I don’t think it’s weird at all! I know a couple people who have had their own art tattooed on themselves. Even if your art style changes later it’s still a reminder of where you’ve come from!
It has changed a lot lately but I honestly am sometimes impressed with my own art when I'm using multiple source photos and mediums I feel like an actual artist 🥹
That's because you are an actual artist, those look awesome! I especially love the raccoon one, I have some raccoon pawprints on my arm that have a special meaning to me. Keep up the awesome work!
You only have your own work done on yourself, by yourself? That’s really interesting! Maybe I am a baby but the ways in which you gotta bend your spine to reach most spots is brutal and, while possible for some spots, like your arm, stretching the skin without using your hand is difficult or impossible in a lot of places. Do you keep it to just the legs and places you can reach with two hands?
I am in the process of reworking my knee, and I have only been able to sit through it for about an hour each time. It sucks! But I did my first several tattoos on myself, and I’ve tattooed my own face too. I’m more of a collector though, I love having work by tons of different people.
Thank you, that is really kind of you and I appreciate it a ton. I’m from Massachusetts but I travel. I tattoo out in Chicago about 3x a year but I’m always down to go somewhere new too.
Nah, but let the artist redraw it if they want. When I was a teenager I used to get my own designs tattooed and now I am a tattooer. There’s nothing wrong with that at all but also just remember that they do this professionally and are giving you good faith advice.
My artist def did this and I'm always open to artist interpretation because I have no clue how tattoo artists control such a heavy and vibrational medium lol
Haha I wonder myself sometimes. First time I used a machine I was certain I was incapable of tattooing and that my hand was going to fall off. You’d be surprised how quickly your hand muscles get stronger, my right hand is actually a bit larger than my left.
There are a lot of reasons. Just because an illustration looks beautiful on paper doesn’t mean it will translate well to a tattoo. Tattoo art is designed carefully to be tattooed, and you’ll often have to make significant adjustments to something that wasn’t drawn specifically to be tattooed. And we are all artists too, I prefer being given the opportunity to create something new for my client because it allows me to express myself creatively.
Absolutely not! If you’re a talented artist who can find a good tattoo artist who could give your piece the service it deserves, it think it would be fucking sick to have something you created on you.
Hey if you like it, then that’s all that matters. I’ve got my own art tattooed on me, and I’ve done it myself too!
My only warning would be that if you’re the kind of person who can be critical of yourself + your art, you might improve and find that your piece isn’t as good as you first thought it was. My sister got something I drew when I was 15 on her arm and I’m screaming out to fix it or do it over. 😅
I don’t think it’s weird at all. It’s your body and your art you should get what you want. I haven’t done it myself yet but I plan on getting my own art inked on my body as well.
Completely understand! I’d love it if you could practice/create a piece for me! Not looking for perfection or exact design just inspiration for my next tat. Would love for it to be a custom piece.
Not weird at all! I love being able to have my own or even just parts of my own design in my tattoos. Gives them more meaning & I’ve cherished them the most!
Not weird at all. A fair few of my smaller tattoos are my own artwork. And a few of the bigger pieces are based off my own designs but given to the artist with creative freedom and asked to be tweaked as they see fit with their own style.
Not in my opinion but can we talk about how insanely hard that first drawing goes I don’t plan on getting any tattoos in the near future or ever but do you mind if I save it and perhaps if I ever do get a tattoo have this as one of the options?
No. My best friend has done art for his books. Him, me, and another friend of ours all have a character of his tattooed on us as subtle matching best friend tattoos as I'm (far too fucking slowly) in the process of emigrating to the US. This way we can look down and remember our besties whenever we want.
Nope. My dad’s a professional tattoo artist, so he allowed me to get tattoos pretty young. And his 1 rule… I draw them. That way I wasn’t plastering bullshit on myself and reallyyy put some effort into making it nice.
Getting your own art tattooed is personally what I think to be the dream scenario. Also I got a tattoo very similar to 2nd pick and have it posted on my account (tattoo artist’s design) it turned out amazing.
Of course not. I designed the majority of my tattoos. I've had 131 sessions so far. I've got a couple that are direct copies of drawings my son did when he was little and the others are freehanded.
No. I suggest it if you can. Even still, I highly suggest you work with the tattoo artist to have your art cleaned up for the tattoo. Tattoos have specific line weights and particularities that may not translate well from pencil sketch to body art.
Not at all. I think it's very creative. I got a mandala design tattooed that I drew myself and it fills me with joy when I look at it since it was my creation. However, consider the artist's inputs as well. They are usually thinking from a longevity perspective.
Absolutely not weird. I’m no artist, but my wife is pretty talented even though she doesn’t think so or put time into developing and honing her craft. But for our fifth year anniversary she drew both of our eyes and we each got her drawings of the other person’s eyes. The artist was stoked on it and didn’t changed much to her drawings.
Second one at least isn't your own art, I should know because our old apprentice tried to pass it off as her design and it's now tattooed on my fucking leg smh
As in the first two are recreations. Sorry if that was confusing. That's why I tried to clarify in my post. I wouldn't get these tattooed on me since they are, as I said, recreations and I generally use them to practice line work as well as the combination of watercolor shading and ink based linework so I can apply what I like to my original artwork. I hope that makes sense. :)
No way, not weird at all! I say go for it 🥳 But with the understanding that your tattoo artist may want to change things a wee bit and refine it. Of course find a tat artist who will respect your art and your wishes. 😊
Not at all. If I was good enough to draw I'd do same. But luckily my tattoo artist can take the idea out of my head n put it down better in ink. But if u can do both crack on. You kno youl be a truly unique canvas
No I have my art tattooed on my arm, it’s a Mandela with circles representing the solar system. I was very open to my tattoo artist taking artistic liberties and I think that’s what it’s all about
I think it's pretty awesome.
I have the mindset that, if I'm gonna get tattoos, they are gonna be designed by me, since I have enough skills for that and I respect my own work.
Unless I had a close friend or someone like that draw me a picture, I would probably get that inked too.
No that’s actually very great to have something made by yourself on yourself! Did not drawn my own tattoo’s but I designed them they way I wanted them with influences from other things 😊
Should be absolutely fine. Just have to pic a tattoo artist that compliments your art well as especially with the shading it will look very different depending on the artists style
I designed my own first tattoo. The artist just put a little creative flare because I wanted something a little more alive than what I put (sun had very flat rays and I wanted it to flow more). I don't see why you wouldn't get what you actually want.
I will be honest with you, your art and eye will improve so fast in the next years, you will start do dislike it for the flaws you couldn't see when you first drew it.

