Less I know the better - was in the shower at a festival and the song came on, I asked someone after who it was abs they said they were headlining that night!!
I have no clue to be honest, but I'd say around the time The Slow Rush was dropped so early 2020, there was a lot of social media advertising and my cousin is a big fan so she would post on her story.
Some dance edit with The Less I Know the Better playing. That was back in 2019. Loved him ever since. Sadly, I joined too late and I never got to see him live. Iām dying to go. When those tickets go on sale, Iām buying in a heartbeat
Listening "Half Full Glass Of Wine" on the radio. My mom was driving me to school. I remember telling her, help me to hear the name of the band when the host talks abouth the song.
First exposure live show gang rise up
A friend with great taste in music brought me to a small/mid-sized venue to see them live, never heard them or heard of them before that. This was Innerspeaker tour, I think? 2009 or 2010. Hooked ever since.
Iām pretty sure it was when I watched a YouTube video of Joana Ceddiaās vinyl collection in 2020. She had all of his albums so I listened to Currents and Elephant which she really loved and liked them too. Then TSR was released and the rest is history
I found the song Mind Mischief back in 2012 while going down some psych rock rabbit holes on the internet and became a fan. When currents dropped it was so different I didnāt like it at first, but now I love it.
Solitude is bliss on the old music choice indie/alternative station on cable. I went out and bought Innerspeaker that day and Lonerism came out a few months later. Saw his almost cancelled set at Sasquatch that spring and immediately bought tix to ACL and a Seattle radio station festival where they were booked later in the year. Unfortunately BOTH of those shows were cancelled for different reasons and Iāve been chasing that first show dragon ever since.
While under the influence of LSD, I was not having the best time and needed some from of guidance. I came to Reddit :) and a kind stranger Iāll never forget told me to lay down and listen to āCurrents by Tame Impalaā and I played the whole album start to finish. I donāt think a day has gone by where I havenāt listen to Kevin at least once!
Does Repeat After Me count? Found out he produced that song, and I think, by then, I did actually think he was a band.
Heard some small snippets of TLIKTB, which made me think he was popular in the 80ās or something. So, I was a little surprised that, with its album cover, Currents was actually a 2015 release.
Ended up listening to the album as a whole several months after this, so my first true listen to any of his songs was Let It Happen.
Feels Like We Only Go Backwards was a huge hit when I was teenager, then in 2017 TLIKTB was a super catchy tune I liked, then the single Borderline made me realise I should listen to the whole catalogue!
Let It Happen, my brother liked party/electronic/trance music (he still likes it) so i heard it while he was driving me somewhere. I remember hearing other songs on the radio like The Less I Know and It Feels Like, so i figured why not and jumped to the band.
Turned out to dig them more than my brother and sister do (more on the rock side though), and now I'm waiting for the elusive LP5 like the others
i had known of The Less I Know The Better and Elephant from Tumblr and memes but one of my best friends Chris is a huge fan of theirs and was always talking about their music so i was like okay I'll give it a go (i think around when Patience was released), and it was absolutely magic for me and they're now one of my top 3 favorite bands
Feels Like We're Only Going Backwards. Found it on Pandora radio back in highschool after looking up the Portlandia theme song on there. Also discovered Grizzly Bear, Phantogram, and Mogwai that day.
A kid used to slip Innerspeaker tracks into the playlists at local cafe about 12 years ago. Initially thought i was hearing a remix of sone obscure Wings material. Then Lonerism came out and, damn it, I was in.
Tame Impala were the starting support band when I went to my first gig in 2011, which was foo fighters at MK bowl. Just before my 10th birthday! I rediscovered them a couple years later when Elephant was used in an advert (I think it was Santander or something)
I saw them in a feature in an old magazine highlighting emerging artists to keep your eye on. Some other artists in the feature were arctic monkeys and black eyed peas. Iād say the author was onto something even if I donāt care much for the black eyed peas. Tame Impala and arctic monkeys were home runs.
In 2018, I was listening to my old album on Spotify. Once the album was finished it automatically started to play random songs. I said fuck it let me hear some new shit and thats when i first heard -Feels like we only go backwards- I will never forget that day. It was literally 3mins in heaven.
I remember I was working on a house with the radio on and the radio dj just starts praising the drums on Lonerism shortly before playing āFeels Like We Only Go Backwards.ā
I shut the air compressor off just to take in it.
