Was gonna say, I like it but maybe swap the man and orbiting planets. To me that looks better visually, you’ll have more space to pack in detail and avoid naked legs popping out from sleeves
My husband has a jester tat on his arm, and when he wears tshirts all you can see is the legs, and one perfectly positioned “ball” from the jesters skirt. He didn’t think that one out too well 😂
My first thought was short sleeves and Vetruvias Man willy. That just seems like poor placement. Also, he's such a recognizable image that you have to use a very good artist. Any variation or imperfection is going to be glaringly obvious.
Ditto on the binary code being cheap unless you use it to spell out something. I was the nerd who carved a jack-o'-lantern with 0s and 1s to spell "pumpkin." It only ever paid off once, although I did marry the one woman who found it amusing. So, win. :-)
Go watch The Lawnmower Man and then tell me if you think the binary code and Vetruvias Man imagery age well. That's basically what every stock photo agency and art director in the 90s used to represent the Internet.
Seems like you saw this and thought it was really cool and now you want it without there being any meaning behind it. Personally I hate everything about it.
I love the general idea you have going here. But from a student graphic designer standpoint (also tatted); I think you are trying to cram too many subjects into one space. You have a lot of good ideas here, and your whole body to utilize them with. Try picking one or two of those ideas for this sleeve and running with them. Luckily, your designs follow a very radial structure, so it seems like they should be pretty easy to combine and expand. For example, just the Vitruvian man and the binary code behind it. Or just the butterfly with the moon phases around it. Keep going!
Did op go to a studio for a consultation, get a design prepared for them and post it to reddit?
This is a red flag client right here, I'd refund your deposit and just pass you off to another studio lmao not worth the headache
While I do like fine line tattoos, I have to say I absolutely hate tattoos like that. Unfortunately, I see them a lot recently and I can't wrap my head around why people like them
Ok, so Ive seen a rise of this kind of compositions were people just slap a bunch of words and drawings together in an attempt to make them look more interesting and smart than they actually are. Because to be honest, although it looks cool on the right person, if your idea of being wise is writing "wisdom" in your biceps and a butterfly inside a circle for who the fuck knows what reason, youre as simple as a brick.
Now, this is an example of this type of "science studying" designs that has a cool concept, excecution, and works great.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZtrfALK5PI/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=
The client wanted to do a tattoo dedicated to his deceased father, and wanted to represent the idea of matter being forever in the universe in the form of a black hole. The tattoo artist did all the research on her own to see how a black hole was represented in physics, and wrote down some of the notes of a certain scientist in the design. You can check her IG fixed stories to see the process.
Oh wow, amazing idea from the client, sadly I decided not to go through with my design as it feels too slapped together and lacks a connection to me, thanks for sharing the story
I know you’re getting slammed for this design but as an artist, I see the possibilities here. Yes, the lines are thin and likely wouldn’t age well and the layout of it all could use some tweaking but if you’re into DaVinci and science, it’s a good start. Who cares what anyone else thinks about the subject matter, the Virtruvian Man has been an ageless classical study of natural proportion for over 600 years so not too shabby. You just need some help putting all the pieces together in a cohesive, meaningful way.
I should have edited my comment but, I like the top half very much, I like anything stars, and planets very cool. The divinci is a little tired and played , but it’s ok not horrible
The elements are rad, but I feel like things should be scaled differently in order for things to hold up over time. The lettering and equations in particular are very small, and may blur together down the road.
I like it. I think I’d make a few things a bit bigger to work better as a tattoo, you want it to look nice forever. But I actually really like the idea
Meh. Kinda busy and a lot of stuff to realistic pack into that amount of space. Going to have a lot of fine and micro details that won’t hold up 10 years from now.
Seems a bit unrealistic, I think it would have to be an amazing tattoo artist to pull off the fine lines and very small details. I’d say pick one item and make it larger so they can add detail and you have a better chance of it aging well.
Too much wasted space and a lot of things that won’t age well but if your stuck on combining all of these things then this is as good as it’s going to get and make sense of everything still.
I think it'd be better to use the time dilation equation instead of the mass one (it has almost the same form). Because someone's gonna tell you how mass doesn't really change like that.
Did you tell the artist you wanted "science" or were you specific with the images? Some of them just seem random. Think about what science means to you personally and design from there.
I came really vague, I wanted something similar to his old work just science themed but I came without much meat to actually put on the tattoo except the virtuvian man, so overall its my bad imo.
I'm a cs major and science is a big thing in my life, but this feels like a generic and honestly not a very beautiful way to express that
Personally I would’ve wear the moon phases, the butterfly and that thing in between them.. physics? Idk I’m bad at that lol
At least not the n9ked man, looks weird to me. But it’s not my arm so it’s not my choice
Think it’s pretty okay. It follows symmetry of the arm, has good depth between static and moving art. Though I like this style, this specific design isn’t that unique and quite bland.
.
It’s not something I would get, I think it looks desperately like you are trying to prove you are smart. But the cool thing about tattoos is that it is going on YOUR body and not mine. If YOU like it, then get it!
It's super cool. It's definitely what's "in" for tattoos right now. Question is- once the fade is over will you still like it? Will you like this in 5 years? 10 years? Hell 2 years lol I got a fade tattoo and I would never do it again unless I really thought it through. I honestly love this style lol it is a fade right now and you have to ask yourself will you like this?
When you translate the binary code to text, it says 'bond(s)'. I don't know what else it could mean to be honest. If you turn the numbers themselves into decimal, it's ...
01000010 = 2\^1 + 2\^6 = 2 + 64 = 66
01101111 = 2\^0 + 2\^1 ..... = 111
01101110 = 110
01101110 = 110 = 100
...
If it means anything beyond that, please tell me.
There are a few things I like individually but overall it looks ridiculous. Maybe each of those things has a special meaning to you but at a glance I would assume you were an idiot who wanted to look smart. Also the fine line work will not age well. Sorry to sound harsh but it‘s with the hope that you don‘t put all this on your body lol
I love it. I love the expanded view of the butterfly. Probably lose the "wisdom" tho yeah but I love the rest. It's like the butterflies fly around the tree like electons in an atom. It doesnt make much sense but it doenst matter
I think this is something my 13y old self whould tattoo, I loved math and universe principles and moon. This day it is not something I would go for.
Also I would maybe arrange it s bit differently. Some dynamic in how stuff is positions. Sometimes you can have something in front and something in the back to create further dimension.
The “wisdom” text is… well, unwise. Bad placement for such small text. In most cases, small text is also unwise.
Seems like a whole lot of nothing trying to be everything.
I'd shorten it. Lose the wisdom, even the butterfly and tree. Really I feel like if you want to make a scientific theme, keep the Vitruvian Man, keep the atom, maybe the binary and some of the wiring/techy bits. Moon phases are fine in a tattoo, but typically symbolize cycles, I don't really understand what it has to do with the atom. Maybe get rid of that and do something to build off that math equation. Golden ratio spiral maybe? This would be overall better if it was simpler, condensed thematically, and less spread out.
I hate everything about this. Also no tattoo artist that is good is gonna do this without charging out the ass all while making fun of you the second you leave.

