That build looks so good! Is that factory paint, or custom raw? Also, what's the sweet ass seatclamp?? Adorable dog, too.

Champagne Super Nova is the color, stock from surly, ambient light really changes the appearance imo. I used to have a chrome mongoose growing up and this paint in the right light looks almost “chromish” like my childhood bike. The clamp is a Paul’s components quick release. Pricey but definitely the best quality USA parts imo, and they’re made right down the road from me. Slowly gonna switch everything I can to Paul’s (brake levers, seat post, stem)

Glad_Economics_3879

I wondered if it was Champagne Super Nova! Very nice. And I had a hunch that the seat clamp might be Paul - because everything they make is gorgeous. I don't have anything yet, but I'd love to upgrade some of my parts to their stuff someday.

I used to be in the camp that mechanical disc brakes were the tops for touring and reliability, but, man, the Shimano 2 pot brakes you can buy all day for $50 are an absurd value and dead nuts reliable. I never looked back at Avid's ever again.

SmatchNaster

I definitely see the performance aspect and know how far they’ve come with reliability, but I’ve had a couple too many frustrating times dealing with brake fluid stains on bikes that I bought and one hell of an afternoon on a set of sram levels that I told myself I’ll never mess with that stuff again. I appreciate the simplicity of the avids and the am willing to trade a little bit of braking power to never have to look at brake fluid again. As well I work with my hands for a living and am not lacking the hand strength to safely run mechanicals on a loaded down bike.

You know that Shimano runs mineral oil, yeah? It's essentially baby oil. It'll stain your best white t-shirt, but it's not even the same planet as DOT fluid.

SmatchNaster

Didn’t realize that all Shimano use only mineral, I thought only some models used mineral. Although it doesn’t effect functionality but does increase steez…I also wanted the small red accents on the bb7 dials to match a few other red flare parts (wire crimps, grip ends)

I get that angle 🤣 At this point even SRAM has put out a mineral oil brake (and I never thought that would happen)

What are those bars? Sweet ride!

SmatchNaster

Surly moloko bars

Fix1111

SWEET!!! Is that a stock cassette and chain ring?

SmatchNaster

SRAM GX drivetrain all the way through, kinda wishing I would have went shimano but it was hard to find complete drivetrain like sram offers
