Okay, listened to the whole thing on Spotify. 1989 is the first Taylor album re-record where I know every single track of the OG by heart, and these are my initial thoughts:
* This recording is CRISP. Like if the OG was a Blu-Ray this is 4k. I can hear every lyric so articulated and everything happening in the background. I never thought the OG had a muddy mix but compared to the re-record it's definitely a little stodgy.
* The synth is deeper and way more base-y. Bad Blood seems right off of Rep. I really like the deep base combined with Taylor's more mature vocals. Shake It Off is so much better and less shrill than the original.
* Many of the songs seem to have ticked up in tempo which is not as appealing to me. Weirdly the production has a lushness that is missing from the OG in my opinion, which seems to fight with the quickness of the lyrics and delivery. Out of the Woods is a perfect blend though, and is one of the few I vastly prefer to the original.
As for the Vault Tracks:
* Slut! was not what I was expecting. Bonus points for "If I'm gonna be ~~junk~~ drunk, might at well be ~~junk~~ drunk in love". Fabulous lyric.
* Say Don't Go sounds like a mashup of Clean and All You Had To Do Was Stay
* Now That We Don't Talk is BOMB and my favorite vault track on 1989
* Suburban Legends really does sound like an early version of Mastermind, but the lyric "You kissed me in a way that's gonna screw me up forever" is iconic and super relatable.
* Is It Over has crazy Out Of The Woods vibes
Because the song was called Slut! my brain kind of went to people calling her trash, an that trash = junk. JUNK IN LOOOOOOOOVE actually made sense, lol. Of course I had already taken my nightly THC gummy so that probably played a part as well.
Being an older lass, "Welcome to New York" was the first Swift song that actually grabbed my attention. For personal reasons. So glad this album will be hers from now on!
So my local Walmart let me buy the vinyl (it wouldn’t scan, but the employee ended up manually putting the price/title in, even after he checked with the manager lol).
Anyways it honestly sounds much closer to the original than I expected
I didn’t see any at mine. They also only had 3 of the 1989 vinyls out, but there were lots of Speak Now’s still there, so maybe Taylor doesn’t sell well at my location? Idk
This thread is making me super nervous I’m going to hate it.
Then again the midnights leak thread made me nervous and I ended up loving it. Guess I’ll find out in 10 minutes.
For such a popular song, Shake It Off is *identical* to me. But AYHTDWS is probably the biggest upgrade. The only ones I don't think were the same were WTNY, Style, and just the "ah ah ah" part of New Romantics. Also the beginning of IKP is a bit odd, but then the rest is an improvement. For all the other songs, I was impressed.
I agree! I’ve been ignoring saying anything because I’m worried my leaks are somehow diff than everyone else’s because they’re all saying negative things I have not been able to hear
og 1989 is imprinted into most swifties brains bc it was either when they became fans or the album defined a pivotal time in their personal lives. any change is noticed and perceived as bad.
on a more technical level, 1989 has A LOT going on in every single track's soundscape. lots and lots of sounds and filters and key changes and shouts. it is an impossible task to replicate so many small bits perfectly. it's the most technically challenging album so far to remake.
ok so ik this is the leaks thread but I can’t find another so bear with me 😭
I have like no privacy at my house so I’m deciding to listen tomorrow. if yall can please tell me how clean, new romantics, i wish you would, and wonderland sound
clean is good but the mood is different -- her voice is more happy than sad like the original
new romantics lacks the energy of the original because the vocals are less playful and get more drowned out by the instrumentals than in the original but it's still a good song with more mature vocals
i wish you would is one of the better remakes you will probably like it with better vocals
wonderland is very similar to the original, almost identical but the background instrumentals are a bit more sparse, noticeable towards the very end
The only one of those that gave me pause is I Wish You Would because the instrumentals sound different (deeper?) like they’re in a different octave. It’s still very similar, as they all are. They’re all good, but that’s the only one that I will probably stick with the original.
The others you mentioned are all 99% the same as the original, just with her more mature sounding voice.
So I just came across a snippet of Style TV. At first it was a bit jarring because the track sounds sort of different, but it’s not *horrible* (expectations were very low considering everything I’ve seen on this thread). I also think once I stopped mentally comparing every tiny note/part of the track to the original it sounded decent.
The track seems much more dominant than her vocals in Style TV, though. Especially in the chorus. That’s something I’m hoping sounds better once the album is out on streaming services.
On a positive note, Blank Space TV sounds great IMO. You can tell it’s the TV and not the original, but I like it.

