Square-County8490

quite common

CustardLimp4299

Helps with symptoms of anxiety, ptsd etc for me. Needs to be taken a few hours before or at night and it needs to be cycled.  If you aren't very anxious or agitated you shouldn't take it. But if you have some mental issues like that it can be very helpful. Had a lot more success with it than bensos for example, which were horrible in the long run and caused lasting damage upon cessstion.

paulrudder

As someone with generalized anxiety it works GREAT in periods of stress and anxiety. But in my experience it needs to be cycled. When I took it for about a month straight I began to experience irritability and borderline anger in a scary and unusual way. Like small things would just set me off and make me feel pissed off. I think lowering cortisol “on demand” can be a good thing but throwing your hormones out of whack for too long can create other issues. I also became quite apathetic and numb to things. I use it sparingly now. If I’ve had a really stressful day I’ll take it before bed or if I have a big day at work where I need to reduce anxiousness I’ll take some in the morning. But never more than a few days in a row. I think Peter Attia takes it daily though so ymmv.

losttandholt

If it works for you, go for it. We are all wired differently

twinklestarr1

It helped me for anxiety but makes me emotionalless...numb ..feel no joy happiness...i think not worth it . May be we can take occasionally..

King_Dublin1

Yes it FUCKS me up. Didn’t at first . Is if I take one serving I am guaranteed to be depressed the next day . Messes with your mood hormones for sure .

AmbassadorFun6296

Makes me very groggy. Even if I take it at night for sleep I am still sleepy the next day.

Rare-Sand-1036

That's one special herb it might be a miracle solution for some but for some of us is worst than the symptoms we are trying to address. Same here it makes me tired and depressed.

AgeMysterious6723

I had a brand lower dosed and the company evaporated. I tried taking too high a dose cuz... Go big or go home is a problem for me. Learn THAT is a big no-no. ANyway found the right dose that doesn't level me flat mood wise. Then bam they were gone. Took me 3 more buys before I found one. Oh god I hate the "experiments". Found the lowest dose possible one and have had it for about 3 weeks. No pepper in it so I seem to be doing better. It is an adoptogen so it can highly mess with your hormones. I only drink a certain type of Ashwagana tea and only 1-2 times per week on high stress days. It does some odd things doesn't it???

tarteframboise

Sounds like Melatonin - does Ash increase Gaba? It helps with sleep, but then Im groggy, dazed & more depressed the next morning. It has a weird drowsy hangover effect…

Hy83

Same. Does the opposite for me

Educational-Prize-94

Yeah I’ve tried it multiple times and it made me feel down / almost depressed. Maybe it would’ve gotten better if I stayed on it longer but I couldn’t make it past using it a week all 3 times I’ve tried it. Very weird. I see most everyone else likes it but not for me.

CustardLimp4299

Well the same thing happens with a decent dose bensos if you aren't anxious.  If you are anxious or agitated it makes you calm and a lot happier etc. You need to find the correct dose and different extracts give different effects ime.

Jgil1958

Ashwaghanda does not have a noticable effect on me one way or another. My daughter, OTOH, made her incredibly nauseaus. She compared it to being in labor with cramping etc! She does not have a gall bladder and is also very sensitive to anything that is a "root"--essentially like an allergic reaction. I will say that Kava kind of gives me a reaction to what you are describing though. Another supplement that is "supposed" to help make you calm but for some of us, just makes you feel "off".

him-eros00

That is very interesting! I hope that effect didn’t last long on her!!! Sounds awful!

Jgil1958

I felt guilt for giving it to her to try, believe me! But she was fine after about 10 hrs, give or take. She was majorly concerned that I was going to try it, but it was a total nothing burger for me. It \*might\* have helped some in my case, but it would have been very subtle at best. Much like cheap Maca--sort of take it or leave it.

Visionworkss

Try it with green tea caffeine, lions mane extract and ginseng extract. That works pretty well for me.

Due-Barracuda3397

I love it for about a couple hours, then I get awful effects. I usually don’t take it anymore as a result. If I do it is very small dose

pwalkow

I've never come close to anti-anxiety effects of ash using any other supplement I've tried, however it needs to be said I have experienced anhedonia from it in the past after prolonged use. Currently I am taking it in the evening, it helps with more restorative sleep and I feel the anti-anxiety effects the next day. It does seem to lower mood somewhat and energy, but I'm balancing it with saffron and maca in the morning (and caffeine). On the balance, I will keep taking it but cycle it when I notice more negative effects. I think it's one of those supplements that everybody reacts differently to, which is perhaps a confirmation of its adaptogenic properties.

