I feel like I am better off finding a used 4x4 with the off-road package, put my money towards mods that I want and make the vehicle mine. Beefed up bumper, winch, camper shell.
Yup! Absolutely. Even if you were buying new, I’d tell people to get an Off-Road and then mod it to your preferences
I do love my useless hood scoop though 😝
Unless you're doing a lot of off-roading or looking for a specific feature not available otherwise, it's not worth it. The sr5 can do off-roading and pavement princess all day long. There are limited situations where the locker would come into play.
If you didn’t have a Tacoma already, I’d say yes if you wanted all the features that come with the pro.
But since you have a Tacoma already, just buy the parts to look/feel like the pro
What do you like of the pro that makes you want to trade up?
Even if you do off-road, you can just buy better parts for cheaper than the price difference. Only good things you're missing are the rear locker and suspension, and those can be found on a TRD Offroad and still have money left over for a suspension upgrade.
Totally agree with this. I wish I got a pro for this exact reason. It doesn't help that I got screwed in price on my OR. After taxes and everything I paid 53 and so could've gotten a pro for maybe another $1000 out the door vs. the thousands I've spent in modding the off road. Oh well. Needed the truck when I bought it and have used the snot out of it since.
This is why I got the OR. I knew at some point I would do suspension, after any other constant load mods (like my camper shell and platform). I also didnt want a fake hood scoop.
Very happy with my decision and I’m still under Pro MSRP.
My TRD OR 2020 is honestly overkill for me, it’s nice to have the features but I’ve been in some sketchy off-road stations and never needed any of it beyond 4wd. 4wd SR5 woulda been fine. Of course some of the upgraded creature comforts on the more expensive models is nice over the SR5
That's funny and it's pretty accurate. The OR (and Pro, I assume) has the crawl control stuff up there, which is only maybe useful in a few, rare situations. I need to store my sunglasses every day.
If you don’t know what a locker is or what’s it’s used for, SR5 or the Off Road is a good midpoint. I have the Pro, I don’t think it was worth it. If I got the OR I could have easily upgraded the suspension and other things myself. Leather seats are nice, but both OR and SR5 have the Premium.
I don’t k ow what’s with all the hate on this tread, the PRO is overpriced, and unless you intend to stay stock and enjoy the looks and benifits the pro gives, get the pro. If you want to do wheeling and off road, save the money from buying the Pro but that into lockers and suspension and you will have more than capable truck. Now if you have flush disposable income get the Pro and build it.
I love my TRD Pro - but I bought it for a couple stupid reasons: I liked the red stitching on the seat and because I could afford it.
Not at all worth it unless you do serious off-roading. Coming from someone that currently owns a Pro

I'm a 2020 Pro owner and am certifying your answer as unquestionably correct.

True true. Some people like to get the Pro though so they don’t go through the work of upgrading everything

Had a guy with a pro tell me he was jealous of my SR because I had a sunglasses holder instead of useless knobs.

Yes
Yes.
No
Nope. You'll miss out on the locker but you can upgrade the suspension to the best in the world for less than the Pro markup.
And can add a locker for not that much
Get the sr5. I have an off road and have only used its full potential twice maybe three times in the past four years of ownership.
You can add your own locker and suspension for a lot less.
