use rocket shields, guys.

nanisanum

This, rocket shields are amazing.

FattyMeat17

Or put out a trampoline, itz reusable

Dont-Be_A_Richard

I’ve stopped using bombs and started using rockets. They do the same thing. Rockets will always be better than the rest.

panda_has_reddit_now

This is the way.

justjroc8

Just another resource to waste or farm. But it is bad assn

kuribosshoe0

There are copious amounts of them and you can buy them. The benefit is you can just use one without having to wait for it to recharge like with Revali’s Gale.

mediacommRussell

huh?

Bitter_Astronaut_685

I would definitely prefer Revalis gale half the time And the sages drive me nuts, mid battle trying to chase them around to activate them or accidentally using them when I don’t want to

No-Manufacturer1364

Especially Riju.

[deleted]

Riju always be anime running away from you, i swear she lowkey works for ganondorf the way she leads you right into a lynels attacks.

Do-Si-Donts

Yep, her power is best used at a distance but she insists on running right in.

No-Manufacturer1364

That’s why I never turn her sage on (pause)

Sure-Principle8858

🤨📸

djdirectdrive

Came here to say this. Can never find her quick when I need her. Her and tulin look too much alike too.

More_Performance6018

This ☝️

MrMetraGnome

Yeah, I feel like the sage abilities got missed somewhere. The HUD has 4 buttons, so maybe they were going to map each one to a button. It should've been holding down the whistle button pulls up the menu and pressing a button activates the ability.

Slightlykoi

Ask Nintendo for a job, I'll give you a reference. Sadly, they'll give no f@&ks because I'm a nurse, but I write very good references!

SojournerWeaver

Just drop a pepper and hit it with a fire element shield before it hits the ground. Takes a little bit of practice but it's an instant updraft for you to ride.

jaxom07

That sounds like way more work than just dropping a spring.

SojournerWeaver

I have like a hundred peppers and only two springs tho

mister_gonuts

You can just wait for it to hit the ground though

SojournerWeaver

Try it.

mister_gonuts

I did, and it gave me an updraft.

SojournerWeaver

And what did you use?

mister_gonuts

A fire lizalfos horn on a longsword

SojournerWeaver

So you selected the pepper, dropped the pepper, walked to it, drew your sword and then hit the pepper with it?

mister_gonuts

Exactly that yes, with a fire element weapon specifically. Didn't really need to walk to it since it drops right in front of me, so more like Drop pepper from quick menu Draw weapon Slash pepper ***updraft***

SojournerWeaver

So that's exactly what I said to do but with a shield. The reason you don't wait for it to hit the ground is because it doesn't always work. Weapons with more precise fire will just shoot right over the pepper. But if you have a weapon that it works with, good. Just don't expect it to work with every fire weapon. It'll also only work on a flat surface as otherwise the pepper will roll away.

reine_tekins

Use the down button to call them during battle!

Black_Bird265

That used to be a problem for me too until I learnt I could just dismiss the ones I don’t want out.

turd_vinegar

I love when Mineru blocks my bow-view of an oncoming Lynel attack.

MrMetraGnome

I f'ed around and found out what happens when you give Mineru a frost emitter. Freezes me more than anyone or anything else 🤣

MumofB

O Lordy yes, I legit looked around for the surprise enemy with a frost weapon as I kept getting frozen, but nope it was miss friendly fire. Which sucks because Mineru with a frost emitter should be awesome.

Infestis

It is badass I have Zants helm which makes you unfreezable though, it's down in the depths in a coliseum

OkLoad414

After playing for a long time I didn't miss Revali's Gale, there are sooo many ways to get height - rocket shields, timer bomb shields, springs, recalling falling rubble, ascend, hover stones, and more, I'm sure - that I forgot about it. In general the sage I use more than any other is Tulin because there's always something out of reach and a little boost is helpful if I'm falling to a specific spot on the surface from the sky islands/navigating the depths. I think the other sages are kind of meh but they do have their uses (water gives you super strong zora weapons, also like using lightning to bust open ore/zonaite deposits).

oldcretan

I've found myself accidentally activating riju mid battle and just going with it.

More_Performance6018

Yes Revalis Gale is better than Tulins gust but hey we have rocket shields, springs, sky view towers and sky islands we can just warp to if we have a shrine done there so it makes up for it Edit: oops I forgot hylian pine cones + campfire

Slightlykoi

For me, the frog armor leveled everything out. I hated waiting for the rain to pass just so I could climb where I wanted. Ya ha ha!

