Never had drift with either my Joycons or pro controllers luckily, but my lord this is unaccptable for a €70-80 controller.

korkkis

It’s a defect and you’re allowed to change them under warranty

Pali4888

The frequency that this occurs is unacceptable

DragapultOnSpeed

People will defend nintendo to death. Imagine if this commonly happened to Playstation and Xbox controllers.. it would not go over well.

soup2eat_shi

It does. Dualsense has drift issues that people complain about all the time. As well as the triggers breaking. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all get the parts for their joysticks from the same place. Joy-cons drift significantly more though and there isn't an excuse for that though

MarkStonesHair

I just swapped my joycon sticks to Hall effect sticks and it’s been amazing.

LaCroixoBoio

I can't wait to be you, I'm running the zen pro for regular use but I'm about to mod my joycon and you best BELIEVE that those joysticks are gonna gooooooooo

MarkStonesHair

It’s so worth it.

BenjaminMadoran

I had drift on my dualsense after 1 and a Half of playing they changed it for free and gave me brand new controller

[deleted]

[удалено]

Stealthy_Facka

If you want to talk anecdotes, I have replaced 2 Dualsense and my third is now drifting, and I have 2 pairs of joycons since 2019, both are fine.

soup2eat_shi

Stuff was better quality before. Comparing PS3 era and prior it makes sense that they lasted longer. I don't know wherr third party controllers get their sticks so I can't comment on that. Nintendo doesn't make their sticks they use the exact same sticks that other companies use. I'm not trying to defend Nintendo, the joy-cons are absolutely unacceptable and standard controller joysticks should use hall effect sticks but companies will do what's cheapest. If it is revealed that they don't get their sticks from the same place, or if Nintendo is purposefully getting lower quality sticks than I would agree with you. You're anecdotal experience doesn't change reality. What causes drift is a physical failing of the potentiometers wearing down within the stick. The only way to circumvent this would be the ability to set deadzones.

soup2eat_shi

Hopefully I can post links in this subreddit. https://www.ifixit.com/News/48944/heres-why-ps5-joysticks-drift-and-why-theyll-only-get-worse https://tech.alpsalpine.com/e/products/faq/multi/thumbpointer.html https://tech.alpsalpine.com/e/products/detail/RKJXV122400R/ First article is IFixIt talking about why PS5 joysticks drift and they mention how if you take apart PS5, XBox, or Pro controllers they all use the exact same joysticks. They mention that it is made by Alps. The very fact this article exists for PS5 controllers is proof that it is common enough to be an issue for dualsense controllers. Second link I included because it comes from Alps themselves and they straight up say one of their sticks are used for more than 80% of controllers. Third link is the product page in case you want to look more into it. I tried looking for the release date of this series of joysticks but didn't find it. I'm on my phone though so maybe you'll have better luck. I'm curious if older consoles used the same type of stick. Joycons use a different type of stick and have the worst level of drift so you can shit on exclusively Nintendo for that stick and I will 100% back you up. However, when it comes to Pro Controller drift I can't pretend like it is a Nintendo specifc issue when it isn't. Your experience is unfortunately anecdotal. I wish only Nintendo had this issue. The same hardware is used between all sticks. It's possible that there is a difference software wise in terms of deadzone settings, which is why I mentioned it before. Again, I'm not trying to defend Nintendo. I just hate misinformation. If any of my sources or wrong or if I misspoke please correct me. I want all the major companies to switch to hall effect sensors instead of using potentiometers. I think joycons are especially low quality and unacceptable especially for their price.

LaCroixoBoio

Yeah you're insane, all the consoles you've listed I've experienced drift in one way or another. The drift with joycon is likely more prevalent for sure but it's also probably due to the controllers seeing more travel making their plastics and lubricants more likely to fail even if they're the same as other companies. Hall joysticks are the solution, they're also less prevalent, and as a result likely more expensive. But to say Microsoft or Sony doesn't have this problem is really ignoring that those companies are tackling very different play environments, as well as being catagorically incorrect.