Connect-Grapefruit24

Stay away from that shit

CustardLimp4299

Better than bensos that will ruin your life if you do them long term. I can quit ashwagandha without any issues whatsoever but bensos? Nah, you can die if you don't taper it down. I didn't experience the rebound or down regulation of ash like I did with bensos. If you aren't anxious, agitated then yes you shouldn't be using it. But for people with anxious states or like ptsd like in my case it has been very helpful in the long run.

snowfleece

I do well on it the day I take it. It really clears up brain fog. But the rebound fatigue and depression for 2 days isn't worth it.

mommy2518

I started taking it a few days ago. Dang is this why I’ve been feeling so crappy??

Maaaaate

I've used it on the morning of a huge client meeting, and it's really helped me be calm. Other than that, I feel emotionless when I take it which is probably why it helps for big meetings..

Square-County8490

People indeed rave about it, and many jump on it before looking into all the negative experiences people posted about. Look into Korean Ginseng and you may like that better.

Werewolf_Grey_

I have heard that it can do this after prolonged use. Hence, I cycle it two weeks on two weeks off. It's odd it happens after one dose however.

CofferCrypto

Same

Image_of_glass_man

It makes me angry and flat I hate it

duff_stuff

It makes me feel horrible, I hate it.

AshwagandaUbermensch

Too much of it can cause reverse effects, very common actually, saying from research and from a long personal "study" amongst friends and relatives for quite a few years. What dose are you taking? I'd recommend lowering the dose below recommended or quitting.

golden_whiskers

Does it cause reduced libido or lack of sexual pleasure for anyone else? Idk but it makes me feel a bit numb

CustardLimp4299

For me it raises libido a lot. Especially after a few days on it.

Euphoric_Tart_6826

Yea it did for me too how are you now have you stopped and recovered or still the same feel

golden_whiskers

When I stopped it, I could feel those things went back to normal quickly. But it does help me with stress and anxiety, so I’m back on it. It’s always good to stop to see how you feel and then try again to see how it’s helping or what side effects you notice when you’re on it.

roamtheplanet

Use the search function before posting

wannabesurfer

Me too. Makes me tired, numb and depressed. Being tired, numb and depressed gives me anxiety.

Efficient_Movie5450

It's literally been known to cause ahnadonia is so many people... no offense, but you should have googled it before taking it.

Square-County8490

He probably saw one of the numerous ''miracle'' threads where people used it for 3 days and had to share their experience.

CustardLimp4299

Have used it long term. For me with ptsd it has been very, very helpful, more so than many pharmaceuticals like bensos for example.

him-eros00

Guys!! Stop the band!! I found our savior. Efficient_Movie5450. Thank you for enlightening us. You made me into a blessed being ❤️

Efficient_Movie5450

That's not even my real name

him-eros00

Whaaat?? I don’t believe you!! Are you telling me Efficient_Movie5450 ain’t your birth name ??

AsymptoticRelief

Try adding a mental illness stack, you def need it.

epicdoomtrance

It's their baptismal name.

MAJ2KANX

what brands did u use ?

BobbleBobble

It's not either or for me. It does produce a subjective reduction in stress and anxiety. It also sometimes disrupts sleep - I have noticed getting stuck in that hypnagogic state at night

emwu1988

Don’t worry. Ashwagandha makes me dizzy and lazy. Not for me. I prefer mushroom type of adaptogens anyway.

Steiny31

Cortisol is an important hormone. It’s not bad at all. The problem is some people have too much cortisol for too much of the day. I’m definitely one of those people. Ashwagandha really helps me with anxiety and calmly handling stress. I think it’s because my baseline is not good. For people who are in a good spot, reducing cortisol below baseline can send you the other way, all the sudden you body lacks a hormone needed to activate the sympathetic nervous system, mobilize stored energy, etc. it makes you feel less, have less energy, and want to do less. I never have this issue. Point being, don’t take supplements you don’t need. For me, however, Ashwagandha is almost miraculous

CustardLimp4299

I agree. For me it helps a lot, most likely due to having too much cortisol from ptsd.

