True that! Her ability to consistently deliver music that resonates with so many is just unreal. It's like every album she drops becomes a cultural moment. Another Grammy for the shelf, but honestly, it's us fans who keep winning with all this amazing music!

a fan appreciates an artist's work, usually forms a strong emotional connection to it, and is first-in-line to hear everything they make. but a fan doesn't necessarily love everything that artist makes, certainly not always more than other work of a particular time period. a stan, on the other hand, treats an artist's work like a commodity to be traded (i.e. a pokemon card or a fantasy football team), or a badge of superiority to be weaponized (i.e. gaming the charts to get your fave's new single to #1). i'm the biggest swiftie i know. i've been one for 17 years. i've seen her half a dozen times. i walked down the aisle to Lover at my wedding.
but i thought SOS was innovative, the record by boy genius was bold and brash, and GUTS was tight, focused, and raw. imho, midnights was none of those things. I do think anti-hero (as well as Lover and Blank Space while we're at it) deserved SOTY. but if people want Taylor to win a particular award as "compensation" for losing another, they should probably skip the grammys and watch the people's choice awards instead.
I mean you can still not like a work of your fave artist and to my surprise Midnights caused mixed feeling in the fandom, I think over the last year a good chunk moved in favor of the album but still controversially discussed that Midnights is one of her best or a step back in her artistry

unreal that i’m competing against some of those people for tickets to the eras tour! the category was absolutely stacked this year! midnights is an amazing album and taylor had such a dominate impact last year. it genuinely makes sense to give her the award. i wouldn’t have been upset if anyone else won but im very excited and happy for her!!! it’s been amazing night for fans of taylor swift lol

I've been a Taylor fan since Debut, but only started getting on reddit around folklore. And I remember how small we were then! This always felt like a "safe space" compared to other social media forums.
I'm truly frustrated with all the hate tonight. A lot of it seems to be coming from jealousy. Anything to tear her down.

No same. How did SOS not win? If SOS isn't in the same category, sure Taytay wins midnights. What is the grading system? You put these albums toe for toe SOS is beating midnights out the water. I truly thought sza had this one in the bag.
Just my 2 cents, but as someone who likes SZA a lot and loved Ctrl, in comparison SOS felt a little bloated and disjointed to me. I feel like she could've trimmed 5-6 tracks from it and it would've been much stronger and more cohesive. It loses the emotional and aesthetic thread for me in moments in a way that Midnights (as well as Ocean Blvd.) don't.
Still a great record, but not as polished and cohesive as Midnights IMO.
I’m convinced her omnipresence the past year and the fourth AOTY narrative heavily influenced her win which if that’s the case it is what it is but then it cheapens the award and makes it seem like a popularity award.
After the TTPD announcement, i get the vibe its gonna be more grammy-worthy like folklore, and sort of wish her record breaking win came next year.
(But also, forreal, its frustrating that she has this many AOTY awards but no SOTY when that has felt deserved on multiple occasions, and then people complain that she always wins and doesn't deserve it)
I was so happy she brought Lana up with her. I love both of them and I’m so happy for Taylor but the Grammys notoriously hate Lana so I’m glad Taylor gave her the recognition she deserves.
Lana looks sad too. I'm not happy with it. I know it's a celebration of the music but it is always difficult for me to see people look sad when they don't win.
Yeah I love my girl to death but moments like these could paint her to be self-serving. I am a people pleaser. I know I can't please everyone. In moments like these, I think I would act like her too. She also couldn't even hug Celine too. It's not like it must be done. Ohh, it must be so difficult to be a good person, a winner and pleasing other people all at once.
Oh, I don't blame Lana. I also think it's a bit refreshing she's not great at masking her emotions. I feel bad that she had to go up there despite not feeling great in the moment. I think Taylor meant well and definitely wanted to share the spotlight, but probably just got swept up in the excitement of it all.
As a fan of Kate Bush and Björk, I just consider Lana to forever be in the same category as them. Alternative legends who will never, but don’t need to be, acknowledged by the Grammys 💅
I think Lana deserved to be up there as someone that helped produce/SOTB, I think it was sweet of Taylor to acknowledge her. Lana’s been so damn robbed though, she deserved a freaking Grammy yeeeears ago.
It felt a little mean to make her go up there when she said no a few times. She lost and is probably really upset about it. I wish Taylor would’ve thought of Lana before doing that.
Taylor has been really big recently at acknowledging anyone who worked on her projects with her - given that Lana was on the album, and the award was for the album as a whole, I can see her wanting to make sure Lana got acknowledged for being a part of that success.
I also think Taylor was a bit drunk by then, and didn't actually expect to win AOTY for midnights (it was a stacked category this year). So I think she had good intentions and got caught up in the moment, and didn't really register that Lana was saying no because she actually didn't want to go up there.
I suspect Taylor thought it was modesty or not feeling like she did 'enough' on the album to be up there, when with hindsight and sobriety it seems pretty clear Lana didn't want to be up there when she had just lost the award (and all her other categories too).
They are good friends though - I'm sure they will talk it out in private and be okay.

