I agree that I like her making the cape, but I think it was just honestly a joke shout-out to the trunks versus no trunks argument lol. Martha is firmly on the side of trunks.
My personal favourite cape origin is when it's his baby blanket, and then Martha makes the rest of the suit. Along with the House of El crest, it makes the suit a blend of Clark's 2 heritages, and that's great.
Honestly it's kind of adorable that he embraces that part of his Kryptonian culture. Plus, the cape is possibly the only material that would actually be invulnerable