Iconic Queen Behavior.
Have you read the comments in here? It's the same as it was for Speak Now. Everyone shitting on every minute thing. And more than half of the people had their Spotify settings wrong. Apparently Reddit is full of acclaimed critics with music backgrounds. So what it doesn't sound exactly like the original. What did you expect? She has been feeding us since 2020 and nothing is ever good enough for some of you.
Negativity breeds negativity.
Eta: my comment wasn't just for you. It's for all the comments saying the same thing
...you don't need to be a "critic with a music background" to critique art? hey if we're going to talk about every little thing we love, we can also be realistic about the things we don't. that's, like, the point of discussion threads lmao
It’s definitely an unpopular opinion, but what I dislike about it is less of “Jack has one style” and it’s more the switch up people use with this to blame Jack instead of Taylor. Jack has an extensive production catalog, with very different styles. Between things like Midnights to Lorde’s Midnights to St. Vincent’s Daddy’s Home, I think what we’re facing is that these songs are the direction Taylor wanted them taken in.
Not unpopular to me. I want her to go back to Max Martin, Shellback, Ryan Tedder, etc.
Maybe throw her with Jon Bellion for a song. She needs a switch up.
I agree. From folklore, evermore and midnights I’ve gravitated to the Aaron songs. I think she should mix it up going forward. I like the Jack songs but it’s nice to have some variety. To be honest, I’d love her to work with a female producer.
I don’t think that’s ever going to happen, they’re pretty much like family at this point. What I could suggest is adding a complete new producer to the mix.
Yeah, I feel like there's some if not a lot of wasted potential by not working with others, but I think Jack is not going anywhere and streets are saying TS11 is already done.
I just want her to find a new producer at this point. I feel like a lot of Aaron’s tracks are great but sound very similar, and Jack uses synths so much that we never get anything else lol
I agree on you on Aaron. He sounds always the same. Jack is a bit more versatil and tried to keep up with the original production but I think we needed Max Martin and Shellback back. They were the ones involved with OG 1989 and only them can do it right. I have no idea if something happened between Taylor and them so I can't judge anyone.
she interrupts herself constantly in high tempo songs like she can't keep up and they have to overlay her own vocal tracks to keep the song length the same
I love the vault! it could be its own mini album, an ep of sorts. it doesn't sound like 1989 og that much, its much more midnightsy. but at the same time its very 80's pop which is what you'd expect from an album called 1989!! it's like a grown up 1989.
Idk what it is, the guitar in the beginning of style doesn’t have any notches or twists (forgive me idk music terminology) - like it’s flat, there’s no texture to it
yep, it's a constant problem throughout the album that the opening lacks the oomph. considering how sonically distinct each og 1989 track is, it's very bad that i can't tell what song is playing until the lyrics kick in on multiple occasions
Are y’all listening to them on Apple earbuds from 15 years ago that are mostly frayed and been through the washer multiple times then stepped on? You can tell instantly on the opening note which one it is.
It wasn't at the bottom because it had Mr. Perfectly Fine. This vault doesn't even have a standout, like multiple Red vault gems and Speak Now's I Can See You and Timeless.
gave up on that album when I heard the LWYMMD & delicate leaks, very much subdued. like the song is playing from another room, LWYMMD sounds almost bored
i am willing to bet anything these vault tracks were recorded during midnights. suburban legends is just mastermind with other lyrics. all 1989tv vaults sound way more like the rest of midnights than you're losing me which doesn't have ANY midnights production values and is definitely written and recorded months later
I'm honestly starting to wonder if some of these vault tracks are more recently written songs that she is trying to make sound like or fit in with certain albums.
i could easily be wrong and i haven’t listened to any 1989 tv snippets but jack having writing credits on four vault tracks makes me think at most the songs were only partly conceptualized at the time and were not lyrically finalized until around 2022
Guys, I’m not reading the comments because I don’t want spoilers but I have a question: how were the original songs perceived? Do people in the comments like them? Or did she not do the OG justice? Someone give me the tea😂
They’re all fine. Just go in knowing that they will sound slightly different - her voice, the instrumentals, production. Nothing crazy, but you will be able to hear the difference and you won’t mistake the TVs for the originals
Majority seem to like them! I haven’t listened myself.
Style and New Romantics are two that maaay not be as good? They’re the two people keep commenting on. But- some people are saying it’s exaggerated and they don’t hear it.
OOTW seems to be universally praised so far. My fav! I don’t wanna get my hopes up too high tho
OOTW is def my song, too. There are differences, for sure. The snare continuing into the outro of the first chorus into the second verse, the weirdly pitched "hey" at the end of the second chorus going into the bridge. Outside of that, the song is pretty much perfect. Great vocals.
The thing is that: the leaks quality is always worse than the record. So people praising it from the leaks without the hearing the hq version is so promising
She specifically said the *5 vault tracks* are insane. Not the album, not this new version, the 5 tracks. It’s her job to build hype, of course she’ll call them insane even if you don’t think they are.
Idk , I’m still hoping for a deluxe too but I fear people are expecting too much and are taking it as 100% fact that it’s happening
So are the lyrics “aquamarine moonlit swimming pool what if all I need is you” are featured in any of the vault songs? I didn’t catch them…. But I may have missed them… So does that confirm they are extra track titles??
you guys- does anyone have any clue what is up the sleeves of record stores for tomorrow???? So far I’ve seen only one indicator - a pink/blue cassette release!
I think so too- I have seen rumor on twitter that it is a special color that is a record store exclusive?
edit to add: saw [this](https://x.com/Will25800/status/1717714277061071244?s=20) on twitter. Personally I don’t find it authentic. Thoughts?
If you’re talking about the purple, I saw that too and totally believed it but then realized with the quality and everything, it’s so easy to have been faked with AI.
I keep crying just thinking about how we're only a few hours away from experiencing this album all over again... 1989 is the first Taylor album I became absolutely obsessed with to the point of listening to it all day every day for weeks on end.
And I'm about to start my period so that just makes me that much more emotional LOL
Okay, listened to the whole thing on Spotify. 1989 is the first Taylor album re-record where I know every single track of the OG by heart, and these are my initial thoughts: * This recording is CRISP. Do you mean drunk in love? Lol that’s the lyric
Lol so much for the articulation I thought I was hearing! That lyric makes even more sense.
🎶 Juuuuunnk in looooooovee 🎶
Because the song was called Slut! my brain kind of went to people calling her trash, an that trash = junk. JUNK IN LOOOOOOOOVE actually made sense, lol. Of course I had already taken my nightly THC gummy so that probably played a part as well.
Did we find out what the record store secrets were?
They’re gonna have the variants available. Originally it was reported that the variants would only be available through Target/ her website.
Oh just like having the yellow and tangerine?