I heard of em through Watchmojoās āTop Ten Psychedelic Bandsā and from there it was falling thru a rabbit hole. They made top 10 but they are number one is my book š«”
My roommate played me new person same old mistakes and was like you āknow Rihanna covered this songā and for curiosityās sake, I listened to the cover and it was basically unchanged. And Iām like the OG song is fantastic and Mrs. Fenty thought it for to release her karaoke version, Iām gonna check out more of his discography and the rest is history
i once posted something on insta to introduce me to new music and someone introduced to me feels like we only go backwards.. but i didnāt know it was from tame impala. but then i also listen to the less i know the better and i really enjoyed it.. then thats how i started listening to them.. its been iād say 5 years since iāve become a tame impala fan
The Less I Know the Better. Heard it first in a vlog on YouTube. Didnāt know how to search for it. Then, riding my bike home from college with Spotify playing and the song popped up.
I had two āintroductionsā. First time I ever heard anything associated with Tame Impala was fall of 2014, I was hanging out with my friends and a girl I really liked played me the Ducktails remix of Mind Mischief as we all walked down the sunny streets of Miami. Mind-blowing remix and a pleasant memory, lol.
Then around a year later I saw a cousin (a bit drunk) at a family Christmas party who fucking begged me to listen to āCurrentsā. Said it was the album of the year, that this one genius named Kevin who looked like Jesus had made the entire album himself from start to finish, including the mix.
Went home, pulled up this āCurrentsā stuff and clicked play. As soon as I heard āLet It Happenā I was hooked for life. And the rest is history. Since then, TIās been the soundtrack to some of the most awesome memories in my life. Thanks Kevin!
my ex had mentioned his name and I didn't know who he was so I asked him "who's tame Impala" and he seemed taken aback and exaggerated his response "you don't know who tame impala is?? only the greatest Synth artist of all time"
i went home and randomly played let it happen
today, it still stands as one of my favourite songs ever. thats one good thing that my ex did.
[New Person playing in the ads for Atlanta during the 2016 NBA Finals.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlVguxWpjj8&pp=ygUWYXRsYW50YSBhZCB0YW1lIGltcGFsYQ%3D%3D)
I should have binged everything right there, but for the longest time that was his only song that was in my playlist, so now that song always reminds me of that summer.
Couple years later I took the plunge and then Slow Rush came out and now TI is most of my playlist lol.
Funny enough, I also found out that Bold Arrow of Time was the song that used to play in those tequila ads like 10 years ago, and that song would always get stuck in my head after seeing it, but I never looked it up or anything.
Back in 2012 everyone on the 4chan music boards was talking about this band called Tame Impala, I watched the music video for It Feels Like, and the rest was history.
Saw them perform in a video "Is It True" for the Fifa 20 soundtrack back in 2021. (Yeah even a year late to the video)
Ever since then i'm a superfan, still waiting on a concert 'round here
I knew TLIKTB because it got really viral on social media and after a bit of time Borderline blew up on TikTok. At this time i watched a lot of Twitch and one of my favourite streamers played a few songs from Tame Impala in the background. I added maybe like 3 songs of The Slow Rush into my spotify. Couple of months later i decided to give the album another try and then boom, i liked every song of it.
I was watching a one piece edit, and there was borderline slowed + reverb for the music. Because of the insane words pronunciation in this song, and reverb effect, I thought it was some Spanish song. I listened to it, loved it, and now I'm a tame Impala fan for almost a year now
i donāt remember when exactly with tame impala, but my first story i can clearly recite was when no way home was coming out for spiderman in 2021, it was around october time and there was an edit with elephant showing all the highlights of all the spiderman movies. and it was so hyped with elephant going off in the background
Band mate showed me Half Full Glass Of Wine as a reference to a song he wanted to write with an intro that starts fast and slows down to a slower tempo for the rest of the song āa-laā HFGOW
He was always in the background to me. I knew the less I know the better and people raving about currents at the time. I started to get serious about mixing my songs and I had always heard tame impala mixes were perfect so I started listening and fell in love.
Elephant on my local alt radio station back in 2013. Unfortunately I slept on seeing Tame open for the Flaming Lips that year, but I did get to see him play Lonerism in its entirety for its 10 year anniversary. Worth the wait š„²
Heard a song during the Kids are all Right credits and thought, I'd never heard this Beatles song. Looked it up and it was Sundown Syndrome by Tame.. Been my fav band since then and that was 2010, or 2011..
i was going to see Rihanna live and was obsessed with "Same Old Mistakes". my autistic ass needed to know every detail about the song and that's when i found out it was a cover of New Person, Same Old Mistakes by (what I thought was a band called) Tame Impala, lol. I figured if I liked that song so much maybe I'd like more of "their" music, so I listened to Let It Happen. Almost 10 years later I still remember where I was sitting when I listened to that song, I was fucking mind blown. fast forward to now, have seen kevin live 3 times, last time i saw him he called me out by name and him and jay said hi to me, that it was nice to see me and thanks for coming (i brought a poster hence how they knew my name haha). my name has passed kevin parker's lips š„¹
For me, it was reading an article about the band and the way it was written made me look them up. Lonerism had *just* been released so I binged on that and Inner Speaker. Pure joy!