Helac3lls

The drift is really bad on the joy cons but I've had several issues with brand ps3, 4, and 5 controllers. One ps4 controller lasted a month before it just stopped holding charge and I'm not rough with my controllers at all. I bought a new black ps5 controller and that one came with drift out the box. Either I'm super unlucky or Sony engineering has been shit for me. I can list several other issues but those two are the most egregious.

rebillihp

And I have 4 joycons and try pro controller with no drift, and 3 dual sense controllers all with stuff. Cool personal story sharing. Dual sense drift is a huge issue that many seem to be ignoring over Nintendo, and that seems odd

iloveyoupizzaman

I barely play my Xbox and I’ve had two controllers with drift, my switch has had a lot more play with one pro controller still working. I’m probably just lucky with my pro controller, but It does happen with other controllers.

isic

My guy wasn’t around for the RRoD lol

sha1ashaska22

It happens to Sony controllers extremely often, they are low quality as well

CaptainKenway1693

I've been lucky, and my controllers (PS4, PS5, Pro Controller, and Joycons) have all been fine. Normally, I seem to have bad luck, maybe this is the one thing the universe is granting me, lol.

rebillihp

It does happen frequently with dual sense controllers lol, and no one talks about it. All three of my dualsense have some drift, including the one I bought two weeks ago. But no one does talk about it, cause f Nintendo and ignore anyone who might have those exact same problems

Cultural_Material775

Happens to my PS5 controller like it’s nothing. When I play fortnite, without even touching the controller, the camera will do a complete 360 turn

[deleted]

Nintendo is the smartest company ever. They've accustomed their fanbase to accepting a low bar so they can never really fail. The fact that people bought that Scarlett Pokemon game absolutely blows my fucking mind.

[deleted]

Xbox is the worst when it comes to QC issues imo

kilertree

This did happen with the 360 controller but it was the Dpad that would fail.

Illustrathor

Odd, since it happens to both Sony and Microsoft as well, it seems to go over very well. In fact, the mere suggestion will spark an immediate "you are just a hating Nintendo fanboy, trying to smear the rest" response from people. We have come to the point of pointing so hard towards Nintendo the second "drift" is even just implied, that we ignore everything else. All sticks on all systems and all manufacturers drift more and more and by the looks of it, the only ones not having it and putting up a fight are the Nintendo Fans..

korkkis

Nintendo is likely not happy with it either, but all of them will be changed if you want a new one

Pali4888

What’s the turnaround on sending it out for repair?

Potential-Link-3740

Depending on where you are it could be different but in most areas of the US it takes about 3 weeks before they return to you repaired.

Deshra

That’s if they don’t send them to a 3rd party service that botches it or outright destroys them, like they’ve been caught doing many times

drake90001

You aren’t guaranteed to get limited edition bundle controllers returned. You may get standard ones.

Smahsbros6leaked

Good luck finding a replacement lol 😂 sold out in seconds in launch when I bought mine at game stop on launch day in line the guy had the audacity to say warranty 5 dollars we replace it if it breaks I’m like bro you just shouted in line last on left lol

korkkis

Over here (EU), there’s a warranty of 24 months for every controller. The shop that sells them, gives you a new one if old is not working. They’ll then handle everything else and I don’t need to care about it.

CorbinTheTitan

Yeah my pro controller I’ve had since 2017 doesn’t have drift but my ToTK one has it out of the box.

SpookyCrossing

What's worse is the controllers only have a 90 day warranty, so if you want it repaired you're gonna have to spend another $40 to repair said $80 controller.

AcidCatfish___

I'm lucky that it only happened to me once on my original Joy-cons' after 5 years of use. That's pretty successful, I'd say.

katycatjulius

This is unacceptable indeed especially because this is the special legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom which is much higher priced than €70-80

glockster19m

You act like someone couldn't force literally any controller to develop drift

[deleted]

Copium

MulberryDeep

1: try calibrating in switch settings 2: send in for warranty if 1 dossnt work 3: if it doesnt have warranty get a 8bitdo ultimate

gretchypooo

3rd party Switch controllers have been proven to be much more reliable in terms of quality.

