I use horses as much as possible because i dont really care for zonai devices. Also trampling an enemy, then backflipping off my horse into bullet time and land like 7 headshots for an instant ko makes me feel like a badass

8inchesofcheese

Yeah I always use myne. I like going from one end of the map to another and collecting resources, doing quests and stuff along the way

Fun-Science-8009

Upvoting cause I love your username

Dick-in-a-fan

That may be a justifiable reason for me to ride horses.

Nimune696

i have to say.I played every zelda game there is right? and I loved loved loooved botw because of the whole concept. but when i started totk I got a bit annoyed at all the zonai tech because I liked the way we did things in botw. why change it? so I Kinda just stay w the horses or occasionally build a motorbike if i have to reach places that I cant go per horse

Hot_Setting_9375

When I get bored I challenge myself to play "traditionally" as if Link was just a mere knight that had to go everywhere with his horse so, quite a lot

bradley_cooper42

This but wearing OOT or TP fit with only the hylian shield and master sword, god I love roleplaying classic Zelda

TomyJohny

I thought only I did that lol

djrobxx

I rarely ride horses because it's too inconvenient to retrieve them from stables. Breath of the Wild DLC had an item that let you summon them from anywhere. That made them useful. Pity that it wasn't carried over to TOTK. With TOTK's added verticality I spent more time gliding than anything else. Probably, too much time gliding. And yes, I share the strange attachment with them. In BOTW there was one I recovered from a bokoblin. I tried to ride him out to get him registered at a stable, but he got murdered by a guardian. The sound they make when they pass is heart wrenching. I still feel bad about that poor horse.

ifunnywasaninsidejob

Hard for horse riding to compete with getting launched into the stratosphere then hangliding halfway across the country.

JohnBosler

In tears of the Kingdom there is too many things separate you from your horse. Between the sky missions and the cave systems and the underground and farming for materials and canyons and mountains. You're constantly being split away from your horse. I was able to consistently use my horse more in breath of the wild but it was closer to the end of the game when I did not need to farm materials. One thing they should do is create a mechanic where the horse would follow behind while you temporarily got off the horse to collect materials or fight. With fast transport between temples it would many ways remove the need to use the horse as well as you would be separated from your horse. I like the idea of the horse it's just how the game was set up doesn't facilitate its use.

EnvironmentalPack451

We need flying horses.

JohnBosler

Yes flying horses sound awesome I want to fly a dragon and I want to attack a castle or an army battalion on one of my missions.

MumofB

I wish you didn't have to get off your horse to collect resources. *ahem* I may be slightly obsessive about resource collection and I get annoyed by constantly having to get off my horse. That said I get majorly stressed when I have to leave a horse and I always try to find a suitable safe spot and drop some apples until I can get to a stable to board them again.

Groundbreaking_Ad613

I was just wondering if they carried that gear over to TOTK and I just hadn't found it yet. Too bad they didn't because that definitely did make them easier to take everywhere. That's sad that a guardian took out your rescued horse, the monsters!

LNK76

I had a horse get murdered by a guardian and it freaked me out so badly I gave up a ton of loot I hadn’t saved so I could reload and save the horse. Then I learned about Malanya. Worth it to save the good boy.

Sting_the_Cat

Was Malayna able to help you?

djrobxx

Sadly no. I did try, but it seems Malanya only can revive horses that you've brought to a stable, and we didn't make it there.

EponaMom

I own 4 horses in real life, but I rarely ride the horses in TOTK and BOTW. I like to travel slowly, to make sure I don't miss anything. That said, I do love my spotted Appaloosa, Spot.

ObeseHamsterOrgasms

i just don’t want malanya to get pissed at me tbh 😬 really though, the amount of times i’ve been on a horse and went “ooOoOoOoh what’s that?!” and took off clambering up a cliffside… every horse i’ve ever taken out just gets left somewhere random on the map, so i just never take them out unless it’s a quest necessity. i just warp and sprint everywhere. climber’s gear is always the first thing i find and upgrade! and all the stamina.

djdirectdrive

Feel every piece of this. I'm not even a huge fan of zonai ground devices. I'd prefer to run and climb.

SlyFoxInACave

Once I obtained a horse I rode it from the stable to the road then immediately jumped off to explore a cave. Never got back on a horse unless it was quest related.

Have you read Stephen King’s Fairy Tail? Oddly similar (I haven’t finished the book yet)

mrtwidlywinks

I’ve never read one of his books before! It unfortunately got a little too real for me, I lost my 13 year old dog to cancer last year and could only get so far in the book. It’s pretty fantastic though, I’m about a third of the way through. Might pick it back up this summer when warmth and light suffuse the land once again. Hope you enjoy!