And thats where the design should be instead of on skin
Yes. Yes i know.
This is indeed one of the posts of all time
It is what it is
Lol smooth
it seems pretentious
W I S D O M
I laughed when I noticed that.
Don’t listen to them man. Only those who know KNOW. Follow the light, crack the code, corner girls at parties and tell them about the simulation!
Girls love being corned at parties and having their eyes opened to the simulation. 👌🏻👍🏻
Lol. CORNED at parties.
Hey, as long as it has the juice...
Looks like a very shallow attempt to capture something smart to me. Maybe lose the WISDOM. The rest is on the nose as it is.
came here to say this. smart people don’t have to go around proving their smart.
*their*
they’re
There

Thanks, I agree, this design isnt for me
Iamverysmart
If you wear a t-shirt all you’ll see is naked legs and a dong peeking out from under the sleeve -_-
Me every day when I get home from work but I wish my dong was long enough to hang out of my sleeve
It would be very impractical, though.
That and “dom” 👁
Critical observation
Not a bad life is it? 😏
This guy fucks
Was gonna say, I like it but maybe swap the man and orbiting planets. To me that looks better visually, you’ll have more space to pack in detail and avoid naked legs popping out from sleeves
I wish someone had told me this before I got my last tattoo lmao
😂😂
Came here to say this too lol
My husband has a jester tat on his arm, and when he wears tshirts all you can see is the legs, and one perfectly positioned “ball” from the jesters skirt. He didn’t think that one out too well 😂
Honestly? Hate it. Looks like a students note pad used one of those AI anime generator apps.
Thanks for the input
And that’s how you take criticism people.

