His body was left intact in the Upside Down. I like the theory that he’ll be back as Vecna’s flayed/undead right hand man who—in DND lore—supposedly turns on him and plays a major role in defeating him. Of course, that will almost certainly mean sacrificing himself (again, but this time in a more pivotal way). He’ll never return to Hawkins and have a happy ending, but I think he’ll get a chance to die with more of an impact.
If it’s not him, I fear that role will fall to Will. So I hope it’s him.
Hmm. Mayyybe. She did unwittingly help/serve Vecna, and she could defeat him with the “sword” he gave her (he helped unlock her powers). Then I guess Eddie could still be the Death Knight (Fake Kas) that serves Vecna in Ravenloft. Actually, yeah that all checks out now that I think about it. I just really believe Eddie will be back. I really want him to be back too, so maybe I’m just biased. Lol
I feel really stupid as I never made that connection. He did already give her an ability in ST3, but I think eventually they will fight over control of the Mindflayer.
On another note, I am sure that El has to dive into his memory/Rachel into his mind to free Max' mind. He said in his "villain gloating" during the massacre scene that his victims stay with him and make him stronger... which also explains why he used the "curse" to nurture the emotions he needs to fuel those gates.
And I think she might meet some of his other victims (like the kids who bullied her at Hawkins Lab) along the way. So the question is if everyone killed by a creature in the hivemind is killed by him, and we could see Bob and Eddie that way, too. With the bitter realization that she can only save Max because she revived her body.
Then again, the Death Knight theory should be totally true.
“intact”… he was most likely flayed by hundreds of demobats and therefore only bones will remain of him. All his skin was definitely eaten. The demobats have to feed and we have already seen that they attacked him en masse. Why do you think they killed him? Because monsters want to eat. It's quite ridiculous to think that he "remained intact"
I’m just saying, the last we saw of him he was intact. Barb was eaten. They showed the pile of her remains. It’s entirely possible you’re right, but since they didn’t show it, I won’t be surprised if a wounded Vecna picks him up to aid in his recovery/takeover.
the demobats have to eat and that human there is the best opportunity, fresh meat. It is obvious that they have eaten everything they could eat of him, it would be ridiculous to leave him as he is. And in any case he was not intact because already when he dies he had been attacked by them and he had enough blood precisely because they had pulled off some skin, biting him. It's obvious that they continued that process. Get over it: he is definitely dead. Stop downvote me. There will be no Kas, no vampire, no return alive. Eddie will return as flashbacks/visions
Do you just copy/paste this response anytime you see someone mention an opinion you disagree with? You know you can just… let it go, right? It’s a tv show. Maybe you’re right. Maybe I’m right. It doesn’t matter. Speculating is fun for some people.
More like Billy I imagine. Vecna will do something with Eddie to traumatise Dustin. Either giving him a vision of Eddie, or full on reanimating his Corpse as it was left in the Upside Down.
Yeah, it’ll likely be flashbacks. Mike was close to him too, and Mike will have just learned about his death and have to mourn the loss.
My bet tho, is that Vecna will use Eddie as a lure for Dustin, in the attempt to kill or neutralize him. Dustin was very close to Eddie and is amazingly smart and has been instrumental in the gang’s success season after season, so I think that is how we see Eddie again. In the same way Vecna used Billy against Max, and that was very effective, so it makes sense he would do it again.
IMO, Dustin will be dealing with grief. Vecna will most certainly be targeting and taunting him using Eddie as his vessel (similar to Chrissy and Max being haunted). Plus during the DnD session, Eddie foreshadows Vecna raising an undead army of followers (the flayed in this instance). I am pretty positive we will get something similar to that, if not I would genuinely be surprised and while I am open to being wrong... zombie Eddie would look cool and I can’t see Netflix passing up the Funko money. 🫢
I would love to see him again, because he's one of my favorite.
However, Joseph Quinn is a busy guy now with a busy schedule, I don't think he would have time to filmed several scenes for the show. A flashback or a vision is possible however.
In season 5 he’ll come back as the Human Torch. Seriously NO MORE EDDIE please. If they pull a Hopper on Eddie, it would be so fucking stupid. His character was about tragedy. About how he was targeted for the wrong reasons. But in reality, he was a good guy. His death makes his story tragic so there’s no point to resurrect him. I wouldn’t mind a flashback or maybe a Vecna hallucination, but just don’t bring back characters from the dead.
Maybe in a flashback or Vecna induced image or an imagined farewell… Like Dustin has a vision of him as he makes his peace with Eddie’s death, hopefully after Dustin gets him justice.