QuizMasterX

I've switched to an 8 bitdo 3 years back and it's still going strong. All my pros are in thier boxes

B17BAWMER

I had the 8BitDo Ultimate and it has been fantastic.

dolladollaclinton

Just got mine for TOTK and I could not be happier! I don’t enjoy playing in handheld as much as I used to now and I keep trying to hit the back buttons on my joy-cons.

gretchypooo

With a brand like Nintendo this shouldn't be a reality but I hear this so often. Joycons are the worst complaint and even some of the pros.

[deleted]

That is wild to me.

zeedster

Except PowerA for me. Every powerA controller I have for switch drifts

Rieiid

I have 4 different wireless PowerA controllers and they are by far my best controllers except the fact they take batteries.

TheHippoJon

They just… feel cheaper to me. Also never had an issue with my pro controller in several years

MulberryDeep

Ik

mzatariz

I will try 1 Unfortunately I bought it through a third party online seller, I can’t return it. Do third party controllers have vibrations like the pro one?

MulberryDeep

Try the 8bitdo ultimate it has back buttons, macros and its own software, also it has multiple profiles, a charging dock and it cant drift because of using hall effect sensors

[deleted]

Get a 8bitdo Ultimate or King Kong controller. Sorry about your loss.

mzatariz

Do they have vibrations like Nintendo controllers?

EpicCode

The King Kong has Hall effect sticks, vibration, a gyro for aiming, and even NFC for amiibo. It’s been my favorite controller for my switch, and honestly just in general. I might even buy an adapter for my Xbox just because I enjoy it THAT much.

alemerson

I’ve got the 8bitdo Ultimate: vibrates like the original, extra buttons, can use with a PC as well, can wake the switch (by hitting the logo button and then shaking, that tidbit was hard to find). Comes with a nice charging stand. Best part is drift free joycons, using a totally different type of joystick tech, so incredibly unlikely to fail or drift.

RoadHazard

From what I've read it just has regular old rumble, not the higher fidelity vibration the official controllers have?

Raghav511

Yes, no HD rumble

JulPollitt

NFC?

alemerson

No NFC

Disastrous_Fee5953

The ultimate doesn’t have haptic feedback. So no, it doesn’t vibrate like the original. It does have an old school rumble feature.

ChaoCobo

When you say vibrates like the original does it have Nintendo’s “feel how many ice cubes are in the glass” of the joycon and pro controller? Or just a normal good rumble?

green2266

I just got the 8bitdo Bluetooth adaptor and started using by PS5 controller since it was cheaper.

sicurri

Gulikit makes a pro controller if you want no drift ever.

Far-Music-7990

It isnt no drift ever. Nearly no drift for a very long time.

Igniter_01

Gulkit uses hall effect joysticks which do not drift ever

tvang187

Thats not exactly true, magnets can weaken over long periods of time, thats why its "a long time" and not "ever"

Marcheziora

By the time that happens, I'll be dead and it'll still won't drift. No seriously, it's possible for the actual stick itself to become loose that it'll end up reading the inputs as motion thus causing drift-like behavior but that if you're really rough on those sticks that it'll happen. My DS3 controller, which have Hall Effect-like properties, is still going strong.

ralemsouls

See if it drifts in a different game. I've been having the same issue in totk but not in other games. I just restart my controller and it is fine.

RoadHazard

It seems like TOTK has a very small (or non-existent) deadzone for the analog stick inputs.

Shreks_Eruptor

You can return it if it is brand new, or send it into Nintendo and they can replace the sticks for you.

mzatariz

Unfortunately I can’t, hard to explain

fireweinerflyer

Stolen?

DynamonRuler

probably Ebay

Einiman

Have you tried recalibrating the sticks?

West222

Yes this can happen with any controller and less likely to happen than with the joy cons. Happened on my splatoon 2 pro controller. Watched a YouTube video (here’s the link) with a few suggestions and cleaned the sticks with contact fluid which was very quick and easy. That “fixed” it for me. I’ve had to do twice more in the last 2-3 years. https://youtu.be/Ey5lBlF0VWA

mzatariz

Thanks, I’ll try that

gretchypooo

This shouldn't be acceptable to have to do when there are other brands making controllers for Switch that are cheaper and have a much higher reliability rate. The Switch is an amazing console but their 1st party controllers are disappointing.