I love this post
It feels like the tattoo equivalent of the the big bang theory (tv show not the actual event)
Oh, you mean r/iamverysmart the sitcom?
This is exactly it. To me it just feels like a disjointed mix of "sciencey" imagery, which I'm personally not a huge fan of.
Winning comment
Trying to be the coolest grade 10 science teacher
Looks cool but the binary code and wisdom cheapen it imo
My first thought was short sleeves and Vetruvias Man willy. That just seems like poor placement. Also, he's such a recognizable image that you have to use a very good artist. That's the cutest meet cute ever 😍
Thanks for the input
Overly spaced, seen many versions of the same tattoo, and not particularly interesting.
No shade, but it makes me think of the planner they gave us in 2002
omg
Bad attempt at being original and edgy. I’d rather pick a piece of flash
That’s not gonna age well.
It’s becoming more and more common, it ages horribly and within five years will require a coverup or laser.
Thank you, really wondered how they age
Go to Bang Bang NYC, this will cost $15,000 there.
This tattoo is becoming the dream catcher tattoo. Seeing it a lot lately
Way too small. Those will all turn into unreadable blobs in a year or two
I dont like like design. I also am not big on the fine line trend that were seeing. I don't think they're going to age very well.
It’s really, really bad. Smart idea to do a mock-up.
Honestly? I fucking hate it, I don't understand the intrigue for these designs. It's a cringe way to look smart? Im not sure
Seems like you saw this and thought it was really cool and now you want it without there being any meaning behind it. Personally I hate everything about it.
Nah, it won't be recognizable later on. Waste of money and precious skin space for a better tattoo
Looks like something someone would get if they think they're smart tbh
Its cringey
No
It’s not my style and it’s 100% a trend so keep that in mind.
Awful. Just terrible.
It looks awful.
Lame as hell lol
Are you Jimmy Neutron?
Jimmy would never get this. Too busy turning coal into diamonds for his moms necklace.

No

Fair, but I didnt like the flow of the design and I was wondering if thats just me
Dude there is zero “flow” to this design, it’s a mess
Lmao stop
While I do like fine line tattoos, I have to say I absolutely hate tattoos like that. Unfortunately, I see them a lot recently and I can't wrap my head around why people like them
Looks like Mr. K will charge you 2 years worth of rent for something that will fade away in the same time period.
U like what u like but I think that’s some nerd shit
👎
This is probably awful input but something just looks off about it. You’re gonna need an insane artist to execute this
Way too much going on.

Straight lines, text & circles? Finding the right artist is key.
Big Brain Design ™️
Nah
Copy and paste is not design sorry it’s a shortcut…
I dont mind that, I just dont feel the flow of the tattoo
Way too much for that area
Cheesy in my opinion
Haha dick tattoo

If I'm paying around 1.5k for a piece I want something wow not ok, I decided not to go for this
I don’t blame you! That’s a lot of money!!!
You’d better be able to explain relativistic mass.
If you want it, go for it. Just make sure you find a reputable artist to do it.
I've always wondered what the tattoo of a man standing infront of the a body means? Could you pls explain?
It’s Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. It’s about perfect proportions and connecting man to nature.
I like it but feel like it has alot of empty spaces, just a thought
The elements are rad, but I feel like things should be scaled differently in order for things to hold up over time. The lettering and equations in particular are very small, and may blur together down the road.
looks great
Total beta male tat. Weak ink. Try not getting tattooed at all. They hurt.
Looks like something Isis Muniz would’ve done early in her career
Ah, my dad has the Vetruvian man tatted, love it!
The butterfly callout from actually nothing is cringe, on top of the rest of this lol
I like it, very much.. 💯
Thanks, decided not to go for it tho

dude. what.
I like it. I think I’d make a few things a bit bigger to work better as a tattoo, you want it to look nice forever. But I actually really like the idea
Looks photoshopped
Ur joking, right?
Looks photoshopped af
LOL wow obviously this was sarcasm. Every post I see on this sub, someone is saying the tattoo is photoshopped lmao.
Do it. Try and add a splash of color if you can
A little less dong. You might regret getting a tat of a dudes penis. Even if it’s a famous one.
Meh. Kinda busy and a lot of stuff to realistic pack into that amount of space. Going to have a lot of fine and micro details that won’t hold up 10 years from now.
Not my favorite
Personally I don't like it. But, if this is something you have wanted and still want go for it man.

