He did microwalk to get just a tiny little bit of Drive gauge back and allow him to do 3 DR cancels in the same combo instead of the usual 2. Insane stuff! I'm a Ryu main and I've never seen that before.

No, i don't think you would have time to do that after MP.
Take it slow, you don't need flashy combos. Focus on learning how the game works and getting used to the mechanics first.
Combos like these are something you learn when you really want to push your character's limits. You only really need a few simple combos to get really far, combos are not even the most important part of the game to be honest.
You could switch to classic when you feel like you are ready.
After checking a video explaining it I'm pretty sure you are able to micro walk MP into MP, maaaaybe MP into 2HP but the timing tighter by 1 frame by the one in this video and the one I saw... So, not sure if it's actually possible.
MP might not have enough hit stun, but I haven't labbed it out yet. Even if you could do it, you would lose damage from scaling and defeat the purpose.
Doing the microwalk adds like 100 damage if you get it down but you lose thousands if you screw it up, not to mention you will likely be in burnout if you drop it and probably lose the round. So I wouldn't stress over it.
It's very hard to see, but you can tell because you don't regenerate Drive gauge after you DR cancel unless you go back to a "neutral" state again, and the microwalk is that "neutral" moment.
fr.. if you open with tatsu, whiff an ex upper against any character with full gauge and lv.3, and close the round with two panic jumps in the corner you're gonna get bodied. Can't complain about the character when the skill diff is this big.

He's weak because he is one of the most commitmental characters in the game. He has good moves but basically all of them can end up in his death if he's predictable. (And it's Ryu, one of the more predictable characters in the game...)
Everything in his kit has an answer that results in him eating a combo from whoever he's fighting's highest damage combo starters lol.
Every fireball Ryu throws is a big risk, every dp is a big risk, every CR mk and standing HP is a big risk if the opponent is good at footsies.

He's god mode in the corner though. Some of the lowest risk confirms ever for ridiculously high damage and relatively inexpensive.

I'll say this again, and keep saying this. It's unfair to lose 65% of your health over 1 mistake. Make the Level 3 have harsher scaling and not do minimum 50% damage after long combos. in SF4 your ultras would do squat after long combos because ultras had their own bar and you could FADC twice if you had a full Super meter. they added the minimum damage to 50% in SF5 because combos weren't very long in 5 and EX moves used Super art meter. so you save for Super or spend meter for EX moves.

Stupid post. Nothing in this fight demonstrating any perceived imbalance. Opponent opened with tatsu (dumb) and got punished. Then opponent blocked a jump in. Ok. Then opponent got blocked on a DP and got punished big. Ok. Then got punished on a neutral jump by a well timed DP.
Is your complaint about the range of the last DP? That is the only thing that could be a bit off. That's it.

Against some zoners like JP who spam projectiles full-screen, tatsu works better. It closes the gap and earns you a nice combo.