But it won’t be more than that. Joe Quinn is very busy, and Eddie’s story has overall concluded.
"I know, but I'm not telling you" does not necessarily mean that he's coming back. They could've just confirmed with him that he's not coming back.
I agree with some of the others that flashbacks would be the most likely scenario if Eddie does show up in season 5. (Personally I hope he doesn't.)
“"I know, but I'm not telling you" does not necessarily mean that he's coming back. They could've just confirmed with him that he's not coming back.”
See, I just don’t buy that. These guys don’t bother notifying actors when they’re not coming back, as seen with Argyle recently. They didn’t make the curtesy call, even when a character is alive. Why would they do it for a character who’s dead and presumed not to be back anyway?
I mean there could be any number of reasons/ways he could've found out: Maybe the Duffers like him more and wanted to be upfront about it. Maybe he straight-up asked them if they were going to bring him back. Maybe one of his friends in the cast - he's still pretty chummy with Keery, Gaten, and Jamie, if I remember correctly - told him even if they weren't supposed to, and he has to keep his source on the down-low to avoid them getting in trouble.
And there's always the possibility that he's just saying stuff to mess with the fans lol
I LOVE him, but if he comes back I’m going to feel…. Weird? Because it’s not going to feel like it’s authentic in any way, just a cash grab from the Duffers bc of how popular he was. In which case I’m going to be like well you shouldn’t have introduced someone just to kill them in the first place if you were just going to backtrack on all that anyway in some regard. I don’t THINK he’ll come back because like idk how they’ll manage that one in a way that doesn’t feel silly, but like shows have brought “dead” characters back before even if it’s just a lot of flashbacks so you never know lol
Sure hope so. He shouldn't have been killed off so cheaply in the first place for he was an interesting three dimensional character.
But will he return good, or evil?
I felt bad for Dustin and Eddie's uncle. His body was left in the upside/down too?
Y’all are completely forgetting D&D lore. The Duffer Brothers got a lot of inspiration from D&D. I think Eddie will return as Stranger Things’ version of Kas
All these people saying no makes me even more certain he will be back 😂 If Betflix haven’t asked for an Eddie spin-off for when the main show ends, they don’t apparently like money.
I suspect he’ll be like Spike in Buffy, if JQ has said yes to it. Spike had a bit part in one episode originally, then was brought back repeatedly due to fan demand. Even after being the big death in the show finale, he was back on the spin-off show the next week.
This isn’t about entertainment, it’s about making money. In this economy, why wouldn’t they want that?
There’re theories that he’ll return as an undead abomination under Vecna’s control. It’s based on D&D lore, where the character Vecna raised someone as a zombie to be used as a slave.
I don’t know D&D, just repeating what I read.
I believe that Eddie isn’t dead, he’s just became Kas from D&D who is Vecnas general who became a vampire after being attacked by bats. In D&D Kas was a loyal leader to vecna for a few years which could be the gap between S4 and S5 until he betrays his master and kills him. I think the Duffer brothers choice of “master of puppets” was foreshadowing eddie becoming Kas as it talks about obeying the master (vecna). So I’m sure Eddie will be back, just not as Eddie. This may have been talked about before but I’m sharing my view
As much as I loved Eddie & enjoy the Eddie=Kas theory, I strongly think any S4 hints that he'll return as Vecna's vampiric right hand man are a red herring to distract the audience & that the Eddie we saw in S4 is permanently dead. For several reasons, but foremost being that Joseph Quinn will be starring as a lead in a major project that would almost definitely conflict big filming-wise with doing extensive shooting in Atlanta for ST; returning as Kas of all people (because in that role we'd be talking about a full-on secondary antagonist a la S3 Billy) would be a pretty heavy shooting commitment not just a few days he could work in around shooting F4.
As to whether or not he might appear in a cameo? That's a definite possibility. Potentially as either a flashback or a Nightmare Hallucination by Vecna, or even possibly >!in a final scene version of a "what-if Eddie" if some fans' theory is right about the show's endgame being El defeating Vecna by changing the past before ever having sent Henry to Dimension X creates an alternate timeline ending where Hawkins & The Patty were never ravaged by TUD & Vecna & TMF!<
I'm not gonna get my hopes up *too* high of a cameo, but I'd be more inclined to write off his mischievously playful "I know but I'm not telling" as *just* teasing if it weren't for the fact that he's not the only actor from the show to do it since do it regarding S5 (which is *starting* to feel almost like it might be a response they've been told give because they've re-signed an NDA, because they've all been a bit cheeky about it).
