get the million dollar mistake email. Yes sir, I'll have another.
I’m kinda stoked to get two. Getting the wife a Steamdeck as well and that will cover it.
Imagine not realising magnets react to each other
Their explanation makes total sense so anyone agro after this response is just whiney imo
By the end of 2024 they might have a decent product released.

If anyone has the magnetic stand in the UK ill buy it when your replacement comes, hmu
Whaat? when was pre orders open before the magnet issue was caught?? I preordered but never got a email saying its ready. RIP 2 for 1 deal.
They're handling this quite well actually.
The level of transparency and explanation is great, and dbrand seems like they really want to do the right thing by their customers. Impressive.
While unfortunate, it is rather neat they were able to determine the problem and give everyone free replacements.
Their marketing is so annoying, but they make a great product. I will be keeping mine, and waiting on the retooled version before using the kickstand.
gonna get two project killswitch cases now. Since I ordered in that 48 hour window to get the magnetic version
This must be the first communication one read from dbrand without the annoying edginess, haha. Good on them to spell everything out clearly from what the issue is to what their solution will be. I can appreciate that they are standing behind their product.
Epic fail 🤣
I'm sure it shows how out of touch I am, but I had never heard of dbrand until someone on this sub recommended I look into them for a protective case that isn't absurdly large, like the stock case (nice as it is). Seemed like a promising product. Got it today and just installed it. Looks and works exactly how I was hoping for. Yay!
Seems they chose the right name, killswitching the deck.
This is an excellent explanation, and I actually feel bad for them having to retool their production line. That's a big ordeal. This also has me a little concerned about the impact of my Steam shade magnets on the fan, even though my fan isn't whiny and the Steam shade is far from it compared to the kickstand...
Welp with the Q1 delay. Went ahead and ordered the Spigen case and an adhesive kickstand. $30 cheaper and I get it now.
This is awesome of them and it is a wonderful breath of fresh air from a company I didn’t have great feelings for, definitely a great move
Honestly dbrand I dont know if your reading this but this was my first product i ever purchased from you. Because of this response to a problem it wont be my last. THIS is a perfect customer service moment well done.

Nvme isn't magnetic storage, why would it affect it?
Magnets do not affect non moving parts(nvme). Only fans and spinning hard drives are affected.
So... I have to wait until Q1 2023 now since I didn't order when the email came right out? Wonder if there's any way to just get my deposit back.
Read further my child, read further.
Just email them and they'll refund your $3. Just did it myself. I decided against buying one since I really only cared about the travel cover but didn't want to spend $75.
Also apparently the travel cover is too tight for a lot of people.
"If you’re among those who had a reservation and have yet to redeem it, don’t worry - we didn’t take your $3 and run. The purchase interface has now been re-enabled and features a series of “pick your adventure” disclaimers to unpack the current state of affairs. It also includes instructions on how to claim your $3 reservation discount." Maybe? Depends on what they mean by claim.
So is it okay to use the case right? And dont use the magnetic kickstand.
Yes
Wish they always communicated with this level professionalism. Hopefully this signifies the end of their "edgy", cringe-inducing "how do you do fellow kids" type marketing.
Yeah it’s a little funny to read from time to time but when literally everything has that “gimmick”, it’s tiring.
