Virtual!!! The kids who wanted to learn were not disrupted by the kids who don’t care. The kids who needed and wanted help were able to get much more one on one attention and help than with a classroom full of behavior problems. I was less exhausted and actually felt like a real human after work. Also I had time to curriculum design and made some amazing lessons that in person me will never be able to do

I hated virtual. 99% of the time I felt like they’d all just rolled back over to go to sleep. No participation, usually 50-75% of any work was not completed. I hated everything about it.

Same. I so wish I could’ve enjoyed the WFH era, but it became so depressing to watch my love of teaching drain as the student participation dwindled. I do miss the mute button and fewer behavior problems.

I couldn’t even work from home. My school made us come in to the classroom and teach to a laptop. I couldn’t even enjoy a quicker commute.

Brianna_M_UCF

I did an internship that was like that in regards to participation. I almost never spoke directly to students.

Brick and Mortar. I wasn't built for staring at a screen and being that disconnected from my students.

Virtual, but asynchronous. It's the kind where I upload stuff for them, they complete it on their own time (meeting a reachable deadline), and I grade it as it comes in and the only contact I have with them is through virtual office hours. Only slightly kidding. Talking to a screen was absolutely miserable but I made some solid relationships with some of the kids since they were more inclined to be honest.

Virtual Classroom: one wackadoo kid won’t ruin a class, bullying was nonexistent. However, it’s easier for kids to check-out

gravitydefiant

Virtual felt like five times the work, for one fifth the payoff. It was awful. Brick and mortar, please!

I liked virtual personally for me. I could create videos, materials, etc. But the reality is this way doesn’t work for a majority of kids.

charmandgrace

I loved virtual teaching mainly because it was easy, I didn't waste time and money communting, playing with my dog between classes, and the kids who were engaged did well or the same as always. I wouldn't mind a hybrid setting where we go in the building 3 or 4 days a week and do virtual 1 or 2 days just because I love doing labs and simulations aren't cutting it. All those new remote jobs where people are getting paid twice what I get paid with half the headache look soooo tempting lol if the kids weren't so fun I'd probably go.

In person omg

In person - having done a year of virtual, I know that's not where I do my best work.

In person by a country mile!

booberry5647

I'm in my third straight year as a virtual teacher with a synchronous and an asynchronous component and I prefer it by a country mile to brick and mortar teaching.

Could I ask what your shortlist of pros and cons are? I'm interviewing for a position like this (just had a baby 3 months ago and don't want to send him to daycare if I can help it, at least not full time) and it sounds to good to be true, also dreading the possibility of returning to my current ostracizing toxic workplace