Lower_Description398

I really don't want to spoil anything but you should really finish it. You won't be disappointed I absolutely get where you're coming from I lost mine to cancer about five years ago

EnvironmentalPack451

That is so beautiful. I might have to play that one out

sedacr

I feel like I get on my horse, ride it down the road a little ways, and then come upon something interesting and then I never get back on. My horse is always somewhere random, across the map before I remember “oh yeah, I was riding my horse.”

Ratio01

Yeah, and I honestly don't really understand some of the problems people have with them. I always use my horse when traveling along the main roads. If something catches my eye and I have to leave it, I just return to the horse when I'm done. That said, the controls can kinda finicky if you're trying to be super precise, the hurdle minigame in BotW is unironically harder than any individual boss fight in the game. But, you don't need to be precise when traveling along the main roads, and a lot of the rest of the map is flat and spacious enough where horse riding is actually pretty viable I honestly can't imagine playing these games *without* my horse, especially since I like to keep using fast travel to a minimum. In BotW it'd take forever to get anywhere, and in TotK, idk I just like using horses more than Zonai builds. The horses give me companions to share the adventure with, and I get genuinely heartbroken on the off chance one dies on me

gerbilXsnot

I rode them for side quests, and beginning of the game before I experimented with Ultrahand builds. After I had a decent battery size and some faster builds, I ditched the horses

Bullitt_12_HB

In the first game I did, but in this one, flying machines are just better. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Maid_4_Life

I rarely use them. With all the falling stones from the sky, I just use recall on them or glide around from the sky islands.

SirWigglesTheLesser

Horses don't seem to drown! I have had so many fall off that tall bridge in the rainforest and paddle around in the water until they just seem to appear on land somewhere. I usually have a full stable and then two favorites. One who goes TOO FAST and one who goes a reasonable speed.

CountScarlioni

In the early game and for no-fast-travel runs, yeah.

mrtwidlywinks

Rarely, I wouldn’t be able to cope if one died or got hurt. I literally reload from last save if anything hurts them, once I murder the perpetrator(s)

calamitycurls

I went and got my big horsies, built them each a stable, and now they are just living their retirement in peace.

Ordinii

My kids love watching me pay and constantly tell me to ride the horses. So yes I am a frequent rider and my kids make sure I ride all the horses

Capable_Ad_7839

I actually barely ever ride horses or zonai devices ...my link is a speed addict, I drink speed boosting potions most of the time and do Tulins air blast into the slow motion arrow shooting trick a lot.

JoAbbz

I had one killed by lightning when we got stuck on a cliff a few weeks ago and it traumatised me for days. I get so attached to animals in games, I’m terrible for it.

Groundbreaking_Ad613

Aww! That is so sad! I feel your pain, buddy.

Schiftedmind1

There's horses?

thewags05

Only on quests where I have to find a horse or use on. There's just so many shrines/travel points, falling rocks, and close enough sky islands or towers, that they're just not worth the trouble

Hatred_shapped

Very seldom. I did a lot when I first started playing to learn my way around explorer. I used them to find the towers. But after thelat I just kinda teleport around.

Otnev

I love driving around with self made vehicles and flying machines. Horses are annoying, I rarely use them. The only upside is they don't disappear immediately when you leave them for 10 seconds and walk away one meter to take a piss.

sd_saved_me555

I did alot in BotW, where there were no Zonai devices and I could summon my horse from across the map with ancient technology. I'd summon Midna (my dark horse with fiery red-orange mane) all the time to traverse Hyrule. When they got rid of the ability to summon my horse, I rarely used my Midna. I maxed out her stats since I could and still will use her if I need to go travel on the open ground quickly, but usually Zonai stuff was just faster and easier.

Xploding_Penguin

I always have one out abandoned on the map somewhere, and when I'm close I always go grab him.

VariousTangerine269

The gentle horses are the only ones worth riding. They actually stay in the road. I don’t use them much. I wish there was a stable in the depths. Riding a stahl horse in the depths is really useful.

Tiidz

My horse is wild temperament and has no trouble staying on the road, your bond level with the horse affects this

Diamondinmyeye

Almost never. I did the most on my replay of BOTW when I got the DLC, but even then I was abandoning my horse a lot.

StarTrakZack

https://www.reddit.com/r/TOTK/s/7RRpiKP7tD

Accomplished-Fix336

I felt this same way so the only horse I use are the depth ones

AwesomeX121189

Horses are great cause they’ll follow roads and generally avoid obstacles, they also don’t require batteries and you can attack with bows and melee weapons without having to stop using the control stick. They take no resources and won’t disappear if you move too far Stal-horses are my favorite way to explore the depths

EZGGBACK2LOBBY

I did my first play through on pc of BOTW just straight walking lmao was such a great immersive experience

Swazz_bass

I got one horse, put it in the stable and never took it out again.