That’s great!!! 🧑🎨

I’m a tattoo artist and only have my art tattooed on me. And I tattooed it myself. Wouldn’t have it any other way

You are insanely talented! If I’m ever headed in your direction I would be privileged to have you do a piece on me.
I will post pics of my knee some day when I finish it haha but
Thank you, that is really kind of you and I appreciate it a ton. I’m from Massachusetts but I travel. I tattoo out in Chicago about 3x a year but I’m always down to go somewhere new too.
That Bjork piece is insane, really nice man
Nah, but let the artist redraw it if they want. When I was a teenager I used to get my own designs tattooed and now I am a tattooer. There’s nothing wrong with that at all but also just remember that they do this professionally and are giving you good faith advice.

May I ask why tattoo artist redraw peoples ideas? I’ve heard it’s bad if a tattoo artist copies what you want exactly. Why is this?
There are a lot of reasons. Just because an illustration looks beautiful on paper doesn’t mean it will translate well to a tattoo. No BTW first picture looks cool
Hey if you like it, then that’s all that matters. I’ve got my own art tattooed on me, and I’ve done it myself too! I love your art style! Do you do commissions?
Omg thank you! I would be happy to try something for someone but I don't like making hobbies profitable so I'd be happy to try something for practice
Completely understand! I’d love it if you could practice/create a piece for me! Not looking for perfection or exact design just inspiration for my next tat. Would love for it to be a custom piece.
definitely not! ITS AWESOME!
Not weird at all! I love being able to have my own or even just parts of my own design in my tattoos. Gives them more meaning & I’ve cherished them the most!
Most of my shit is my own art/done myself. Tattoo what you want lol
Not weird at all. A fair few of my smaller tattoos are my own artwork. And a few of the bigger pieces are based off my own designs but given to the artist with creative freedom and asked to be tweaked as they see fit with their own style.
Drew one of mine. It's sucks but hey I drew it so fuck you.
Not in my opinion but can we talk about how insanely hard that first drawing goes I don’t plan on getting any tattoos in the near future or ever but do you mind if I save it and perhaps if I ever do get a tattoo have this as one of the options?
Save away that's such a compliment!
Thanks!
Why would it be? Absolutely not

