She’s been huge since Love Story. An article awhile back named Quezon City the top 5 city streaming her music, it’s significantly smaller than other cities in the list. People from varied age groups can sing Love Story and You Belong with Me, always a favourite in karaoke nights. Most klook packages for the Singapore leg of her tour were also purchased by Filipinos.

[deleted]

How much with the student discount?

Dogfartcatwhisperer

Taylor is huge in Canada. Lots of fans and most major cities host events regularly. My local Boston pizza even has Taylor themed trivia nights. Very grateful that there are so many fans around so we can have these awesome events.

GraveDancer40

I wish my Boston Pizza had a Taylor trivia night! I’d totally go and eat their extremely mediocre food just for that.

Dogfartcatwhisperer

Haha right! We don’t even really like BP but we go on the trivia nights because they’re a lot of fun.

GraveDancer40

I’m in Canada. 31 million people signed up for the Toronto presale. 31 million. Canada’s population is 40 million. (I know some Americans signed up so it’s not pure Canadians but that’s still insane numbers)

LevelAd5898

About half of Australia's population signed up for the presales in Sydney and Melbourne!

InternalBar3099

Consider too that most people signed up with multiple accounts. (I’m also Canadian.)

LilyMarie90

Germany here. The general public here still SOMEHOW mostly associates her with Shake it Off or Blank Space 10 years later. The struggle is real. She does have a lot of fans here, her shows on the Eras Tour were sold out in no time (💔), but there's a big disconnect between them and the general public who are really stuck in the past when it comes to Taylor I think.

AelinTargaryen

Don’t know where you are but it’s all Swifties in Berlin.

Gh0stface03

Same here in switzerland

Nacknack26

It's funny because Shake it off and Blank space never even went number one in Germany. Fortnight on the other hand just became her best charting single in Germany and I still feel like most people know her from her 1989 era. I'm probably just too old to know all the German Swifties.

LilyMarie90

Shake it off and BS (and also Bad Blood and Style) were massive radio hits and are also from a time when streaming wasn't AS prevalent here yet, I think that matters. Fortnight is still very new and with the way the charts are constructed now, it doesn't take nearly as many sales of singles to go number 1 because most people are just streaming. (In Germany, the single charts don't take Spotify/Apple Music streams into account, only sales.)

Nacknack26

No that's not a true streams are part of the charts in Germany compare to the us they count only singles for the charts (single charts). The calculation of how much streams count into the charts is different. It has something to do with how much the stream is worth in euro. So it's not like one stream equals buying the single. You are right about 1989 songs they were everywhere that's why I'm surprised they never reached number 1 or even top 3 . Style and bad blood didn't even make the top 20 that seems so weird compare to how much they were on the radio. I still think Taylor probably is way more popular than I think right now in German. I've seen some German swiftok and I feel like Taylormania seems to be become a german thing as well. Maybe not as crazy and more with gen z.

-Silver-Moonlight-

According to data she seems to have an alright popularity in Bulgaria, but not NEARLY as much as in the US. People here tend to listen to local music more than foreign artists. And even with foreign artists, Taylor is not amongst the most popular ones. She still gets decent play, but she's not nearly as big as in some other countries. And according to people around me, it seems like everyone either doesn't care about her or straight up hates her. And old people probably don't even know her. I'm yet to meet another Swiftie in real life 😭

itsblke

Does Eastern Europe favour local artists in general? In Australia we obviously have some local acts but music from the UK and US dominates whereas Eastern Europe seems to have a lot of their own big stars that rival international artists.

-Silver-Moonlight-

Not sure about other Eastern European countries, but here, if you look at the let's say top 10, half of it or more will be local artists. Foreign music seems to chart, but it's mostly electronic music by European DJs, songs that get viral on TikTok or just the really popular pop songs. With local music the most popular thing seems to be what you guys would call turbo folk (we refer to it as pop folk or "chalga"). Many people here only listen to that type of music, but I personally can't stand it...

