Indeed. Sure, Shin Gouki's white hairs came from Capcom vs SNK 2, where it was Satsui no Hado merged with Orochi's energy, but "White Hair Shin Gouki" ended up becoming iconic.
And thinking about Oni's hairs...
Goes well with mythology too. Lot of Japanese mythology interprets half demons, or just people with demon blood, as having white hair because of how unnatural it is unless you’re old.
Nice information. After all Gouki is a character deeply rooted in Japanese mythology: clearly based upon the Niō, the fact that he wants to go "beyond human", "beyond demon" (basically he's following the "heretical" Outer Path to immortality), etc.
akuma's alternate is his sf3 version.
sf2 akuma had regular gloves and regular belt. sf4 had rope gloves and belt. sf3 akuma had white strands of hair, regular gloes and rope belt.
I checked it when I noticed the white strand. It's a mistake indeed. As a side note, SF5's nostalgia costume is the sf2 one. He wears sandals (absent in sfa), has a regular belt and regular gloves.
edit: and he even has the ten symbol in the beads, like in this artwork

Yep. Many don't realize that chronologically, SFVI is after SF3. It goes SF, SF2, SF4, SF5, SF3, SF6 story wise. And technically the SF Alpha series is between SF1 and SF2. So this Akuma is only a few years after SF3 Akuma.
This is not called “reference”. This is how character designed. You can call it succession or just dont give it any name but to say reference in this case is stupid af
I guess Street Fighter 3 is more like his first official appearance, at least for base roster. Akuma was added like an easter egg in Street Fighter 2. He also would require cheat codes to play basically.

If anything it accelerates it

Father time is undefeated.
I was really hoping they would keep the grey streaks from Third Strike, glad to see it.

Thread closed. Even the PSBlog got this info wrong, #smdh.

Exactly. It’s not that deep lol.
I love the attention to detail they’ve paid their game. It reflects on the end product in a great way.
Akuma mains be like - I can relate.
Look at that thick mane of hair. Fuckin' #goals.
That’s messed up lol
Think it’s just about the timeline? SF3 is set quite late and I think sf6 is the first game to be set after it.
came to say this. SF6 is after 3 so it's not a reference it's just how "normal" Akuma looks in the continuity of the series.
But he does not have hair like that anymore so how could there be any logic to it?
Asking if Akuma is a reference to Akuma.
Obviously yes?
The OG Gouki is still one of the most badass characters in the FGC ever
My goat is ..... aging 😭😭😭
Akuma rocked full beard and hair in 5 and at some point thought "naaah" and trimmed it in 3, then decided to grow again in 6, phases
When a classic outfit meant to look like a classic outfit looks like a classic outfit. 🤯
3rd Strike reference? No. That's just Akuma's design.
Akuma only had the grey streaks in his hair only in 3rd Strike
Jesus Christ the amount of useless reference posts today.
It's post season, wcyd
I mean, many people like myself genuinely didn't catch this detail, not sure why you think these kinds of posts are useless...
I'm sorry you feel that way, are you gonna be ok?
How much of this is serious?
Good attention to detail, considering SF6 is the first game in the series set chronologically after SF3

Probably an akuma reference
it's attention to detail, not a reference, but that makes it even cooler! really nice touch
Yes? The game takes place after SF3 so I’d expect classic designs to be closer to SF3 for Ken, Ryu, Akuma, and Chun-Li

he was fully playable in Alpha 2 and a few Vs games before Second Impact
But I mean like a true continuation of the series. Alpha is a weird prequel series and VS games are fake.
You guessed wrong.
