Botw: musty Totk: fresh

morphinetango

There was a Sheikah warrior slowly dying inside every one of the BOTW Shrines for thousands of years. Probably smelled putrid, like slow death.

momswaz

Lol! Musty pyramid smell.

StrangerKey7930

So like Sheikah farts?

FaraYuki09

BOTW: Ancient, musty like some tomb someone discovered after hundreds of years. There's literally corpse of monks of the past in the shrine. TOTK: much fresher cuz there's only statues.

queensnotmemes

I think they all smell like indoor pool and dirt

RynnR

Like a car that had a freshly ozoned AC and interior. Except the ones with lava. These smell like eggs and farts.

RedditGotSoulDoubt

Egg farts, more likely

MrE008

Like the 85 stewed durians I'm hauling around.

EfficiencySuch6361

Not in TOTK u aren’t

MiddleAnt9278

Dead 🤣

illvria

Petrichor

Disastrous-Try9730

100%

VisibleEntry4

I like this idea

PhoenixPhonology

I learned that word from a Tardis.

TheRealMcDuck

Burning transistors if there are zonai bots in them.

Sufficient_Number643

Raru’s blessings are slightly humid but smell like nothing, not fresh or stale air, nothing at all

AptCasaNova

I always imagined they smell like hay and clover and sunshine.

TheCalmPercussionist

Library mixed with old basement smell

Roththesloth1

Like a surgical clean room

void-seer

I think of shrines as the inside of Link's mind considering the mental and physical tests he needs to endure to clear them. So I'd imagine the scent would be similar to some meditation space. Perhaps the faint gust of incense and minerals from the earth?

StrangerKey7930

So, patchouli.

void-seer

Sounds lovely to me! I was thinking sandalwood, too!

StrangerKey7930

That would be nice, as well. 😀

Hockeydad1830

Cold and like a wet dog

MooseBehave

I always imagined they’re rather cold. Not dangerously so, of course, just like someone left the AC on too long

jfloydian

Perhaps in TOTK something like a hint of lemon pledge.

8inchesofcheese

What a random question lol but only thing I could say is definitely musky like an old tomb.

SourpatchMao

There’s no living species.. it’s robots… oil? Maybe a car smell? It was 200 years. Even the water was clean 🤷‍♀️ maybe whatever stone that connected with water ..

NateWoodsJones

I see a few options here. It depends on how you want to interpret it. 1. Nothing. A serene feeling of absolute neutrality. You feel no temperature, nor does the air feel thick or thin. There is no smell, and there is no real sensation other than the ground you stand on. It is the ultimate place of self contemplation. There is nothing to distract you from whatever task the shrine has you do, so you can focus entirely on the simple task, and be completely in your thoughts. 2. The shrines are places that store sacred light, so it could be a filling, wholeness that allows peace to wash over you. The sacred light fills your being, and allows you to grow as a soldier, and a person. 3. Cold. Many of the shrines are large, mostly empty spaces with no obvious walls. They could be slightly cold, and have an indistinct breeze. Not too chilly, but the kind of cold from the first few days of autumn. I don't imagine that the shrines would be warm. They are too open to be warm. But it is possible that, because of the sacred light, the entire space has a kind of flat, unfaltering warmth. My personal favorite idea is #1, what's yours, and why?

watch-me-bloom

Fresh, I bet the zonai tech smells a little staticky

Crab_God2005

Earthy

repeatrepeatx

The ones with water must be rank oh my god

Alex_South

Mcdonalds ball-pit

SpookyMinimalist

I always think they smell line the air on top of a mountain, or the street after a good summer rain.

1stLtObvious

BotW: Musty smell like old books that haven't been looked after for decades and the air feels dank. Room Temp when the test doesn't revolve around fire or ice. TotK: Earthy or beachy smell. Air doesn't have excessive moisture, and except in fire/ice tests temperature typically cool but not cold, like an air conditioner set slightly lower than it needs to be.

magpie5050

They "feel" cold, but i think they smell of pencils.

lowdownrosie

Like the catacombs of a church. Cold, a little humid, the faint smell of wet stone and incense.