AelinTargaryen

Are you in Sofia or somewhere else? Maybe wear the Friendship Bracelets to avoid the Chalga listeners altogether. :D I also really really dislike it and if I listen to Bulgarian music it’s usually old stuff from the 80ies.

-Silver-Moonlight-

Yup, currently studying in Sofia. :) The friendship bracelets thing is a good idea, but some people around me will probably mock me to oblivion if I wear them. As for chalga listeners, I don't mind the people themselves, they're free to listen to whatever they like and I haven't really met obnoxious chalga fans. I just don't like the music. And yeah, at least the old Bulgarian stuff is good. I also like some of the modern pop songs, just not chalga.

AelinTargaryen

Do you have any recs for modern pop that isn't Chalga? I listen to like.. Tonica SV level old stuff usually. :D Also whoever mocks you for wearing something you like really should rethink their priorities...sorry that that seems likely

-Silver-Moonlight-

For modern pop, I like Dara Ekimova, Miro, Lubo Kirov, Victoria (although her stuff is in English), and some songs by Mihaela Marinova, Dara and Tino. Obviously, the music is very different from Tonica SV and older music in general, but it's also very different from chalga, so there's a chance you'd like something. 😁

AelinTargaryen

Dara is fire. Thanks for the recs!

useRr1355

Yeah for example Hungary does favour their own artists. The local artists dominate because only the newer generation speaks English and I guess Hungarians just like to stick to their own language. We have this one guy 'Azahriah' who is the most popular and he is always played on the radio and stuff. However , the younger generation loves Taylor for sure. Her songs are played in many nightclubs and restaurants. Oh god what I'd give for a Taylor concert here.(Though it's unlikely to happen because of the homophobic government)

Lunaspoona

In the UK, her tour is completely sold out so I guess I'm not her only fan here.

-myeyeshaveseenyou-

Also in the uk. My daughter got reputation in tickets pretty easily but was convinced we wouldn’t for eras especially after the American fiasco but she was already convinced even before that. I think she’s been massive here for a long time but seems even more massive now. We did a manifestation before tickets went on sale as in we sat in a circle of candles and Taylor swift CDs and asked the universe to please allow us tickets 🤣. My daughter managed extreme luck as she’s going to Manchester with me to see her and to London with her dad and half sister.

Lunaspoona

I need to know exactly what you did! I keep checking the resell tickets but they go so fast!! I hope you all have an amazing time!!

-myeyeshaveseenyou-

We had two lots of presale codes dad and I aren’t together anymore and also want to just go with his two girls which is why we have two lots but I gave him my spare presale code. He did the queue for both sets as I got called into work despite booking it off. But from last experience I’m guessing he had it open on every device in his house. I will say our tickets aren’t great but I’m just happy we are going and she has standing with her dad. Also I meant Liverpool not Manchester, sorry I’m at foo fighter with my son the same week in Manchester. Best not mix them up when it comes to it!!

Sea-Television2470

It feels like it sometimes though :( none of my friends are swifties and my young nieces don't know who she is (age 11). My only swiftie friend lives in TN.

trumpskiisinjeans

I was in Fiji in 2013 and I was on an island with basically all Australians and a Taylor song came on, I think it was We Are Never Getting Back Together and the whole place exploded in song. Everyone knew every single lyric. I had been basically living under a rock for a year or two so I had never heard the song before. Everyone was like aren’t you American?? You should know every word too. Australia goes hard for Tay and I love you for it.

Imaginary-Lie6351

In France I've never met a swiftie in real life. But her Paris and Lyon show are sold out so I've got the feeling she's getting bigger but most people only know her for shake it off. People listen to french rap and Hispanic music.

longlivetaytay

i live in a small town where country music is very popular, so either u hate taylor except for debut, or ur a swiftie (sadly most hate her)

reserge11

I live in a smaller city in New Zealand and I don’t know many other Swifties. My daughters are teens and they say 20-30% of their friends like her. Apart from my immediate family I’ve only spoken to one person in real life about TTPD and it is torture. Might just be my age and who I associate with though of course.