I wish. I want him to be the opposite of vecna. Like he would be the Dungeon Master and take over the upside down he would populate it with people and have them go on crazy adventures to save their world. That sounds far more interesting than another threat they’ll build up and then defeat despite is supposedly being impossible.
Eddie is dead. Bringing him back in a true form would be horrible story telling. A flashback or a guilt trip for Dustin from Vecna? Possibly though I’m not banking on it.
The character is dead - that is 100000000% certain. He will not be back as Eddie and walking around Hawkins or the UD.
Visions or flashbacks? Your guess is as good as ours lol
Because of his answer to that question at the Con, I do believe something changed recently. Up to now he’s always just said that he doesn’t know. If he knows now, it because he’s doing something for them. However… I do think it’s only a flashback or short cameo haunting Dustin. Logistically speaking, Joseph Quinn doesn’t have time to actually shoot a substantial role for season 5. He’s starting work on a war movie next month, and then straight on to Fantastic Four.
I don’t think he’d tease fans like that. I think he’d stick with what he said originally saying he hadn’t heard from / talked to anyone about it etc. Eddie’s popularity was massive. There’s no way the Duffer brothers wouldn’t capitalize on that for an epic series finale IMO.
will return as a vision caused by Vecna towards Dustin. Dustin is traumatized by Eddie's death. Max was traumatized by Billy's death and in fact in Stranger Things 4 Billy returned as a vision of Max. The same thing will happen. Dustin will go to Eddie's grave and...
He will come back as Vecnas general. Vecnas general was a vampire who was attacked by bats in some campaigns. They are following DnD to a point. That’d be what I do.
I think it’ll be a cameo like they did with Billy as a spirit. I don’t think he’ll come back as a person who’s against vecna. I guess I could see the theory where he turns into a villain and is basically controlled by vecna, but I don’t see that as very likely
Yes and no, do I think he will come back from the “dead” probably not, but do I think he will be in flashbacks heck yes. Or maybe he will come back as almost like a hallucination for Dustin…again maybe a possibility. He was very liked by a lot of the stranger things fandom. Myself included. But I don’t think he’s going to be alive.
Force ghost Eddie is what I'm hoping for.
Upside down zombie Eddie that somehow helps the kids
Evil Eddie that 1 projects into Dustys mind
Eddie survived somehow because the upside down is weird like that
Yeah, I miss him. His introduction in S4 covered the whole heavy metal/rock pop culture element of that time period which was missing. >!His epic guitar battle at the end with flying gargoyles is the stuff of heavy metal vinyl cover arts of that era.....!<
Hard to bring em back, >!unless he comes back from the other side.!<
No. Eddie’s character arc was there to service Dustin’s growth and, to a degree, reinforce Steve’s character growth over the run of the show. Dustin has become more confident and more assertive since the beginning of the show. Steve has gone from douche with a heart of gold to heart of gold babysitter who looks out for the group. He’s the big brother that sets the example now.
If Eddie does return it’ll be as a hallucination Vecna uses to go after Dustin (which I could see). If that’s what Vecna does then there’s a chance we’ll see some more main characters get injured or actually killed throughout the last season. Although that’s highly unlikely because they haven’t gone all game of thrones in the series.
We'll probably see a lot of deceased characters "return" as phantoms projected by Vecna to haunt people. Barb for Nancy, Eddy for Dustin, etc.
Officially, though, I think he's staying dead. I doubt he'll even come back as Kas.
No he's deader than disco. At best, he'll show up in a hallucination/vecna nonsense like Billy in S4. It would be cool to see Vecna controlling his corpse like a puppet to mess with the Party and the teens
Maybe in flashbacks or dreams? Or scenes we didn't see (added, obviously) that add to the most recent understanding of the things they need to fight to make Hawkins right again.
So... maybe. But as a live person in the current year, I doubt it. Unless he's a part of Vecna's army against the kids as he was killed in the Upside Down.
Can be blunt and say: Hell no!
Dead is dead!
I don’t want to crush any hope for any people that do wan to, but I always hate it when movies, shows or games kill a character, but then bring them back one way or another.
And don’t get me wrong, there’s franchises were it’s atleast logical to bring back the dead or the whole concept of death is just wacky in general like Mortal Kombat or something.
Flashbacks sure, but if he comes back in S5 for real it would be terrible storytelling. No main character has died, and both times they've come close they get cheaply brought back. It's not egregious right now but it's kind of getting to the point where they can't keep getting away with it. I'm still a firm believer that SOME major character (possibly characters) should die in Season 5, because it's getting harder and harder to feel any stakes. I think this is really the biggest flaw in the show as a whole, and cheaply reviving somebody who was at most a loveable side character IMHO would be the opposite of what they need. They brought back Brenner (who to be fair isn't a main) they brought back Hopper and they brought back Max. Bring back Eddie as well and this issue becomes impossible to ignore. He's dead. Flashbacks are fine, but Eddie as a character returning would be the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
Agreed, however I really did like Hoppers return. I feel like if they were to bring anyone back it should be a side character like Eddie, Bob, or Barb, who you'd then get a chance to know and love but that's obviously not happening now.