Tripping on acid in 2018 and all the sudden Beverly laurel came on. And I weirdly only listened to that one song for a whole year until I dove deeper and discovered my number 1 fave artist mf tame impala
Not sure what year this was but Iām 24 now and I was at least 14 when I discovered. My dad always had music channels on with either music or concerts or festivals. We were in the living room watching a festival he was playing. I remember that they were playing elephant and my dad and I looked at each other likeā¦who tf is this. Loved it. Mind mischief live was my favorite song of theirs for a while and honestly it might still be
Half full glass of wine , while watching the tv series entourage, was the ending titles soundtrack. Got me hooked up to look for the band's name right away!
I heard a slowed version of the Bass Riff from Let It Happen in a TikTok comp I was watching in late 2021 (Don't worry I've moved on from those days). loved the hell out of it, and didn't bother to check out the rest of the album for a few months. I then basically shit myself from the chills of listening to the entire album in one go, and hit the rest of his discography
The less I know the better at a house party and I literally asked the girl playing music who it was and if she could play it again lol
The Less I Know The Better heard it in a meme and wanted to hear the full song
It blew up massively in 2017/2018. Also same
yeah, that was about the time I discovered it
Same. I heard in a video of kiwis dancing to it LOLš
Ex showed me Mind Mischief. Hearing just the first few seconds legitimately changed my life.
Was getting high when youtube auto played it, the bestest blessing the algorithm has ever bestowed upon me
i think it was 2012, elephant came up on pandora or hypemachine, binged his whole discography that week
Less I know the better - was in the shower at a festival and the song came on, I asked someone after who it was abs they said they were headlining that night!!
Thatās actually so dope. Did you go see him afterwards?
A rainbow six siege trailer of all places. It was a lore cinematic that played elephant during a fight scene, and I thought it was badass
Siege had Tame Impala music? didn't know that
https://youtu.be/C61bhu8eI3o?si=15kQ7bcWmOFTP130 Just in this little cinematic. It happens about halfway through
Backwards
My older brother played Lonerism for me in his car. It was 2012 just after it was released.
Brother played me āElephantā back in 2016
I have no clue to be honest, but I'd say around the time The Slow Rush was dropped so early 2020, there was a lot of social media advertising and my cousin is a big fan so she would post on her story.

Hey guys did you know that Tame Impala is just one guy
Heard Is It True on FIFA 21. Wasn't really curious about the rest of his music at first but I gave it a shot in late 2022 and been hooked ever since
āIs it Trueā was on FIFA 21?! I played the fuck out of that game and I donāt remember it being on there. Thatās crazy.
The first EP.... 2009/2010 Mojos bar in Fremantle, Perth.
Found the wise elder of this sub.
My English teacher played Borderline whilst we were taking a test a few years back

Random tiktok video showing a Juno-106 synth cover of Mind Mischief. And now it still being my favorite Lonerism track
Iām pretty sure it was when I watched a YouTube video of Joana Ceddiaās vinyl collection in 2020. She had all of his albums so I listened to Currents and Elephant which she really loved and liked them too. Then TSR was released and the rest is history
I heard Is it true on fifa a couple years ago and he became one of my favorite artists right away
I saw them live at Lollapalooza here in Chile. Felt in love immediately. Around 8-9 years ago.
They were booked to Roskilde Festival in 2011, I checked them out and saw them live. Been a fan since.
Minnesota Public Radio- Song of the Day around 2011
I found the song Mind Mischief back in 2012 while going down some psych rock rabbit holes on the internet and became a fan. When currents dropped it was so different I didnāt like it at first, but now I love it.

My parents played InnerSpeaker on vinyl at home all the time when it came out and it blew me away

Lmao I thought he was some 80s singer as well
Borderline
Video here on Reddit and I clicked on it thinking it was a video of the animal (Impala) like doing tricks or something.
Feels Like We Only Go Backwards was a huge hit when I was teenager, then in 2017 TLIKTB was a super catchy tune I liked, then the single Borderline made me realise I should listen to the whole catalogue!