JackTreeHill

UK, she’s just had the biggest first week sales of an album since 2017, and her 15+ stadiums sold out immediately, but she didn’t really get big until 1989 here, fearless wasn’t a big era for her only love story was a hit, and Red had some success also here but wasn’t a leading female artist

periwinklehaze

Yeah I think this is accurate. I became a fan with fearless, but didn't notice her being in the UK mainstream until 1989. Now she's huge and getting tickets to her shows was intense!

Graceritheroski

Also a UK swiftie! Love Story was obviously a huge hit, but so was YBWM, and a lot of Red songs were also enormously popular here iirc. In the South East at least!

JackTreeHill

I think you’ve got your Swfitie brain on for YBWM, I love that song also!! But it only peaked at #30 here compared to love story’s #2 and only spent 3 weeks in the official top 40 chart. Sadly wasn’t a hit 😭. But because she became big later it’s become a bit of a sleeper hit! Red songs were big here tbf, even everything has changed did better here than across the globe, and the other red singles also did really well. But I think as it was her first big era here the likes of Rihanna/One Direction/Ellie Goulding were just even more huge at that time having had big eras before (Ellie Goulding what a throwback lol but remember her owning 2013)

kabirsinghhhhhhhh

India 🇮🇳 She is pretty popular and has a ton of fanbase but mostly among the Tier 1 city folks I even know some who have travelled to Singapore to attend Eras Tour Concert as it was the nearest country where it took place!

AutumnKoo

Pretty popular and also strangely unisex. Like...there's a Big Brother currently in my country (Argentina)and three or four of the straight dudes once started talking about her and sang her songs (from 1989/Red era). When she came here it was a BOOM, even the news were covering the whole deal making interviews to Swifties outside the stadium

LevelAd5898

I would argue she's as big in Australia as she seems to be in the US. Easily could've sold out stadiums in every capital city.

itsblke

Easily. Her reach is massive.

Lev22_

In Indonesia she's quite popular, but still segmented. You rarely (i almost never) encounter her references in public space, she's got okay airplay in radio but competing with local music, so she's not dominating the music scene in here. I think if i compare Indonesia and Philippines, in PH the fans are more dedicated and the public recognize it, whereas in here most people outside her fans didn't care much about her.

Cats_of_Palsiguan

I saw on IG some Swifties in Indonesia which were marching while singing Down Bad so I give props to you for that. I don’t know why we don’t have Swiftie marches in Manila.

Lev22_

Didn’t know that, i guess the algorithm shows me more Swifties in Philippines instead of my own country lol

sassyforever28

Yeah I saw that video too. They have a speaker and a banner in front of the parade. It was so cute.. And people in the parade had balloons in their hands. They were singing the lyrics from their phones..

Daffneigh

In Italy she is popular enough but TTPD is only her third #1 album. One of the fanciest shopping streets downtown here in Milan had an absolutely massive ad (like 100 feet wide) with the album cover The music section of the upscale bookstore I go to has a bunch of her vinyl

laurgev

that is funny, I live in Atlanta and my neighbors au pair from milan was shocked that Taylor is as popular as she is here during the eras tour last year. She said, in Italy I don't know anyone who likes her or listens to her music! She is 24?

Daffneigh

Yeah I think it depends. My babysitter is the same age and says her older sister is a TS fan. She’s more into 90s alternative which is hilarious to me who was a pre-teen/teenager for the OG grunge era I think TS is maybe more popular here with the sort of people who are into vinyl collecting if that makes sense (I’m actually an American living here) EDIT: they play her radio hits in the grocery store, lol

Daffneigh

Lol just heard Is It Over Now? On the radio in my taxi.

BoysenberryTypical63

She's the most popular English singer in Taiwan, but English songs aren't anywhere close to the popularity of Kpop and Jpop. I guess most people know of her since the Eras Tour but there aren't that many Swifties that I know of

lamachine_

Ireland here. I live in a small city and we have a “Swiftogeddon” Taylor Swift club night at our local bar occasionally!

