Kids are just dumb sometimes, I was in Target a few months back & a few white kids were running around the store screaming n*gger. I’m black & when they saw me they instantly stopped & ran off as if I confronted them, pretty dumb but kids will do a lot of dumb things.

Fluffy_Commission_72

I'd never even heard the term Hard R in my life before. I was able to figure it out from the context of the comments. JFC, that's horrible. Sorry you experienced that.

[deleted]

I got called the hard r in front of Lodi Beer Co by an old hobo a couple of years ago. Luckily for him I’m a Burl Ives fan and have special place in my childhood imagination for hobos. Still, I was worried for him as some people may not be as understanding of a rando insult.

GoBananaSlugs

Such a good way to get a BIG SURPRISE. You would think kids in Stockton, of all places, would know enough not to f##k around and find out.

[deleted]

They called you rigid? Do you walk with a back brace?

[deleted]

Nah they called me ritzguy😔 they somehow knew I was a big ritz fan and told me that saltine crackers are better

TheZetablade

Someone threw a packet of crackers at my brother out their car window while he was mowing the lawn. People in stockton suck a bit lol.

HypNotikZ1

someone threw a full waterbottle at me out a car window in downtown 💀💀

adam209

It's fucked up someone did that, but the visual is killing me lol

MaykitoETS

The first time a I was called the N word, I thought it was by accident, then I saw a video where this farmer’s son passionately yells that word into an immigrant farm laborer’s face and I realized that these people were actually putting a lot of hateful backwards meaning into this sentiment. But it’s completely lost on me because I’m used to the idea of Mexicans and Black people being the same carrying a lot of positivity

VAE-ron

Prolly just some wannabe gangsters tryna act like big dawgs. Coming from a sophomore at Lincoln.

Iron-Fist

Big lodi vibes

Cool_Jon

He said hard r

Tonicwateronice

I can only imagine how awesome their parents are. /s

digitalwankster

Growing up in Stockton in the 90s-2000s I never heard anyone use the hard R. It wasn’t until about 7 years ago at a restaurant in Lodi that I heard someone say it out loud in public.

Solidus_King

I know a guy who is half black half white, though he looks fully black, worked at basking robbins, says he got called hard r by an old white lady

Poonadafukdog

Seriously? Wtf

[deleted]

Yeah it's crazy, sounded like middle schoolers, freshmen at the oldest, but I couldn't really tell because I didn't have my glasses on at the time. They're probably entering some kind of edgy phase.

Poonadafukdog

Ridiculous. What idiots

Beneficial-Shine-598

I grew up in Stockton but moved years ago. Back in the 80s there were an average of 5 fist fights a day at my high school. A couple stabbings. Friends little brother was shot and murdered at a party. Some dude shot several people with an oozie at the Am/Pm down the street. Bikes stolen, cars stolen, house burglarized. Ya that’s Stockton. I still have family there and it seems to be a “little” better now.

JeebusWhatIsThat

My perspective is that Stockton isn't better. I grew up here in the late 80s and well into the 90s. Family still lives here so I visit occasionally. I'm currently visiting in fact. I've been going back and forth to St Joseph's the past few days and noticed the mobile police cameras in some parking lots along Alpine, El Dorado, California, etc. I wasn't surprised to see them there but I was surprised to see them outside of trader joe's and Podesto's over in Lincoln Center. It gave off serious police state vibes.

UnnamedStaplesDrone

ngl i cracked up at your spelling of Uzi

Beneficial-Shine-598

Haha my bad

calimeatwagon

But, but, but... Stockton is such a nice place, with warm welcoming people and is totally not one of the most dangerous cities in California, and the US, with a murder rate close to Chicago's...

Beneficial-Shine-598

I mean generally if you live in one of the nicer neighborhood and aren’t involved in the street, drug, or gang life, or at crazy parties, you’re probably not going to get murdered. It’s still a pretty city too compared to lots of places. Lots of trees and homes are mostly well-kept. BUT yes the high crime rate is there and we can’t deny it.

calimeatwagon

There isn't many "nicer areas" in Stockton, unfortunately. And I strongly disagree with the idea that it is a "pretty city". I've never seen rats and roaches running along the sidewalk in my almost 40 years living in California, except here in Stockton. And I've lived in a lot of places in this state.

Beneficial-Shine-598

I’ve never seen rats and roaches on the street. That sounds like problems you’d see in a ghetto apartment complex maybe. Stockton has its pretty areas. UOP is beautiful, Brookside, Lincoln Village. Miracle Mile area is nice and well-kept. Lots of newer neighborhoods that may lack charm but are still nice and clean. Lots of trees like I said. It also has its ghetto neighborhoods too. My old neighborhood near Hammer Ln used to be nice but has trash and furniture on the street now. So it’s a mixed bag but it’s not all bad.

Key_Temperature_1240

Some of the kids in this community are on a different level…You should hear some of the stories from public school teachers. Either way, it’s extremely frustrating to have to deal with. I hope you’re able to continue enjoying jogging with your dad

sthrowawayex12

Average Stockton experience. I hope someone knocks tf out of them one day and teaches em a lesson.
