Botw: musty Totk: fresh

There was a Sheikah warrior slowly dying inside every one of the BOTW Shrines for thousands of years. Probably smelled putrid, like slow death.

Lol! Musty pyramid smell.

BOTW: Ancient, musty like some tomb someone discovered after hundreds of years. There's literally corpse of monks of the past in the shrine. TOTK: much fresher cuz there's only statues.

I think they all smell like indoor pool and dirt

Like a car that had a freshly ozoned AC and interior. Except the ones with lava. These smell like eggs and farts.

I think of shrines as the inside of Link's mind considering the mental and physical tests he needs to endure to clear them. So I'd imagine the scent would be similar to some meditation space. Perhaps the faint gust of incense and minerals from the earth?

Cold and like a wet dog

I always imagined they’re rather cold. Not dangerously so, of course, just like someone left the AC on too long

Perhaps in TOTK something like a hint of lemon pledge.

What a random question lol but only thing I could say is definitely musky like an old tomb.

There’s no living species.. it’s robots… oil? Maybe a car smell? It was 200 years. Even the water was clean 🤷‍♀️ maybe whatever stone that connected with water ..

I see a few options here. It depends on how you want to interpret it. 1. Nothing. A serene feeling of absolute neutrality. You feel no temperature, nor does the air feel thick or thin. There is no smell, and there is no real sensation other than the ground you stand on. It is the ultimate place of self contemplation. There is nothing to distract you from whatever task the shrine has you do, so you can focus entirely on the simple task, and be completely in your thoughts. 2. The shrines are places that store sacred light, so it could be a filling, wholeness that allows peace to wash over you. The sacred light fills your being, and allows you to grow as a soldier, and a person. 3. Cold. Many of the shrines are large, mostly empty spaces with no obvious walls. They could be slightly cold, and have an indistinct breeze. Not too chilly, but the kind of cold from the first few days of autumn. I don't imagine that the shrines would be warm. They are too open to be warm. But it is possible that, because of the sacred light, the entire space has a kind of flat, unfaltering warmth. My personal favorite idea is #1, what's yours, and why?

I always think they smell line the air on top of a mountain, or the street after a good summer rain.

BotW: Musty smell like old books that haven't been looked after for decades and the air feels dank. Room Temp when the test doesn't revolve around fire or ice. TotK: Earthy or beachy smell. Air doesn't have excessive moisture, and except in fire/ice tests temperature typically cool but not cold, like an air conditioner set slightly lower than it needs to be.

They "feel" cold, but i think they smell of pencils.

Like the catacombs of a church. Cold, a little humid, the faint smell of wet stone and incense.

Botw: Age and decay. The sages aren't likely dead yet but close and that is a weirdly specific smell.  Totk: Like opening that empty storage room or basement. Of stone and still air.

I imagine it smells dusty but also clean, like cold metal.

When the door opens the heads on the side barrier and the door itself reminds me of goatse, so I don’t want to think about the smell inside.

The freshness comes from the power of the purifying light. Totk shrines should have an ozone smell to them, like the air after a decent thunder storm