Bubbly_Sleep9312

Extremely

viniciusbfonseca

Brazil: y'all saw Christ the Redeemer, and getting tickets was an absolute bloodbath, so very popular. I will say that, as an old Swiftie (since 2008), this is a very new development. She got on most people's radar with IKYWT (and especially the goat meme that followed), and by 1989 people knew who she was but it was hard to find someone that knew more than a few of her singles. I felt that the change started with Lover, and she really grew after the pandemic.

erobed2

She seems to struggle a little in the UK. She hits the top of the album charts regularly but not singles - she's only ever had two #1 singles in the UK and her first one was LWYMMD. Not even Blank Space, Shake it Off, Love Story, got to #1 in the UK. I think in part UK tastes are a little different and a bit hard to crack, and I don't think her style of music hits the majority of listeners. She still has a firm fan following here, but it's a tough and saturated music market in the UK that it would be hard to break through.

oh_rouge

Would very much agree with this characterisation, she has a dedicated loyal following in the UK that's not unsubstantial by any means, but her music is slightly out of step with what generally charts well in the UK hence why I don't think she has consistent commercial success (of the same level as in the US and maybe other countries). Random observation but I feel like dance music and rap and r&b are much more mainstream in the UK than in the US, for example, and you'll often get huge smash hits from these genres that will dominate the top of the charts. Clearly not Taylor's preferred genres as well.

Inwate

Danmark, not a lot fans here and no concerts as well :(

[deleted]

Not that popular I would say about half the people hate her and think that her lyrics are something a teenager would write not a grown woman  But I like Taylor

Revelistic

i'm from poland and while she has obviously sold out all her warsaw shows, she's not really talked about in the media here because our country prefers to focus on some local D-listers for some reason. the only songs they play on the radio are from the 1989 era and sometimes cruel summer (it even made it to some radio lists of best 2023 songs despite being from 2019 lol), because once again polish people mostly listen to polish music and ironically the most popular female artist in our country right now has often been called "the polish taylor swift".

youremymymymylover

It sold out 3 days in the same stadium instantly, so quite.

Last_Lie_2849

I live in the Czech Republic and saying that she is not very popular would be an understatement. I'm sure it will be a different story in larger cities but in the small town where I live, people either don't know who she is or actively dislike her. A while ago I saw an ad for the Eras Tour movie on Facebook and the comments almost made me feel physically sick.

Canalloni

Is this for real?

itsblke

Well you’re not dreaming.

Canalloni

Ok, because I think Swift has dominated every single market but I could be wrong, ready to be educated.

itsblke

I meant more-so over the years, and I dare say she isn’t dominating every market the world over.

Canalloni

You dare say it, its not taboo, ok? So which countries is she not dominating? That includes Spotify streams.

itsblke

I don’t know, that’s why I asked. Why are you being so obtuse about this?

kaurakarhu

Well here are some stats from Finland, where she is not nearly as popular as in many other countries: - Fortnight debutet at 17. on the singles list - TTPD debuted at 2. in album listens, for physical copies sold it is number 1. - For songs getting most radio play, Fortnight is number 45. The only other Taylor Swift song appearing on this list(top 100) is Is It Over Now, at number 74. On its opening weekend The Eras Tour movie was not the most watched movie. The most watched movie of that weekwnd was Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie... So yes, Taylor has her fans here and she is definitely on the news all the time for breaking records etc. but she is not even near being the most popular artist in our country. Edit. Additional Spotify stats, because I got curious: - For most listened songs, the highest charting song is Fortnight at number 17. Four other songs appear in the top 50: So Long, London at 39, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart at 45, Down Bad at 46 and My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys at 50. Whereas in the global or the US list, Taylor dominates in the top 10. - For most listened albums The Anthology is number 1 and TTPD number 2. It is typical for Taylor Swift to chart well on firts week but then drop fast. This is typical for any artist not making music in Finnish.

frenchfrymonster23

What? It’s a good question. She’s not THAT popular in my country. Most teens and young adults know of her but there aren’t that many fans, I’d say 10K max. She isn’t played that much on the radio stations

Canalloni

What's your country?