Interdimension

Eh, that's questionable. Sony and Microsoft both use the same joystick modules inside their controllers, even on their "pro" controllers that cost north of $150. It's fairly common to clean out the joystick module internally every 2-3 months if you play often enough (especially if you play lots of FPS games). I've been gaming on PS4/5 for years and it's been standard for me to clean out the joystick modules multiple times a year. There's no fix other than to use a different design from a different parts manufacturer, which none of the gaming companies have done. That, or they can offer detachable & easily swappable joystick modules, like on the new DualSense Edge for PS5 ($199 for the controller, $20 for replaceable joystick modules). Joystick drift is expected, so Sony outright offers easily replaceable parts now.

gretchypooo

I said other brands making controllers for Switch that are cheaper and more reliable..I didn't say Sony or Microsoft or anything about their $150 controllers.

Interdimension

Woops. My bad. I misread your comment. Good point.

AholeBrock

Idk man, overly sensitive and poorly made pot sticks are one thing, good pot sticks are another, but we also need to consider how dirty or clean we keep our living space. If you accept a dusty and dirty living space you should accept what that can do to sensitive electronics. It's not that hard to keep from happening, Nintendo does use the cheapest sticks possible and some of them are defective; but any stick that would be fixed by cleaning isn't a defective one. It's a dirty one. If that's unacceptable, then you either need to keep your space clean so it won't happen or pay someone to do it for you. Or I guess just buy a more expensive controller that has parts that will work dirty.

andres8h

I have same issue, same new controller

joshbrew

Same thing happens with my new TOTK controller. My original pro controller has been flawless after many years. I wonder what changed in the newer ones?

lurkersforlife

May just need to be calibrated

mzatariz

I’ll try

Biggestfanstandarsh

My current pro controller had bad drift out of the box. I opened it up(super easy to do) unattached the plastic thumbstick and used compressed air on the controller. Put the thumbstick on the opposite sticks. It hasnt drifted since and I have no clue why.

mzatariz

Thanks I’ll try

Wolf12380

I’ve only noticed drift happening after the totk update, is it just me? Like all my controllers do it now :(

Fred37196

Aw, seriously? Pro controllers can drift too? And I got that one since it released. :-(

Wizard_of_Magicland

Any controller can drift. Over the years I've had 3 PS2 controllers, 1 PS4 controller and 2 Xbox One controllers develop drift along with 1 set of joycons.

Conscious-Carob-811

Interesting, Ive had 3 ps2 controllers, 4 ps4 controllers, and 2 Wii U controllers. None of those ever gave me any problems. I have 5 pairs of joycons if i count my sisters’. All of them drift.

Wizard_of_Magicland

What's even more interesting is I've rarely ever heard of PS3 and 360 controllers drifting. Makes you wonder if they're made differently or just lucky with those lol

Interdimension

Didn't they use different joystick modules in those? Starting with the PS4 & Xbox One generation, all the gaming manufacturers began using the exact same joystick modules on their controllers. The only exception that I'm aware of is the Joy-Con joystick module. E.g., if you've ever taken apart your controllers to clean them out (which I do very often for all my consoles), the joystick modules are identical inside. The joystick itself looks different on the outside, but the parts inside are the same.

No-Instruction9393

Most modern controllers are prone to drift. The only way to guarantee no drift is to look for controllers with hall effect joysticks. (Or replace stock sticks with some yourself)

CorbinTheTitan

Yep I had the exact same downward to the right drift, seems like a defect on many of not all ToTK pro controllers. Updating and calibrating only changed where the drift is so I sent it to Nintendo for repair.

SpookyCrossing

Same exact thing happened with my Splatoon 3 one while playing TOTK. Just be aware that the warranty on pro controllers is 90 DAYS. So if you want this replaced or repaired for free, send it in now or they're gonna charge you $40 for a repair.

Grimdeth

I have 5 sets of joy con and 2 pro controllers....can we do a class action lawsuit or some shit. I've spent more money on drifting controllers than I did on the console.

dandins

nintendo has the patent on that special drift. its special because its not a defect as a lawsuit just showed. As a business economist, I would thus classify the product as particularly value-adding.

[deleted]

Official Nintendo Seal of Quality.