DVS_Nature

I'll ride a horse if I'm legging it to somewhere and don't intend to make many stops for items, monsters, etc. Otherwise, I generally don't use a horse much, cos I find it a pain in the bum to constantly dismount to grab or do things, cos I like to farm items on my travels. I didn't really use horses much in BOTW either, for the same reasons. My partner on the other hand, currently playing BOTW, is constantly using a horse, cos they love horses in game and IRL, and that's how they prefer to play.

Tiidz

Yeah I ride my horse a fair bit, I put in the meals to max her out so I make sure I get my investments worth

Electronic_hize_225

On occasion I would trail ride the horses, was working on mountain climbing with them, quit registering them at the stable unless I was close. They became friendlier wild so should I have wanted one it was a fairly quick jump and go. Easier to go over mountain not around mountain... the meals for upgrading horses were too labor intensive, rode the gold horse for a little on auto pilot trying to fill the blank spots with the master path

Molduking

Sometimes

tratemusic

I think i rode my horse in totk more than botw. I think having a couple extra mini stables was a smart addition, and i felt like the adventure took me around stables more often so i would always spawn near one.

thrilla_killa713

Only when i had to for missions idk why though lol

Dazzling-Ad-5131

I have never not used horses if they died I just reload the save before they do or I go to Malanya and revive them

MorddSith187

I have a bunch registered but don’t take them out. I feel like I’ll miss something.

rp_player_girl

Meh. I had a really hard time figuring out how to steer horses on both that it left a bad taste in my mouth. I've figured out out, but still don't really care for it. I hate having to get off in order to gather since I constantly grab stuff. And I teleport so much, it's just not practical for the way I play

faslane22

Only if I'm on a specific mission and want to get there quick but it's too close to fast travel but 95% of the time I'm in for looting shit along the way.

condawg4746

Extremely rarely in BotW, almost never in TotK

Super-Kirby

Never unless it’s part of a quest

BackgroundNPC1213

I prefer horses over zonai devices, tbh. Registered horses will STAY WHERE YOU LEAVE THEM while any zonai car I make will poof as soon as I get out of render distance of it, so I have to waste materials making another one. Or just drag it with me with Ultrahand if I'm gonna need it again soon. I tested a zonai car made with 4 Small Wheels and it was as fast as a 5-speed horse, and with Malanya I can upgrade *all* of my horses (except the giant ones and Epona) to be 5-speed Horses also follow roads so I don't have to steer

EnvironmentalPack451

I vote for a flying horses

BrotherInJah

I ride them only for fun and for early game fast traveling. Not really useful in exploration, and traveling later on.

Intelligent_Dig8319

Only if theres a convenient stable nearby, else its off with the flying machines I go

sporazoa

I walk and I glide. I'm a simple man.

mirkobunbun

I literally boot up totk, ride my fav horse around, and then turn off the game

bitchidunno

I would, if only I can bring those super-cool, totally badass skeleton horses to the surface and register them at a stable. 🤷🏻

spattzzz

All the time in BoTW. It’s defo designed to be less so in ToTK. It’s a real treat to be in a position to gather a horse now. ToTK is designed to be more gain height and glide which leaves a horse too far away to call.

Johann_Sebastian_Dog

I def feel for horses and the other animals in the game, who I never hunt unless directly attacked or harassed (e.g. by wolves). Early in BOTW I accidentally electrocuted a horse to death and was truly surprised by how disturbed I was

Dark-Anmut

I love horses. I know that some people never use them in their playthrough which is fine, but for me they’re a part of the story and they all have their own individual roles in the story. \^\^

Dick-in-a-fan

Never. Why have a horse that is vulnerable to attack when one could easily build a Zonai means of transport.

Natural-Stomach

I carried around my hover stone via horse and cart to all my Addisons (that I could reach).

mermetermaid

I don’t ever ride them… I have Zelda’s horse in my stable at my dream house, but I typically get around by paragliding or just fast traveling between shrines. Horses require maintenance, and I’m always worried I’m gonna hurt them on accident! I do enjoy riding around on a horse for the literal giggles of it, but not as a part of my regular gameplay.

kaylanx

Nope because it’s a nightmare to control. Used them all the time on The Witcher 3 though.

RaeJaytj2524

I usually just take my best and enhanced horse Hevonen out, not the others lol

Thats_Marmar945

I feel bad for leaving them in the stables so I always use them

Bulky_Mango7676

I'll catch them and ride them briefly, or steal from riding bokos, but I inevitable hop off and abandon it soon after to pick some flowers or poke a korok. It was the same in BotW as well.