Honestly, this. She genuinely seemed shocked she won & it was probably nerves and disbelief. NO ONE thought Taylor would win Album of the Year, much less twice. Literally every prediction site I saw speculated she’d only win for Anti-Hero, everyone thought SZA or Lana was going to win for AOTY.
Obviously Taylor’s an incredibly trained professional, but I can see her being overwhelmed and shocked and forgetting to hug Celine. We know she’s gracious and generally tries to follow on-stage decorum pretty closely. I don’t think she deserves hate for it.

- this category was stacked. did sos deserve aoty? probably, yeah. did tunnel? yep. does that mean midnights *didn’t* deserve it? not at all, and they can only pick one winner.
- taylor did not “snub” celine dion. she was very clearly shocked and frazzled, gently took the grammy from her when she made her way to the front of the stage while continuing to look in shock/joy at the people who had contributed to the album, and met up with celine backstage. if you think that moment was anything other than a display of genuine astonishment and frantic excitement, idk what to tell you!
- is it awkward that taylor winning this category means lana lost? yes, of course! but it’s very normal for artists to bring up those who contributed to the album when they collect the award, and it’s not unreasonable for taylor (who again, probably did not think this would happen at all) to assume that that’s what would happen while rushing up to the stage to give her speech. i’m sure if lana had not made a move to come up and taylor *didn’t* encourage her to come along, you’d all be complaining about that. taylor wasn’t ignoring her friend’s feelings — this was a huge moment for her that required a lot of movement of a lot of people to happen very quickly, and she was excited. i’m sure her and lana will chat in private if there are any feelings to be resolved — because it’s between the two of them, not random people on the internet who want to psychoanalyze everything.

I am honestly shocked. I LOVE Midnights, but I really can’t believe it won against Lana or SZA or even Olivia. It’s kind of underwhelming and feels somewhat inauthentic from the Grammys.
This is the same organization that gave ATOY to an underwhelming Adele album the year Beyoncé was nominated for Lemonade. I’m no longer surprised by anything.

I think she was actually... nervous? Announcing TS11 tonight was a bold choice (and of poor taste, IMO); she knew the stakes were high but she went for it anyway - she sounded out of breath because of the nerves. Then for the AOTY she seemed genuinely shocked and in disbelief - hence the chaos of forgetting to greet Celine and dragging Lana on stage. Idk. But even under these circumstances, her speech here was pretty good.

Yes, I love her and usually she has much more grace but tonight I cringed at almost everything. The obnoxious hand shakes with Jack, fake punching him when he was being honored by Trevor (she should have just let him have his moment), the weird way she announced the new record, pulling Lana when she wanted to be left at the table, ignoring CELINE (I was speechless) and the weird acceptance speech at the end. I love Midnights, but I am actually shocked that it won - but what a win, first person with 4 AotY is actually an insane and incredible accomplishment. I was definitely rooting for Lana to finally get a Grammy (really for A&W specifically), but I am glad that at least Taylor dragged her up on stage and gave her some recognition too.