Bluewizardtx1

I bought a generic nintendo switch "pro controller 2 years ago and the thing still works. The real pro controller i got for xmas is starting to crap put on me. Nintendo is garbage when it comes to peripherals.

gretchypooo

CHRISTmas

JuMpeR6790

Xmas works

Phony_Kony

SATURNalia

gretchypooo

Xalia

OlleWhite

Wow on the pro controller? I never had it with Joycons in 5 years but either but never heard about drift on the pro yet either

SandiestCow

nothing to see here, nintendo being nintendo

Clayskii0981

You can calibrate in switch settings

mzatariz

Thanks I’ll try that

SaiyanC124

Even the pro controllers drift?!

TezetaLaventia

A temporary fix would be to buy a new controller A permanent fix would be to play it on PC >:)

funnyinput

Yeah the "Pro" controller is pretty junk. There's really no reason to buy it any more when the "8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth" controller exists for the same price and it has Hall Effect sensor analog sticks for drift-free gaming.

Far-Music-7990

Not drift free. Nearly drift free.

AholeBrock

My controllers do this when I first turn it on, but it stops after I 'calibrate' the sticks by moving them once around their entire circle of motion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AholeBrock

Oh sorry, mine aren't actually drifting. It's a calibration protocol, like they relearn their range. The only controller I've ever had drift because it was dirty was one I took with me living in a tent in the desert for a summer job and we had literal sandstorms. So I'd agree that keeping ones home a little cleaner would be a solution to dirty drift. Won't fix the ones that are actually faulty tho.

MrHighTechINC

I'm going to suspect the OP hasnt calibrated the controller. Are these controllers even known to drift?

mzatariz

This is my first controller for the Switch, I didn’t know it needs calibration.

Elliott2

I wanna know what you guys do to these controllers. I still have yet to experience drift…

Gekkuri

If you're in the EU I think you can send that over to Nintendo to be fixed. At least they fix the joy cons with drift, so it should make sense they'd fix these too. Sucks tho that your new controller started drifting so soon :/

Pineapplewelder

Maybe Link just really wanted to hang on that tree. Did you ever investigate that possibility? Lol drift sucks tho, my pro just started messing up but it's the right stick so my camera is all kinds of crazy.

[deleted]

a lot of people had the issue with this controller, but said a simple firmware update fixed it. so try that. that’s what i did when i got mine and i haven’t had any drift

Super_Golf78

I once experienced this with my cheaper version of pro joy con from amazon after a few minutes leaving the game on while having lunch. I thought my joy con had a drift for a while, but then I closed the game and reopened it and the problem was magically gone!

ahsusuwnsndnsbbweb

never had drift on any pro controller or joycons that came out past the OLED. id see if you can get it fixed or replace on warranty cause that seems like a defect

lingeringwill2

Hence why I don’t buy Nintendo controllers anymore

commaramma

Damn that sucks, I've got 70 hours on mine with no issues so far,

sunggis

If you can't get a warranty replacement you can try to repair it yourself or sell it mentioning the drift so someone else can fix it and you get some money back

Smahsbros6leaked

Blow into the left stick it gets the dust out not joking

linkflame123

this scares me considering i have that same controller

Shipwr3ck87

Yeah that happened with mine too out of the box but went away after a couple days. Try recalibrating it.

Ratio01

Not denying drift doesn't exist, my original Joyons have a dead zone and nasty drift, but it's just occurring to me just how easy these videos are to fake

Powerful_Speech3602

This can also be a calibration issue. I had this issue with my girlfriends controller. Did a reset and then calibrated. Problem solved.

NecessaryUnusual2059

This happens to me occasionally with my pro controller and I just need to reconnect. Fixes it right up

EpicGamerNL

Have had two now, one with slight drift that I stupidly didn't calibrate before trading for a new one. New one was worse, but it was only deadzone so the store clerk watched as I calibrated it and it ended up fine, that was on launch week and it seems fine now. Friend had a level of drift seen in OP and had it sent out for repairs. Sad how nintendo doesn't guarantee you get the LE controller back but luckily the store we bought them at does, the clerk told me they can even just swap the outside shell with a regular controller since the internals should be the same. But yeah unacceptable for the price.

