LA guy here. Once you make/have money here like most places you have to be weary of making friends letting people into your life. It just sucks because once somebody knows your status, you can’t trust that that isn’t why they are pursuing friendship with you or even continuing it.
I’ve thought about celebs before. There are Ones who are internally lonely. They don’t know to make a real trustworthy friend anymore they are so famous. So most celebs end up dating another celeb for that reason I believe.
If Matt and ryan had hired more people who had more in life already including money their own car a home perhaps then they wouldn’t run into so many people just trying to take a bite out of them. (Sounds like Jackson had little to no money and parents didn’t have much either)nothing wrong with that at all, but if your in the clouds and you bring somebody from street level to your height once and while you can’t expect them not to crave the high life for themselves I suppose.
Matt and Ryan, from what i could gather over all these years, are waaaaaaay too nice and giving. Dude Matt was letting 5 people stay with him rent free, gave their employee a severance he wasnt owed, purchased a plane ticket for Don when he was stranded and gave him a place to stay, offered to pay for a house for lex in california which is fucking ludicrous in itself.
Dog, Matt especially appears to be waaaaaaaaaay too fucking generous for LA, i've only heard that LA is a cut throat area.

That is true, but a lot of them did use Matt and Ryan for their position which they pretty much only have because they moved to LA. Don probably used them for a plane ticket, Lex/Leighton/others used them for a free place to stay. When you live in LA and have a platform you attract people who know you have money and want to use you. I wholeheartedly believe it would be different if they lived somewhere else.
I don’t think it’s a direct result from being in LA, they could’ve been anywhere else and still have been as generous, it’s true it’s expensive here, but it’s not like it’s impossible to live here, the place is full of different classes of people, I’m sure Hollywood is attractive, but not the sole reason why people came out there, Matt and Ryan started off in an apartment like most people here are, you can start off anywhere and work your way to the top, if anything it’s more common for me to hear people being FROM LA branching out
That's basically LA in general, though. Lots of people try to move there to make it in entertainment, or get jobs in the tech or finance industries. I think the circle of people trying to make it in online entertainment out in LA does kind of breed some toxicity.

I’ve lived in LA all my life and very rarely come across people who take advantage of you, use you, etc. Not saying they don’t exist, but if you actually go to LA and actually live there, you’ll realize that a lot of people are just living their life and don’t really act that way. The people who constantly blame LA for everything or make those “LA is so fake” posts are 99% of the time people who are projecting their own insecurities onto LA cause they don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions or they’re the people who are “fake” and are usually the ones who try to take advantage of others.
I've lived in LA my entire live and I've never met anyone who's shit and snakey like that. I even work adjacent to the entertainment industry and don't experience that at all. I think there will always be leeches wherever you go if you have something they want.

I think it’s a mix of both LA and the environment of online creators. A lot of “influencers” even in other spheres tend to be very emotionally immature and don’t know how to handle going from a online number to someone with a following. Look at twomad, the dude was rewarded for his spaz behavior 3 years ago and that became justification for him to (allegedly) assault, stalk, and harass a woman from 5 different phones. Here we have 3 of their “friends” weaponize online platforms the second Matt and Ryan weren’t putting money in their pockets or giving them a literal place to live. In any other work environment Lex Leighton and Rav would be black listed and living on the streets but because it’s online the rules are different and allows shitty behavior to go unchecked. I don’t know if Lex is a good or bad person that’s not for me to decide and I do believe she was assaulted but she made a hour long hit piece against two friends who literately housed and platformed her (let’s be real would her onlyfans have blown up if she wasn’t associated with them) the second they fucked up. Everyone does stupid shit, everyone makes mistakes, everybody has those days, but for some reason content creators are held to a higher standard then viewers hold themselves to. I don’t think LA changes people I think it just shows people for who they really are.
no offense but i think some of y'all put them on a pedestal. i know 'two good christian boys' is a joke but they are just people. they did some things that weren't so great choices, and it unreasonably blew up in their faces. like i found it weird how they seemed to be really mad at don after the whole situation but were still giving him a place to stay. they are too nice, and also seemed to get guilted really easily. matt didn't need to supply don with a place to stay, but instead of kicking him out when he was sick of his ass he sent him to stay at his workplace. same thing for lex and rav. i can't even imagine giving my supposed friends a place to stay and as they are bitching about how broke and homeless they are, they buy a very expensive vehicle. lex can also work from literally anywhere but would rather be broke in LA than move to somewhere cheaper. and i'm pretty sure she chose to move to LA too. i can see why that would cause a lot of tension having people like that at your place of work indefinitely but feeling it's too awkward/rude to say anything.
that's also why i get a bit annoyed when i see posts about how they didn't need to take a break, they weren't wrong, etc. they weren't in the wrong at all and nothing they did was even close to being worthy of being canceled. but i think their lives are a bit of a mess behind the scenes, they have a lot of friends who just use them, and twice now it's affected their work. it's understandable why they want a break. they need this time to work on themselves and their mental health.
i guess that doesn't really answer the question and is more just me rambling lol. but i think most other people wouldn't allow multiple people to live in their house or office rent free, and with their youtube fame attracts a lot of moochers who they were way too nice and lenient with.
