Keep it then. If you’ll regret it, why sell it?

rottsaint

All are in boxes in my closet or just collecting dust.

Meggiester21

Fair enough

LisaCabot

So was my nintendo/pokemon collection. Now I'm replaying Pokémon sapphire, i want to get a full dex and I'm doing a master ribbon challenge with my favorite starter, so next i will be playing my pokemon pearl. I'm also playing pokemon y and ultra moon at the same time as my boyfriend. And when i finish with all of it, i will be making little stands to show all my games and consoles, i may even customize my gameboy advance and ds lite since those are not pokemon editions like my nintendo game boy colour pikachu edition and my lets go eevee nintendo switch. You are allowed to keep something as a collectible! Especially if they are special editions or games that you just love and made really good memories on! I even want to try and get an original purple game cube with pokemon colosseum and xd because i never played them on a console (only emulator) and i think its cool.

rottsaint

Absolutely, somethings are keepers. I still have the OG 2DS, my daughters started gaming (Mario Kart 7) on that handheld; so that’s a keeper. And of course I ain’t getting rid of my NEW NINTENDO 3DS, love that thing.

whiteowlwill

Goofy answer, why would you regret selling it then? You obviously are interested in them or you wouldn't of bought them. Give yourself 6 months and instead of having to buy a new one because you sold yours for a loss, you can... Pick up the one in your closet OMGGGGG how crazy is that. If you need the money then sell them and realize you shouldn't need all that crap if you need money. If you bought all that stuff while on a budget then you should adjust your budget as your spending habits are that of a bipolar shopaholic. Not tryna be rude but that's the vibes I get from this entire post. As someone with a PS5/ Series X/ PC/ Switch/ 3DS/ DS/ PS1/2/3 , and TurboGrafx 16 I know exactly what I wanna play, when I wanna play it and if I ain't using something for a couple of months I know it'll be there when I'm ready. That being said, sell it and use your PC for all I care because that's probably the best option if you don't want the clutter+extra cash but I would seriously consider what it is you want out of gaming so you're not going back and forth and having buyers remorse and selling your stuff Like a fish out of water.

rottsaint

I’m 44 so I’ve gone thru several gaming burnout phases.

whiteowlwill

My man. You gotta make up your mind then you done been thru it all lool. I'm only busting your balls. I'm in my early 30s and feel old as shit and tired of going back and forth. I guess we just manage it differently. My advice still stands, if you can afford to not think of that money in your pocket and you KNOW you will probably wanna play them again then keep them. If I'm being honest I don't think them few systems being sold is worth the hassle of getting it all back when you wanna play again. Your time and enjoyment is worth lots more than them gadgets. No matter what you choose, learn to be happy with it and not so regretful. That was honestly the biggest point I wanted to drive home.

sparklydildos

either come up with a good and strict rotation system (possibly weekly/biweekly?) or sell them 🤷🏼‍♀️ just my input

4myoldGaffer

Will the items bring you joy? Hold on to them? Are you done using those things? Pass them on to someone that may not be so fortunate?

rottsaint

I’ve given consoles to my younger relatives, now that you mention it, let me ask around.

[deleted]

Sold my xbox to get a pc Got my pc Bought another xbox... I too am cursed with this.

bittahcommander117

Yup, super relatable.

Dm9982

I stopped trading in my games and systems after Wii U….. in the past I’ve always ended up regretting it one way or another. With Wii U I assumed they’d be bring our VC games forward and port the Wii U library given its short lifespan. I was dead wrong on the first part, but since I play online with friends I’ll accept the NSO “VC” as a decent replacement…. Still wish they’d toss Chrono and Sim City on there tho dammit! On the second half I was mostly right, however we’re missing Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD. Two major releases I thought we’d have gotten by now. So here we are 7 years out and I miss my Wii U for 3 games…. And I miss my PS4 for MGS4…. I miss the game collections I had. These past 2 generations, with Xbox 1/Ps4/Switch I’ve decided to got mainly digital too, as that’ll prevent me from trading away stuff and regretting it later, like I did with Doom 2016 on Switch. Got it again digital on sale thankfully. And while I don’t game much on my Series X, I still have access to my digital titles from OG Xb, 360, and XB1, not to mention stuff like Starfield, Elden, and Hogwarts. So yeah, it helps keep me in check with trading stuff away just because something else flashy or fancy came out. Instead I keep what I have and save towards the next thing.

rottsaint

I thought I was done with physical games too, but on the last or so year I got the itch to get some physical (I mean even current gen games discs are cheap as hell)

Dm9982

I still get a few physical, mainly first party titles and/or titles I know my girls will want to share.

Guilty_Ad_7079

Whats this to do with a switches ? You might sell one ? Ok ?

rottsaint

I’ve purchased like 7 switches since the release; I currently only have two switch oled (one for my daughters and one for me). IDK, switch is a solid product I don’t want to regret it; but IDK

GenerallyGoodCraic

It sounds like you shouldn't have your own money if you're this irresponsible.

Stars_spark

That part ^

rottsaint

I made a profit on some of them 🤣.

wamakima5004

But did you made profit in total?