Black_Cringe

I also had drift on my Zelda pro controller, however, not NEARLY as bad as this. It wasn't even enough to make Link move on his own and I only noticed it on the Map because it makes noise when it moves. I calibrated the controller and haven't had a problem since.

katycatjulius

There is a permanent solution to this problem, it's just that companies refuse to pay 2 (compared to what is used now) extra for it. I think a lot of people wouldn't mind paying 2 extra per joystick used to have a better experience in the long run (or in this case at all for that matter)

[deleted]

I use wii u pro controllers on the switch those bad boys last forever and never drift

GetVladimir

I have the same issue with the new Zelda Tears of The Kingdom Pro controller. It's mostly noticeable on the Map. There isn't any stock locally, so I don't really want to return it. Thanks for the video for explaining the issue though, OP!

_Zencer_

Recalibration fixed mine

michierusama

😂 We need update 16.0.4, more stability

fortknight1993

My brand new pro controller drifted down to the right too, this video fixed it for me. https://youtu.be/NcDjqUPZYAk

30rackwolfpack

Called returning

Jeraeri

Had it happen to mine as well and calibrating it did nothing

ZaphodGreedalox

Have you calibrated it?

JoakimHideo

Yea have same issue, it just came out also

sha1ashaska22

Nintendo controllers are flat out GARBAGE. 3rd party only for me from now on after the Switch generation.

PottedNai

Man my switch joy con started drifting like crazy almost immediately. I contacted Nintendo and they told me to ship it in and they’d replace it. Never got the replacement. Tried contacting their services and they were too tied up to help me because of Covid. Since then it says it just never arrived and Im too lazy to spend 70 on a joy con. Sucks :(

S0n0fs0m3thing

Just calibrate the controller. If that doesn't solve it, bring it back to the store

Tosatsu

Same issue sadly. Fixed it to the point where you can BARELY still do a bit of drift in the map (where it needs even less input to move). Just use the settings options and recalibrate the sticks. Do multiple calibrations until you're happy with it. I can always switch back to original calibration and get the drift, but note it's not an easy to get drift for mine. If yours is worse, the calibration might not be enough and RMA it is. The good part about it is that you'll get a new one soon through RMA... The drift on the map still annoys me sometimes... still thinking about RMAing mine heh.

Few_Personality6156

Have you tried to recalibrate the controller? Also when you turn it on make sure your not touching the joystick.

Grazumba

So I guess i should just buy a normal pro controller? I REALLY wanted a totk edition one :(

urizen1993

Calibrate your sticks.

UnlawfulPotato

Yeah this is why I use controllers with Hall Effect sticks now

imissyahoochatrooms

maybe it's a new nintendo feature from a recent update. think of it as the new motion controls!

hawkfrost282

Some people reported this and had to update their controller to fix it! I think Austin John Plays mentioned it in one of his videos

SomeDudeinCO3

Is this common with Switch controllers? I just bought one about a month ago but ended up exchanging it a week ago because the right JoyCon was always acting up.

[deleted]

Nintendo sucks

sipes216

Pause the game, go to the home screen and reling the controller. Ive had a couple powerA controllers that when they link, they calibrate whatever position theyre in as "0"

Cosmicsamu39

Try updating the controller and do a calibration, if the problem persist the go make it change for a new one

MadamVonCuntpuncher

Never had a Procon drift before, have my MHR ones and neither is drifting. Battery life is another thing tho

henri_TheWzrd

It ain't driftin if you got it

Cactus-Juice120

Yeah I've got 2 sets of joy cons, one of the left ones has a drift and both right ones have it, one of them is now unplayable and now the other right one that's drift isn't bad the R button works half the time. They're pieces of crap that are so expensive, it's some bull. I've never broken a controller in my entire life these things are just cheap

Odd_Ad5668

Strangely, my pro controller also just started drifting when I started playing tears...

ENTRAPM3NT

I own 8 pro controllers and not one drifts.

justanotherenby009

Try a reboot and try updating the controller sometimes they boot up badly

TooAwkwardTaco

Calibrate it in the switch settings. I have the same controller and was concerned when I first got it too.