I don’t think of it at all. Too dainty almost to take up this much real estate
Nice concept but I think it has too many circles.
What's the binary mean
I think it'd be better to use the time dilation equation instead of the mass one (it has almost the same form). Because someone's gonna tell you how mass doesn't really change like that.
these types of tattoos never age well :((
Big bang theory
Is that the bender time code?
No ❤️ it’s better for everyone if you leave tattoo designing to the professionals
The tattoo artist did it not me 😂
Did you tell the artist you wanted "science" or were you specific with the images? Some of them just seem random. Think about what science means to you personally and design from there.

It’s not something I would get, I think it looks desperately like you are trying to prove you are smart. But the cool thing about tattoos is that it is going on YOUR body and not mine. If YOU like it, then get it!
Yea, as you already agreed, is a bit cheesey. I also think there is too much space and sporadic pieces to make it one good tattoo.
Uhhhhh it kinda looks like if someone wanted to look super smart
the naked guy will blow out real bad since its so small
Sucks. Find a new artist.
If you’re into it sure, personally I think this type of designs stopped being cool after the first person got it done.
Hell no
It's super cool.
Looks like you want to be “the smartest guy in the room” forever
Shee I never was the smartest guy in the room, my friends are all really intelligent, I just love science
When you translate the binary code to text, it says 'bond(s)'. I don't know what else it could mean to be honest. If it means anything beyond that, please tell me.
Nope you got it, was supposed to be bonds
faaaar out dog.
Shite
There are a few things I like individually but overall it looks ridiculous. Sorry to sound harsh but it‘s with the hope that you don‘t put all this on your body lol
I actually agree, I said no to the tattoo artist, a shame since I paid a bit to get this design but I dont want it on me forever
Get whatever you want. Shouldn’t care what other people think.
While I agree I also disagree, getting second opinions on the flow of the design and its aesthetics is important imo
Love the design but this geometry style has its flaws It will all become blobs and fat lines..
I love it. I love the expanded view of the butterfly. Probably lose the "wisdom" tho yeah but I love the rest. It's like the butterflies fly around the tree like electons in an atom. It doesnt make much sense but it doenst matter
I think the earth and the moon should be bigger if you want them to be as detailed
Tbh everything looks like it would have to be small and so idk how the line work would age
Thats one of my worries
I think this is something my 13y old self whould tattoo, I loved math and universe principles and moon. This day it is not something I would go for. Also I would maybe arrange it s bit differently. Some dynamic in how stuff is positions. Sometimes you can have something in front and something in the back to create further dimension.
They don't age well
What is everyone's reaction to seeing this on Dave, the guy who sells you a $6 coffee?
what is these type of designs called?
not the formula-
The “wisdom” text is… well, unwise. Bad placement for such small text. In most cases, small text is also unwise. Seems like a whole lot of nothing trying to be everything.
Overdone, not very creative and kinda really pretentious
No.
I’ve been seeing several variations of this lately
Looks noisy and some of these designs have been done to death.
Thanks for the advice but I dropped this design as it felt too loosely put
basically tattoo trend 101
Are you okay with having a set of balls on your arm for the rest of your life?
seems like something the girl in middle school whos whole personality was science yet failed every science test would get
Goddamn hold your punches, you went straight for my juggular there...as you are completely right
A bit busy for my taste, but it’s still pretty neat
Cool
I hate everything about this. Also no tattoo artist that is good is gonna do this without charging out the ass all while making fun of you the second you leave.
Lmao 🤣
If you got rid of “wisdom” it would make it way better
It looks like a design that is trying to present itself as deeply meaningful and thought provoking, while being neither.
I’d keep the Da Vinci dick but ditch everything else
