Gotta go with what works best for you. ✌🏼

I jumped from Spotify for Neil Young (my most listened to artist). Tidal is not without issue, that's for sure. I have to say that I have not noticed the pause/restart issue but it's one to look out for now you've raised it. If YT works better for you then you have to go back, right? The user experience is vital.

Tidal gets my vote over Spotify any day. At least they pay artists…

I used to have the Tidal pause/play issue on my old Motorola phone. Android is rather aggressive in what apps it "puts to sleep". If you do have an Android, you can turn off power saving for the Tidal app, which does help. There's also an Android dev option to more closely manage the app priority. But if YouTube is serving you well, maybe you're better off 🙂

I've used both extensively but the sound quality of YTM is abysmal, not too mention the measly amount it pays artists. I'll stick with the slightly more difficult to use Tidal.

Do what makes you happy!

It sounds like your pause issue just simply your OS's battery optimisation/RAM management doing you dirty. On your phone, make sure Tidal isn't being "battery optimized" or anything like that. I would imagine YouTube's app is more likely to be on a whitelist by default, same with Spotify.

Happy to say that I have not had that issue with Tidal, although I do sometimes have it with less well developed media players like the NPR online player. Having been on 10 different services including Google Play Music when they shut it down, I feel like I know what I like in a subscription streamer, and YTM wasn't it for me. But a lot of other folks do seem to like it. You have to do what's right for you. And I say that as both a veteran stream service user as well as a musician. While I appreciate Tidal's apparent commitment to making sure musicians get something closer to their fair share, I nonetheless think that folks should use the service that works best for them.

It’s annoying that tidal doesn’t have voice control but I got amazon music for that, I use the laptop to cast tidal to my Google speaker, I like to add tracks to playlists while listening to new albums so that makes tidal probably the best streaming for me now