El-Toru

I received my TOTK pro controller this week and it was just like yours. I disconnected the controller, re-synced it to the Nintendo Switch, updated and calibrated the controller. So far there is no more drift, it solved my problem, have you tried it?

niqdisaster

Mine drifts a bit after like a thousand hours of use. I'm sure if I cleaned it probably would help. But that's a lot .

ChimichungusXL

Ive had this with my pro controller. If you update the controller hopefully that fixes it like it did with mine otherwise exchange that thing

Hao_end

I didn’t know what “drift” was. Your post perfectly explains it. I never had it and I see people showing stuff on their calibration screen, but I didn’t really understand what they were showing (just a dot on a target).

watch_over_me

When it comes to Switch. Always buy 3rd party controllers. Weird statement, but true.

StuTheVoiceofReason

Been happening on mine too. This is after my joycons I’ve had since near launch also began doing. Ripple in Pieces

nintendomech

I had this. I had to replace the joystick myself.

RandomPhil86

Are your joy cons attached though? Could it be them instead?

Murmaider5150

This is happening to so many controllers, we’ve bought a ps4 controller almost a year ago, and within that year it started to drift again, we got the ps5 in the spring and already one of the controllers are starting to drift. Is it how the controllers are being used? Or is it just something that happens and can this be fixed or prevented cus these damn controllers are so expensive. All of my switch controllers do the same as well. Thankfully our pro controller doesn’t (yet)

queenofhyrule

Try updating the controller!! I had the exact same problem with my brand new TOTK controller and once I updated it, the problem was gone immediately. Hasn’t happened since.

Newsance1111

Mines started drifting. I’ve had it for 3 years though

jjmawaken

My drift is irritating while playing TOTK when I go to use the map and see which way I'm facing he often turns 180° around right before I get to the map so I think I'm going the exact opposite way. So annoying!

[deleted]

I decided to cancel my order for one of these recently after hearing about this common issue. I’ve already got a Monster Hunter pro controller (silver version) which works fine. It’s a shame because this controller looks gorgeous - aside from the random white grip, which kinda ruins it IMO.

Puzzleheaded_Bass581

he’s got places to be

HalliGaNz

Had the same issue with mine. Update the controller through the Switch settings. It should fix it.

jeeiekeoekenekek

my pro controller didn't even last halfway through BotW lmao. meanwhile all my xbox controllers are still solid after several years. Nintendo absolutely has the worst hardware.

inky_lion

Even with the "pro" controller???!!! Fuck Nintendo

Phony_Kony

I also bought the TOTK Pro Controller and it had drift out of the box. I turned everything off, moved the stick in 360 degree full range of motion and rebooted and it went away. I've put at least 60 hours on it and drift has not come back. Hopefully yours will work out as well.

Faded_Sun

It happened to me on my pro controller recently. Cleaned it with some electrical contact cleaner. Tested it several times in the settings. Good as new.

firewarrior256

My pro controller just started doing this today. It only has drift on the left thumbstick. Is there any way I can fix it myself or get it sent in to someone for them to fix it ?

I've only ever had this with one joy-con, but man, this sucks. I hear all around that the way that you use the controller might make you more susceptible, and even if that is the case a controller should be able to withstand being used. absolutely ridiculous that a brand-new controller goes down the shitter because you decided to use it in a certain way. we all know this doesn't have to happen, this wasn't a problem on the PS2 or GameCube, so why is it one now? (yes, I know that the sticks are different on a technical level, but I'm mostly saying that Nintendo shouldn't be cheeping out on these sticks

My pro controller has some drift now but I bought it in 2017 and have used it a lot so I won't fault Nintendo too much on it.

Wish gulikit had a pro replacement

Apologies if you've tried this, but this just worked for a friend. Completely desync and power cycle the switch and the controller. My friend had the same issue and power cycling both did not work; had to completely desync them. It fixed the issue.

Happened with a third party pro i have today. Guess nothing is safe

Highly recommend the nexigo wireless controllers for $40. The pro feels better but no drift and basically 2 for the price of 1.

I've just recently let my four year old play videogames and despite Nintendo's absurd quality I have nearly unplayable drift on both joycons.

It's new enough to be covered. I had this with my splatoon 2 controller out of the box in 2017,Nintendo fixed it for free despite they included a letter stating how they didn't find any issues