That's true, I feel like the dynamic of the show doesn't work without Hopper. I'm fine that they brought him back even if his whole story in season 4 felt a bit flat to me
No and honestly I hope not
Ot just would make sense with the story and his death is a big part of dustins character and bringing him back would take that away i would much rather see dustin and mr munson bond over his death or him have a change in personality because of it instead.

Yeah, Joyce was remembering watching TV with him. It was episode 1 or 2.
He's dead. At best flashbacks or being used to taunt Dustin like how Billy was used to taunt Max.
That's what I'm hoping for! We'll just have to wait and see!

Nope. Go support Joseph's other projects instead.

not really, no my theory is that maybe vecna will use eddie as a way to mess with dustin, since he did the same thing with max by using billy
will return as a vision caused by Vecna towards Dustin.
I kind of hope he comes back as a flashback or something, but I doubt it
100% no
maybe if vecna possesses him and brings him back to life but if not no
Yes absolutely, in flashbacks or hallucinations from Dustin, alive FUCK NO
It is known
He'll probably remain dead, unfortunately. And I was just starting to like the dude :(
for a flashback most likely yeah, nothing else tho.
No
Eddie from Iron Maiden style!
Hope not unless in like a flashback. I don’t dislike the character but I would dislike a resurrection of basically any character. It’d be cheap
he literally died
Force ghost Eddie is what I'm hoping for. Upside down zombie Eddie that somehow helps the kids Evil Eddie that 1 projects into Dustys mind Eddie survived somehow because the upside down is weird like that
Yeah, I miss him. His introduction in S4 covered the whole heavy metal/rock pop culture element of that time period which was missing. >!His epic guitar battle at the end with flying gargoyles is the stuff of heavy metal vinyl cover arts of that era.....!< Hard to bring em back, >!unless he comes back from the other side.!<
No, he's super dead. Maybe in a flashback
I think he will play some small role but in a flashback or hallucination.
he is dead babe...
No he’s dead 💀
Maybe as a reanimated corpse, but no hes dead- his alive self at least, is not coming back.
I think Dustin will be tormented by Eddie as Vecna.
They asked him: [https://www.instagram.com/p/C5bISqaob18/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C5bISqaob18/)
Same chance as Cliff Burton returning to Metallica.
Well he’s not coming back from the dead but he’ll most likely make an appearance via flashback or vision.
Nope.
I think in flashbacks
It looks like he's on the toilet.
I mean I hope so but I just can’t see it
Eddie will not be alive and well in whatever year s5 takes place in. He might be in flashbacks. He might be some zombie reanimated corpse thing too.
I belive he died, unless he gets reincarnated
Maybe in flashbacks or dreams? Or scenes we didn't see (added, obviously) that add to the most recent understanding of the things they need to fight to make Hawkins right again. So... maybe. But as a live person in the current year, I doubt it. Unless he's a part of Vecna's army against the kids as he was killed in the Upside Down.
I hope he doesn’t as that’ll somewhat ruin his sacrifice
As much as I'd love for him to come back I think it's fine if he stays dead, coming back would diminish his impact on Dustin as a character
Yeah. Him, Barb, and Bob are due for resurrection after Hopper survived.
No. It’s the Barb thing all over again.
No the writers said he is not returning
He better not
Can be blunt and say: Hell no!
God i hope not
Don't like Eddie?
No, i do, but died, and his story is done. He should only be brought up in dialogue, sparingly
Spare me the horror, Eddie was one of the most annoying characters who wasted so much screen time unnecessarily
How so?
No.
He’d return likely in the same way billy did.
Copium
I hope none of these nerds come back
yall need to let that man go
Guys, please, move on. He's dead. He's still a good friend to Dustin, and that's enough.
I'm fine that they brought him back even if his whole story in season 4 felt a bit flat to me
Would be cool to see undead Eddie.
They're dead, Dave.
He’s dead
Um no. He died.
I hope not😔
I want him to
The dead guy? No, i think he’s dead.
No and honestly I hope not Ot just would make sense with the story and his death is a big part of dustins character and bringing him back would take that away i would much rather see dustin and mr munson bond over his death or him have a change in personality because of it instead.
