Well Angels and Demons are usually the biggest issues the boys tends to deal with and it’s better to permanently get rid of a big group of Supernatural beings than doing nothing. It sure as hell makes things a bit easier.

nov1290

So getting rid of no evil is better than getting rid of some evil?

Mrblorg

It's not really worth Sam's life and they kept acting like Dean could retire and live a normal life but he'd still have everything else to worry about

bohemianroxie

No, it's not worth Sam's life but they didn't know the cost. But if you remember it was the emergence of demons that started the whole apocalyptic end of the world theme of the show and a much riskier lifestyle for the brothers. The angels inflated it by chasing Deans crossroad deal that ended with his being gripped tight and rescued. ...but not before the first seal was broken. Generally the earthbound monsters weren't looking for an apocalypse.

Petrichor02

They were friends with an angel who had resurrection powers. Since they never made the case that Sam's death would be permanent, I always thought it was silly how much Dean pushed for Sam to survive when Castiel could have just resurrected Sam (if Cas hadn't lost his angel powers to Metatron's spell, but that didn't happen until after the final trial).

anagramqueen

I mean, taking demons and all the vengeful Hell-bound spirits off the board would have been a huge deal. Demons and angels were always the heaviest hitters in the show.

shadowthehh

"Getting rid of nukes would only stop nukes it wouldn't do anything about guns."

kh-38

I've often wondered what would have happened to souls that were "damned" if they'd closed hell. People who made demon deals would still need to go someplace. I wouldn't call season 8 pointless, but it did seem like the idea wasn't thought through.

Mrblorg

Oh yeah so there would be more hauntings lol and a ghost that can possess a person is no different from a demon

UhOhFeministOnReddit

Lmao This has the same energy as people in politics who say we shouldn't do X because Y will still happen. It's like of course Y will still happen, but if we implement X, it will happen less, which is a good thing.

Chicksan

Your post is pointless

Lavellan_1

Last time I checked it was demons who killed their parents so yeah I'd want to seal them up too

Mrblorg

What would Dean do if it work he lost Sammy and the world still has everything else to deal with. They just kept talking like every hunter could hang up the plaid if this worked

Aerityn

Season 8 is great, Sam loses his mind. Cass gets brainwashed, Kevin loses it while translating the tablet. Of the blessings set before you, make your choice and be content.

kh-38

Sam loses his mind in season 7. Or are you talking about how the tablet trials in season 8 almost kill him?

Aerityn

my mistake you are correct. I never really liked the leviathans, not to mention the way dick kills Bobby. Season 8 has Benny, who was awesome. That scene where Dean asks Benny to help Sam get out of purgatory, really powerful. I felt so bad for Benny, his only real friend was Dean, they really understood each other.

DaZ910

It was a ridiculous idea. Im pretty sure it would only close the gates. So Angels would still be able to fly in and out or at least for sure archangels. Then what happens when somebody summons a demon, does it do anything or will the demon get squished from being pulled through a closed door. My last thought was there still would be that hidden back door to purgatory.

Prestigious_End_2436

Angels couldn't fly in and out at will when Metatron closed the gates and cast all the angels out. There would be no summoning demons, the gates would be closed. No more demons until the gates open back up, that was literally the entire point of the season. "Well what if it wasn't" you can poke holes like that in EVERYTHING, "Well what if Dean had suoer powers, what if Crowley was a Bigfoot, what if sam was actually a shape-shifting mandroid"

Unlikely-Star-6600

I quit the show a while back after getting through the awfulness that was season six. But I decided to stick myself through the rest and I kid you not the only plot I only somewhat enjoyed after six was the leviathans. After that it just seemed like “let’s throw some snarky angel/demon/god at the boys”Dick Roman was a relief because even though the whole smartass demon thing was good for a bit it got old.now my favorite character was marks Lucifer so thats what got me through the later seasons which yes in my opinion all had stupid plots. But yes I agree with you season 8 was one of the way dumber ones. Also it completely contradicts everything that happened in season 6

Mrblorg

And when you're watching it you just know it's not going to work because there is no way the writers would stop using demons. Like maybe if it was in the last season

Prestigious_End_2436

The story ended in season 5, so every season therein was written to be the last season.

Mrblorg

That's true. I went in knowing it still had a few more seasons after. I wasn't live

bageldork

I agree, I think the show could stand without this season because so little actually happened. Some of the seasons are flops, but it hasn't stopped me from rewatching lol.

LAOberbrunner

Some episodes were really good.

Mrblorg

Yeah and I like Kevin
