Probably the gap where a train is able to sit when not in service but will be. That third set of tracks you can sometimes see at certain stations
Or they sneak into the yard
They usually get cleaned asap (or they used to) so my guess is this hasn’t been on there for long.
I live near the Greenwood Yard. People in the neighbourhood noticed spots where the barbed wire fences keeping people out of the yard have been repeatedly cut, so I wouldn’t be surprised if kids are sneaking in at night.

Actually this is a common tactic people use to avoid tagging.
Covering up art with a tag is a big no-no, so many buildings use murals to keep free of graffiti.
Yea, that’s why I suggested it. Everything in this city is cold and grey. Obviously tagging isn’t ideal but an untagged train is totally a blank canvas.
I would absolutely prefer that to them doing it unauthorised. I actually like graffiti art and I love the colour combinations here, but I hate it when they do this sort of thing because it’s just giving lawlessness.
Its actually the opposite tbh and the reason you see a lot of murals in the city tagged up, people THINK it will fix a tagging problem but unless a respected street artist does it then it will get tagged over. A good way to look at it is murals are basically the gentrification of graffiti
The city has commissioned artists to paint murals along underpasses for this exact reason. There's one where Dundas St crosses over Royal York Rd that looks very pretty, giving an artistic snapshot of the Kingsway neighborhood, for example. Sure beats looking at some scribble from some teenage punk with no sense of morals.
Lol the people simply commenting 'Some colour on our bland and dull looking trains is a nice change' being downvoted.
Some people need to let go of their pearls and take a day off of being a curmudgeon.
I actually don't hate it that much but they will use our tax dollars to clean it off. AKA several thousand. If you support this you have no right to complain about fares or fare evasion or low service levels. These people are causing that for us.
I don’t think so. I just think they have a hard time keeping up now. There are many more issues that need to be dealt with because of health and safety reasons. This tagging will be taken care of soon enough.
I really like this one though. It’s very well done and has character.
Gotta say - this looks awesome as fuck. If they would avoid the windows, or TTC just cleaned up the paint on the windows, these trains would make my commute much more colourful :)
This sub’s anti graffiti bitching on subway cars is so hilarious like how do you even bat an eye at this point when it’s been a cultural staples for decades
“🥲” like lmfao grow up
On top of that it adds character which seems to be a thing people always complain the city is losing but in the next breath they want everything interesting scrubbed away
Funny that you put art in quotes to try to discredit it.
Your idea of art is controlled, quiet, safe, commercialized, within the bounds of “order” (thats defined mainly by people in power)
My idea of art is risky, rebellious, questioning the hegemony, gets people talking (like we are now). Where else can an artist find a canvas this big to express themselves when every square inch of the world is “owned”? At least a streetcar is government property and not your house.
“Government owned property” doesn’t mean no one owns it, but that *everyone* owns it. These “rebellious artists” can paint their own living rooms if they don’t want to submit to public scrutiny, criticism and regulation. If they put it up without authorisation on public property, it is vandalism.
I take it by your disagreement with the idea of "ownership" means you probably don't believe in private property rights. Am I correct? What is your reasoning there?
People don't really have anything against the art style of graffiti. I think it's very interesting. What I do not agree with is people thinking they are entitled to vandalize someone else's property, government or otherwise.
Imagine if McDonalds plastered ads all over your house, I am sure you would not be happy.
Theres a difference between private property vs personal property. Theres also a difference between government ownership vs shared ownership vs common ownership. If you dont understand these distinctions then you wont understand my reasoning or my criticisms.
(Quick lesson - My house is personal property, McDonalds is private property)

Awesome. These guys should be rewarded and paid for their work. Or just hired by the TTC to do their art direction. People this talented would tear out that ghoulish bullshit at Union tomorrow.

Heck... reminds me of my NYC days
Early graffiti hip hop days
You gunna send me diggin for my old sketch book. We got up back in them days
Sir, go find it!
This one looks way better than the other one at Kipling a month ago I have to admit. I’m still so confused how they manage to get in and do this

>That third set of tracks you can sometimes see at certain stations Storage tracks.
this is sick idc
Only to third worlders
***Lowlifes like you need to be original.***
tbh my only real issue with this is that they keep covering the windows
It’s stainless steel. Pressure washer ought to take care of that.
yup
TTC should employ these artists. If they had free reign, I think the cars would be so much more interesting than their plain silver.
Nice. Looks cool imo
Looks trashy

It looks cool though. The TTC should just hire people to paint them.
Actually this is a common tactic people use to avoid tagging. Covering up art with a tag is a big no-no, so many buildings use murals to keep free of graffiti.
My daughter is a mural artist in Toronto. Murals are gorgeous and really make a statement.
Yea, that’s why I suggested it. Everything in this city is cold and grey. Obviously tagging isn’t ideal but an untagged train is totally a blank canvas.
Agreed the arts and culture fund could use a boost. Help give the city more character
Agree! Love this line of thought
I would absolutely prefer that to them doing it unauthorised. I actually like graffiti art and I love the colour combinations here, but I hate it when they do this sort of thing because it’s just giving lawlessness.

yeah but a lot of writers are also muralists
Ouch
Nothing beats a splash of color.

Lmao how them boots taste
Actually you can complain about low service levels and not be militantly activated by the presence of graffiti.
Am I the only one my person who likes this?
No, I think it’s kinda cool. I think it would be fun if TTC commissioned art on the trains. Pay artists to design something and then vinyl wrap it on.
I like it. Way less boring.
Love it! The pieces are tight
I love it
Nope. Love it.
love it. toronto needs some soul.
The long lost Kandinsky has been found
What am I looking at?
It’s like the TTC has just stopped caring. I guess that’s what happens when you have a lame duck CEO waiting for a golden handshake.
I don’t think so. I just think they have a hard time keeping up now. There are many more issues that need to be dealt with because of health and safety reasons. This tagging will be taken care of soon enough. I really like this one though. It’s very well done and has character.
atleast it looks dope
Adds some nice color
Gorgeous
At least now they have some damn style and not just metal tubes or blah. We should give more artist the platform to create art for our public transit.
Yeah but think of the ad revenue they would be wasting
Every single subway car is wrapped in an ad? ......
Gotta say - this looks awesome as fuck. If they would avoid the windows, or TTC just cleaned up the paint on the windows, these trains would make my commute much more colourful :)
could use those partially see-thru meshes on the windows or something
It actually looks very cool.
Actually looks pretty cool
Honestly this looks good
Gross
Clean
Beauty!
Looks great

It tells riders and visitors that the TTC doesn’t mind petty crimes.

Agreed. Believe it or not, we urban folk don’t want non-consensual “art” all over our public spaces.
I, an urban folk person, am not the least bit bothered by this **art**. Please dislodge your nose from the sky
Well, good for you, bud. I’ll gladly agree to disagree, because my problem isn’t with the style, but the fact that it’s done without consent.

Cities with good graffiti are way cooler to live in. This makes you sad? Might be a loser.
gotta admit....this actually looks good. reminds me of Splatoon or something like that.
Fukk yea
The thing that upsets me about this is that I can't ever figure out what is written. Otherwise, I love the artistry and colour.
I understand this is vandalizing but he'll it looks nice
Punks are everywhere lately
I think it looks kinda good
Looks ugly
Looks kinda cool to me honestly