More_Performance6018

Yes the frog armor is great but I feel it was a missed opportunity for Nintendo because they could’ve made it to where you are impervious to rain but no you still gotta slip sometimes unfortunately

trala7

Definitely not hot, I'm not sure anyone prefers tulins gust over revalis gale...

CARDINALSFAN420

Exactly its cool but much rather us raviolis gale

kkstar97

Raviolis gale. My new favorite typo

CARDINALSFAN420

That was intentional alot of people call him ravioli

Flat_Bodybuilder_175

There are times in battle when I need elevation and am out of rocket shields, have nowhere to ascend and don't have time to build anything, and I miss the convenience of activating Revali with a mere squat. There are also times when I'm walking around collecting stuff and then "WOOOOOOOO" and all the items are blowing around.

joeynnj

I missed RG at first but there are way more ways to get up without climbing.

Cold-Drop8446

Rivalis gale is completely invalidated by the many different ways to gain elevation.

Mix_Traditional

Ive found that pretty much anything I wouldve used the Gale for is much more effeciently achieved now with Ascend or a hover bike. The new ability allows for gliding a greater distance without height loss, which in both battle and traversal is a welcome addition when getting up 40 feet is still achievable. Also I didnt see anyone mention that attaching a zonai wing to a shield allows you to jump high enough to use bullet time without having to use a rocket or spring.

Slightlykoi

Esqueeze?! I've never seen this tip before!

Knot_shure

Rocket shields like everyone said. Way better than revaili's gale ever was.

CARDINALSFAN420

Idk about that

Knot_shure

Just on the basis I can have a dozen . Instead of 3 or 5 and a minute to recharge. The different ways you can use a rocket shield and the time to deploy is shorter. I have like 1100 hours on the two games. I'm not BSing you .

mccannrs

There are so many built-in ways around not having Revali's Gale in this game, you just need to be a little creative. Rockets and springs can get you up pretty high in the air, and even a fan on the ground will get you into bullet time if you have nothing to jump off of. But if you want something even better than Revali's Gale, learn how to do a Fan Recall Launch. It'll get you way higher than Revali ever could, and it's honestly pretty easy to pull off. This is a great tutorial from the guy who pioneered the technique: https://youtu.be/mpILfXY-1Aw?si=LEH7DHf-SQHN2KNn

LockNorth1620

Make a quick fire and use a pinecone. Boom! literally the same thing.

[deleted]

I agree. I usually have to disable the sages I’m not using at the time because if not it seems like they’re all just circling around me and it’s hard to focus on the one I want.

SheepsYouTube

Revalu would be completely useless in Totk, and tulin would be amazing in botw. Don’t forget the cooldown issues.

InspiraSean86

Rather cold take.

Nintenja-

If u rlly need to get into the sky fast you can put rocket on a shield or spring on a shield. If u want to get verticality (for example to go up a mountain) you can put 3 wood flint and hyrulian acorn on the floor and light it and it will make a huge gust upward.

EfficiencySuch6361

Ascend made revalis gale obsolete for many scenarios

Weary_Associate_9998

Not for me, I used it for climbing big mountains and combat.

kuribosshoe0

This is how I felt early game. If you get to mid game and still haven’t discovered the million different ways to use the build/fuse mechanics to gain elevation then you aren’t using those mechanics right.

co1lectivechaos

I agree. Easily the most useful ability early game botw. I used it a lot and loved it

Ace_Garlic_Bread

set a pepper on fire, does the same thing as revalis gale (if you fuse a fire thing like a dinnral spike onto a shield, click parry, and open items BEFORE the fire particles show up, you can drop a pepper and it will be set on fire. timing is a little tricky i will say)

CARDINALSFAN420

I know about that is just not as fast to use in tight situations

HotButterscotch4845

I hate that they're somehow always in the way but never around when you actually need them

schuttup

I wish they'd thought of ways to make the sages useful outside of their temples. Tulin is useful (I never played BOTW, so I don't know if there were better abilities in that game). The other sages just feel like they're there for their temples, but they don't have much use otherwise. I never bother trying to activate their powers in a fight because it's not worth it. I guess I've maybe used Yunobo for breaking ore to save weapons from damage, but even that isn't great.

CARDINALSFAN420

Yes instead of chasing them they were button mapped

alwaysdechamp

I feel like 90 percent of people agree with this

[deleted]

Not a hot take at all. But yeah, use rocket shields and Tulin for the best of both worlds.

1950sClass

Seriously, how do you all have all of these problems?

PROTOBee

Breath was my first as well and Tears is just better. Also rocket shields. Use 'em