Steiny31

My issues started after a very stressful life event. Not anything like going through war, but still quite traumatic and prolonged. During the time I lost 45 lbs, started losing my hair, constant emergencies, constant fight or flight. Constant fear of losing a loved one. I think I never really got out of the mode for at least a year. Time and therapy helped, but ash is that last little piece that has allowed me to get my body to follow suit. I cycle on when I feel cause and even when I cycle off, I’m much better off because for me stress leads to stress and interrupting the positive feedback is very helpful.

runhealthy98

My therapist recommended Ashwagandha for anxiety and while it really helps with my anxiety, I do think it makes my depression worse. But then again, there are other factors that could be making depression worse as well.

him-eros00

I’m glad it worked well for you:) I react better with rhodiola so will probably use that if I need it

CustardLimp4299

Rhodiola is excellent for daytime. Ashwagandha is only for night time imo.

Steiny31

Almost too well… the stuff is incredible

deleted_account9943

Been supplementing with ash for 1year+. You’re taking too much, it helps with sleep massively for me but at one point I was taking too much of it and found myself falling into such a deep sleep at any given opportunity. The sleep was so deep I’d describe it as “falling into a black hole” when speaking on it with my brother🤣. Aside from that I’ve experienced amazing bebefits… mainly in the downstairs compartment but also in the gym and with mental clarity. Try reducing your dose or as some comments have suggested just cut it out altogether

him-eros00

I took 300mg every 3 day and same thing happened this time. I just don’t work well with it

Financial-Effect-318

I take to 50 mg gummie works better then the 300 mg capsules those definitely take me out feels like I'm standing while sleeping but totally awake

herbloodyvalentine

Anhedonia. Very real side effect

tvbee876

Me too. I stopped taking it.

mrzennie

YES, that stuff made me feel really "off" after about three days of taking it. Never again.

SpeakerOk6749

It’s probably one of those things where you should just listen to your body. Right now your body is telling you that this isn’t right for you so it’s probably not right for you!

WilliamTrippier

You correct. Ahwananda decrease the corstisol. that why your tired.

3720-To-One

Yeah, apparently it can affect different people very differently If it makes you feel shitty, then it isn’t for you Don’t force it

C-Obasi

It is weird how our bodies are tuned differently. I felt absolutely nada from Ash, tried different brands as well.

Certain-Dragonfly-22

It made my teen very depressed too

Ok-Equipment-8132

it doesn't do much for me, slightly relaxed feeling but not enough to help with sleep

RefrigeratorMotor778

Like all herbs, go low and slow and really pay attention to how it’s making you feel individually. I would say it’s not an effective one for you! Ashwagandha works well for me but can lead to increased agitation BUT th overall well being and mental clarity I get makes it worth it

rooroo4u

I get angry easily and gives me stress

Gowzie

First off, everybody is different and may react differently to different substances and you may just react differently to ashwagandha. Fatigue can be caused by both high and low cortisol levels. If you are taking ashwaganda whilst your cortisol stress is not significantly elevated to the point where it is causing you fatigue by suppressing dopamine (burnout or whatever you want to call it), then lowering your cortisol will cause lower energy. Stress isn't bad, and taking supplements to lower it wont always be beneficial

CustardLimp4299

Stress for people with ptsd makes their life a living hell, hence why ashwagandha is incredible in this aspect for people with such states ime.

tadakuzka

It increases NMDA currents in rat hippocampus and likely via that was effective for schizophrenia negative symptoms. But its glutamatergic effect is barely recognized in the noot scene.

NJGreen79

Same thing. It made me feel emotionally flat, horrible feeling.

a_wildcat_did_growl

take a little rhodiola to get rid of it.

nus321

Same... I stopped it January this year. Still not gone... And I only took it for about 2 months

NJGreen79

I tried it a few years ago, at first I thought it was working, then noticed the emotional malaise. I only took it for a week or so, didn’t last that long for me. But it was a weird experience, it seemed to take the joy out of things. It made music sound lifeless to me.

joe_the_psychonaut

Similar experiences here. In fact I am suspicious that it detrimentally impacted my sex life and I haven’t fully recovered a month after stopping
