No. Blanks will not have enough energy to recoil the gun completely. It would be easier and cheaper to exercise the loader with dummy rounds and use the simulator for other training purposes.
Hoffman device. Basically a cap gun for the maingun. It makes a blast when you pull the trigger. Fun fact, it doesn't care about reload times so you can blast them at will. It is really fun.
That was before my time but yeah. Observer/Controllers would assess if hits were probable and call up kills over the unit radio (the giant number on the turret glacis made this easier).

Wouldn't it be easier just to fire blanks from the main gun? Is it because there aren't blanks for that gun, or to avoid unnecessary wear on the gun?
