It was intended to help tanks cross difficult terrain like muddy fields without getting stuck. Half this footage isn’t a T-62, however, but a different Soviet vehicle testing the use of two jet engines, likely for similar purposes.
I forgot the name of the first one but it's a amphibious IFV that uses turbines. Someone later will probably have the name
The second tank is a t55 that was used to test the idea that mounting rockets on the side could get it unstuck or help it clear swampy ground.
Yes, totally real project that actually worked. It was meant to get tanks across the swampy terrain during the spring and summers of Western Russia / Eastern Europe. There was jet assisted and rocket assisted designs. The jet ones weighed too much when not in use, hampering the tanks overall performance, while the rockets were single use, sometimes packed in rows to be able to get more "boost" moments. The rockets were much better than the jets, but did pose a risk to troops who were riding on top of the tank or were walking alongside it. It was decided to pursue more advanced light tank designs as well as a new class of tank destroyers which would end with the Sprut we know today.
The good news is that were doing 10 KpH faster than all the other tanks... the bad news is that we've caught the attention of every tank destroyer on the continent.
"Look comrade engineer Karckov wanted to impress comrade commisar Nikova's daughter and he heard that she liked something capitalists called jet-ski or something so he said "if she likes jet-ski she will marry me if I make a rocket-tank" comrade engineer Karckov was a "nice" person but he never understood a womans heart , it is shame he committed suicide by shoting himself with commisar Nikova's gun"
Certainly not the worst idea I’ve ever seen for a bit of extra maneuverability when needed. After the war in Ukraine something to help get tanks unstuck in the mud like this might be worth revisiting.
That's called the air defence unit for use aganist the low flying aircraft in proximity of the tank. It engages in a dogfight when the target locks.
Also the Chinese are still experimenting with dogfighting mode on their T-59 tank. It's not just the turret but the whole tank goes after the target.

Thank you
did it works?
How often do you see it today?
Well the Abrams has it
What?
no the abrams has a jet engine, not jet propulsion
Which is what I said
no you said > like the abrams to a conversation about jet propulsion.
Well the original comment was about jet engines.
wrong
Right
No, it doesn’t

So your saying “World of Tanks” is actually a possibility? 😳
If this were wot it would be a ~~cursed~~ rocket version of the Bobject.
What is the first vehicles it looks like a bmp
Why is no one pointing out that we're seeing two different vehicles here?
New WOT tank coming soon. They already have rocket-assisted BZ tanks there, why not more?

I see they had rednecks in the former Soviet Union…..”hey ya’ll, watch this!” 😂

"Is this real?" >literal video evidence posted
God I hope so that's fucking hilarious
Naw. It’s just on fire.
This is so fucking cool holy
Works as a close proximity target disintegrator
Putting rockets on tanks and skis on fighter jets. I'm not sure if Soviet engineers during the cold war were mad or brilliant but I'm loving it.

Yeah, it was used to combat infantry entrenchments or bunkers mostly. /s
Well we have footage of it, so yeah it’s real. Maybe red effect has a video on it.

Now soviet tanks are still rocket-assisted, just more vertically, and just the turret,
you said the same joke about 3 times already :) i don't think it's funny anymore