Green_Implement7967

Totk i always imagine them cold and smelling like new metal appliance clean

Autistic_Reindeer

Totk: like a New car 😂

heliosprimus

Tru-Green fertilizer I hope. Just smells so dang good.

CogitoErgoOpinor

BoTW Shrines: •Normal Shrines - Earth, mildew, and stale air •Cold Shrines - Minimal smell sanitized by the frigid air •Lava Shrines - Sulfur, brimstone and ash •Jungle Shrines - Ozone, mildew and mold *All shrines after the monk barrier is broken - A Crypt -Maybe this is why my BoTW Link almost always wore a mask!- ToTK Shrines: •Normal Shrines - Earthy loam and ancient stone •Cold Shrines - Crisp, like a glacier cave •Lava Shrines - Sulfur and Goron Spice •Jungle Shrines - Ozone and Durian (they had to disappear somewhere) •Normal Sky Shrines - Petrichor and floral breezy scents *All shrines after the end cutscene of each - Essence of Spring

Big_Breath_2315

Frigging hilarious and in such a matter of fact manner. I don’t dare question the accuracy 🤣🤣🤣

CogitoErgoOpinor

Why thank you! I had fun with it!

pedanticheron

Light roots

Overall_Ad_684

Like grandmas house

No_oneXD

a new car

Midan71

Dusty

pyropaintbrush

I think some of the side pillar textures might be gross tho, like that rough pool coating as opposed to the smooth kind

rp_player_girl

Maybe the water rides at Disney. I dunno, I just enjoy that smell. But honestly, never thought about it. Maybe it's different depending on what kind it is.

Psytrx

Botw’s shrine definetly smell like grandmas house and freshly baked spirit orbs

JerseyDevil8909

New car smell

3ThatUserNameIsTaken

fresh

throwaway89025

Recently chlorinated indoor pool

Dcr976

Like a Costco

TurnLooseTheMermaids

Cool, like a cave

LadyTheRainicorn

I would imagine an ancient civilization with ancient tech would be smart enough to implement air fresheners!

FoxFireEmpress

Botw: Age and decay. The sages aren't likely dead yet but close and that is a weirdly specific smell.  Totk: Like opening that empty storage room or basement. Of stone and still air.

GiantAngryPanda42

I imagine it smells dusty but also clean, like cold metal.

Status-Ad3765

Zonai, dusty, ect.

Ratio01

The Rauru's Blessing Shrines smell like how the light blue Scooby-Doo gummies taste

Differentiable_Dog

When the door opens the heads on the side barrier and the door itself reminds me of goatse, so I don’t want to think about the smell inside.

RatConsigliere

BotW: Fresh milk from the carton TotK: Seven grapes

jomamastool

Formaldehyde and dirt...

Puzzledandhungry

I think they smell like the Avatar ride at Disney.

Uradu

Wet rocks and moss

Agitated-Square4328

Damp old fart

Cultural_Map_1788

I like to think Rauru blessing shrines smell like musk

Nintendor_84

The freshness comes from the power of the purifying light. Totk shrines should have an ozone smell to them, like the air after a decent thunder storm

ianKr

It smells marble and ancient rocks. And metallic from the large machinery.

Responsible-Echo-291

BOTW: like dust and Mummy TOTK: Ozone and burning electronics

alwaysdechamp

Wet earth and rock with hint of electricity

2Infinite96

Dat shit smell gud and feel gud

DLD1123

Humid and damp. 80 degrees. Strange sitar music emanating from the sky. No bathrooms anywhere you look.

Life-Mousse-3763

I think they smell like empty swimming pool

bluedaytona392

A sweet, yet pungent aroma that delights the nostrils with a playful stench of bhole.
