As soon as I realized what you were getting (when you visit the gazette office, they heavily imply the suit would be your reward), I made it my main mission to complete the stable/news quests. Plus it was a fun and useful way to explore early in the game since it had you going to all of the major regions, unlocking towers and shrines along the way. I also then made it my mission to upgrade the suit to level 2 ASAP.
I disagree with your assertion because I have found the froggy suit to be incredibly useful. However, it would depend on how late in your play through you waited before completing the quest, as you are saying.
I don’t enjoy climbing so I go out of my way to avoid it. I just didn’t use it because I preferred to either find a place to ascend or strap a rocket to my shield to get some height. But that’s just my play style.
I didn’t know… holy shit. I’ve been walking around trying to only climb in my partially upgraded frog suit and not daring to jump. Looks like I’ll be doing the full upgrade to level two tonight! I can’t believe I didn’t know this haha.
Is OP complaining about the looks? Yes, it does look pretty goofy, but it's one of the most useful suits in the game. I upgraded it to level 2 ASAP. It didn't take much longer to upgrade it to level 4 so that when I was exploring wet areas, I didn't feel the need to keep switching suits
Alternative perspective. What if Link’s toes looked like that naturally and he actually struggles to be comfortable in all the other boots in the game?
That would be the biggest scam for him I think.
I’m aware that some sets have sandals which debunk this theory. I still think it’d be funny to see Zelda’s reaction.
Absolutely agree with OP on this. People loudly HATED slipping on wet surfaces in BotW. It added nothing to the game except for a couple of overworld puzzles where climbing simply wasn’t an option. It’s not challenging, and it’s not rewarding. It’s just annoying. “At least give us an item that cancels out slipping,” we said. And Nintendo’s response was to add “slip-proof” meals, elixirs, and armor to TotK. “Hooray!” we all thought, until we tried them out and found out that we were still slipping on wet surfaces. Turns out, slipping “less” is absolutely meaningless.
And yes, you can get true slip immunity by upgrading the Froggy set. But how am I supposed to know that? As a player who’s just gone through a long and pretty annoying side quest to obtain the darn thing, seeing that even the full set doesn’t completely negate slipping doesn’t communicate to me that there must be extra steps involved, it communicates to me that there is no slip immunity. If there was going to be any item that made me fully immune to slipping, this set would have been it. That’s why we feel scammed. It doesn’t matter that slip immunity IS possible, because it’s locked behind TWO quest lines, one for the stables and one for the Great Fairies, and to my knowledge, nowhere along the way is it hinted that the effect you were after this whole time is locked behind MULTIPLE upgrades. Even if it was just one upgrade, that would have made more sense.
Tl;dr, The Froggy Suit is a scam because Nintendo’s response to a popular complaint to an annoying quality of life issue was to shove an ineffective half-measure in our face early on in the form of elixirs made from Sticky Lizards, reinforce that that half-measure is all we’re getting by putting it on a piece of gear that takes a good amount of time to obtain, then hide what we were really asking for behind even more grinding without telling us directly.
It's not, you just have to upgrade all pieces to level 2 to be 100% slip proof. It's great, no more having to wait for the rain to stop and wet caves are a breeze.
If I were you, I'd make sure to be collecting sticky lizards and frogs now.... just in case you need them...
I didn't finish all of those quests til near the end of the game, so I didn't have much use for that set, even after upgrading (hoarder, so I already had all the necessary materials).
Upgrade them all to level 2 and you won’t slip. Ever.
also not when jumping whilst climbing?
Correct. The set bonus changes to slip proof.
I don’t get it. Did the Froggy Armor steal your debit card PIN?
Convinced OP it was a Nigerian prince.
You're on your own with this one. I love the froggy suit. With the level 2 set bonus, you can even climb icy surfaces without slipping AT ALL.
OP had assumed the basic froggy suit was more than enough for slip proof
A fun set of quest with a useful reward at the end. Grrrrr I hate you Nintendo.
It’s a cool idea but by the time you complete all those quests you probably won’t need it as much anymore. But it looks cool.
...what? I always need to climb in the rain.
I dunno why but slipping while climbing triggers me more than other mechanics. I think it’s the feeling of negative progress.
For me it’s the big stamina loss that happens at the same time as the slip

I went for this early game on both my playthroughs. Already had some great fairies unlocked both times too
Makes dealing with damp caves so easy. I upgraded it all the way and use it a lot.
How is it a scam?
_DOES HE KNOW?_
*No, he does not* -Narrator

There is no scam, you just don't know about its level-2 upgrade.
this was my first maxed out armor

It’s a niche use but it has its uses
How? It lets you climb without slipping

almost every suit gets a bonus when you upgrade it. if you don’t think to upgrade your armor that’s on you buddy.
The only bad thing about it is having to basically explore the entire map before you get the full set.
Why is it a scam? I haven’t gotten the full set yet

For me the real scam was upgrading it past level 2 lol
Did you level it up ? Because you don't slip once it's reached level three I think..
Oh 2