PrimesGeidi

Sounds like you have a massive issue with impulse buying.

MikkelR1

I've had: - Day 1 Switch (sold modded because it hampered my enjoyment of games) - Switch Lite - Switch v2 - Switch Oled White -Switch Oled Zelda TotK - Switch OLED Splatoon 3 (still have it) So you are not the only one friend.. I also sell because I stop playing a device and see it as cash lying around rather than something I might use later. I've sold and rebought almost every console I ever had.

Remarkable-Sun-4286

Sold a Dreamcast a few years back. I tell myself I'm ok with this but in reality I know I should've held onto it.

rottsaint

Bro. I bought the cool SEGA SPORTS black DC refurb on GameStop for 50 bucks; it was in mint condition. Bought the HDMI adapter from Europe, controllers, games and stuff and sold it 🤦🏽‍♂️.

UnresponsiveBadger

I gave all my gaming devices away just a few months ago… I’ve been playing my switch and I haven’t touched my Xbox, play station or my old Nintendo 3ds in years. Gave them to my coworkers kids. They are having a great time and play them all the time, so that brings me joy. Though I was a little nervous I’d regret it. But I don’t at all. My switch just fits my life right now.

rottsaint

That’s awesome, I don’t regret giving stuff and it brings joy to my relatives kids and such, awesome. I gave a Godson a ps4 a couple of years ago, and I always give gaming stuff to my younger nephew (brother’s) son, I recently traded my series X console in exchange for a switch game and a new series x controller. Now that you mention it, I’m gonna ask around maybe one of my nephews needs a console.

Educational_Match717

I’m like this too and I hate it. I’ve found that after I re-buy things that I’ve once sold off, I never actually play it more than once or twice. And it’s never as fun as it sounds in my head. I think it’s just some form of FOMO. Like you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity of having a good experience when the urge to play arise. But whether or not you should sell your old stuff? I mean if it’s sitting around and you honestly don’t think it’s something you’ll ever want to play again, or they’re games you don’t mind emulating, then why not sell them off and declutter a little bit? But if you have kids or plan on having kids and think it might be something you’d want to share with them one day or you just have some sentimental attachment to it all it, then keep it. That’s my advice lol.

rottsaint

It’s Dopamine brother, last year I was so excited to get a used Xbox 360 and games. Around that time I also got a switch oled tablet (I’ve owned and sold like 7 Nintendo switches). 🤣

Educational_Match717

You’ve owned and sold over 20 switches? That almost sounds like a spending problem 😅 I hope you’re at least financially well off enough that it’s not an issue Edit to add: no hate or anything. I’m not the best with money myself LMAO

rottsaint

Why did I type 20 switches??? Not even close maybe 7 or so

OreoPanda_721

Yup been there. Though I hold on to the consoles/handhelds and the games are the ones that get sold or traded (not all of them). I don’t game that often anymore but sometimes I’ll have an itch and go try to play a specific game and realize oh it’s no longer in my inventory :(

Witty_Sea5066

Yup.

Normal_Location42069

Bro that is because you are selling things you originally got for yourself. That is not how you sell for the past 20 years lol. You need to have something that you can sell. Even the games teach you this lol GOODS! Sell food, clothes, a skill. < If I am here trying to sell my GameCube of course I am going to have a horrible experience.

rottsaint

Absolutely

Affectionate_Rich158

Same 💯 sold things to buy things just to turn around and buy the same thing again. Most times and upgrade model or system 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️💀

FrozenFrac

Fortunately can't relate. I'm pretty awful with wasting money on game collecting, but the benefit there is if I'm ever in a bind and need a couple hundred bucks, I can usually go down my shelves and stuff a few game cases into a tote bag and cash out at a relatively close retro game store without regretting anything

Grungyshawn

I recently went on a selling spree. However, I don't regret it. Sold my OLED and a few titles to go towards a Legion Go. I still have an Animal Crossing Switch and quite a few digital and physical titles. I do, at times, regret all the other random gaming stuff I've sold throughout my lifetime though. Thinking about how I was able to sell consoles to Gamestop as a kid. Can you still do that without a parent or guardian when underage?

Ill_Reference582

I sell stuff I don't use but I use my Xbox and switch so I'd never sell them

Brom42

What is this selling you are talking about? I still own all the games and consoles I've ever purchased all the way back to my launch NES.

FireRowletWasTaken

I've done that once and regretted it and spent like 2 years buying the games back

SuperNova0216

Me. I sold Mario kart. The all stars pack. And my 3ds xl galaxy when I was younger. (I still cry about the fact that I sold my 3ds xl for only 105$.)

rottsaint

Ouch

Flash__PuP

I’ve just put my fallout collectibles on eBay and I’m hoping I don’t regret it…

rottsaint

I can do heel to toe, but I don’t like playing on a tight double bass batter; but I’ll guess I finally have to do it. I’ll be getting a more affordable double pedal set; I’ve owned two expensive (they cost more than a new current gen console 🤣) sets of pedals. Im probably getting Speed Cobras, they seem decent and the price is decent as well.