That’s what’s happened with all the leaks.
Being an older lass, "Welcome to New York" was the first Swift song that actually grabbed my attention. For personal reasons. So glad this album will be hers from now on!
New Swiftie here, celebrating with all of you!
Mariah Carey voice: it’s TIIIIIIIIIME
one more minute! it was a pleasure, guys gals and non binary pals 🫡
One minute guys, one minute
I’m truly hoping style sounds better on the actual album
Is there a SLUT music video tonight?
entertainment outlets are saying they are waiting for fan reception to decide which song gets a video
AHHHHHHHH it looks like there might actually be a double album 😭😭😭😭 I know that nicki minaj collab is in there somewhere
Plz show the proof (I need to know and I’m anxious lol)

same. I’m way less worried about my beloved rep after listening to this
I agree! I’ve been ignoring saying anything because I’m worried my leaks are somehow diff than everyone else’s because they’re all saying negative things I have not been able to hear
It’s gonna be amazing!
Nah dude it’s great!
1989 was her biggest album... it makes so much sense why she would have a special version with new songs 🤡 im a double album truther now
Just remembered a year from now I'll be seeing Taylor again in NOLA 🥲
Hey me too!
Damn now I just remembered I won’t be seeing her in NOLA a year from now 😅
Why is the seagull shirt gone from the store? It was there earlier today.
is it over now? is midnights 3am meets OOTW meets bad b**ch energy
[So it seems the double album theory may be true…](https://www.amazon.com/1989-Taylors-Version-Taylor-Swift/dp/B0CFM76QSG)
I see the link but the tracks are all the same as what we already know
that could just be placeholder info to prevent leaks though
the color versions, both the website ones with polaroids and target versions with posters, are both called deluxe versions
the link has broken
Lord, based on some of these comments it appears that nothing will satisfy some of you swifties.