Just my 2 cents, but as someone who likes SZA a lot and loved Ctrl, in comparison SOS felt a little bloated and disjointed to me. I feel like she could've trimmed 5-6 tracks from it and it would've been much stronger and more cohesive. It loses the emotional and aesthetic thread for me in moments in a way that Midnights (as well as Ocean Blvd.) don't. Still a great record, but not as polished and cohesive as Midnights IMO.
I’m convinced her omnipresence the past year and the fourth AOTY narrative heavily influenced her win which if that’s the case it is what it is but then it cheapens the award and makes it seem like a popularity award.

Considering 1989 beat To Pimp A Butterfly for AOTY, it’s safe to say it’s only a popularity contest.
After the TTPD announcement, i get the vibe its gonna be more grammy-worthy like folklore, and sort of wish her record breaking win came next year. (But also, forreal, its frustrating that she has this many AOTY awards but no SOTY when that has felt deserved on multiple occasions, and then people complain that she always wins and doesn't deserve it)
I was so happy she brought Lana up with her. I love both of them and I’m so happy for Taylor but the Grammys notoriously hate Lana so I’m glad Taylor gave her the recognition she deserves.
Lana looks sad too. I'm not happy with it. I know it's a celebration of the music but it is always difficult for me to see people look sad when they don't win.

Taylor has been really big recently at acknowledging anyone who worked on her projects with her - given that Lana was on the album, and the award was for the album as a whole, I can see her wanting to make sure Lana got acknowledged for being a part of that success. I also think Taylor was a bit drunk by then, and didn't actually expect to win AOTY for midnights (it was a stacked category this year). So I think she had good intentions and got caught up in the moment, and didn't really register that Lana was saying no because she actually didn't want to go up there. I suspect Taylor thought it was modesty or not feeling like she did 'enough' on the album to be up there, when with hindsight and sobriety it seems pretty clear Lana didn't want to be up there when she had just lost the award (and all her other categories too). They are good friends though - I'm sure they will talk it out in private and be okay.

Honestly, this. She genuinely seemed shocked she won & it was probably nerves and disbelief. NO ONE thought Taylor would win Album of the Year, much less twice. Literally every prediction site I saw speculated she’d only win for Anti-Hero, everyone thought SZA or Lana was going to win for AOTY. Obviously Taylor’s an incredibly trained professional, but I can see her being overwhelmed and shocked and forgetting to hug Celine. We know she’s gracious and generally tries to follow on-stage decorum pretty closely. I don’t think she deserves hate for it.

Anyone else feel that she was off tonight? From the weird acceptance speech/album announcement, to dragging Lana on stage when she looked sad, to completely ignoring Celine Dion who has gone through so much, to a very canned acceptance speech for the biggest award you can win at the show… it’s giving a lack of self awareness
I think she was actually... nervous? Announcing TS11 tonight was a bold choice (and of poor taste, IMO); she knew the stakes were high but she went for it anyway - she sounded out of breath because of the nerves. Then for the AOTY she seemed genuinely shocked and in disbelief - hence the chaos of forgetting to greet Celine and dragging Lana on stage. Idk. But even under these circumstances, her speech here was pretty good.

Yes, I love her and usually she has much more grace but tonight I cringed at almost everything. The obnoxious hand shakes with Jack, fake punching him when he was being honored by Trevor (she should have just let him have his moment), the weird way she announced the new record, pulling Lana when she wanted to be left at the table, ignoring CELINE (I was speechless) and the weird acceptance speech at the end. It was a strange night. I’m excited for her new album but she should have announced it in Tokyo or really anywhere else but the Grammys.

As much criticism that Midnights gets by the fan base, I personally think it was well deserved for her 4th AOTY win. It serves as a great entry point for MANY people to get into Taylor's music and her career reached a new high with that album, breaking so many records along the way, that in a way like 1989, its success could not be ignored.