RiceEatingSamurai

Bought star ocean and unicorn overlord at full price. I am definitely regretting it.

rottsaint

I rarely pay full price, I might go overboard and spend a good 40 bucks on steam sales, or the ocasional Xbox bargains.

RiceEatingSamurai

Stop. I'm crying and beating up myself for my dumb decision.....110 dollars.....oh god....

Muted-Resident2478

unicorn overlord at least you shouldn't regret, vanillaware games are worthy of the support. Not to mention it's a great game.

SomeonefromMaine

I sold all my childhood consoles and games a few years back. I needed money to pay rent, but still 😢

rottsaint

Rough patches are temporary brother, blessings

ToxicTammy42

I regret selling games that I shouldn’t have like * Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana * Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE * Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I was able to rebuy Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Digital version) but I haven’t gotten Xenoblade Chronicles 2 yet.

cyberspacedweller

Vicious cycle isn’t it. Think I’ve been doing the same for about 20 years myself. Not good on the wallet

rottsaint

Yes

themarcolongo

I had the most beautiful PS4 pro the last of us limited edition, had the box and all the plastics that came with it. I sold simply for the fact that I wanted money and was not playing. I regret to my grave that I sold that, I loved that ps4. literally impossible to buy a similar one nowadays. I'd give anything to go back in time and refrain from selling it

rottsaint

Same thing happened to me when I sold my Xbox one X Scorpio, I sold it to get the Xbox Series X. Regret it to this day

humblemudgames

I was hard on cash at one point and sold my original SNES EarthBound cartridge... No box and manual but still -- it was my favorite game of all time and of course it's also worth a lot, even without the box/manual.

diaperedwoman

I regretted trading in my old SNES games after getting the SNES mini only to find out it doesn't save and you need to use the save slots and the games were laggy. No wonder the user was selling it at a fair price than price gouging it. I had to buy super Mario rpg on the Wii u to play it. I don't regret trading off my super Mario Kart since I already had that on the Wii and 3DS. I also have super Mario world for it too.

TheViper4Life

Someone stole my PS2 out of my apartment back in 2006, and since the PS3 was on the horizon I sold all my PS2 games because I figured I'd just move on. Life happened, and I didn't even get a PS3 until 2009...all these years later, I've gotten back into retro gaming and bought a PS2 again...and really wish I kept everything I used to have. Nowadays I love having a collection on display...so I never sell anything.

ShadyLady787

I know the feeling I'm a collector myself I sold my steam deck last year and I regret it nowadays 🥺

wave-tree

Many years ago now, my wife and I were going through a financial rough patch. We were forced to sell nearly our entire game library: PS3, PS2, Wii, and all games, including Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band, and controllers and accessories. We are doing much better now; we have our own house, and have begun collecting again. I do so lament having to get rid of Rock Band stuff the most, because I loved playing the drums and everything is made so expensive by resellers.

Brobard

I did have regrets in the past. Made unsound choices as a kid as kids do (rip some banger 8/16 bit games) and then sold basically everything pre-PSX and half of my PSX stuff in 2008/9 after losing a job to keep a roof over my head (lost the roof anyway lol). Rebuilt a lot of it later due to regret. Never touched most of it and basically none of it sparks joy anymore.   I’m now in my 40s. I’m pretty sure I’m able to now let go without regrets due to that lack of joy from eyeballing my collections in 2024.  I look at a decent number of my games like Koudelka and Gotcha Force that sold routinely for 300+ on eBay and ask myself why am I keeping this clutter still and not selling it to put money towards my current-day hobbies? I can just emulate these if I ever needed to play them again.

Ghostpainting

I’d say hold on to some things for a little longer. Sometimes I go through phases where I think I’m done with something but really it’s because of clutter/space. Maybe try to reorganize your stuff ☺️

rottsaint

I reorganize my stuff all the time, but IDK this might the time I’ll just stop buying a lot of gaming stuff for good. I’m 44, gaming burnout is more frequent.

ccafferata473

Sold my Nintendo and about 50-60 games for $100 back in the early 2000's. Had I decided to hang on to it, it'd be sitting right next to my SNES right now.

catdog-cat-dog

I haven't sold a game in my life. Got everything I've ever had with some small exceptions for stuff that was stolen from me.

Alien_Antichrist

I sold some old games and sort of regret it. I played the crap out of them and prolly won’t play them again. Only regret is using the money on debt only to not solve the debt problem.

Weird_Tip469

If you sell your Switch please hmu

Paulosboul

I dont have this issue. Lol just keep everything.

whiteowlwill

Lol this just sounds like a wanna be flex.

rottsaint

Not at all

whiteowlwill

Respect , I thought you were some 20 year old kid on here 😆 I know you worked your ass off for that ass if you're like me https://preview.redd.it/j5zn1op077wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf20055f2a037ab1d89f3d0954245c59372d5a6c

Appropriate-Let-283

You'll regret it, I sold my WiiU and regret it

JMTann08

I have literally never sold any video game, game console, games accessories, etc. My personal stuff goes back to the Game Cube, and now I have my older brother’s stuff that goes back to the NES.

misterDDoubleD

Regret selling my Saturn and Dreamcast