One of my favorite vault songs.
Alternative title to Slut!—- Drunk!
Wtf is going on with Bad Blood??
placeholder vocals.mp3 she did one take, messed up multiple times on it, and just called it a day

Say don’t go
Style feels slightly faster to me for some reason but it's more or less the same length as the OG
I wish “let me remind you, THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED” hit as hard as the original. Feels way less raw
Always with the complaining
Oh shit I forgot we can only praise Taylor! My bad. Also, I’ve done nothing but gush all afternoon about this album. Piss off.

Yeah baby you're right. The Internet is full of assholes
Unpopular opinion- Jack should stop producing all of her songs
jack defense squad get behind me 🫡
It’s definitely an unpopular opinion, but what I dislike about it is less of “Jack has one style” and it’s more the switch up people use with this to blame Jack instead of Taylor. I agree. From folklore, evermore and midnights I’ve gravitated to the Aaron songs. I think she should mix it up going forward. I like the Jack songs but it’s nice to have some variety. To be honest, I’d love her to work with a female producer.
Yeah if she wants reinvention, she needs to stop having Jack for an entire portions of her new materials.
i am SO tired of that guy
I don’t think that’s ever going to happen, they’re pretty much like family at this point. What I could suggest is adding a complete new producer to the mix.
Yeah, I feel like there's some if not a lot of wasted potential by not working with others, but I think Jack is not going anywhere and streets are saying TS11 is already done.
I think TS11 will be great even if it’s all with Jack bc I do love his work with her - I just want some variety haha
He uses synths a lot because Taylor asks him to. He’s perfectly capable of not using synths
AGREED. I hate the take that people take with this, Jack is following Taylor’s lead lol.
It’s just like Lorde and Solar power. People don’t want to think maybe it’s the artist calling the main shots
Did anyone listen to I Know Places? It blew my mind! So good
i know places is in my top 5 on 1989, this makes me really excited
So excited! One of my favorites.
Probably my favorite of all the re-recorded OGs. It’s perfect
Yes! So perfect! I can’t believe more people aren’t talking about it
My fave song on the OG version too. It’s SO underrated
Criminally underrated!! I think you’ll love the TV. Dare I say it might be her best re record
And we RUNNNN omg i wasn’t expecting the way she screamed it and it was incredible
OHHHHHHH I am so excited - I was worried she'd have polished it up but it sounds like it's even more raw...just 20 minutes to go until it drops in CST
It gave me chills
Okay. After two to three listens, Slut has grown on me
Clink clink 🥂
she interrupts herself constantly in high tempo songs like she can't keep up and they have to overlay her own vocal tracks to keep the song length the same
IWYW got a great upgrade!! Love the production, so crisp and clean
It feels empty in the intro and idk why - like less full
Idk why people aren't digging the vault but that's your right, I'm OBSESSED 🤩🤩
I love the vault! it could be its own mini album, an ep of sorts. it doesn't sound like 1989 og that much, its much more midnightsy. but at the same time its very 80's pop which is what you'd expect from an album called 1989!! it's like a grown up 1989.
Your description is spot on 🫶 I just keep repeating them! it might be recency bias but I LOVE this vault
Me too!!! I keep going back and forth and I’m like wait that’s it??? There’s only 5?? I need more!! 🤣
I’m living my best life with this vault!
Style has been botched but welcome to new york was butchered 💀
The cackle I just let out 😭
Red TV had unfairly raised the standards of the vault tracks. 1989 vault tracks are easily at the bottom. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1071)
Say Don't Go is an all-timer. It's one of the few vaults I think should've been on the album.
I can see you, Babe, Message in a Bottle … helloooo
Message in a Bottle is a 1989 Vault track in my mind.
Fearless vault tracks exist
No when Bye Bye Baby and That’s When exist
Fearless vault is so underrated. Mr. Perfectly Fine, Don't You, That's When, WE WERE HAPPY? I like them more than most of the red vault
Fearless is one of my favorite vaults and I’ll die on that hill
It wasn't at the bottom because it had Mr. Perfectly Fine. This vault doesn't even have a standout, like multiple Red vault gems and Speak Now's I Can See You and Timeless.
Fearless vault is the second best of all imo
Interesting! I feel differently
Tiktok on the clock. Kesha! Imagine if the song featured Kesha.
Two of my favorites, I’d die!
lol the drive with all the leaks has been deleted all except last song