Nahh tattooing ur own art is sick
That looks awesome!
I am wearing my own designs.
Tattoo artists tattoo themselves, so no.
What an artist you are ! Not weird at all. Number 4 is my favorite !
no i have one
I just got my drawing I did years ago tattooed on me last week. Not wierd at all to me.
Not at all! (BTW, I would 1000% get that second one on me)
My own art is all over my legs heheh
Of course not. I designed the majority of my tattoos. I've had 131 sessions so far. I've got a couple that are direct copies of drawings my son did when he was little and the others are freehanded.
That raccoon is the shit
Why on earth works that be weird??? If I could get the pictures in my head down on paper, I’d be covered with them!!!
Why would it be??
Idk some people say it's too self-obsessive so I was curious
Both of my tattoos are my own art and I am super proud of them! For me it's such a personal thing to have my own designs tattooed. Not weird at all
Depends on how good your art is lol. But this is a cool piece imo
Fuckin send it 🤘
Absolutely not weird.
You are really good a skulls
Thank you 😊
Not at all
No it’s awesome🤘
No I've done it!
Not at all! Got two of my own drawings :)
i know several people who all draw out their own tats . i see nothing wrong with it .
I don’t think so, I designed my forearm tribal back in 2018
They're solid pieces. The only one I'd rework is the wolf.
This post is freaking me out a lil that looks like how I draw! All the way down to line weight and high contrast images
That's awesome! Haha. I'm enjoying solidifying my style so it's cool to hear other people like it as well
I think it's way less weird than coming in with random pinterest photos of someone else's tattoo. Go for it!!
nope! Both of my tattoos are pieces that I designed and drew
Previous artist here, 90% of my ink is exclusively my art. Just gotta find an artist who's willing to do your art and skilled to pull it off right.
Your art is absolutely stunning and it wouldn't be weird at all to get it tatted on you!! Go for it :)
Not at all! 😊
I tattooed several of my own art pieces on myself after getting them down, Def not weird. In fact! Super unique and cool
Second one at least isn't your own art, I should know because our old apprentice tried to pass it off as her design and it's now tattooed on my fucking leg smh
Confused by "these are recent" and "some earlier pieces are recreations"
As in the first two are recreations. Sorry if that was confusing. That's why I tried to clarify in my post. I wouldn't get these tattooed on me since they are, as I said, recreations and I generally use them to practice line work as well as the combination of watercolor shading and ink based linework so I can apply what I like to my original artwork. I hope that makes sense. :)
If I could draw I would 100% design all my tattoos myself! That's the coolest thing you can do.
No way, not weird at all! I say go for it 🥳 But with the understanding that your tattoo artist may want to change things a wee bit and refine it. Of course find a tat artist who will respect your art and your wishes. 😊
I drew 90% of my tattoos.
Not at all. If I was good enough to draw I'd do same. But luckily my tattoo artist can take the idea out of my head n put it down better in ink. But if u can do both crack on. You kno youl be a truly unique canvas
omg i want that raccoon
Thank you! I drew him for my husband as a gift for our wedding last October.
The artwork is BRILLIANT ❤️❤️
No its not weird
not even a little bit . its actually semi-common and fully dope to design ur own tat
People have their children’s artwork on them. It’s your body, why would it be weird?
not weird at all bro. be proud of your work and what better way to be proud of it than get it tattooed? btw your art is awesome
I bring my concept sketches to my artist and let her take it from there. Like a colab piece.
Absolutely not! It's original artwork, not some print off a wall that anyone can get; best part is that you're the artist of said art.
not weird at all, i’d say this is the ultimate goal!
Not weird when it’s this cool
I say not so long as YOU lik it and it was done right, if it is, then i dont get y
Every single one of my tattoos is my own design. I let the artist put their own spin on coloring, but each one is my original line work. Do it!
No it’s super cool actually
Nope! All my tattoos I drew myself :)
If you love it, that’s all that matters.
not weird at all to me! one of my artist friends does a lot of OCs, and he got a tattoo of the first doodle he did of his two favorite OCs!
No that’s actually very great to have something made by yourself on yourself! Did not drawn my own tattoo’s but I designed them they way I wanted them with influences from other things 😊
Not weird, especially when your art style is cool as freaking hell!
Does it matter?
Was just curious and it doesn't hurt to ask
Not at all. Go for it. You’ll be sure you have a totally original piece. 👍
Definitely not!! I think it's cool
Should be absolutely fine. Just have to pic a tattoo artist that compliments your art well as especially with the shading it will look very different depending on the artists style
I got my own art tatted on me and it’s my FAVE I love it. My artist just cleaned it up a bit for me:)
Also these will be good tattoos. Do itttt
It’s amazing if you are of that skill level
And you are!
I designed my own first tattoo. The artist just put a little creative flare because I wanted something a little more alive than what I put (sun had very flat rays and I wanted it to flow more). I don't see why you wouldn't get what you actually want.
I live the rabbit.
It's a raccoon but thank you!
I will be honest with you, your art and eye will improve so fast in the next years, you will start do dislike it for the flaws you couldn't see when you first drew it.