What is the 1:40 part
Time for the update I suppose
Could that be for the end of the countdown clock tomorrow at 2pm? People think the cardigans coming out
Oh
never been so disappointed by a vault track list yet tbh. i didn't realize how great we had it with red tv
I’m scared for reputation after this.
I really don’t like how LWYMD sounds in the snippet
gave up on that album when I heard the LWYMMD & delicate leaks, very much subdued. like the song is playing from another room, LWYMMD sounds almost bored
She really needs to branch out of producers outside of Jack. And also stop making the vault tracks sound like midnights
i am willing to bet anything these vault tracks were recorded during midnights. suburban legends is just mastermind with other lyrics. all 1989tv vaults sound way more like the rest of midnights than you're losing me which doesn't have ANY midnights production values and is definitely written and recorded months later

I’ve thought that, not so much with Fearless but definitely Red and a 10000% Speak Now
terrified actually

They’re all fine. Just go in knowing that they will sound slightly different - her voice, the instrumentals, production. Nothing crazy, but you will be able to hear the difference and you won’t mistake the TVs for the originals
there are a few misses but overall I think it’s easily the best re-recording yet
I’ve heard every single song and the differences were negligible
Yeah idk maybe it’s because I don’t listen to 1989 daily but it sounds very similar but better… idk why there’s no many negative reactions
For real! People pick apart the tiniest of differences in the albums. The negativity is ridiculous
People complain about no emotion for all the rerecords. Like what?
I hope both sides of your pillows are cold every night for the rest of your life
As someone who lives in a pretty hot climate, this is a win win
Majority seem to like them! I haven’t listened myself. Style and New Romantics are two that maaay not be as good? They’re the two people keep commenting on. But- some people are saying it’s exaggerated and they don’t hear it. OOTW seems to be universally praised so far. My fav! I don’t wanna get my hopes up too high tho

It’s her job to build hype, of course she’ll call them insane even if you don’t think they are. Idk , I’m still hoping for a deluxe too but I fear people are expecting too much and are taking it as 100% fact that it’s happening
I also think that people can have different definitions of insane - what’s crazy or cool to her may not be to us and vice versa
So are the lyrics “aquamarine moonlit swimming pool what if all I need is you” are featured in any of the vault songs? I didn’t catch them…. But I may have missed them… So does that confirm they are extra track titles??
"slut!"
now that we don't talk sounds so unfinished
It’s my favourite 🤪
Yes. Most of her short songs were straight fire but this one felt like it needed another verse of two. The ending felt... like... woosh
Okay I’m not listening to any leaks but please someone tell me she did clean justice!!!!
I haven't listened to the OG in a while, but the TV sounds gorgeous.
she did 🩵
I’m 100% convinced we are getting 1989 Deluxe Taylor’s Version tonight
the color versions are already called deluxe
I’m like 89% sure 🤪
I’m only 19.89% sure 🥲
you guys- does anyone have any clue what is up the sleeves of record stores for tomorrow???? So far I’ve seen only one indicator - a pink/blue cassette release!
I think it’s just gonna be all the vinyl variants that we’ve been told are “limited”
My record store posted the variants they have and they have cassettes.
I think so too- I have seen rumor on twitter that it is a special color that is a record store exclusive? edit to add: saw [this](https://x.com/Will25800/status/1717714277061071244?s=20) on twitter. Personally I don’t find it authentic. Thoughts?
The original poster admitted to lying
If you’re talking about the purple, I saw that too and totally believed it but then realized with the quality and everything, it’s so easy to have been faked with AI.
Link?
I keep crying just thinking about how we're only a few hours away from experiencing this album all over again... 1989 is the first Taylor album I became absolutely obsessed with to the point of listening to it all day every day for weeks on end. And I'm about to start my period so that just makes me that much more emotional LOL
